Hi!
I am quite new to all this! I am searching and reading about Windows Mobile 6 Professional.
I would want to setup an account, in Mobile Outlook, that connects to the Microsoft Exchange Server.
If I use my PC or VAIO, I can acccess my account through a web based address but cannot successfully send Japanese langauge emails to Japanese mobile devices. Japanese PC/notebooks are OK.
But I can send and receive perfectly when using Outlook 2007 on my PC or VAIO...
This aspect is the most imprortant issue for me. Is it possible and easy ! To setup such an account in Mobile Outlook ?
I am also aware that using Vodafone to do this could also be very expensive and data charges would mount up.
Any advice appreciated.
Ofiaich
The issue is not your device. You have to make sure that the Exchange Server is setup for mobile access.
http://exchangeserver/oma or https://exchangeserver/oma
where exchangeserver is the name of your exchange server
See if you can access either of the above, that's the first step. If your server requires SSL certificate then you have to install that to your device (I keep a copy of the certificate on my SD card so when I hard reset or get a new device that's the first thing I install).
It requires a pretty close relationship with the Exchange Server IT guys (in my case I have my own exchange server). One option is to use a hosted exchange service.
Let me know if you need more specifics
thanks very much jcrompton!
I had a bit of a hard time setting up Outlook 2007 to connect to the Exchange Server because the university, where the server is ??, only had info for Outlook 2002, 2003. Some differences.
If I buy the TyTn II it will be my first experience with a Windows Mobile device. I will also want to put Japanese input etc on it !
Currently, I use a SE W950i with Japanese support but only accessing Vodafone email. Not good.....
I will also talk to the Exchange Server IT guys!
Any further advice would be appreciated because, some of the senior IT guys at the university often say that will only support what they feel is necessary. One even said, don't need to check emails using a mobile device ! Strange guy.....
Ofiaich
Yes it can really be a bit difficult if the IT guys are not willing participants. I had some difficulties even owning my own server.
I have a Microsoft MVP (Bob Lin) who helps me remotely with issues on the Exchange Server - he charges $95 per hour.
I would tell the IT guys that they may have an opportunity to learn somethings if they will be willing to work with you.
First make sure you can access /oma via the web and see if they require SSL to connect - that will tell you if they have OutlookMobileAccess already configured or not and whether you will need a certificate installed on your mobile device.
jcrompton!
thanks very much for your quick reply!
This morning, I got the usual comment from the university IT staff, we are not an internet providor, we do not support Palm, Windows Mobile.. etc...
I will push this further but I still cannot get them to support Japanese 'perfectly' on the university server !
but I have remembered I can set an rule in my account to forward email on to another account. So I could just use my Vodafone account!
Thanks for your time and help! I will battle on with this!
Ofiaich
If you decide to do the forwarding thing I think there is a guy out there who is allowing access to his exchange server as a free service - of course he takes donations. You could then just forward your email to that Exchange Server and then take advantage of the instant email abilities of your device.
The other option is a hosted Exchange Service but that's not free.

Try http://live.mail2web.com, it is a free hosted exchange service.
Thanks very much jcrompton and palmop !
My problem with a web based service is that Japanese is not supported well. I just registered at http://live.mail2web.com and sent some tests but some, but not all of the returned tests did not display Japanese, just a row of ????????
My way of accessing email at the moment, is to use my University Exchange server, but that does not send mail in Japanese to Japanese mobile phones and other mobile devices, but it does send correctly to PC's , for example Hotmail read on a PC.
My 100% successful way. is to use a small VAIO notebook VGN-TX51B and Outlook 2007. Occasionally I use a W950i as a modem, but often use WiFi or a LAN line.
Mail, in Japanese, to and from mobile devices, PC's and Mac's all are OK, but it is not always convenient to carry my VAIO around even though it is small
What I hoped to do with the TyTn-II was to setup an exchange account in Mobile Outlook, in the same way, as I did on my Desktop PC and VAIO.
But the university support staff are not forthcoming....
I do not have any experience of Windows Mobile 6 Professional! Time to search and read more !
Oh! I also know I would need to install a Japanese font and have read Asukal's information here, and at http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=171045&page=2 and also at http://www.ookii.org/software/japaneseinput/

In general syncing with exchange is a breeze... if the server has been setup to work with mobile devices (you do not need to enter in the owa or oma extension listed above). If exchange has been setup to support mobile devices (which is likely the case) you don't even need your IT department
under comm manager click activesync, then menu, then configure server, enter in the exchange server address (not http you can find this from your outlook), put in username, pw and domain, check want you want to sync, schedule, and that is it your done. The only issue may run into is a secure certificate issue (very uncommon) if so just post and a solution will be provided.
aaronsmckee!
thanks very much for your help!
I have a new question,,,, does adding an exchange server account mean a continuous connection to the exchange server, and thus the potential of huge data charges ?
I actually haven't got a TyTn-II yet because I wanted to research about this and also Japanese support before buying one !
But I can understand what you are saying. I have setup Palms, Japanese OS VAIO and all sorts !
Just Windows Mobile is new to me!
I will check out the security certificate issue and post if there is a problem !
Now I will read about installing Japanese input etc!
Thanks very much !

I agree with the advice that you have gotten. You don't need to use owa oma extensions like I mentioned when setting up the Mobile Outlook but if you can succesfully navigate to them on the handheld browser (or any other browser for that matter that is an indication that Outlook Mobile Access has been setup on the Exchange Server). What I do KNOW is that if the IT department has not specifically set out to set up thier server to work with mobile active sync it will NOT work. It took quite a bit of work to get my server working with active sync! I agree the certificate is a whole differnt issue but I suspect that a University does have SSL connection to their server enabled which will require a certificate on your device!
You have the ability to set the Mobile device to connect to the server at intervals, manually , or "as items arrive" - the latter maintains a connection to the server so you have emails arrive on your device immediately.
I hope we are helping you.
Hi jcrompton!
Yes, everyone is very helpful here !!
What I need to do now, is to decide if the TyTn II is for me, because it might mean my VAIO does not get used. I use a W950i but the email via Vodafone often crashed as I input Japanese.
Next, I need to be clear about reading and inputting Japanese on the TyTn II
And then find the bEst place to buy it in the UK!
But yes, everyone is very helpful here !!

Is it possible to have multiple microsoft exchange accounts on my Kaiser - Running Dutty's latest rom 04/03/08

In my opinion this is not possible since you only have one activesync client.
Would be nice though....
ok heres is the situation, i have 2 exchange accounts, and i can access one via IMAP but then i dont have same sync up as an exchange
can one of the gods write a program for this
Gods any ideas - im sure nothing is out of your capabilities
http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive...lic.pocketpc.activesync/2006-09/msg00251.html
just found the above link, havent tried it yet
made the registry change but cant see any ability to add any further excange accounts!
someone - anyone - GODS do you have an answer to this?
I have tried and tested this solution however havent had the required results!!! I have an exchange server (my own) and my laptop (work) and I am trying to synch so that I have all my calendar appointments on my phone and my own exchange server! When I synch with my work laptop I get all my own calendar onto the laptop but not on the phone!!! any ideas on how to work around this issue????
Basically I want to synch 2 calendars!! Surely there must be an easier way!!!
As far i know its not possible. it works like outlook. Outlook support (until now) only 1 Exchange account (if u use RPC-HTTP you can switch profiles). And on a PDA there is only one client available. And other technical issue is security, like blackberry, there is a remote wipe function (wipe your PDA if your PDA get stolen). And this not possible if you have 2 exchange accounts (in case of 2 different domains example 2 different companies). Policies on the PDA will be forced by the exchange to make this possible.
So to give you a conclusion, until now its not possible. However if somebody find a hack, it could be possible. But microsoft doesnt support it (yet)

cheers sand bunny thought I maybe attempting the impossible!!
Bearing in mind I have two exchange calendars - is there a workaround that may enable me to get my work calendar in my kaiser? Is there an app that allows you to send the calendar file to my phone in a single file format and then enable me to load into the kaiser calendar? Alternatively is there a calendar sharing facility or publish claendars that may enable me to use both calendars in my kaiser??
anybody got any experience of using the following app:-
http://www.odysseyinc.com/subpages/Software/On-Schedule/PocketPC.htm#multiple
seems to state it can do what I am after - have installed it and trying to get the thing to work though it appears pretty complex!!!

Do you use GPRS or UMTS 2 sync your PDA? Or do you use the computer?
I use UMTS2 - I tried that On Schedule software and it doenst appear to do what I need it to! I have tried the registry change and then synched with the desktop pc as well as the exchange server and that doesnt work!!!
Even sent a .ics of my work calendar for the next week and that didnt work!
Surely it shouldnt be this difficult!!!
i do this. here is what i do.....
I have an exchange server that i use active sync with. this server is at company 1.
i have XpressMail running at company 2 that connects to an exchange server.
I have 2 calendars and 2 email accounts that are always in sync. I also have 2 address books. pretty neat.
at company 2, my desktop PC is always on.
Id runner that is exactly what I want to achieve - how do you do that? is it something that XpressMail has built in as I cant get anything to achieve this with Outlook 2007, exchange 2007 and active sync!
XpressMail is a free feature on all AT&T / Cingular smartphones.
if you do not have AT&T then you cannot use it.
http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/solutions/email-messaging/xpress-mail-personal-howto.jsp
I also use Facade. since Facade has an xpressmail plugin, i get both calanders and inboxes on my home screen.
rules me out then! back to the drawing board!
has anyone used pocket mirror? http://www.chapura.com/downloads_trials.php
Perhaps this warning is unnecessary for most users here but be careful where you install XpressMail because your employer might have a policy against it.

I have it.
One exchange server is my company serveur (used by activesync on my laptop)
The second one (maybe it's the trick) is one OTA (mail2web.com)
Working like a charme.
I am synchronizing with my laptop which has Outlook account on a server, my home (stand alone outlook) and mail2web.
rom I have two exchnage servers one mail2web personal and one work exchabge server! I want to synch over the air for my personal exchange account however would be happy to synch via laptop for the work exchange! this is where the problem starts! does your solution resolve that? I only really want the calendar to synch but just cannot find a solution which intergrates with two calendars!
jdsx I would be happy to synch over the pc for my work calendar as I could do this at the end of the day! do you think chapura will cater for this?
I was just wondering if there was a contact manager out there you could set up on your computer and edit to sync with your WM device? I had helio for awhile and they had a program set up to where you could change everything from the numbers to the pic's displayed from your PC and it updated it all on your phone. Any help?
Microsoft Outlook + ActiveSync
It is the same for all windows mobile devices pretty much, so i would recommend you try any of the ones already available. I promise you if you search you'll find plenty of them.
My personal recommendation is that you sign up @ mail2web, and setup a free exchange server for yourself. It will sync to the web outlook interface.
I'm gonna close this thread, as it really isn't device specific.
Hi All,
I apologize for posting here for a simple thing. I hv HTC Touch Diamond. I want to configure Outlook for my email, calendar etc with my corporate exchange server. Assuming I dont want to synchronize through activesync on my PC. Because from a PC I want to check mails using OWA. If I am not at my desk I want to receive emails on to my mobile.
I have tried all various ways of configuring it. One search has asked me to enable OMA(Outlook Mobile Access) on my corporate exchange server which is not in my hands.
Using GPRS is there a way I can receive corporate emails on to my HTC Diamond ?
Regards

hmm.. I am sure there will be other people who are interested in or already using by some way.
Thanks again Jeroen.

Although your company uses exchange they need to configure OMA on their servers. Although you say they have OWA that doesnt mean it will work on your mobile. they also need to have a specific version/service pack level on their exchange server.
The fact they use blackberrys suggests they havnt configured the OMA part that you need. If they did then your company will be the only ones who can help you as they will need to supply you with the OMA server address (usually different to your OWA one) and in many cases a certificate to use.
There really is nothing we can do, its all down to your companys IT department.
This is what you have to do:
Go to your Systems Administrator and ask him whether it's possible to receive email on your diamond. Minimal requirements are:
1. Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with SP2 installed
2. OWA and Mobile access enabled for your user account on your corportate network.
3. The root certificate of your Certificate Authority. This can be a third party certificate like Verisign or one from your own CA within your corporate network.
4. OWA certificate. This is probably the same ssl certificate you use when you try to access your corporate email from the internet like https://webmail.corporate.com
You have to import both the root certificate as well as the webmail certificate on your diamond and configure the settings.
I have configured this many times for my users with both Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 and works great.
Good luck and don't hesitate if you need more info.
The others are right in saying that OWA needs to be configured and available. The other snafu is if there is a cert or not... for example, my company does not use a cerrt and had a re-direct... so the real URL is:
http://mail.mycompany.com/exchange
but they publish the URL as
http://mail.mycomany.com
which has a redirect page to the above URL. You need to make sure you have the full URL: http://mail.mycompany.com/exchange when you configure mail and *IF* they have a cert or not... by default I beleive WM6 assumes a cert.
Thanks all for the suggestions. I have asked my company to enable OMA and configure it. But since we are a blackberry shop they said that they cant do it. Mean while I saw BBConnect for Diamond. Can I use this on Diamond to receive emails. Is there anything extra I need to do to work with BBConnect apart from Internet availability on Diamond ?

HTC HD7 with WM7 - there is no provision to synchronise with microsoft outlook using Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Centre.
Alternate way of using Exchange Activesync does look complicated
Please address the issue
This has been Answered
There are some workarounds & a 3rd party app, the solutions have been posted and can be easily found with a simple search (here is a hint, CompanionLink for outlook, Windows Live Connector, Gmail Sync). This is a very hot issue and I suspect there will be more solutions forthcomming
Cheers

I followed method two from the two ways to sync and worked just fine. I kind of like getting away from Outlook anyway. Hotmail/Windows Live is great since it can used through any computer contected to the internet to update contacts, phone numbers, etc. But I could see if this is an issue if you primarily use Outlook.

The problem I have is my company isn't running Exchange so for me to get my calendar and contacts I need a way to sync with Outlook.
I've tried Hotmail Connector and it works well for a one time sync but if you have a lot of changes to your calendar I have to make the changes in Outlook and Hotmail.
I refuse to pay $40 for something that should work out of the box.

Unfortunately, both are cloud solutions, which are unacceptable to me for both security and privacy.
If the WM7 device were seen as an external storage device (apparently doable via the registry), does anyone know whether this could faciliate a direct USB sync with Outlook 2010 32-bit?
Both solutions are OK for a one off copy of Calender & Contacts but do not perform a true contniuous Sync with Outlook and do not handle TASKS

no microsoft myphone. All syncing goes through your live email address (like hotmail). For me, I had all my contact info on gmail because of playing on android with my hd2.
1. Logged into hotmail
2. clicked on import contacts under the contacts view
3. Clicked on gmail and followed the instructions
Took about 10 minutes.
For outlook I'm pretty sure you can do something similar, though I think you might need outlook connector from the marketplace to bridge it over from outlook to hotmail. You will only have to do this once, but then I guess your outlook will not be a syncable acct on you phone.
Just looked on my hotmail and it says to export your outlook contacts to a file that you can then upload to hotmail.
I'm a Windows Mobile User for 2 years now (SE Xperia X1) and loved the way I can sync it with outlook.
I have all my contacts (approx 500) in outlook and also use the calendar (+5000 items)
I've spent some time in the past to get the info on my contacts straight and I'm very disappointed about the lack of synchronisation options between WP7 and outlook.
Why does everything needs to be cloud-based.
I don't sync every day, but neither use outlook on everyday basis.
I never experienced syncing problems on either calender/notes/contacts or mail.
I have read something about features that will be added in the near future into WP7 and hope that local outlook synchronisation is one of them.
Hi guys,
I`m new to WM7 and i`m trying t sync my contacts as well. I don`t use Outlook and idon`t have an account. Is there any other way to get my contacts on te phone?
Thanks
So the windows 7 software allows syncing to google calender, email and contacts?
I'm stunned that there is no native support for Outlook synchronization with Exchange - this is old school and what I consider a core component of any smartphone I purchase.
I've just bought a HD7 assuming it would have this functionality (why would I check for this on a Windows phone, next I'll need to check the thing makes calls), guess I'm going to have to sell it on.
There maybe Third party solutions but I can't imagine they're ever going to work as well as a direct sync with the Exchange server in my office, giving Contacts, Tasks, Calendar Items, etc.
Absolutely gutted.
B
Of course there's native support.
If you have an exchange server, you have ZERO to worry about.
The issue is people who use Outlook for Pop and Imap. Or people who just use it for tasks and contacts. Without a Hotmail Connector, there is no way to interface with Outlook like the old school Active Sync did.
Again though, If you have Exchange, it works exactly like it does on any other platform, if not better. The only thing lacking right now is Tasks.
Jimbonics,
I could kiss you. My wife wouldn't like it (and neither would you most likely, I'm stubbly)
I've been reading phone forums, reviews and specs for what seems like months trying to choose the right phone (offline voice command via bluetooth is essential for me but Android doesn't do it and other devices have flaky support) so I skim read this thread: my bad.
Thanks for making my day.
B
