I recently had to replace a cracked lcd (bought off eba) and now the digitizer wont respond. I sent the first back, and the second does the same thing. I have flashed numerous roms, including the factory ones,to no avail. All connections are good and clean. Do I need to change registry settings, or is there someway to "reset" to digitizer?
Thanks in advance.
The only thing that comes to mind is.

Not sure that I follow. I have looked for 3 days at older posts, tried their "solutions", but none worked. Did I miss one? If so, can you help point me in the right direction?
The title of your thread comes up at least every other week.

I had this problem. I did the Align Screen thing and it fixed it... Does the screen light up when you touch it?
The screen lights up fine, and has a good image. The stupid thing just won't respond to touch. I have tried tweaking the sensitivity in the registry, numerous hard and soft resets and at least 4 different cooked roms as well as the stock roms. The phone is hardspl'd to 3.29. I can bypass using the remote tool, but still can't align the digitizer.
Update: After still pouring throught the forums and trying everything I came across, still no luck. I have reflashed the stock rom (Cingular 6.1) and spl (1.93) per instructions found on here. If anyone knows how to fix this, please help! I can't even think of new google terms to try to find a fix. the phone works fine after running the remote alignment tool and bypassing the alignment. All keyboard buttons and softkeys work fine, it just won't respond to screen taps. Mods and seniors, I implore you, if you know the fix, please pm me.
I had the same problem, and I think it was because I removed the soft black liner that is between the screen and the bezel (because I was having a hard time getting the LCD to fit). I replaced the liner with one from another housing and now it works great. Good luck.
Try this, your going to have to take it apart again.
Check the ribbon where it's soldered onto the lcd, place a piece of tape over the exposed solder connections. For some reason mine was making some contact to metal and the touch screen won't work.
I put a piece of tape over it and it worked great. This was on a new replacement lcd as well
Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately it did not help. After now a third different replacement, I have pretty much given up.

Here's my story:
I recently bought this phone for only $125 - not bad deal if you ask me. I knew from the beginning that the screen was a little mess up, even the guy I bought it from knew that. You would need a flash light in order to see what was on the screen. From any other point of view, it's just totally dark/black. So the guy was gracious enough to include a new lcd screen which he ordered to replace the old one. So I decided to undertake the task of putting it in myself. Once that was all said and done, I powered the tilt up and it was doing the exact same thing before I put the new lcd screen in, which was not lighting up the screen and it was still very dark to see anything.
With a flashlight, you can see that it's still working and the touchscreen works fine too. I think another person posted a thread with the same problem, but no one really replied back to him. Has anyone come across this problem before? Some have said that it's the flex cable that connects to the front d-pad and lcd screen itself is the cause for the back light issue. Any suggestions out there?
If I were you I'd try to figure out the pinouts for the LCD panel. Try to see if the Kaiser is outputting the necessary voltage for the backlight. Also try the opposite and apply voltage to the LCD to test the backlight.
Unless it is 2 back LCDs, I'm assuming there is a fault somewhere internal and not turning on the backlight.
I've never taken my tilt apart, but this is where I would start.
I wouldn't know where to begin to troubleshoot a device like this. Lol! It's fairly easy to take apart - there's actually a video on youtube that takes you step-by-step. I guess this isn't as common as some problems are, but I don't want to spend money having someone else fix something that could be so minute. And prices for some of the replacement parts are almost as expensive as what I bought the phone for.
When I took my tilt apart, physically, everything looked good from what my eyes can see. A little cleaning here and there, nothing major. The guy who had it before me flashed the rom to try and make it look like it had touchflo on it so I reflashed it back to the original rom software (or at least, whatever was on the HTC website). I tried doing hard resets, soft resets, rom flashing and everything, still no luck.
I got this weird problem... On two Xperias! My first was like this from the beginning, the other started two days ago.
I can't get the screen aligned. i got coordinates from a friends perfectly aligned screen, and it is off, not in the edges, but in the middle. I don't understand what might be wrong. I have aligned my screen 30 times, and flashed the phone two, with two different ROMs, one original UK Xperia, one Blackstone by itje.
If other people got this problem, please make a post here.
Also, if you got "perfect align screen", if you can post your coordinates from the registry here, so I can test them, it would be great!
bump. please, need to find out if other people got this problem
Lol
Looks like nobody does. Do a hard reset on your phone from the Start Menu/Settings and perform the manual align by tapping the screen.
You can't just take settings from another phone and expect them to align because it doesn't work like that, otherwise the alignment wouldnt even be necessary.
Manual align this way and let us know how it goes.
Well, it did work at first. But the day after the middle part of the screen was completely off. But I have tried hard reset, soft reset, installed different ROMs, nothing works.
Sounds weird. Of the digitizer is broken it wouldn't work anywhere correctly. Check your installed programs. Maybe something is messing with your touch-alignment.
Have same issue
do you align using ur finger or ur stylus ??....better the stylus
"i got coordinates from a friends perfectly aligned"
Now that sentence made me think about what you are doing..
just align and follow the instructions? ...
Sorry but... JERK!
I tried to align, but it just looped, as I SAID BEFORE! Please read all posts before saying ANYTHING, because if not, it WON'T help me, or others that might have the same problem.
The coordinates from my friend, which I got from his registry, on the same phone, with same language, probably the same party, worked one day, the next it didn't. I allways align with my stylus, tried with finger, didn't help. got no programs installed, have tried itje's rom, and a vanilla Xperia UK rom, same problem.
In fact, same problem on TWO Xperias, gotten from the same store, same color, but the last from a later party, which my friend got one of too.
This can't be a coincidence... I will deliver my phone to the store, but I need confirmation about the loop from other people here too, because this time, I will get my money back. I can't go half a year without a phone because SE screwed up their deal with HTC, which choose to take cheap crap-plastics and apparently screens instead of the real deal in phones priced 650$++ here in Norway. It just doesn't hold up!
alignment routine looping
i've had the alignment program problem looping issue before and eventually realised that it was because I wasn't tapping the screen hard enough with my stylus. I'm not saying smash the hell out of it but applying a little extra pressure did the trick for me.
As far as loosing the settings and hacking it using a mate's calibration I'm with the others - probably an app you've got installed that's wiping it and using somebody else's cal is pointless!
I tried tapping so hard you get the lcd-effect, the rainbow-effect on the screen. Too hard. And, only prog i got installed is regedit. Only aftermarket I got, so thats no go. Guess the touch-thingy (digitizer?) is screwed then. Well, I want my money back
It will be just a few days till may warranty will be over (1 year warranty) and my silver just got almost dead digitizer today. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't since I installed touch response before so it'll vibrate when I touch it. I hard reset my phone since I think it maybe due to a software problem, but now I'm stuck on the align screen. I guess of all the Xperia users on the whole wide world I consider myself to be the "unluckiest".
Hey guys,
I've had my X1i for a year now. No hard falls most falls are on soft surfaces. & Suddenly today morning woke up & the touch screen isn't responding. So I looked up posts, some said turn it off & turn it back along with removing the battery & it should work fine. Tried that, worked for a bit then stopped working again. Also tried soft-reseting & gave the same result. So is there any other method you guys know ? I'm thinking the other type of reseting..forgot what it's called but that'll delete everything so i gotta back things up first. So any solutions? & thanks in advance.
Have you got a screen protector on it? If so, try lifting the edges of it a little.
Nope, no screen protector. Does it have to do with any .cabs i've installed before ? Or they're not related? Is the battery related? Could it cause something like that?
I once run into the following, it may help you too:
after installing an app(from a cab) my screen was allmost non responsive.
Calibration didn't help.
I have "Advannced config" installed, uppon checkin the sensitivity it was waaaaay down, even under default.
Hope it helps for you too =)
i had the same problem to on my proto x1
it completely stopped working and i tried everything (reflash rom, boot android)
but all without luck so i bought a replacement screen
after a while my touch screen started working again but still occasionally fails
i have not yet replaced my touchscreen, i am thinking about a loose connector or something...
btw i was on official r3 fw

here is one thread about it, there should be others if you search some more than I did
and this would be a means to get a new one (official site, similar price), if it really is the cause and you don't like to tinker
cheers and gl
If your LCD is working, then it could be bad digitizer like mine instead of the ribbon cable. (Well, I use X1 a lot in humid place like bathroom.....). Just pay a few extra to buy the LCD+Digitizer for about ~$30 that will save you a lot headache for just the digitizer alone. There's a thread in X1 accessories forum.
This may be a problem beyond the scope of android, but seeing as I'm running it, I thought I'd try here first.
I've noticed that the lower left hand side of my screen has a "dead spot" where touch is simply not registered. To illustrate, I went to screen calibration's test screen and drew a straight line along the edge of the screen. (See Attachment)
I've tried recalibrating the screen (manually and resetting to default calibration) as well as wiping data and reinstalling the system. Reinstalling the system worked once, but then the problem came back and subsequent reinstalls did not fix the issue.
I'm running Incubus26jc super froyo [RLS 12] on the 15-07-10 340X480 Froyo Kernel.
Anyone else seen anything like this? As far as I can tell, the problem is not getting any worse. Currently, it's only a hindrance when trying to use keys in that region, but I can work around it by switching to and from landscape. It's a bit of a hassle, so I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on the situation.
I was sure it was hardware until the system reinstall fixed it, but am now baffled as I can no longer replicate the fix.
I have not tried reinstalling the kernel but will at some point in the next day or so. I'd like to avoid switching back to WM to check if the problem persists, but may have to... we'll see. Doing everything I can to make this phone last until the Incredible month of February when I'm up for an upgrade.
dont know the issue resolution... but i have the same with my touch vogue.. and in the same 'area' apparently as well.
hard for me to hit the 'a' key on my keyboard. hehe
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one... anyone else?
Bottom right corner for me... I was able to calibrate around it but it took a few tries.

The sensitivity across my screen was inconsistent some time ago. I found that years of my abuse had taken a tole on the exterior of my phone. It eventually got worse and I bought a new housing (with a new digitizer) on ebay for a reasonable price. If it is hardware then it really isn't that hard to fix if you like taking things apart.
If you're sure that win mo accepts input from that part of the screen then nevermind my post. I would play with a painting app though and investigate the hardware further.
I may be talking a little out my a$$ with this part but.. is it possible that in calibrating your screen the os may change it's settings on how hard you have to press and such also. that may be how you got it working.
In any case, my investment in a hew housing was well worth it considering how modern my old phone has become thanks to the developers here.

In my case, no - when drawing a straight line down or across the screen, the line starts 'moving' away from the stylus (like the picture in the OP).
Gah... now it's shutting itself off randomly and the dead spot has grown. Not good at all.
Yeah, mine was better for a while then 'slid' again. I ended up swapping the digitizer with my other Vogue and things are back to normal.

I have another vogue, but am weary of doing anything like that. How hard was it to get done?
All you need to do is switch the front half of the housing rather than the digitizer itself- it's not hard. There's a teardown guide somewhere in the forum, Google Vogue teardown and it should be at the top.

The only thing that worries me is that my spare vogue exists because it was dropped in a muddy puddle. I'm hoping the water damage isn't too bad. Guess we'll just have to see.
it is really annoying
I have the exact same problem and I too thought it was a hardware issue till I saw this Thread. I was ignoring it till two days ago when it started really bugging me. Now, I don't even need to press any button and it automatically gets pressed around the curve and I have a google search box there, so it keeps on searching for eee or sss randomly and started draining my battery. Is there a proper fix for this?
I thought I'd chime in too... I could never seem to calibrate the touchscreen properly in either Android or Debian. Changing the screen resolution (i.e. msmfb scaling) seems to have no effect, whether it's 240x320 or 640x480. Any area within 5mm or so of the edges of the LCD will register as the edge, making "A" and several other keys on the virtual keyboard impossible to hit. Passing calibration values to the kernel didn't seem to fix anything, but it's possible I was using them the wrong way...
i have the same kind of problem on my Kaiser... i think its realted to hardware... either the housing or the digitizer...
I am experiencing the same problem on X10 mini pro. the same screen spot exactly, i have to try very hard to get z or x or shift to work. Sometimes when I try locking the screen and unlocking it back, it works.
update
so after a very long time with this problem i decided to change the digitizer and problem is gonne. visualy the broken digitizer had nothing wrong with it. The fix was fairly easy though, there is no glued parts involved into getting a new digitizer on the u20i.
Touch Screen
I just bought a brand new Cubot One and it looks more than perfect! It has just a little problem with the touch screen ( I think its the software, need ROM change). There is a dead line on the right side of the screen that touch doesn't work at all. Any solutions? Anyone faced that before? Can I fix it myself or do I have to send it back for replacement? Is there any video or guide that shows its done?
I uploaded a video on YouTube to show the problem but i cant post it yet.. (new member)
You can write "Cubot One touch screen problem" and it's the 1st one.
Thank You!
Hello guys! Saddly for me my touchscreen stopped working but the thing is that i bought a new screen assembly but i still have the same problem and the same spot doesnt work (on the digitzer, lcd works perfectly). I really dont know what to do i have tried to google my problem but people always solve there problem by replacing the screen and i did the samething and still nothing. I'm running the latest stock rom from at&t now but i have tried to flash viper rom and cleamrom, etc... but i have gotten the same result
i tought that it could be the digitzer connector on the motherboard but it looks new so i cant find the problem...
To be more specific the spot thats shown on the image does work but when i touch it, it shows that iam using 2 fingers when iam only using 1 its really anoying when i use the keyboard. When i touch that spot, the phone starts to select things arround the "dead" spot.
My apologies if i have made some dumb mistakes in the text, i'm from belgium so english isnt my mother laguage.
IF theres no liquid damage.
The phone was working just fine, then mysteriously stopped working in one spot. I would guess replace digitizer (aka glass) But if replacing glass has yielded the same result. Now it gets tricky. Now its either a board level issue or a problem with the Kernel interfacing with its hardware.
Since not a stock device and has been rooted with custom ROM its possible those software mods might have affected it.
My suggestion is do your best to go back to completely stock and hope for the best.

Thanks but iam already on stock i have used RUU to reset the phone, same result. And liqued damage is possible any idea what would help?
Or is it possible that the connector on the board is broken?
As you start to eliminate your possibilities the fixes become more difficult.
If your back on stock everything and still bad then its going back to board level stuff. Meaning the connector on the board or something along those lines.
If thats the case then the fix is near impossible.
Might want to get a good strong magnifying glass out and see what you can find.

Did you ever find out what it was?
My HTC One has a 1/4" section that doesn't respond to touch at all.
Hi
I have the same problem in my HTC ONE E9 PLUS where a longitudinal line along the screen does not respond. Does anybody find a solution for that please?

Most likely a faulty digitizer, replace your lcd assy.
