Running Myn's build from SD Card and 2 EXT2 partitions.
I cannot play any sounds.
Music:
When I attempt to play music via any music player, I see the marker advancing but no sound comes out. While the music is playing, I am moving the volume level up and down. I do see the volume indicator in the middle moving higher and still no sound.
Ring Tones:
My phone now vibrates, but does not ring.
I attempted to change the ringer to another ringer. When I select the new ring tone, it freezes the screen (as though it cannot find it or play it) and eventually I get the message "Activity Android System (in process system) is not responding". Button options are: "Force Close" or "Wait". Eventually, will get an "Android" boot. It does not go all the way back to the Linix reboot Penguin screen.
Things I have already tried:
- Reinstalled the System
- Cleared dalvic cache
- Wiped data and reinstalled from back up
Any ideas?
Thanks
Your speaker probably went out. You can verify it's not android by flashing a win-mo rom.

if his speaker went out i don't think that the process would crash when he went into settings, try wiping and playing something from a fresh install, don't restore backup
When I reboot, I do hear the WinMo start up sound, do my speaker is working.
So, now I will do a fresh install and start fresh with a new data (no data restore).
Just wish there was an easier way to restore all my home settings and installed apps... Other than having to reinstall all from Market and place on my 5 screens.
Thank you for your ideas!
Research:
- Fresh install and wiped data. Results = Ring Tones and music work again.
- Then just out of curiosity, reloaded the databackup.img file. Results = No more ring tone sounds again.
Conclusion:
My data file somehow got corrupted. Not sure how.
Actually, this is not bad...
I've not had to rebuild my envirionment/dataimage in weeks!
I do really still LOVE using Android. So much better than WinMo! ! !

I did manual updates all through the Froyo pre-release process, and now I am seeing these bugs that others apparently see fixed with FRF91:
- WiFi disconnects from my home router randomly (was fixed in FRF83, broken again now for me in FRF91)
- Car Dock nightmares - it keeps forgetting the speakerphone settings, touchscreen unresponsive until off/on action, randomly uses N1 speaker instead of dock speaker for navigation directions
- Vibrate 2-step volume down option lost (this may be a feature but still I hope not)
Is there a SIMPLE way for me to just 'reinstall' or 'repair' the OTA FRF85B, much like you can reinstall Windows over the top of itself without losing all your settings?
Key: I don't want to lose my apps and settings at all!
If you're rooted you could use titanium backup and flash an earlier build.
If not, you probably would have to use a PASSIMG then update to 85B - but you'd lose your settings. The market sync will give you all your apps back once you sign in though.

Thanks. Is it actually possible to have a botched install of FRF91, leading to the above possible issues, or would my Froyo update either 'work properly' or 'not at all'?
Just don't want to go through all the trouble of reinstalling from a clean factory build for no reason.
And if it is possible, can you clarify how Titanium Backup will help me? Will it provide a simple way to just 'install 2.1' in a few clicks?
not sure what you mean about the vibrating deal, but on my phone when i press down volume, it never shows a silent icon, the lowest i can get is the "vibrate" icon, its still silent but it reads like its on vibrate. I cant remember if this started at the initial unofficial froyo or one of the later versions. Does anyone else experience this, or maybe its supposed to be this way? i can live with it (not important enough to start a whole thread), its just annoying...
Well for some ridiculous reason Google removed the lovely 2-step vibrate option (where you would press volume down once for vibrate and again for silent), and changed the Sound settings area so that you can now only choose whether the phone vibrates in silent mode or doesn't vibrate in silent mode.
I loved this feature before. The iPhone had to have a dedicated switch for this, but Google solved it with ingenuity. Now in their infinite stupidity, they removed it completely. Doh.
Hello XDA Members,
I have an odd issue on my hands.
Description:
I get a call, from either a landline or cellphone, the ringtone plays just fine. After I end the call, the ringtone then plays again on its own. There is no way to silence it or get rid of it. The phone is fully responsive, I can open apps, and use it normally aside from my ringtone playing in the background until it reaches the end of the song.
My question to you guys, has anyone ever experienced this, and if so how did you resolve it?
NOTES:
Running stock AT&T ROM with the latest update and Voodoo lagfix. Never flashed any other ROM's.
My wife is using the impression and sometimes her text message notification does the same thing, plays after reading text restart fixes for a while but it always comes back, I havent seen this on my captivate or read of it happening to any others. maybe a master clear?
I too have had it happen with text message notifications, I am using Handcent.
I'm thinking a master clear may resolve the issue because it seems software related, but I was hoping to do it without clearing things out. I was thinking some app, out of the hundred or so installed may have something to do with it.
If doing a master clear is the only resolution, I might as well just flash a new ROM, I already have everything I possibly could back up all backed up.
I have resolved this issue without a factory reset or flashing another ROM.
I was playing around with where the ringtone MP3 file was located and I had moved it into the phones internal storage. I moved it back out onto the root of the SD card and all seems to be ok. I cannot believe I didn't think to remove or move the file that was getting played after a call.
I've been running cm7 since build 57, all UI sounds were playable then. Since I usually keep my phone on silent, I can't say for certain when exactly my UI sounds stopped working, but it was probably around #65. Anyway, the sounds on the dialer work, however the screen lock/unlock, and all keypress sounds are gone. I've checked the system folder, the files are there in system/media/audio/ui and in the .ogg format. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
For the record, I've made sure the sound settings have audible touch and screen lock/unlock sounds checked, and I've flashed at least 3 times since the problem started. Ran 'fix permissions' as well, to no avail.

The same thing has happened to me, since #77. I only noticed it as missing notification sounds. I think I've disabled all other UI sound effects. I read on an forum after searching for this issue that someone fixed it by doing a factory reset and flashing the latest firmware again. I'm not quite there yet where I'll want to restore everything again..
I tried a factory reset this evening and flashed #84 but still no notification sounds unfortunately. Bizarre.
Hi,
same problem here, are you using voodoo sound?
MfG
Have you tried going into settings/cm settings/sounds and had a play with the settings in there?

Yes, but there is no sound for lock/unlock the phone.
I did the same last night with no change, but this morning I fired up the Google Plus app and my phone buzzed and played the notification sound! I didn't change anything!
Vibrations are turned off in the system settings but when I get a text message the notification causes a vibration anyway.
Argh, tested again and notification sounds are turned off again. Bah.
I had Voodoo Sound installed but I haven't installed it since I did a factory reset last night.
hmmm ok, after flashing nightly 84 and google apps, all sounds work well.
But after flashing fugu kernel the sounds of lock/unlock dont work.
Eighter reboot or kernel would be the solution, didnt test it yet.
MfG
ok for me i have found the mistake...
i always delete /system/media because edit hosts file with addfree dosnt work...
and create /media path on sdcard...
now, after flashing newer nightly it is not necessary to delete media in /system
all sounds work after reboot or flashing fugu kernel
MfG
This is extremely odd. Yesterday and today the notification sounds worked, but only in the morning. Come the afternoon the sounds (and vibration) stopped working. Very, very weird.
Try this:
Go into Settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Sound.
Uncheck "Notification Focus", "Silent State" and "Vibrate during calls" and also set and unset Quiet Hours.
I did all of the above and notification sounds came back. Will keep you posted on what happens next.
Still working a few days later. My guess is that the database of settings got corrupted somehow and by changing the settings above I was able to fix them. Phew!
It doesn't explain why the notifications worked in the morning and then broke later in the day though. I'm just glad they're working at all now.
Hello there, I have a frustration with my Nexus 6 running 6.0.1
While there is similar probs around, none seem to explain mine.
When using Google Music on Bluetooth/Headset I get normal operation and then randomly (sometimes immediately, sometimes up to about 5 minutes) the volume drops down. The Volume slider still shows 100% volume.
I thought at first it was the ear-saftey thing we used to have where it does this, but then allows you to change it back to full volume. But I didn't get any message around that or cannot find a way to override it.
Then I thought it was another system process stealing focus and the phone getting confused, eg dropping volume for a notification and then just not returning it.
Tried rotating phone to see if it was a portrait/landscape bug
Everytime. I restart the phone, it's fine again before the random volume drop occurs 1 sec-5 mins after playing a song. Once it does it, it gets stuck that way.
I've lived with it for a long time but it's doing my head in now so hopefully someone can help it advise?
Not even sure if a factory reset will fix.
Cheers

I've had the same problem, running N developer preview 1 listening with wired headphones. I've learned that I just kind of have to wait for it to pass, try force stopping play music, or restart the phone.
Are you streaming your music, or is it downloaded onto your device? I manually copy music onto my phone from my computer, and this is when I've got the issue, as I stream with Spotify fairly often and never have the problem. I've always thought it was just some bug reading all of these crazy 3rd party audio files in the storage.
Hasn't been much of a problem for me... Just jumped at the opportunity to share when I saw this thread. If it bothers you that much, try a full wipe of internal storage and reinstall everything. Cheers! Hope I helped.
This might be the app itself but I didn't have any issue on my S20. Since I updated the phone it randomly cuts out. Any ideas? Never on WiFi though...

Is it when the screen is off? Check it's not been put to sleep in battery settings
it seems that latest ROM updates (I think I have this on all AUB* ones) is weirdly strict on background activities and cuts every one of them. my whole device acts strangely - apps not showing notification or showing them late (hours later than they were supposed to show), my apps are not updating: I have to repeatedly FC play store, then clear its cache so that currently installing app changes state from downloading to installing, than do it again to change state fomr installing to installed etc. worked fine on AUA* ones. it is really annoying. btw I tried to clear cache and dalvik/art cache from recovery, but that did not help. I have not tried factory seset yet...
It seems that it was data corruption during regular OTA. Factory reset seems to fix problems for me.
I'll try a reset.. thankyou
Let's be honest, the Spotify app has issues too begin with. On my S21 and Pixel 4 it can be playing songs to my earbuds then suddenly stop running in the background on its own! Unlock the phone and itis still open in the foreground.
Perhaps it's time for a new music app if this is a known Spotify issue... But if it's not a Spotify issue, then check in your battery settings (as others have mentioned) to see if your phone automatically started putting it into "Sleep Mode".
