Hi guys,
I finally found a way to prevent the system form closing applications that I want to keep in background.
First, what most where suggesting is this:
Settings -> Battery -> App Launch -> Turn off "manage automatically" and allow the apps you want to to "auto-launch", "secondary launch" and "run in background"
This is a first step and some users reported it also helped with idle battery drain, however it did not help and system was still closing MX player like crazy if I paused whatever I was playing for a few seconds, so here is the important step for apps you want to keep in background:
Settings -> Apps -> Apps -> three dots on upper right corner -> special access -> battery optimization -> change dropdown menu to "all apps" -> change apps you want to keep in background to "don't allow, may drain battery more quickly"
That's it!

Restarting the phone fixed the problem
Before restart my device was 48Hrs up
Will wait and see when the system stops multi-tasking
B.t.w. why there is no memory usage visible anymore in settings with EMUI 9?
I noticed it closed some apps, right after using the camera for a bit.
I cant keep youtube running in the background. Wont it still run after doing this? Thank you
already done this but spotify keeps closing.

I restart every morning after a charge because there must be memory leaks. After a day of no restarting it holds at most 2 apps in memory of that.
Also switching to fixed resolution helped a lot for me. There's deffo a bug there.
Is there an way to setup the mail to push instead of 15 min?

Same for me. Seems to do it more when using night mode. Killed Audible multiple times taking night shots yesterday evening. ?
Also there is a memory leak as the time goes on, my device didn't slow down, but i had stutters while playing games.
Phone needs seriously more polish, specifically the camera that closes down a lot of apps, doesn't feel like 6gb.

Hope this is a Typo.
The feature "Ignore Battery Optimisation" is there to allow you to exclude certain apps you want to keep running in the background from being closed by the battery optimisation feature. You do this by adding an app to the "Allow" list, (hence the, "Not recommended, may drain your battery more quickly), and NOT the opposite.
I know you're trying to be helpful but mistakes like this can cause more confusion.

When I had the Mate 20 Pro I had to turn OFF the switch (circle in left side of the pill switch) to "disable battery" optimization in order to allow MX Player to run in background and not being closed every time 5 seconds after I paused something

I think the setting he's referring to is to turn off the notification warning of battery drain which won't help an app stay alive in the background but at least you don't get a notification that you are going to ignore anyway.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I need to stop from being managed automatically in order to keep the clock and battery tiles from being stopped every time the screen is locked?
I've been looking for this for ages! It works! Cheers buddy. You're a legend.
There is video tutorial
https://youtu.be/K3DBwNRuQqM
So this is really pissing me off I like to keep around 25 apps running in the background in the recent apps .but every morning I wake up and there all shut down apart from 4 apps.this is driving me nuts.i had this issue on my note 8 one ui and fixed the issue by going to the battery and turning off auto disable unused apps, and turning off put unused apps to sleep.and turning off auto optimisation.then I had to go to settings then apps then click on an app then click on Battery ,then I had to click allow background activity (app can use battery in the background) I did this with all my apps and it worked on my note 8 with one ui
But the problem lies with my new note 9 I've factory reset it .and tried these same things I did with my note 8 but still I wake up in the morning and all my apps are gone from recent apps.ive even tried to click do not allow to use battery in the background and even that makes all my apps disappear apart from 4 or 5
Please experts I really would appreciate some help here as this is driving me crazy just need to keep all my apps running .its on the lasted fw updated it last night thinking maybe the older one ui was the issue but even on the nee update it still kills all my apps I've checked in deviled setting also and background process limit is set on standard like it should be
So please note 9 experts if you can help I'll be so grateful.
Oh btw I'm on the latest September security update android
One ui version 1.
Android v9. It's a uk unlocked note 9 on stock uk fw
I'll pay cash into someones pay pal account that can tell me how to keep all my apps running in the background in recent apps over night.yes I'm that desperate to fix this bs .
Anyone care about keeping apps alive in the background on there note 9 ?I guess most people dont care that there phone wont keep there apps open on one ui.i see so many threads like mine asking how to keep the apps running but there is never a solution to any of the 30 threads I've read about this.ps I've brought 4 note 4s to test and they all kill the apps over night regardless of disabling the battery optimisation features
Why u need 25 apps in background? ?? u have some prob bro....first fix you ? than phone....omg
Bump for help I'm going to ignore that clown. He just a little kid 1997 explains it all smh ,anyway I just would like to keep around 10 of my favourite apps open chrome, firefox, opera, youtube vanced,my bank app,PayPal and my favourite games .is this possible on note 9 one ui because it is possible on my note
8 one ui and it was possible on oreo also.
But like I said I'll wake up in the morning and there gone

Thanks I've tried locking the app in goodlock app switcher apps still close after 8 hours idle
No exaggeration I can link around 30 threads from reddit and here and android central all with this issue and there seem to be no resolution, people are just saying pie on the note 9 is way way more aggressive at shutting down down apps in the background than pie on note 8. It's such a shame I brought 4 note 9 to test them all and they all have this issue.like I said oreo does not have this problem.im on the latest bootloader so I cant downgrade

Sucks your having issues. It seems some people are having endless issues with apps closing.
Personally, I found that the earlier version of pie were bad with closing apps, but it got better for me as the updates came. I still have to de-optimize widgets for them to update properly, but it never closes apps from my recents menu.
What do you mean by closing your apps? Are they gone from the recents menu, or is it just sending you to the main page of said app, instead of taking you back to where you were?

That shouldn't happen. I manually clear apps ass I go myself, but if I don't they build up.
It really sounds you have auto-resrart on, where your phone restarts at a pre-set time every day and closes all recent apps. But with 4 or 5 that sounds odd. I'll try opening 15 or 20 apps and see if they don't get closed out of memory as I use the phone.

I'm having major issues with the S21 ultra (i even have the 512GB/16GB ram). For example, apps like whatsapp sometimes do not receive any message until i open the app. Ive checked all the options not to optimize it or restrict background data etc, but the issue is still the same.

Try disabling all power management. To check to see if you did get all the settings go to Developer Options>Standby apps, all buckets will show as active and their state can not be altered if power management is disabled.
Android can manage fine without it. For battery issues find the apks causing it and deal directly with them.
Clear system cache on the boot menu.
As for Whatsapp, I keep it disabled at all times, no likey, #10.
Power management, destroyer of worlds
it seems that latest ROM updates (I think I have this on all AUB* ones) is weirdly strict on background activities and cuts every one of them. my whole device acts strangely - apps not showing notification or showing them late (hours later than they were supposed to show), my apps are not updating: I have to repeatedly FC play store, then clear its cache so that currently installing app changes state from downloading to installing, than do it again to change state fomr installing to installed etc. worked fine on AUA* ones. it is really annoying. btw I tried to clear cache and dalvik/art cache from recovery, but that did not help. I have not tried factory seset yet...
I've had the delayed notifications problem with my Note 20 Ultra and now again with the S21 Ultra.
Some apps like the Ring Alarm come in instantly but others like eBay, PayPal ETC do not.
I have tried everything under the sun to get instant notifications to no avail.
Sure wish there was an easy fix for this problem.

Lol, it never worked properly.
Try disabling all power management. May or may not help. It created conflicts on my 10+ that ate battery and caused erratic behavior.
I simple close all apps at the end of the day.
Cloud apps may run even in deep standby mode and suck battery. Google system apks are prime suspects.

Change for the sank of change isn't improvement.
Since Pie Android has been backsliding bad.
It seems that it was data corruption during regular OTA. Factory reset seems to fix problems for me.
So out of "Optimize battery usage" or "Never sleeping apps" which is the better one to select?
You can only select one or the other but not both.

Do not use power management, it's a cluster F.
Android can take care of itself nicely if you correct the root causes for the excess battery usage.
Simply closing out apps like Brave with task manager after you're done with it is sometimes all that's needed.
So this morning I noticed this app I've never seen before, Uwb Application hogged 14%. I've never seen it before. What does it do and how do I stop it? I recently installed microg and YouTube vanced? Does this have anything to do with these apps? Looked on Google and can't find anything on it. Help please!!

Sounds good thanks man. I actually removed allow background services. I initially blocked it, but then allowed it so it's a default. Today there is no battery drain at all. I wonder if it'll come back after a reset. If it does, I'll just disable the app.
there is a reddit post for this too,
so this came AFTER i installed the galaxy labs app and the culprit seems to be memory manage app (i dont know the name) UWB was draining almost half of my battery every day and i thought it belonged to my newly shipped galaxy buds pro but NOPE it was a app bug so i unistalled every galaxy lab/agent and module , then went to setting>apps>show system apps> force stop both UWB apps and also did force stop google play services too for some reason ( i hate it) then it got all FIXED !
also got the best battery life after that for 8hrs of SOT for 64%of usage in 16hrs of battery life...which was CRAZY ... but now im back to 4hrs of SOT in 50% of usage which is normal...
i dont charge my battery to 100% so i charge from 20% to 85% that's why i can't share my full battery usage
do those and you'll see the difference in an instant

yes i unistall all related to Uwb app too , back to my post i used an app i linked to do that .
I tried uninstalling Labs, Memory Guardian and all associated apps...didn't work. UWB application and UWB test still ran constantly sucking up battery. Tried force stopping play services and those apps but nada. Then I tried a package disabler for those and it STILL RAN in the background! The ADB solution above worked and rather painlessly. It's either that or a factory reset so...try ADB it saved my device

Apps will automatically close within 10-20 seconds after I leave the app through the home gesture. It drives me crazy that literally no app will stay open in my recents. I tried locking the apps in the recents, it did not help. (What's the sense of locking apps there then?!)
Anyone has a solution/workaround?
Just select to not optimize that app in battery settings....

Maybe check Battery Optimization for each of those apps and permit Background Activity?

Weird doesn't happen to me at all. I just checked, and I am even in battery saver mode. Programs stay in RAM as expected, and load immediately in the state/position they are in. Android 12 A.15, rooted, tons of debloat via adb disable. I also even run Malwarebytes with realtime stuff and scanning enabled.

I'm sure it does, try opening one app, copy from one, switch to another and paste, continue doing that. Eventually it'll lose your position.
Apps remain in recents yes but the absolute state is not kept.

Um, yes, they absolutely stay in whatever position I left it in for as long as I leave it. Do I screen record for you?

Thats so weird because they won't stay open in the background for like most of us. 10 seconds after I minimize an app like Gmail, then reopen it, I will be greeted with the Spash Screen of Gmail which takes like 1-2 seconds.
Chrome is even more annoying, since the website I was on 10 seconds ago, will have to reload.
It's stupidly annoying and I tried everything to get it fixed. With this behavior of RAM, that Apps close withing literaly seconds, 2 GB RAM could have also made the deal
