Question Closing background apps - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

I'm having major issues with the S21 ultra (i even have the 512GB/16GB ram). For example, apps like whatsapp sometimes do not receive any message until i open the app. Ive checked all the options not to optimize it or restrict background data etc, but the issue is still the same.
I had before honor 10 with 4gb ram and NEVER faced this problem

go into deep sleeping apps, and put whatsapp in never sleep.

I have done that and even turned off this feature completely for all apps. But this still has not solved my problem. any other ideas?

Also tried that and didn't have any effect.

Try disabling all power management. To check to see if you did get all the settings go to Developer Options>Standby apps, all buckets will show as active and their state can not be altered if power management is disabled.
Android can manage fine without it. For battery issues find the apks causing it and deal directly with them.
Clear system cache on the boot menu.
As for Whatsapp, I keep it disabled at all times, no likey, #10.
Power management, destroyer of worlds

it seems that latest ROM updates (I think I have this on all AUB* ones) is weirdly strict on background activities and cuts every one of them. my whole device acts strangely - apps not showing notification or showing them late (hours later than they were supposed to show), my apps are not updating: I have to repeatedly FC play store, then clear its cache so that currently installing app changes state from downloading to installing, than do it again to change state fomr installing to installed etc. worked fine on AUA* ones. it is really annoying. btw I tried to clear cache and dalvik/art cache from recovery, but that did not help. I have not tried factory seset yet...

I've had the delayed notifications problem with my Note 20 Ultra and now again with the S21 Ultra.
Some apps like the Ring Alarm come in instantly but others like eBay, PayPal ETC do not.
I have tried everything under the sun to get instant notifications to no avail.
Sure wish there was an easy fix for this problem.

In my opinion the devicemanager app isnt working properly... On my friends s20 when you end an app via taskmanager its really off when the app is in "deep standbye" on my s21 ultra its not... Think the device manager need some Updates...

Lol, it never worked properly.
Try disabling all power management. May or may not help. It created conflicts on my 10+ that ate battery and caused erratic behavior.
I simple close all apps at the end of the day.
Cloud apps may run even in deep standby mode and suck battery. Google system apks are prime suspects.

Great if it works... and it's a lick when doesn't.
Without scope storage it would have had better performance but big sister Google wrecking products as usual.

Change for the sank of change isn't improvement.
Since Pie Android has been backsliding bad.

It seems that it was data corruption during regular OTA. Factory reset seems to fix problems for me.

So out of "Optimize battery usage" or "Never sleeping apps" which is the better one to select?
You can only select one or the other but not both.

Do not use power management, it's a cluster F.
Android can take care of itself nicely if you correct the root causes for the excess battery usage.
Simply closing out apps like Brave with task manager after you're done with it is sometimes all that's needed.

Low RAM available in Honor Play

Hi guys, my EMUI version is 8.2 and I am concerned about ram management of honor play.
Most of apps reload when launch them from recent apps.
Even youtube also reloads that too playing video if i switch to some another app.
Available ram in my phone is around 1Gb only (out of 4Gb). Earlier I used redmi note 3 3Gb variant and in that 1.5Gb ram was available.
Do you guys are also facing the same problem or is there any setting for ram management.
P.S. This is a new unit and I can still replace it till tomorrow.
Nope. Somehow mine always keep around 2gb free also if it dips below 800mb, just restart the phone.
Or goto phone manager app management and change automatic control to manual and change the auto run to FALSE

But after 6-7 hrs available ram drops to 1.2Gb.

Have you added apps to the "ignore battery optimization"? I also lock apps that I want to run in the background too for faster load times.... Works perfectly for me
I'm on the official Emui 8.2
For ignore battery optimization options follow this path
Settings, apps and notifications, apps, then choose the icon at the bottom "settings", special access, ignore battery optimization.
Change the tab to all apps and then click an app and add to ignore battery optimization.
Don't we have a phone manager app for stuff like that? Or does the phone manager only help with the storage?

How to prevent ColorOS[CN] setting from changing back?

I realized that when I change some settings in ColorOS it magically changes back without telling you.
I installed Google Assistant from the app store. It required Google Assistance to be selected as the default Assistive App [default value : none]. After I changed that.. it changes back at some random amount of time.. I'm not able to work out how long it takes for it revert the setting.. but sure enough it will.
Another App is LastPass.. It requires me to Enable Autofill from accessbility Options.. Once again I turn it ON.. after some random amount of time it will revert it back to "Off"...
What can be done to stop this from happening?

Happens to some degree in the EU model too, noticed the lastpass app autofill stops amongst other things. Am thinkin maybe it's the Phone Manager app which I think kills battery intensive apps if you allow it

I'll give this a try.. I've gone into phone manager -> startup manager and allowed the two apps.. the two apps wasn't there even though I have allowed the app to run in the background.
We will see tomorrow.

Man,I don't know what the issue is but read on the Realme community that the OS just reverts to defaults to ensure proper functioning of the phone,
ColorOS is certainly the biggest downside to this phone. Am missing OxygenOS on my 6T a lot though I'm Gona stick with the x2 pro for now,
Bought the phone for its flagship specs and storage and and to get away from the hassle of messing around with the phones setting's with tricks and mods.
Have decided to just accept colourOS for what it us.,though there is some battery drain,it's not awful and I'm still getting notifications.
Will just have to hope things improve with updates and the next big update should improve things a lot, mind you,it's a long way to April ?
Not notice anything revert on mine... This sounds like the same issue I had on the mi 9... I can't remember how I solved it but it was something to do with the auto security checks the phone manager app did... After a set amount of time the phone manager would perform certain checks and reset certain options throughout the operating system.

Sounds about right,Have feeling the phone manager app has something to do with it.It does not like the developer options
Ok.. I found my work around for now.
I'm using tasker every 10 mins to change the accessibility options for all the apps that need it and set the google assistant to default.
Working ok so far for the last day.

Seems like more trouble than its worth, the only settings I'm having trouble keeping are the animation ones, but honestly it's not bothering me anymore. Have animations setting set to fast in the stock launcher setting and it's not so bad.

Yep, it's a feature
Find power master, battery saving options, clean up in suspend.
Also auto start had an impact.

Bit odd though this one. Its actually disabled.
Just wanted to add that it is still doing it on android 9 fresh install. Apps from my app switcher just go missing entirely. I dont know if this is intended behavior but its incredibly annoying for a phone with 12gb ram.

did you give it adb permissions?
Turn off all power management and find the trouble causing apps.
Doze apps will just cause trouble.
Android will run fine by its self; using any power management will cause erratic behavior and... excessive battery usage.
More than likely it's Goggle Play Services or one of it's dependencies like Transport that's sucking a lot of the battery.

Hard to say which apks are to blame but this is a prime offender. 3rd party apps including Samsung's bloatware can do it.
Trash apps like FB, WhatsApp etc.
Power management can also do it by creating conflicts and endless polling.
Power drain should be well under 1%@hr with always on AOD off.
You need to track down the offenders. It will be much harder to do on 10 and above then on Pie because of stupid Google app security protocols.

Yes its a shame that we cant completely disable background tracking for apps. Like an ultra battery saver but without the honescreen and with WhatsApp (that only works when in foreground)

Try disabling Google Play Services in apps and see if that helps.
Karma Firewall works very well and almost zero battery. Unfortunately it's logging feature doesn't work* in Q and above.

Question Did anyone find a solution against the agressive background killing of apps?

Apps will automatically close within 10-20 seconds after I leave the app through the home gesture. It drives me crazy that literally no app will stay open in my recents. I tried locking the apps in the recents, it did not help. (What's the sense of locking apps there then?!)
Anyone has a solution/workaround?
Just select to not optimize that app in battery settings....
I'm on OOS 13 Open Beta 2 build and haven't encountered this issue at all. Apps stay in background for hours honestly.
Maybe check Battery Optimization for each of those apps and permit Background Activity?

I did that but it doesn't help. Apps stay in recent when I leave them but if I open it again seconds later, I'm greeted with the splash screen and for example Chrome reloads the website.

Weird doesn't happen to me at all. I just checked, and I am even in battery saver mode. Programs stay in RAM as expected, and load immediately in the state/position they are in. Android 12 A.15, rooted, tons of debloat via adb disable. I also even run Malwarebytes with realtime stuff and scanning enabled.

I'm sure it does, try opening one app, copy from one, switch to another and paste, continue doing that. Eventually it'll lose your position.
Apps remain in recents yes but the absolute state is not kept.

Thats so weird because they won't stay open in the background for like most of us. 10 seconds after I minimize an app like Gmail, then reopen it, I will be greeted with the Spash Screen of Gmail which takes like 1-2 seconds.
Chrome is even more annoying, since the website I was on 10 seconds ago, will have to reload.
It's stupidly annoying and I tried everything to get it fixed. With this behavior of RAM, that Apps close withing literaly seconds, 2 GB RAM could have also made the deal
