I have 2 G1's and I think it's the best phone ever
But I have to sell 1, so I put it online and tonight a person will come and buy it.
Problem is: I need to unroot it, and restore to the original Firmware.
How can I do this?
Also, before I downloaded and applied a newer radio version. Do I need to revert to a certain radio version that came with the original G1?? Or does it not matter?
I never changed the SPL or something, only rooted (goldcard method)+enomther Rom.
Please tell me which files I need, I will be extremely grateful!
My proposed method is: download an original, unrooted G1 firmware, and apply that through the recovery menu. Also Format the memory card, do a complete wipe and factory restore and afterwards; reboot again.
will that be sufficient?
I cannot have the person returning the phone because it is crashing like a motherf-...
Those steps should work just fine.
The phone will probably still have root, but if the customer doesn't need it, they'll never notice.
Lol. Man. Through Recovery? That should work just fine?

There, man. I helped you get up, and I trust you can walk by yourself.
Oh, no you're not going to do this through recovery and no you won't have root anymore.
well mate i got a UK t-mobile G1 and this method work for me like every time....
1st download the original rc7 for uk model and rc29 for usa model..
then go there and manually update ur G1

It did not work as planned, obviously.
You need a goldcard even to unroot it, else it will not let you flash back the original.
But anyway, I flashed back enomthers' the official rom, without any add-on pack. Worked perfectly except for missing dutch onscreen keyboard word-completion/dictionary. But yeah, the person said he did not need that.
I told him I can flash the original back if he wanted to.
Anyway, sold it for 135 euro. Got it originally for 100 euros

Hello everyone, my HTC DREAM touch screen just died on me today meaning it doesn't detect me. I tried battery pull and soft/hard reset and even wipe. I plan on bringing it back to rogers for a replacement or repair but I gotta revert this back to stock. My Phone is rooted and is rogers its also running cyanogen. How I unroot and install the factory firmware, i have looked through google and here and i may missed some or didn't see any results that reflected what I was looking for.
You obviously did not search Google correctly.
Al you'll really need is to find the DREAIMG.nbh file for RC29, and use fastboot to flash it over. That should take you to 1.0, I believe. You may need to find an official OTA update for Cupcake to flash as well, you may not.

Just getting it back to 1.0 is fine. All the OP would have to say is he never wanted to get the updates.
Here is the factory cupcake build you can use. http://androidoverdrive.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=85
So if I unrooted using the DREAIMG.nbh procedure 48 hours ago, how long do I have to wait for the OTA upgrade to bring me current? Is there anything I can do to hurry it along? For example, will it not come through if certain apps are being used, etc? Or do I just ... wait longer?
ummm, Rogers doesn't have OTA updates. Just get the e911 update thing from rogers and run that. It will unroot you and put you to the latest rom.
FYI you can now say good bye to root as the new phone that you get from rogers will not allow root.
I feel for you as I am in the same stupid F'N sinking boat. F Rogers.

I will not scold you for not reading enough or reading correctly. I have been reading this site, others, and searching for 3 months to get to the point where I am now. There are thousands of posts and it is often difficult to piece it all together and sort the wheat from the chaff.
I can offer what I have found.

I thought this post might be helpful since it offers a stock rogers rom, but it says 32A, so I don't konw if that will work with the Dream.

This seems cool, but i can't find an md5sum for it, so there seems to be no way to verify the download. It would be a shame to brick the phone with a bad download.
I wonder if anyone has used it successfully and has a checksum?
Maybe [email protected] could help us?
3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654
has this:
"
Regardless, heres the original radio (3.22.20.17) and the original recovery (WARNING: UNROOTED) from rogers dream:
http://www.stevebirstok.com/android/losemyroot.zip
"
but again, I cannot find and md5sum for the file, so I am a bit hesitant to use it if a brick could result.
I think suggestion #2 would be great if there was a checksum for the file.
I would keep a copy of it handy as well if I could verify it.

Ok so I got my hero about a month ago and upgraded to 2.1 last week. Terrible decision...wish I could take it back...but I hear that if you root your phone and use a custom ROM you can actually have a pretty decent experience with your phone using 2.1 I can't even list how many problems and how slow 2.1 is.
I do not know a lot at all about rooting a phone, I never have before, and the tutorials on unlocker seem to be out-dated with the 1.5 software so nothing is working for me. I have the ADP setup on my computer, I'm just wondering what's the easiest and most up to date way to root my Sprint HTC Hero so I can use a custom ROM. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
**If your software/build number (2.27.651.X) ends in 6, you must download and run this RUU first to be able to use the root exploit on your phone. If it ends in .5, skip this and click the link in the next sentence.**
Try this and if you follow it correctly, you'll be able to root your phone and be able to nandroid, and flash custom roms and what not.
Final note, all of the user data/settings on your phone will be reset, so it will be like having a brand new phone out of the box. Just an FYI.
Thank you I have successfully rooted my phone...but I'm having trouble connecting to the internet now. I cannot receive any weather data and have no internet connection at all.
I"m having the same problem, even after I set back to factory default. Not sure what I did wrong.

What problem(s) are you having in particular? Not being able to root?
Hey guys, I have an old rooted G1 (FW 1.6, CM Mod 4.2.11.1) and I need to get it back to Vanilla like today in order to sell it to my friend tomorrow before he buys from someone else. I use my N1 now and it's not rooted so I forgot how to do things on my G1 and stuff, mod-wise. So can anyone point me in the right direction as to how to get my G1 back to normal? I also want to wipe it so none of my information and stuff remains, just as if it were brand new.
Thanks!

good luck, most people on this forum are [MOD EDIT]

I've never done it, but I would guess you would need a stock rom.
Try this link, and maybe the unlockr.com
http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Unroot
Be sure to read the comments because some people had problems. It's a bit ominous that there is a link to unbrick your phone.

You can flash the dreamimg.nbh to the g1 to bring it back on to stock and it will remove every setting on it. It will be like a new phone from factory. It will be on Android 1.1, but the OTA will hit soon to upgrade it to 1.6.
Here is the thread..Unroot Phone
DO NOT write any stupid NBH files.
Ensure that the SPL is version 1.33.2003 and the RADIO is version 2.22.23.02.
If not, write them using FASTBOOT. If the current SPL is a 0.95 version, first write the 1.33.2003 SPL via RECOVERY, then fastboot flash the radio.
Next: Go to developer.htc.com/adp.html and download the recovery image. Write it from recovery.
Wipe userdata and cache.
This will leave the phone is a STOCK/OEM condition with root available to ADVANCED users, and with a full proper engineering bootloader which will only be noticed by advanced users. No sense being a jackass and locking the thing out from the buyer.
Thanks guys.
What do you mean by "do not write any NBH" files. Will the link that G1Sanju posted work lbcoder? I remember back then we would have flash the old .nbh and make sure the Radio (and SPL?) were the same? And what exactly do you mean by write?

Hey, Thanks man...I never thought of this one....Ya this will also achieve the purpose, We flashed this recovery for CM4...but there were some issues regarding T-mobile specific applications as the model number was for dev phone rather then T-Mobile G1, I don't know how its right now..
Hmm, so what shall I do then?
Btw, the spacebar on the keyboard only works like half the time. I don't even know why.. so entering commands in the Terminal or whatever would be kind of difficult. Would I need to do that? haha
Hi all,
I have flashed my phone a few times (actually only once to perception, and then recently back to stock before then flashing stock rogers 2.2 - as I didn't have internet at the time to use kies, even though I am US based). I am currently traveling around Europe, and will be heading to the UK soon from Sep-Dec. As such I would like to unlock the phone and use an Orange or Vodafone pay as you go sim.
Unfortunately when I tried to unlock the phone I was unable to, I am assuming because the rom on there (stock rogers 2.2) doesn't have some of the correct things...(sorry for not being more specific).
Right now my plan is to reflash back to stock 2.1 and try and unlock from there? I don't want to turn this into a "what rom should I use now" thread, but is there an good battery life 2.2 rom that would let me unlock. I've looked into flashing a 2.3 rom, but it seems like more work than I am willing to put in right now (although I'm sure it's not tooo hard, I don't have a ton of experience flashing, and I can't afford to really screw this phone up right now), especially with AT&T announcing they will be upgrading it to 2.3 sometime "soon" (hah).
Sorry I know this is a long post and not especially clear, but I'd really really appreciate the help.
thanks,
-Foofie
Hmmm, maybe flashing to gingerbread isn't as hard as I thought it was? According to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127249
it's just an odin 1 click now? Maybe it always has been and I'm an idiot, I wouldn't be surprised. So if I flash back to stock 2.1 and then flash to 2.3 using the above method (although I'm a bit confused about the extra files on that page, why do I need to change the kernel, how do I do so?) could I unlock the phone at that point? Or would I need to flash to a custom rom like cognition 5 or perception first?
Just flash to 2.1 root and unlock it from there. After that it will be unlocked and you can flash whatever. I've unlocked once six months ago flashed 1,000,001 times, still unlocked.

Ahhh thanks, this is what I was hoping to hear!
So even flashing with Odin wouldn't reset the unlocking? Doesn't Odin wipe all the phone data?
Not ALL data. The efs folder contains the imei number which is unique to each device. Just make sure and back that up (the efs folder), so if you have any network connectivity issues you can restore your imei...
Thanks.
God flashing to 2.2 the way I did was a huge mistake. Trying to flash back to stock soft bricked (hopefully that is what this is) my phone. Trying to get heimdall running now so I can use the 1 click unbrick.
Hello. So recently I have installed root on my samsung galaxy s5 mini or SM-G800H. The build number is G800HXXU1BPA1. Now I decided that I want to remove root so I tried to go to SuperSU directly via app and press full unroot. That is when it failed to unroot. From there I knew that I had to reinstall the factory rom for my phone. However me being a complete idiot, I didnt write down the firmware version. So I tried to go full mad and I tried multiple roms but I couldn't find the one right for it. I installed one but the back and the multitask buttons on the side of the screen werent working and also the internet was also failing to work. For the other indian version (Boi), the phone went under a constant boot loop. I am trying to look for the proper firmware. Some places say that the BPA1 is an African model but how can that be if I bought it in India? So to make things short, I need help on what rom to flash. The Indian ones? Or the African ones? I will try the one made for BPA1 or at least they say it is. If it works ill get back to you. If it doesn't, then much help is always appreciated. Thanks guys.
