I watch American Idol. And I love the Vote for the Worst website (Link not allowed ).
I wanted to vote for the "VFTW" candidate, but I also didn't want to spend hours of my life doing it. I have unlimited texting from AT&T, so I decided to write this app to help me automatically vote.
In the "Enter Number" box, you enter the number you want to send the text to (i.e. 5703). The browse button lets you select from your contacts.
In the "Count" box, you specify the total number of texts you want to send.
The "Base Delay" box specifies how quickly to send them (2000 mS = 2 seconds). I built this delay in because American Idol will through out texts that they determine are "not valid". I figure a tween could probably send about 1 per second, so a normal human could probably send one every 2 seconds. YMMV. I also added a randomization factor to the delay of 1/2 second + 20% base delay - this way, AI doesn't get 1000 texts at 2 seconds apart each; they get one, then 1.5 s another, then 2.5 s later another, etc.
The "Message" box is the message you want to send. For American Idol it should be "vote".
Once you've filled in all the fields, click "Send". If you decide to stop voting before the app quits, just click "Cancel".
There are two files attached to this post; you only need one. The .zip file contains an installer that will run on your computer if you have your Windows Mobile smartphone connected via Activesync. The CAB file will run directly on your phone to install the software.
All my code is included in the install - I'm a big fan of Open Source.
Let me know of any problems at maxvip99 -AT- hotmail -DOT- com.
Thanks!

Oh great, I was just thinking that I do not get enough text spam and was wishing that people would start developing easier ways for people to spam me.
As with every " plague " , how about providing an antidote ( text spam filter ) with your poison.
On a side note: I can only imagine what I would feel like if I was a hopeful, very talented singer, trying my hardest to get one little break in the music business, only to get thwarted by a bunch of " no life losers " who skew the " honest " results by voting for the worst singer because they have no hopes or dreams of their own and way too much time on their hands. You seem to be inventive and talented in app developing, why not persue this instead of trying to ruin other people's dreams.

ADDRESS BOOK & OTHER PROBS FACED SINCE GETTING KAISER!-1st TIME HTC USER, NEED HELP!
Hey Everyone..
Have major probs with the following:
1) You can't have more than one mobile number per person. Some people have more than one number
2) Being able to create lists for purpose of emailing or texting a list. I mean you can create categories but you cant use the categories for anything apart from filtering your address book!???
3) Also being able to insert a number from your phonebook within a message (without sending a vcard)
4) When you slide out the keyboards, my appointments cant be seen on the screen (if held vertically you normally can, but when keyboard out you cant, well you can see the top of the text for this only) and you cant scroll down to see it neway but you should be able to see this only on the one page.
5) Speaker phone microphone doesnt work properly. People complain they cant hear me!
Anything out there to solve these?
Really appreicate your help.
1) You can't have more than one mobile number per person. Some people have more than one number
There more than 1 spot for phone #'s. work tel, mobile tel, home tel, car tel, company tel, work2 tel, home 2 tel. If someone you know has more than 7 phone #'s, and you didnt get them on the first 7 phones, they're probably dead in a gutter anyway.
2) Being able to create lists for purpose of emailing or texting a list. I mean you can create categories but you cant use the categories for anything apart from filtering your address book!???
Create lists for emailing or texting? Not sure what you mean here. But when sending email or texts, click on the "To:" and it will bring up your address book and you can add to your list of people getting it.
3) Also being able to insert a number from your phonebook within a message (without sending a vcard)
Pull up contacts. Select|copy| paste. It's just like windows XP.
The speaker phone sucks on these phones and has since the first generation. Learn to not use it.
Hey Cheers for your reply,
in regards to your answers
1) Yep, I know you can put more than one number within that section, but lets say they have 2 mobile numbers (which many do these days to save money). Then if you put it within the home field you cant text it...?? Again anything that can be uploaded to improve this?
2) In terms of lists. On virtually every other fone..nokias, sony ericssons PDA phones, samsungs etc. You have the capability of making a list. i.e. if you are messaging the same group of people on a regular basis...e.g. for work you deal with a group of 10 contacts for a certain issue..you can select that list and it will come up with contacts in the "to" bit without selecting the contacts individually all the time..this is usually basic functionality in most phones to do this for texting and emailing..but surprised the Windows mobile doesnt have this. Its a function I have used a lot...so wondering if there is any program or something which can be uploaded to improve this?
3) With the copy and paste function tried it..and didnt work..even if it did.. it is really impractical..imagine you are writing a text to someone..Hi.blah blah blah..btw the number of ... is...and then as most phones again have..which is really basic..there should be an insert number from phonebook..but instead you have to come out of the whole text..go to the phonebook (which i have done btw)..copy the number..but guess what..as soon as I go back to the text..it doesnt allow me to paste it! Basic functionality problem there
4) Any body got a response to my number 4 above?
5) Yep thats what im trying to do
Thanks for your help..and appreciate if anybody has more suggestions for the above

You can definately text the second, third, or whatever number in your phone book. Create your message and rather than starting to type the name of your contact into the 'To' field, click in the empty 'To' field to bring up the address book. if you select a contact with more than one phone number, a box will pop up asking you which number you want to use.

You're right - it's a pretty common fuction and WM6 should have it. There may some commercial app available but I'm not aware of anything.
I normally try to get the phone number before starting the text! it's then so much easier to insert when you're writing your text. Again, it's a pity this fuctionality isn't built in.
4) When you slide out the keyboards, my appointments cant be seen on the screen (if held vertically you normally can, but when keyboard out you cant, well you can see the top of the text for this only) and you cant scroll down to see it neway but you should be able to see this only on the one page.
You mean the HTC home plugin takes up to much room? Yep, it does! But then you don't need to use it. Experiment with different home screen plugins from SPB software, such as SPB diary, SPB shell etc. You should be able to find something to suit you.
5) Speaker phone microphone doesnt work properly. People complain they cant hear me!

The speakerphone sucks? Does it? I don't use it, but will have to test it now!

I agree its a little inconvenient, but if your a fast user you can easily tap the windows key then contacts then quickly locate the contact, copy the number and then paste it into the msg (by hitting start then messages or the message button on the phone itself).
# 4 You need some software like SPB Mobile Shell (search for the thread called post a picture of your today screen). Because there is no current way to decrease the size of the clock. You can disable the HTC Home plug in (clock and sms/phone/email notification icons) then the whole screen will be the bottom part, but you forego the cool weather/launcher/profiles/today plugin of HTC.
# 5 speaker phone like camera plain SUCKS!!!
Hi Everyone,
I must start by saying I'm new to installing software on my phone, I used to add and remove things all the time with my PDAs but have never really seen the advantage of doing so on my phone but now battery life is decent and the Internet is cheap and fast I'm really interested in doing lots more with my Varrio III.
So, for the record, I have a new MDA Vario III from T-Mobile in the UK with 'unlimited' data. Here are some things I'd like to do with my phone. I'm not too sure what I *can* and *can't* do.
1) Record Phone calls.
For work I would really like to be able to record both ends of a phone-call and store that recording on the phones memory card and/or internal memory. Is this possible?
2) Copy SMS Messages to Exchange Server
I'd like my phone to automatically sent my SMS messages to my email so I can access (view) them in Outlook, Outlook Web Access etc.
3) SMS Rules
I see I can make sub-folders under the SMS Inbox. Could I set up a rule so messages from certain senders is sent to a sub-folder. For example messages from my bank to one folder and delivery status notifications to another?
4) Data Radio Control
Most of the time there is no reason my phone needs to connect to anything faster than GPRS. Is there a tool that would let me turn off the 3G and HSPDA radios as I feel like it. While HSDPA is quick it seems to EAT battery!
5) Data Timer
Simple one here, I'm looking for a really light weight tool to add up 'bandwidth' I'm using. Just something like, ' Since you last reset the stats, you have used (transferred) 25MB of data'.
6) No signal notification.
I'd love for my phone to vibrate or play a sound when I lose cellular reception and when I find it again. And just for fun a different alert when I change cellular cells.
GPS IDEAS/QUESTIONS
7) GPS Tracking and updating to web server
Ok, I've been playing with TrackMe and it is exactly what I've been looking for. But uploading every few minutes seems to use a boat load of battery. I'm looking for your opinion on the optimum settings for TrackMe so I'm not using so much battery. For the record, I'm mostly walking so I'm not covering huge distances very quickly.
8) GPS based SMS sending.
Say I arrive at a train station, I'd love my phone to remind me to text the office and tell them I'm about to get on a train. Now, say I come within 5km of a location, I'd love my phone to text a predefined group of people with a message like, 'Hey, I'm currently in Glasgow, fancy a coffee?' or something like that. Any ideas?
QR Codes
9)I have a 2D barcode reader application and I would like ideas how I could use QR codes etc. What is everyone using them for, also is there an application that would read bar codes using the phones camera?
So those are my 9 requests. I've done a little googling but I'm really not sure what applications to look for and once I find applications if they are any good. Looking for your advice and recommendations
Thanks in advance,
ross(cbrown)
Sounds like most of what you want it out there. I know there was a thread about a week ago in the software section in regards to recording phone calls. There is a thread here about tracking gps, another about messing with your data (kaiser tweak) etc etc. just search around.
This thread reminds me of a bunch of those threads from april fools day. He can't be serious.

In his defense, searching and identifying relevant bits of information is not the easiest thing to do on this forum. This place used to be more friendly than it has become. Rosscbrown: try posting your request on MoDaCo's forum, chances are people there will be more likely to make suggestions.
For god sake he did not ask for links to relevant threads, only for suggestions/ideas as to how best do these things!

Some random thoughts:
1. GPS is known to eat batterys for lunch. Whenever I have TomTom on I am in the car and it is on the car charger. To leave your GPS on all the time so that you can get what you are wanting with (tell me when I get close to something) is going to cost you in battery life. BUT - TomTom has the ability to warn you when you get near a dunkin donuts or starbucks - etc. All you need to do is put in TomTom the places where you want "warnings" and you should be able to have it tell you that you are near- now I am NOT smart enough to tell you how to make it send a message - not really sure that after thinking about it you would WANT an auto message - say you got into town late and had to leave early in the morning and it sent an auto message to meet you at the pub to your friends and they went and waited for you?
2. no signal notification - I get this in my bluetooth headset - it is really helpful when I am driving - there are places where i am not "covered" with signal that I never realized. Try getting a BT headset and you will see what I mean - not really sure that you want an audible on that though that everyone can hear do you? It would get OBNOXIOUS in meetings or inside buildings - enough so that you would have to turn off your phone.
3. recording phone calls - I have not seen anywhere that this is possible - you are able to record one side of the conversaiont but I am not aware of any software that will let you record BOTH sides - be aware that there may be legal issues on this depending on your country.
This may be a great place to start: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/cms/index.php?q=blogs/3/513
4. Data rate on radio control - there are some out there - you can use Kaiser Tweak I believe to limit this - however - if you get the right ROM (see my signature for mine) you can get great battery life and NOT have to tweak this item.
5. Bar code reader - yes - I actually saw on a thread somewhere that someone had done this - taken a picture of a bar code and then read it - seems awfully long winded way around the barn though - you probably ought to get a device that has a scanner on it if you are going to read a lot of bar codes - the camera on the Tilt is a little slow and then to run a program that "reads" the picture interpret it and return a value and then plug that value in to another program - you could have typed in the bar code easier. Factor in bad reads and having to take the picture again and you are going to get frustrated way sooner than satisfied.
This MAY be the place to start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1964222
The other things in your post I will have to leave to smarter people.

Hey,
The application herein allows you to quickly type in an event/appointment in plain (well, somewhat formatted) english. You can then save it to your calendar. That's pretty much all it does, but it's quick at it (or will be, one day), and if you shortcut-it, it's quicker to do than using the stylus (IMHO).
Examples of use:
Meet friends for breakfast tomorrow at 6:30AM-9:30AM
Buy flowers today at 6:30PM
Go home tomorrow at 18:30
Meeting with bankers tomorrow at 17:00-19:00
Bar-hopping today at 20-23
Celebrate New Year's Eve on 1/1/2009 at 6:45PM-9PM
Have breakup discussion with girlfriend today at 18 for 30 minutes
Disclaimers:
- Only English supported.
- Default time for meeting is 30 minutes
- No recurring meeting supported
- The formatting is <Event> [today/tomorrow/at <date>]
- Dates are locale-specific, so I gather you'll have to find out what's yours.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
PS: I really don't know if something like this already exists, so I've decided to write it myself just for the hell of it as an exercise.

excellent, thankyou! just what i need!
But i dont think it would take me that long to break it off with the girlfriend, but id best save that one as a template
It would be really great when some recurrent values could be preset.
Good to see that there's some interest. I whipped this up in a couple of hours and wanted to get a feel to whether there's a client-base.
I'm open for any requests, and would appreciate examples of how you would best be comfortable entering them (for instance, as above, recurrance).
Feel free to use sentences, as that's what I'll be trying to parse out

Combine this functionality with a speach recognition feature and it goes from being a nifty applet to a commercial application.
Great work!!!! just what I needed, I would make it so that when u dont write a date, it should be today...
I don't see how writing it out is any quicker than using other programs. A combination of radio buttons and/or one tap calendars seems to be quicker than writing out a date format. My 2 cents...
I agree that it really doesn't seem to save any time in its present format.
When most people enter a new appointment, they are already looking at their calendar. So, for example:
I'm looking through my calendar and I see I want to add an appointment on July 2, 2008 - I would need to switch to your program and type in July 2 for the appointment - rather than just clicking on the date I was already looking at.
DateBook 5/6 (Palm OS) had a wonderful feature whereas once you were on the date you would simply start typing numbers and that would be the time of the appointment - and it would assume am or pm based on your normal work hours. Further, if you wanted an all-day appointment, you would just start typing the subject matter and it would fill it in - no taps at all. I know this doesn't really resemble what you're working on, but this seems to me to be the absolute easiest way to input appts.
Alternatively, speech recognition combined with your program would be something I would pay for.
Thanks for sharing your program and keep up the good work.
Similar functionality is offered by cozi and google calendar. However, I do have to agree with a few it is a pain to type something on the pda. Much faster to tap.
Also, I own an XDA IIi and it cannot send or receive appointments as text messages. I know that this is possible on the nokia phones. I'd love this feature on the xda as well. Does anyone know of any application that can send and receive appointments as text messages?
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Name: Road Rage
This is my first App for Windows Phone 7 (or any system actually). It is a simple to use program to tell those other drivers what you think! This small and quick loading program presents you with 9 words to display on your screen in big bold letters. Sayings included:
Wait!
Move!
Jerk!
Idiot!
Blinker!
Faster!
Slower!
My Bad!
Sorry!
The other advantage is they all have a 'mirror' mode, so other drivers can read the messages in their rear view mirrors! This was harder to do then just write the characters of the message backwards!
Takes advantage of the users selected theme as well. It is also very small and takes up little storage space. Screenshots of main screen and one of the mirror messages is attached below.
*download*
It is available for free, ad supported, on the Windows Phone 7 Market Place. Either search for 'Road Rage' on the Marketplace or click the following link (should launch Zune software): Get 'Road Rage'
*download*
I originally had a few more harsh words in the program, but it was rejected by Microsoft for excessive use of adult language. It took several tries to get it approved. I originally had the words "ASS" and "****er" and was rejected, so I tried to go all Battlestar Galactica and substitute "Fracker!", but it was still rejected. So I then removed them and went with "Jerk!" and "Idiot!". I also predict that this program will be emulated/copied onto the iPhone and Android system by somebody else fairly soon, but I did it first!
If there is enough demand I will update the program to allow users to create their own messages and save them to the menu for quick easy selection, to by-pass Microsofts explicit language policy.
*WARNING* Operating a portable electronic device while driving is dangerous and is probably illegal in your area, and probably pretty stupid too. Use at your own risk!
Nice app but my road rage includes much harsher words and phrases 0
Hmm... Have you ever tried a finger? Much more effective and no ads at all LOL
P.S. BTW, do you really think that someone is able to see a handset's screen at the rear-view mirror??? ;-/

Yes, they are, we tested it. That is why the messages are short, so they can take the full screen. The text will be larger then US license plate lettering on any screen bigger then 3.5 inches. And it has more contrast then most license plate color combination's, so it should be no problem at all for most people and a decent distance away.
maybe you can made a small area where we can type a word(short to respect te full screen)
You must make an Android version
What if you have tinted windows ? Also, holding UP the phone like that while driving is kind of dangerous. The effort versus affect isn't worth the trouble. Try that in parts of California and you'll be wearing your WP7 up your arse, get shot at, or laughed at such a feeble minded display of cowardice. Better to be a defensive driver to avoid an accident.
I don't see anything that comes in handy! Nice effort mate but i still prefer my mouth and my finger.. it's much faster than Unlock your phone, open app and show it to the driver!
still, niceeee XD
I would pay a dollar to show my own text in this program
hey so I moved this thread to Testing. kthanksbye.
Hi,
We make Contactive(it's an app)(just to make sure we're on the same page here). It's guaranteed to (insert sips ref here) rustle your jimmies.
We've received some great feedback lately and we're hungry like a wolf for moar. That's where you come in:fingers-crossed:. Fill our suggestion box full of stuff. Types of feedback that we like to munch on:
- all positive comments
- A bunch of five stars pls
- words that want to make us cry
- And I'm legally binded to ask for some constructive criticism. Not too much though. Our dev's get angry pretty easily(please do not tweet to contactive that i said that).
Also too our lead dev is single(lololololol) he like's to go on very brief walks on the beach, he gets tired very easily, and his fave movie is the about the ring.
I guess I should say something about the app now. Um, well it makes your phone ring, or vibrate, when you get a call. It tells you if a celebrity is calling you like Dr. Dre or if its your mailman, or if its just your mum.
But wait there's more:highfive:, if your mom's on twitter, and let's face it there's like a 99% chance she is, it will show you her latest tweet before you pick up her call... you'll be prepared. Also too it'll import all of your friends from Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin(if you have a job), and Gmail to your phone's address book. It identifies unknown callers too by crawling over the inter-webs for all public information connected to that number(ie. location, name,a picture if available, and some other stuff I cant remember.
Seriously though View attachment 2043019.
