HTC car holder CU - S400 - worst buy ever - HD2 Accessories

Hello,
Topic may be a bit miselading - it's not abut the holder itself, looks fine and works well. It's about the software that freaks me out.
WM forces me to use the NaviPanel, which is quite okay, as long as you use your HD2 as a phone. Well, if I wanted just a phone, I would not buy a WM device, would I...
Of course, I have a choice: I can tell WM not to launch NaviPanel when in the holder, but then:
- home button does not work (it doesn't work anyway, whether NP is launched or not)
- home screen is not rotated, but other screens are - it doesn't matter whether you're holding the phone in portrait or landscape, they just are rotated. So, If you keep it in portrait on home screen, and a call comes in, it's rotated to landscape, so you have to tilt either your head or the holder. If you somehow manage to get back to home screen (remember, home button doesn't work), you have to rotate the holder again.
- While rotating, but not only, a clipboard menu pops up (copy, select all etc.) even on home screen and messes up the display, you have to tap to get rid of it.
- When a rotated landscape 'make a call' screen appears, you cannot go into contacts. You just cant. You have to get it out of the cradle so that a normal screen appears.
And so on and so forth... I'm using a stock 1.66 ROM. I will try it with some cooked ROMs, but that's just wrong.
My advice, if you're not after the looks, buy yourself a good ole passive or active brodit holder - it simply works and does not mess with the WM.

Please, can you post photos of the kit?

This is NOT a problem with the OS, rather how HTC have programmed the Navipanel software and their Sense home screen. Default WM can perform all the functions you mentioned, blame HTC for putting eye candy before functionality.

A little disappointed with the Navipanel myself. I was expecting to see nice driver friendly buttons to use simple things like the music player. Instead I have several buttons to turn on the sat nav and one to use the phone.
Only had a quick play with it so I maybe missing something, but hopefully HTC will update it or or some talented chappie or chapess here will work there magic.

Resuming application with Power On

Probably a simple question but I use a GPS Golf program on my ATT Tilt. Between shots the power goes off on the Tilt and when I turn it back on the the main power button it goes to the home screen instead of resuming the application. It is driving me nuts. I suppose this is how it is supposed to work but is there a way so to have it resume where you left off in an application when you turn on the tilt with the power button?
Thanks

Try to disable the "Today Timeout" option in the the Today settings!!
Ciao
I have been playing around with the power setting so it doesn't go off so quickly, but there are still times I need it to resume where I left off on the phone when I use the power button. Seems odd that there doesn't seem to be a choice to just resume when powered on and not just go to the home screen... Any other ideas?
If you don't mind sharing...what is the name of this GPS Golf software? Thanks!!
Not at all. It is truly a great application that incorporates keeping score for all players in your group, side bets, GPS and shot tracking. It also has a desktop software to sync with. The name is it is Intelligolf. You can learn all about it at their website at http://intelligolf.com .
What really sold me on the tilt was the GPS. I purchased the Garmin XT software so my Tilt is my Garmin GPS for my car and is also my GPS golf device as well. Intelligolf offers course downloads for free. If the course you play is not listed you have to mark the points yourself which is very easy or you can do it via Googlemaps.
Very cool.
Darin
I was hoping it would give a picture of the hole. We have a golf course here with GPS in the carts, and it gives you pictures of the holes so you know exactly where everything is.
Unfortunately it does not. This one shows you the distance from where you are to all the points marked such as front-middle-back of green, sand traps and other hazards, etc... I at first wanted to see the actual layout of the course as well then saw the cost is very high on those kind of units. You have to purchase the unit and most of them charge to download each course (seems like some were $19.95 per course). Depending on how accurately you have marked the courses you play, it works just as well IMHO. I do love knowing exact yardage and the tilt seems to do this very well and locks in fairly quickly most of the time.
Darin
Well, I found a solution to my problem. I have SPB shell 2.0 on my tilt and in it there is an option for when you turn the power on. You can have it open to the now screen or not... I don't think there is an option in the default today screen for this..

Kaiser problems

Hello!
I have came across 2 annoying problems - maybe somebody can help with them.
1) Pressing IE key + action (dpad center key) invokes screen alignment application. I'm using S2U2 and can't find a way to prevent this shortcut from working when phone is locked by S2U2. Because of that screen alignment is accidentally launched often enough to become major annoyance.
Is there any way to fix it? Like disabling screen alignment shortcut, configuring S2U2 to lock hardware keys or in the worst case fully disabling IE key ?
2) The second problem - sometimes i find my kaiser switched to landscape mode. It has happened only when i'm reaching for phone in pocket to answer a call - so it's possible i've accidentally pressed some keys or something. It happened also after i disabled autoswitching to landscape mode after sliding it open.
Of course after it has switched to landscape mode it switches back to portrait, and during this time (which can take few secs and is annoying) i cannot answer the call.
For #1 - stop pressing the IE and Action key at the same time. Pretty simple fix.
For #2 - I don't really have a good answer for you. I would have suspected you were opening the keyboard slightly when pulling it from your pocket, but that wouldn't matter if you disabled the function. So, can't say for sure... are you running 3rd party apps, different ROM, etc.?

What you are describing as annoying are conveniences to those of us who don't carry our phones in our pockets. No, HTC does not make double commands for every function, one to make the phone easier to use and one to disable all the " easy " functions for those who insist on carrying around a $500 phone like it was a pack of 25 cent gum.
A little preachy? Good!
Ask the other members here if this sounds familiar: "Cheap f**king phone, screen cracked first week I had it, I took it out of my pocket one day.........." My touch screen no longer works, I took it out of my pocket one day............"
50% of all the bad things that happen to people's phones around here start with. "When I took the phone out of my pocket........"
Want your phone to continue to work great? Make believe it is an expensive piece of electronics. Take f**king care of it
P.S. Ooh big step down off the soap box

I'm not so sure, maybe some people are just careless fools.
I've had my Kaiser for a few months and a Wizard before than for 18 months. Both have been kept in my pocket pretty much constantly and have never had anything more than the slightest of scratches on the casings.
Then again, i'm not stupid enough to keep my phone in the same pocket as coins, keys or other myriad sharp things...

Where as a lot of other people unfortunately are
Well, to give you a tip about question #2 if you are going to carry it in the beltcase that came with the phone. If you are not careful pusing the phone up of the case you might just push the keyboard part and it doesn´t take much to trigger landscape mode. By now I get the phone up without this happening but it took some getting used to.
And I would not advise carrying the phone in your pants front pocket. A friend of mine cracked the screen of his brand new N95 this way, tight designer jeans pocket in this case = dead expensive phone.

And what should i do ? Keep it home on the shelf ? A phone is meant to use it. I've found that the screen is hard to clean because of the higher edges. What would be your solution - don't touch it ? The phone is slow when switching to landscape and back - don't use landscape mode ? If something is wrong - it's my fault for trying to use it ?
*rant off*
Actually i was not correct (blame my english) - i'm carrying it in a waist case, not pocket. And from what i've gathered - the magnetic lock could be the reason of switching to landscape mode. I've read something about magnetic locks triggering the slideout sensor.
But my collegue said he disabled autoswitching to landscape mode and was still experiencing this problem (have to doublecheck it though).
As for first case (screen align shortcut) - can't help. I often accidentally press them when taking out of case. Tried to install AEBPlus and remap some buttons, but that didn't help. It actually suprises me why HTC choosed so easily pressed button combination.
A solution would be to stop using S2U2, as the default device lock correctly locks the keypad and this shortcut dosesn't work. It would be pity though, as i came to like S2U2.

Upgrade to TD2

I am currently using Touch Cruise. Would it be a serious upgrade to TD2? I am very much concerned about the lack of D-pad. Even with the D-pad the use of cruise is difficult. Is the screen improved?
From some reviews I read that the screen is so large and finger friendly that it negates the use of a D-Pad.
You should go for it. I upgraded from a Touch Cruise and the D2 is a far superior phone. It is far more responsive than the laggy Cruise and the screen is very high definition - almost excessively. You can read web pages even when zoomed out if your eyes are good enough.
I still reach for the dpad sometimes out of habit but I don't really miss it. Everything is do-able without, you just need to get used to it.
The D2 didn't feel much smaller than the cruise when I first upgraded but now when I look at my old cruise it looks fat and bloated and the screen pixels looks very blocky.
I do miss the rubbery feel though of the cruise since the D2 is very slippery.
If you use programmable buttons much you will be disappointed with the D2's single button compared to about 5 on the cruise. Although there are free solutions to this available.
Honestly, there's no comparison! The UI is instantaneous with everything you do. Press a number on the dial pad and it instantly registers. Press call end and the call is GONE! No waiting 2-3 seconds anymore. When you slide your finger in the photo album to swipe to the next picture the photo moves WITH your finger. With the TC you made the swipe and then waited for the next picture to appear.
These are just the benefits I can think of now.
I'm coming from a cruise too, and just loving my D2! The UI is indeed perfect. I was affraid of the accessability of some functions, when not having a D-pad, but it's just no problem in everyday use.
All daily windows menus have been replaced by larger ones, easily clickable with your finger. That includes the menus that are used in third-party programs. I was affraid about having to do a lot of actions to block the phone, when putting it in my pocket. But actually you just press and hold the end-button to block the device very quickly. There are big improvements like for instance the great TF3D, but also small ones. For instance, the D2 displays a small bluetooth icon in the taskbar, when BT is on. It even shows a different icon when the device is connected to a headset or carkit. On my cruise I always wondered about BT-status. The start menu is replaced by a bigger icon one. That one is adjustable, you can place 24 of your favorite apps there, 15 off them fit in the screen directly, for more you have to scroll. The other apps are accessable when you hit 'all'. Then the whole start menu appears, but again: larger. The TF3D home screen shows the next 3 appointments, whereas TF2D versions for the cruise always showed only 1. The TF3D calendar doesn't fit my needs though, so I'm still looking for a replacement.
On my cruise I was using a tiny program called taskswitch, which I assigned to a hardware button, to switch between applications. I use that when driving. I'll typically have at least two apps open (navigation software and Opera for live traffic information) and want to switch between them easily while keeping my attention on the road. The lack of buttons prevents that solution now, but there is a better one: AE button plus. I assigned the built-in task manager to the hardware back button and that works great! Then I assigned the function "OK/enter" to the same button, but when pressing and holding it. Now it all works fantastically.
On my cruise I have tried several ROM's. No one was perfect at all. Opera would crash often, the Youtube apps I tried would be slow and crash often. I was using the stylus all day. The Topaz isn't just better IMO, it's a whole new era.
Just one addition: a downside is the poorer radio reception. Radio reception for GSM and wifi is worse than the cruise. I'm hoping it will improve at some time with a radio ROM update. It's not bad, but it's not as good as the cruise.

just got my Acer F900 !

before i got my Acer F900, i dont like it that much since it' the bigger size then HTC HD or iphone. but after i got the phone, i dont notice that much different in size. haha
there is no d-pad on the phone, u press the volume + and - to go up and down. i still havnt figure out how to go left or right yet.
there is a green led blinking when the phone is on which i like, that u dont see that often on htc phones anymore? haha
i believer Acer tweaks (software) is better then HTC!
their task manger show how many Free Ram is avail, i guess you need it since phone only got 128ram. but i havnt encounter any problems with only 128ram.
their flash rom is kinda low, only 256meg, i always run out of storage if i want to install everything to internal storage (i never have this problem with Sony X1, or diamond, or fuses) but you can install most programs to microSD.
when phone is "device locked" on today screen, you press screen to wake up to check clock, phone goes back to sleep in 5 seconds (which is nice) to save battery.
on phone dialer, there is a "blacklight off" option for 5, 10, 15, 30 seconds, never. on my sony X1 with custom rom, phone dialer stay ON forever unless i press "power" to turn off blacklight.
PRO: big screen 3.8" WVGA 800x480!
ATT 850 and 1900mzh 3G !!
thin compares to phones with qwerty keboard (f900 got no keyboard)
CON: i dont like the action/enter button on top right corner (near volume buttons), i have to reach all the way up there if i want to press enter! i perfer it at buttom of screen like other phones!
no 3.5mm jack.
not sexy! just look like any other phones, my silver sony X1 is sexy! haha
conclusion: get this phone if you want big screen (3.8" WVGA) and USA 850/1900 3G! other phones with big screen only have 1900 3G, not 850.
if you a sexy phone, get silver sony x1!, but with smaller 3.0" WVGA screen.
sounds good..what CPU / mhz is on board?
also, does it feel fast or lagging?
Samsung 533mzh, currently all htc phones is at 528mzh.
good thing Acer put their rom on website already.
just did a reflash rom, screen is not responding after installed some programs.
try to do a hardreset, manual said power + reset, then action button.
where the [email protected]#$ is "action" button? i dont see no "action button", tried all other button, it not working. so i reflash the rom.
A couple of problems with my Acer F900... Other people?
I got my Acer F900 just yesterday from Expansys. I'm happy to report that the phone works very well on the US AT&T UMTS network.
I'm less happy to report a couple of very annoying problems:
1) When the device is powered off (with the button on its left side), it can't be turned back on. Actually, the power seems to come back since I can see the power LED start to blink but the screen is never re-activated. The only way I've found to re-activate the screen is to reset the device.
2) A minor problem is the Comm Setup Wizard's database lists old settings for AT&T's network. I can enter the information manually. Much more important is that every time I reset the device (quite often because of problem #1), the phone forgets the connection settings and I have to re-enter them.
I suspect that the problem behind #2 is a startup program in the registry that doesn't get cleared out. There are several start up programs listed (according to MemMaid) and I'm hesistant to just stop them all without some guidance.
I'm running ROM 1.02, the latest according to Acer's site. I haven't tried reflashing the ROM because that's kind of a pain and it seems to be the same version.
As for #1, I have no idea what the problem is. Has anyone run across something similar?
Also, does anyone know of forums specifically for the Acer F900? I realize that this is off-topic for xda.
Thanks!
Mark
#1: setting -> system -> backlight -> backlight level, make sure
auto-adjust backlight by battery level
and
auto adjust backlight by idle time ARE CHECKED.
2. setting -> connections ->connections -> advanced -> select networks, make sure both box says "MY ISP", then press ok
Well, half of the problem is fixed. The phone no longer loses the AT&T data settings every time I reset, but I still need to reset every time the phone turns off.
Thanks for the backlight level but it doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm convinced the problem isn't a screen brightness issue. When the phone is off, it doesn't receive text messages or phone calls. Any idea what the problem might be? Do you think it could be a hardware problem?

the F900 has some + & - keys on the side, do they move the selection (eg. in a menu, scroll up/down in the browser etc.) or do they just change the volume?

yes, the + and - button move up and down (scroll up/down, phone volume).
when in browser, it moves 1 line at a time, maybe there is a registry setting to make it move 1 page at a time.
but there is no button to move left or right.

Up / down is enough for me, at the moment I'm using a winmobphone with keyboard, dpad and scroll wheel, and I just need the scroll/up down feature, so it's Ok to lose some weight
Btw: at least the opera browser can be configured to scroll one page at a time

Hi, if you like to hear some anwers from me:
No, it doesn't feel big to me, my previous phone with keyboard was much thicker, but I don't need the keyboard, so I bought one with out.
I paid over 400€ for it, I'm sure it's quite cheaper now, but wouldn't buy it anymore, there are much cooler phone out now, like the acer neotouch or the htc touch hd2.

Interception of Home Button

When I am using Android Auto I noticed it intercepts the home launcher, and prevents me from navigating away (unless I try and go through notifications, but that adds a separate step). Anyone got a fix for that? Xposed module or the like?
It does that because you're not supposed to use your phone while driving. So, basically done by design.
It doesn't take into account the possibility that a passenger might want to use the phone.
Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
Press the task button, the left one on samsungs for instance, and then the home button.
I am wondering if this same trick will be possible on soft button phones like the s8 or Nexus line?
For me, I was going to use Tasker and various plugins to bypass this. I downloaded AutoInput and Secure Settings, and ran them. Didn't actually make any modifications. Then the next time I was in Android Auto and I hit the home button on my s7e, I was asked to pick an app to complete the action. I was given Tasker and Android Auto to choose from. Clicked Tasker and bam! Now it works just like normal. I can have Spotify on my phone and navigation on the dash. It's also handy for illegal-while-driving tasks. However I still say that a little sense goes a long way. Knock on wood but I've never even come close to a fender bender from tech in the car. I've had full blown windows PCs installed with touch screen dash boards... I've had laptop mounts like the cops have. I've got a Nexus u mounted in one car. Hundreds of thousands of miles of 'distracted' driving, and not even a close call.
There's a slider between Attention vs Distraction. You should obviously lean towards giving attention to the driving task when conditions call for it. Same goes for eating a burger, chatting on the phone, smacking your kids around, or checking out the hottie wearing a belt as a skirt walking down the road.
Tech while driving shouldn't be illegal...Being a **** driver should be.
So the s8 soft buttons remove the recents key. Neato. You have to use a Bixby app to remap and do the aforementioned trick.
Hi;
since i have moved from android 4.12 to android 5.1.1 i have the "frozen Home Button" problem, too.
Is there meanwhile a solution for this isse? Is there a patch available to solve this problem?
In my case i don't use AnroidAuto, and i don't want to install it !!!
But when i want to use my own choice of driving apps ... i can't because when i plug my Samsung S2 into the car dock, the home Button freezes, and most times when i push it, the phone system freezes on a black site.
This is very annoying and surely not a save system behaviour while driving.
It seems like Google wants to force me to use AndroidAuto. BUT I DON'T WANT !!!
What can i do to bring back the normal HomeButton functionallity when my phone is plugged into the car dock??
Thanx for infos ...
