I read somewhere generally task killers are a bad idea.. but I'm trying to conserve battery I guess..
I been switching back and forth through a few, can't seem to find the right one..
Anyone got any ideas?
You really only need a task killer if you need to FC an app or end a bad app. Otherwise Android manages them just fine. But I use Advance Task Manager.
Automatic task kill or try juicedefender for the battery savings.

So Auto Kill lists and Ignore lists are a bad idea?? Non of my apps FC
I like Advanced Task Manager. You can create a shortcut on your homescreen which will end all applications/services not in your 'Exclude' list.
yeah yeah but someone its saying task managers aren't even necessary. true?

Ok thanks, quick question.. how many hours do you get after a full charge? Seems like we're pretty much running the same ROM/MODs
Between 14 and 15 hours is pretty common for me. And, that leaves me with about 40-45% battery life. This is with pretty moderate usage; Twitter, Facebook, web browsing, WiFI, etc.
if i use my phone for regular use, my phone is dead within 10 hours.
I use advanced task killer and it works great. plus its free
I'm getting rid of Taskiller now and I'll see what happens.

In the market, and it kills apps!!!
Oh, nice. Tried it and it seems to be working perfectly on my ADP1.
Yes..seems to work...SWEET!!!
def needs refinement but so far looking good.
it needs to seperate between processes and apps.
Def nice start can't wait to see some updates on it.

Preferably some graphical updates. It can look neater than what it does. And as stated, seperating between processes & apps would be good

AGREED!
How do you know whats what? I mean if you kill a process you could cause a reset/freeze right?
From what I have seen, it can kill the process for a particular program but it still runs in the background and will possibly crash the phone. Hasn't happened yet but might after trying more programs. The only way it might lock up the entire phone is if you close one of the "stock background processes such as android.process.* " but then again... yes we still need something to kill the entire application. It's a good bit different that WM, when you kill the process for the application, then the application closes.

i hate to correct you but the process' are the applications. you mean Services' which are not listed as of yet... i emailed arron and i have not gotten a reply about that. i told him it would be awesome to list the process' and services linked to them so we could kill it all
Looks like the application was updated and it now kills programs! Excellent application, definitely one the best around now.
Questions about TASK MANAGER?
I have it installed on my g1, obviously because I have root access. I noticed there are some apps that keep coming back seconds after I terminate them. For example Craigslist and self help. Anyone know why craigslist keeps coming back. I understand selfhelp may be a background program. Also I restarted my phone and taskmanager shows these programs are already running? Whats up with that?
The 2nd question is when I terminate some apps like powermanager for example, I can still see it running in my notifications and I know it is still running because when I plug in the g1 my power setting are applied. Because it doesn't show it in the in the taskmanager list.
Does anyone else notice this? Task manager doesnt seem to eliminate some apps from running. It makes question that it really works. Can anyone verify this?

Yea it keeps coming back because it loads a Service that isn't listed on this program that continues to run the search command. The intervals are not that frequent but it keeps it loaded.
Craigslist checks every few minutes for postings, I believe. You can track particular posts. It's annoying that you can't disable it.
Can´t find it in the market..

Taskmanager has been removed in favor of the premium app Advanced Taskmanager. It's only $0.99 and is a lot better then the old Taskmanager.

As far as I understand, with 2.2 task killers became almost useless in killing tasks.....correct me if I am wrong....
I have some apps on my phone that use lots of data connection and drain battery and every time i kill them, they come back again. So I was thinking instead of killing the app, maybe i can prevent in from accessing data connection. Is there an app for this ?
Can you tell me where you got that info about task killers not working in froyo? Cause I've noticed that And can't find any info about it.

I had Advanced Task Manager and developer noted that in 2.2 OS works differently and therefore task manager doesnt really do the job. Then in here, market comments, and google, i also found the same info.
droidwall is a firewall for rooted phones works good as long as you remember to turn to add or remove exceptions.
theres also apn droid that turns data on/off out right

I see. I got the same response from the system panel developer. I made a thread about it here but didn't get all the answers.
Do you know if this is a permanent change with the way froyo handles apps and multi tasking? Or is this just something temporary because It's not the final froyo release? I'm very curious.

Yep, it's a feature
Find power master, battery saving options, clean up in suspend.
Also auto start had an impact.

Bit odd though this one. Its actually disabled.
Just wanted to add that it is still doing it on android 9 fresh install. Apps from my app switcher just go missing entirely. I dont know if this is intended behavior but its incredibly annoying for a phone with 12gb ram.
I'm having major issues with the S21 ultra (i even have the 512GB/16GB ram). For example, apps like whatsapp sometimes do not receive any message until i open the app. Ive checked all the options not to optimize it or restrict background data etc, but the issue is still the same.
I had before honor 10 with 4gb ram and NEVER faced this problem
go into deep sleeping apps, and put whatsapp in never sleep.

Also tried that and didn't have any effect.
Try disabling all power management. To check to see if you did get all the settings go to Developer Options>Standby apps, all buckets will show as active and their state can not be altered if power management is disabled.
Android can manage fine without it. For battery issues find the apks causing it and deal directly with them.
Clear system cache on the boot menu.
As for Whatsapp, I keep it disabled at all times, no likey, #10.
Power management, destroyer of worlds
it seems that latest ROM updates (I think I have this on all AUB* ones) is weirdly strict on background activities and cuts every one of them. my whole device acts strangely - apps not showing notification or showing them late (hours later than they were supposed to show), my apps are not updating: I have to repeatedly FC play store, then clear its cache so that currently installing app changes state from downloading to installing, than do it again to change state fomr installing to installed etc. worked fine on AUA* ones. it is really annoying. btw I tried to clear cache and dalvik/art cache from recovery, but that did not help. I have not tried factory seset yet...
I've had the delayed notifications problem with my Note 20 Ultra and now again with the S21 Ultra.
Some apps like the Ring Alarm come in instantly but others like eBay, PayPal ETC do not.
I have tried everything under the sun to get instant notifications to no avail.
Sure wish there was an easy fix for this problem.
In my opinion the devicemanager app isnt working properly... On my friends s20 when you end an app via taskmanager its really off when the app is in "deep standbye" on my s21 ultra its not... Think the device manager need some Updates...

Lol, it never worked properly.
Try disabling all power management. May or may not help. It created conflicts on my 10+ that ate battery and caused erratic behavior.
I simple close all apps at the end of the day.
Cloud apps may run even in deep standby mode and suck battery. Google system apks are prime suspects.

Change for the sank of change isn't improvement.
Since Pie Android has been backsliding bad.
It seems that it was data corruption during regular OTA. Factory reset seems to fix problems for me.
So out of "Optimize battery usage" or "Never sleeping apps" which is the better one to select?
You can only select one or the other but not both.

Do not use power management, it's a cluster F.
Android can take care of itself nicely if you correct the root causes for the excess battery usage.
Simply closing out apps like Brave with task manager after you're done with it is sometimes all that's needed.
Apps will automatically close within 10-20 seconds after I leave the app through the home gesture. It drives me crazy that literally no app will stay open in my recents. I tried locking the apps in the recents, it did not help. (What's the sense of locking apps there then?!)
Anyone has a solution/workaround?
Just select to not optimize that app in battery settings....
I'm on OOS 13 Open Beta 2 build and haven't encountered this issue at all. Apps stay in background for hours honestly.
Maybe check Battery Optimization for each of those apps and permit Background Activity?

I did that but it doesn't help. Apps stay in recent when I leave them but if I open it again seconds later, I'm greeted with the splash screen and for example Chrome reloads the website.

Weird doesn't happen to me at all. I just checked, and I am even in battery saver mode. Programs stay in RAM as expected, and load immediately in the state/position they are in. Android 12 A.15, rooted, tons of debloat via adb disable. I also even run Malwarebytes with realtime stuff and scanning enabled.

I'm sure it does, try opening one app, copy from one, switch to another and paste, continue doing that. Eventually it'll lose your position.
Apps remain in recents yes but the absolute state is not kept.

Thats so weird because they won't stay open in the background for like most of us. 10 seconds after I minimize an app like Gmail, then reopen it, I will be greeted with the Spash Screen of Gmail which takes like 1-2 seconds.
Chrome is even more annoying, since the website I was on 10 seconds ago, will have to reload.
It's stupidly annoying and I tried everything to get it fixed. With this behavior of RAM, that Apps close withing literaly seconds, 2 GB RAM could have also made the deal
