Hey, I got a quick question. I'm currently running handcent on SuperCSDIv4 and I cant seam to disable the original android messaging notification so that both notifications dont show up everytime i get a msg. I tried disabling it and it still pops up. Anyway to fix that?
I was thinking of disabling it using autostarts. I just dont wanna mess up my incoming msg's if I do that...Suggestions anyone?

go into chomp's settings and turn off notifications.
then go into default android sms and turn off notifications.
go back into chomp and turn on notifications.
this should make it so your g1 only notifies via chomp. however, if you still get multiple alerts for a new sms, one of the envelopes will have a greenish border...this is the notification for chompsms. it looks almost exactly like the default icon, but it has the green color around the envelope thingy.
WOOO
Great! Simple! Easy! Awesome App Finally A Way To Text Without Sliding The Qwerty Out...great Work

I left dgalert installed and turned of notification in chompsms, made sure when asked which to use as a default, set chomp as default. Now i get the benefits of chompsms with one notification, just dont get the green envelope.
I kinda wish it wasn't a direct bite of the iPhone Texting module and it was made custom to the G1...its still cool though.
I kinda wish it supported MMS. Except for the better rates on international texting via Chomp, it's fairly useless to me.
I am on JH7, rooted, enabled non market apps using superoneclick v1.5
I changed the ringtone on settings, but when a text come or phone rings, the default/stock ringtones is the one that came out...
what happen??
T_T
help me, TIA
Try it again and then go back and check your settings to make sure it applied. Just a thought.

i checked it hundreds times... i send text to myself to try if the notification tone changed, but no, it didnt...
I solved it by downloading a sms app and turn on the the notification for text from the app and kill the notification from settings..
thanks for the reply =)

Cool you found a workaround, never had trouble myself. BTW, were you changing the notification sound in the messaging app or just in overall settings?
Got the same problem, also can't turn off the usb debugging mode and change most of settings. Looks like it appeared after I enabled sideloading and removed Start-Up Sound and some att apps.
I am on JH7, rooted, enabled non market apps.
Can anyone help?
Did you try to change the notification sounds within the app itself? Open SMS, hit menu, settings or options, then notification. Same with email.
ok I am having the worst luck with TINY problems on this D4. so I was having a problem where blurcontactsync was causing my contacts to crash if I tried to use them, I found a simple fix to rename the apk to .bak, and it worked
Now I noticed that when I get a text message I do not receive any kind of notification. No smiling message in the notification bar, no notification tone, no vibrate. I have gone into text message settings and set the tone, I have gone into general settings and set the tone. I even went into titainium backup and froze "Messaging, and Universal Inbox" because I thought they might be interfering just like the blur contacts sync. no luck Still do not receive any kind of indication not even the LED flashing.
all my other notifications work fine, if I get an email, or a missed call I get a notification tone and a flashing green light....I extensively searched XDA and people were having this problem with the droid X but it was some kind of update bug and was fixed with a new patch....anyone have any ideas what I could do to get my notifications working again??
Hmm I can't replicate this problem on mine but do you use the stock text messaging app? Try a third party texting app like Handcent and then send a test to yourself from text.vzw.com and see if you get the notification.

yea I'm currently using the stock app I was hoping to avoid a 3rd party app but I guess Im going to dive into that. I can just freeze my stock msg app right?

I wouldn't freeze the stock messaging app, I believe that's still necessary even with a 3rd party app (speaking of, I highly recommend GoSMS, but have also been happy with Handcent in the past).
I remember seeing over on DroidForums.net that someone froze their stock messaging app and wasn't receiving any texts after that. Give it a shot but if you don't get any texts for a while I'd unfreeze
so ive been doing some tinkering around on my phone. getting some new launchers, trying some new text apps..well i had enabled notifications for textra and disabled them for the stock app. well i like the stock app better, and deleted textra. now i dont know how to turn back on the notifcations for my messaging app!! i went thru every tab im pretty sure. i went into the apps area, and selected my messaging app and made sure notifcations was checked (i was unable to uncheck it..its greyed out), so thats good to go. i went into the settings when im in my messaging list and made sure notifcations was checked...
whats the deal?
i'm ok with being an idiot, but i can't seem to figure out how to get my incoming texts to give me a buzz on either the phone or samsung watch.
allow all notifications
they're all allowed, google messages thing. i might have to reinstall i guess. i see the notification on my screen and watch, but definitely don't get a buzz or a blip sound
oh, maybe because i have messages for web syncd and open
nope
Do you get other notification sounds?
yes, i'd hate reinstall it....but it might be about that time
Do you use the default Google message app?
Did you set a custom notification sound for text messages?
solved
