my sum up is the second to last paragraph if you don't want to read everything.
i need help. i'm tired and on my last end of flashing roms. i flash at least 8 times a day a different rom to try them out and see which one is the best. so i'm coming out to ask everyone.
i don't want to really make a new thread about this but i just hate having to start all over with loading apps and getting my settings all ready.
my question to you all is which rom is the fastest rom out now. pure speed and reliable. i wanted to try the overclocked ones but not feeling to comfortable with my camera not working. i also have a garbage sd card so that doesn't help. i will get a real one soon but not for now. i don't really use my camera but you know when you get caught up in the moment and say oh look. and you take out the phone and bam"oh wait. my camera doesn't work" unless i can dual boot my hero with 1.6 with is super tiny????
i have tried all the roms already but i would like to hear from the community which rom do they think is the best.
i multitask alot where i will use the navigator and listen to music i will even go on a website and answer a texts all at the same time. i know that's alot asking from the hero but it's frustating to me when i'm in the car using the navigatoin and bam it closes on me cause i have alot of apps open.
another problem i have is when i get an incoming message using handset and trying to type on the keyboard. it is just so many words behind when i am typing and i just want a good rom that works. so if you can recommend the best fastest keyboard out i don't care about vibration but i do care about the sound. that's very important to me.
i don't want to name any roms out or call them out but i really like the ereis leak from damaged 1.1v but it is a battery leak on it that prevented me from staying on that rom....
what do you think of using the 1.6 rom that is bone stock and dry and adding stuff in it????
i need help choosing the fastest keyboard with as less lag as posible. i don't care if i have to buy it or not. i don't want to use swipe yet so i don't want to put that in the equation. i would like the fastest most stable rom here that can multiask and receive text using the handset pop up with no slow down. if anyone knows about the battery drain in the eris leak damaged 1.1beta and can fix it let me know....
thanks you so much,. i love my hero. and i love all the devolopers that spend there own time making roms for us to have the best experience posible. if it wasn't for them(there's alot. you know how you are) we would be sitting om hero's that can't send or receive mms, old 1.5 rom, buggy. battery dying in 3 hours. and alot more. i use 1.5 for about 3 days so i don't know all the problems the stock rom had but i know it's alot.

im running out the door but i wanted to respond to one thing you said. The AOSP 1.6 is a great rom, and you can reall customize it to your needs. Very fast. Im waiting for the 2.1 fully working AOSP, like you, i need camera. If you are looking to stay in 2.1, ive tried a few and found alyoious or whatever to be very relieable, stylish and fast.

honestly if you think 1.6 aosp is the fastest rom out there and you really highly recommend it i will try it out fully. i only used it for a couple minutes when trying to get the market place apps in.
what would you say is the cons about going to 1.6 from 2.1????

Cons? No lwp. (anyway, lwp's aren't great on our phones, kinda sluggish, amirite?) Make sure you flash the googlebits
ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5195520

Thanks alot. i really thank you.
i don't care about live wallpaper compared to performance. i read that thread that you gave me and i have a question.
what is the difference between that 1.6 and this
unless they are the same. i will do a research on what google bits is all about....
also can i have voice navigation on 1.6 using google maps??? if not i can just use sprint nav....
question. i looked some more in that thread and saw that some stuff isn't working. i think i should try the one i have first andd see what happens right????
if you want to wait for 2.1 to come out officially, i will recommend the pancake 1.5 rom without sense. it is by far the fastest, most stable rom ive run and with autokiller set to extreme this sucker flies.
you just keep on bring more and more questions in my head.
i thought 1.5 was just completely bugged out with the problems thats why everyone lefted???
i cant find the pancake rom with no sense. i will miss it but if the performance increase is huge then i won't miss it that much. lol.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639278&highlight=pancake
enjoy! i have had zero bugs with this rom.
question. i had 1.6 in my mind and how it is the perfect rom and you popped up with 1.5 and i'm afraid to use it because bugs it came with before.
so would you recommend this over the 1.6 that is 16mb big????
and if so then which pancake would you recommend i would like to keep sense but if no sense is ALOT faster and MUCH BETTER with battery life then i will go stock....

go with whatever you wish but ive run this rom longer than any other. i personally don't like sense at all myself so it's your choice in the long run, sense does chew up ram so remember that. there has been zero bugs that i have found and i have a ton of free ram left and great battery life. the closest ive had to the pancake rom in terms of performance is fresh 2.0d.
ok. this is what i will do. i will download pancake 1.5 no sense and keep it on my sd card.
i want to try 1.6 to get it out my head if it is good or not. if i find any bugs i will flash over to pancake. lol.
last question. is your mms good and can i use 2.1 vanilla lock screen. i really like it.
i'm so happy.
i like how you said the closes you had to your pancake is fresh 2.0d but you flashed back to pancake so i'll also put that up there but that's if i am not happy with pancake.

no vanilla lockscreen im afraid on 1.5 but there is clear ones you can get on here if you search. mms has been fine for me.
thanks man. you have helped me out a bunch. i will try 1.6 to get it out my head if it isn't good. pancake it is. i'm so happy. i wish i could rep you.
i have a question. i'm loving 1.5 performance and the battery life is great.
i'm using the sense one because the stock 1.5 was alittle bland. but the marketplace is alittle dull
so i have wondering if there is a nice 1.6 build thats very good.
i also notice that multi-touch isn't on in 1.5 unless it is the keyboard i'm using. i'm i wrong???

Hey guys,
I'm new to rooting and xda, I'm thinking about getting a Hero rom on my g1 but I have read mixed reviews about lag etc..
My question to you is, are you running a Hero Rom? How does it perform? Which Rom would you recommend?
Thanks, I love you guys.

hero roms when compared to cupcake roms do tend to lag at time. esp when the phone has been runign for hours or days without restart.
in my opinion i think drizzy 2.2r2 is the best hero rom for speed and is pretty stable. i am waiting for drizzy to finish his 5 or 6 rom project and he told me that dopod will be the best hero rom to date.
some hero roms tend to have missing sms...esp when receiving.. i recommend again drizzy 2.2r2 for speed but jacxhero 1.4 or 1.2 is the best as far as stability goes in my opinion. stability meaning lack of bugs. esp in the market and sms issues. but jac hero roms tend to run slower than drizzy.
I'm currently running JacxHeroskiv 1.4 (gotta love the name ) and I find it's fairly useable if you use a 64mb linux-swap partition on a Class 6 card. I only populate one screen, this is just a prefrence, if you use more than one the homescreen is still useable, but sometimes you will swipe and it wont change screen for a few seconds. Battery life is poor. It must be about 3/4 of what I get on Cyanogen Mod, but I can live with that. One of the problems with Hero ROMs is that they are made for a phone without a keyboard. So there are lots of apps that don't rotate and there are issues with the virtual keyboard and hardware keyboard which are ver annoying. If you can live without bluetooth and LEDs (they are working on LEDs) and a slightly slower phone it's worth a try. Just make a nandroid backup before hand.
My advise for the moment is wait from Drizzy Drake's "Dopod" ROM. It's based off and upcoming update for the Hero itself, to make the phone more smooth and add a couple of extra features. We don't really know when it's going to be out but I'm guessing it will be here in a couple of weeks.

According to his latest Tweet it will be released today, he is out running around paying bills, you know the normal stuff people do that have life's, unlike most of us
It's a sad day in my life when I wake up and the first thing I do is check xda for ROM updates! It's Saturday for gods's sake!! I need to get out!
Anyway
I'm running Jac's Hero 1.4 and love it! I'm not one that cares for colors (theme's)
I get NO lag or htc or loading in 4 days since switching to 96mb Linux-swap and swappiness at 60. Love them settings!
SUggest you get it if you want bling and don't care about bluetooth not working
I got back and fourth between Hero and Cyan builds. Check my signature for build types.
My opinion on Hero is this...
It's good to try out and play around with but I wouldn't use it as a primary rom for your phone. In other words... it's good to flash if your bored and with time to kill. I've never had it on my phone for more then a day or two. If you want fast and stable then go for the 4.0.1 Stable Cyanogen Rom (or the updated version depending on when you reference this and since he's updating all the time for improvements) and you won't regret it. Since your considering Hero, I'm assuming that you've already partitioned your sdcard with the ext format. This is a requirement for Hero roms but it optional but recommended for Cyanogen roms (for apps to sd purposes). If you want to bounce back and forth between roms you can use the Switchrom Script with the Cyanogen 1.4 Recovery and it's painless to do. Even without a computer. Give it a shot... the worse that can happen assuming you get past the Danger SPL part is that you won't like one and can switch back.

Ahhh i know the feeling of waking up in the morning with the hope of a brand spanking new rom out there... i do it practically everyday... haha
as for my hero preferences, I'm running JACxHeroski 1.4 as well, only with my swap at 32 and it's running perfectly. been running it for a while and only gotten one or two loading screens.
ALSO, if you check out Teh Dust's Rosie color changer, you can change the entire system colors. it's pretty awesome. i've got a purple rosie and purple framework and everything.
That about says it above. Hero has some cool features I like like flash 9 and some other cool UI stuff. Like it was suggested above and on jac's post use as few screens as possible and I stay away from the weather widget, or I choose one and it usually does okay. For me after the newness wore off I wanted my speed back! Anywho...Go for it!
It's not worth it, not made for g1 no matter what they do to it. Lags no matter what you do. Get Cyanogen's or jacxrom's build.

that's a little negative... sure, it has lag occasionally, if you do it correctly. but then again, cyan's isn't perfect either. don't get me wrong. cyanogen is my go-to cupcake rom. but it still has it's bugs.

I agree...it even lags on the actual hero itself. With that being said it's fun to show off and experience first hand without actually buying a hero. It's cool, Just not stupid fast or super stable as of yet.
And that's what I need...stupid fast! lol
Spent 10 hours today!
I am not new to this stuff...been modding iPhones since the first one came out and so forth. I spent 10 hours today working with Hero...JackHero..I think it was. I loved it! It took some work to make it work however...alot of work. The end result was i twas not fast enough for me. I thought i could comprimise becasue I had seen the demos and such...but I am more "Go " than "Show" Unfortuatly I could not get it as fast as I liked. other than that it is AWESOME!

I think the hero rom is the best one out there. The lag is not really a problem for me(using 92MB swap). However, the they are working on the update that will improve the speed. Nothing beats the Hero's UI!!
I just rooted my phone today after finally getting an 8gb class 6 so I only have one days experience with the hero Rom but so far I like it, the lag is there but I can deal with it for now...my browser is pretty fast and I get all things incoming so I'm happy as long as that works..eventually I'll start to mess with the partions to get it to run a little faster...I've been nodding psp's for years now so I know I could get the hang of this...

Not negative truthful, want him to know what he's getting into before he does it. Every build has bugs that's just the nature of the beast. Patience has nothing to do with it for me personally, I use my phone for a phone above all and I need something reliable.
Hey guys,
Could anyone suggest to me the fastest, most stable ROM for my G1 that doesn't run into any issues (especially from everyday use).
I've used plenty of them, mainly sourcing off Cyanogen but I seem to always get some delays especially with my phone, so many people have told me they tried ringing me but went straight to voicemail and my phone has no missed calls or anything, just sitting idle and this is a major pain.
I'm currently on the original version waiting to upgrade, is there an official Cupcake version I can download? My calls coming in quickly are more important than themes right now.
Thanks!
Im using CSDIv1....its a FAST rom. I dont have Swap enable(Sucks battery) nor 10MB Ramhack(Like my 3D apps), and still its a really fast rom.
There is only one problem with it, and its that the Keyboard is on Spanish. But you can change it just pushing a folder to the system, and voila. If you need some asistance, just ask.
I suggest the latest MghtyMax ROM. Is the fastest and stable Hero ROM I've tested.
super d 1.8...i made the switch from Cyanogen a few weeks ago and its been 100% worth it. Super D's rom is lighting fast I promise and i had a problem with missed texts on CM's rom and have not had that problem since i switched.

I keep hearing this, and as soon as my class 6 micro comes in, I think Im gonna have to try it.
Its hard to believe, as I just flashed cyanogen 4.2.14.1 ands its freakin fast. Hard to believe theres a faster one.
Guess I ll have to give it a shot. Has anyone actually tried cyanogens newest and compared it to super d 1.8? Is it really THAT much faster?

Thanks for your help man.
For everyday use you want Cyanogen.
For Speed get either FastTest or SuperD. They're basically the same thing.
Hope this helps.
I suggest DarkStar theme for Cyanogen and SuperD
I use king's 2.3 hero rom, I only use hero roms anyway though, best normal rom I've tried, however is super d. although, cyanogen is very "noob friendly"

Hmm..Im curious why you say that. What makes Cyanogen more "everyday useable"? What would you actually say are the biggest differences in the 2 roms?
Really they're all apples, just different flavours. From what I've read, they all have the same bits and bites from Eclair; cyanogen's modded code (right?). I personally pick CM over everything else because the community support for CM is a larger, more discussion. Of course, this doesn't mean the other ones are inferior. You should try them all for like a day or two. Wipe before you try a new one, so you can tell which one really works best.
2.1 Roms on the other hand I think need more work. Not all the drivers work yet. I tried OpenEclair and I felt a bit handicap compared to the 1.6 Roms. Also, for me at least, it didn't feel as fast as the 1.6 Roms. Good roms but need more work.
I was running Cyonogen for some time and I was pleased but I love to experiment. For the last 2 weeks I've been testing the 2.1 ASOP roms out from King(1.5) and Enclair (1.15). Both are great builds but I prefer the customization in enclair more and both are fairly stable. I was having the issue of texts getting deleted and the Rom's just seemed like they were not as quick as I wanted them to be. I enjoyed the new layout but I was finally just frustrated with overall performance and I keep reading about the Super D build. I wiped my phone and threw it on few hours ago and WOW! It is blazing fast and very stable from what I can see so far. I've tried some apps out that were proving difficult before and just wow I am amazed. This build may be on the 1.6 based side but I am glad to have performance back over some "prettyness". I may try the 2.1 builds again but I will wait for all of the kinks to work out. So my opinion is hands down Super D ( I believe it was 1.8 v) is the best build available right when looking at overall performance and stability. I love it! Made my day!
*on a side note*
I could never get Youtube to install and work with the enclair ASOP 2.1 builds, it was very frustrating as you cannot download the app from the app store and issues installing manually via the APK.
I found AmonRa 1.6.3 to be the fastest and stable ROM, in my opinion
Rgds
I want speed, stabilitiy and normal functionality for the phone for my girlfriend. It looks like the Cyanogen is the safest bet... am I right to infer that 2.0/2.1 ROMs aren't quite up to snuff yet?

In my experience, 1.6 will always be snappier then 2.0/2.1 builds; at least for now. Our G1s don't exactly have a huge amount of space to store bigger ROMs. Really having 2.1 isn't necessary but it does have some nice features that 1.6 doesn't have. Like ability to have multiple google accounts and facebook sync. I can't really think of anything else of the top of my head but I'm sure there are at least a few others.
One thing people haven't gotten to work on 2.1 ROMs for G1, is the video camera. Camera works though on most 2.1 ROMs now (all?). The new contacts display for 2.1 is nice but even laggier then the one used in 1.6 ROMs. Can't think of anything else, someone help!
Basically, 2.1 has a lot more STUFF in general. Whether you need this extra stuff is up to you, because STUFF needs more RAM stuff, and G1 is low in that department.
My opinion:
MghtyMax 1.9.1 is veeeery fast!!! (with Swap, SetCpu and all that stuff, of course)
I like any of the Roms from King's collection and I like Super-D verry much too. Cyanogen's rom has a larger community cause that's normally what people hear when learning about rooting and stuff. I only used Cyan when I compared Enom to Cyan and Enom's was faster and everything was great.Super-D is faster than Cyan but seems slower than Enom's, Cyan has the eclair stuff just like Super-D. But I think its up to what you like you cant let others decide cause their perception of speed is diff from yours.

I just actually read about that rom, and it seems good. What makes me wonder though, is that some people say its faster than Super D. How could it actually be faster, as this rom is more or less just Super D with a theme installed? Surely, having the theme installed would decrease performance buy a little bit, vs increase it.
But what do I know
Edit: Ok, Im stupid. as Fast Test doesnt have the Eclaire stuff, thats where a performance increase would come. **slams head on keyboard**
Super D, hands down. No rom even comes close.
And Fast Test 2.3 IS Super D, just with a theme, so unless you want that specific theme, there's no point in getting Fast Test, when Super D is available.
I've been stuck on a 1.6 version ROM for a long time now, and honestly the extra features in 2.1 don't really appeal to me all that much, however, my favorite theme, DarkStar, no longer is supporting the SuperD line of version 1.6 ROMs and are likely going to be incompatible with any future version 1.6 ROM updates, this theme however is available for Cyanogen 5.0.7, but this is a version 2.1 ROM. I want to know how the performance is on this ROM in comparison to a 1.6 ROM, because I know most if not all devices running 2.1 have substantially more RAM and occasionally a faster processor too. Speed is a pretty big deal to me, and I am slightly hesitant to switch to Cyanogen because in the past I have tried a Cyanogen ROM around 3 times, and each time it would start out fast then turn unusable slow after a couple weeks, along with that it would drop text messages and not be able to receive MMS at all [dropping them]. That however is in the past, so i was just wondering if I could get some input on this, because if 2.1 is even a hair slower than 1.6, then I am simply not interested.
EDIT: I do use my phone to text and make phone calls a lot therefore reliable is essential to me. However, even on the 1.6 ROM I am on (its the SuperD version 2 versions behind the current one, I havent updated because the theme i want isn't compatible) there are still a few bugs, especially with messaging. Several times a day it will just stop being able to send SMS messages, it will just say error every time, this can be fixed by restarting the application, however the problem is that even though it says error, sometimes the message does indeed go through even though it says it doesn't, which is a bit problematic as I don't know whether or not my friends have received the message or not, or if I should try resending it and end up looking a bit dumb sending multiple messages of the same thing.
Well, cyanogenmod 5 runs nicely. However, it's not stable (it's not supposed to be) and really isn't great as a daily driver. Considering you actually use and need your phone, I wouldn't use anything that's not stable. If you don't really ever need your phone/texting or not worried about some great disaster happening soon in the family or friend circle, try it out and report the bugs to help it improve. If you NEED your phone (like me - hint to the family/friend disaster example) I suggest saying with Donut until it becomes stable.
However, don't mistake me, it runs. Smoothly and effectively. There are some bugs, but all experimental builds are going to be buggy (all 2.1 ROMs are experimental in my view).
But, simply to answer topic at hand, yes it is quite fast and smooth. No need for swap (actually recommended that you don't use it) or task killers (ditto). =]
Edit: Compared to a 1.6 - to me, a LITTLE BIT faster. Not enough for me to risk using it. Of course, when it comes to the "speed" I go with feeling, not numbers.
Another edit: Cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 is amazing. All his other ROMs were too slow for me as well, but this one really stepped it up.

Opps, I meant NOT supposed to be. My mistake.
CM5 has been crazy stable for me. The speed is absolutely ridiculous compared to donut at least to me it does. It has a much newer and more upgraded kernel then donut (.29 vs .33.4). Cyanogen's kernels are even better then google's lol. I have not had a problem with text's, and it is just as stable for me as somewthing like Dwangs on 1.6. The only issues I had were with fast battery drain, but that problem is completely fixed now. Just try it, the worst that could happen to you is loosing maybe an hour, but trust me you wont regret it. Don't mess around with LWP or swap, they actually slow you down. Also try out the new Launcher pro from market, it's amazingly fast.
Hi, I'm a Samsung Moment user trying to help a friend with a Hero. He has the official 2.1 update, and I'm going to try regaw's root method on it. Afterward, I need to find a good custom ROM to apply for him. His biggest complaint is that the phone is slow - lag dialing, etc... So I'm hoping for something dead simple without many bells and whistles. He doesn't even care about Sense, so a ROM without sense would be fine. I see a huge number of choices out there and I don't want to keep flashing roms on his phone over and over. So are there any recommendations on a simple 2.1 rom that runs lightning fast?
If your friend can give up MMS, Darchdroid is the way to go, in my opinion. It is an AOSP ROM based off of Cyanogen Mod. It's overclocked naturally (He won't have to do any special tricks or download any apps) to 710 MHz. It is senseless. The newest versions get crazy-good battery life. I have yet to experience any lag on this ROM.
I used SushiROM before this and it was also pretty quick and stable, but it hasn't been updated in ages (I don't think). I hear ICEROM is jsut as good as Sushi, but I haven't tried it.

DarchDroid all the way.
I love it i just email pictures if i have to.
Darchdroid if he can give up mms.
DamageControl 2.0.9 if he needs mms
or IceRom if he likes the look of Darchdroid but needs mms.
=)
If you want the closest one to the official sprint release, I suggest Fresh ROM. Although Flipz has done a lot of optimizations and stripped out a lot of the bloatware, but other than that it is pretty close to the official release. I have heard great things about Darch, but haven't tried it yet because I thought I wanted Sense, but have changed my mind and am running LauncherPro on Fresh right now.
I cannot neglect a fact after i tried so many roms by cyanogen: no one rom is so stable for everyday use.
for 1.6 , the 4.2.15.1 is the last version ,but you must wait a long time to make a normal call ,it is not standale, and it also had a missing sms issue.
for 2.1, i do not know if there is still a updated version after 5.0.8. the camera issue is still there , and also i encounter 2 times cannot-bootup issue (only reflash the rom again).
cyanogen's work is awesome , but i think the stable rom is so important for normal use. IS THERE ANY ONE?
I'd suggest downgrading to the engineering spl, downgrading to rc29 and then waiting for the official OTA to get back to the official ROM.
that's the only STABLE rom out there. the rest is put together, but I personally don't care as I like to make fun of my friends who bought the N1 because they said the g1 would never see froyo.
Living on the edge has it's costs
considering that you're probably using a G1 and I use first gen MT3G and the rate at which new improved phones are coming out in these quick and disposable times, I think it is absolutely amazing that we can stick with new phones, try out there interfaces before they're even released. You're not hacking and I'm not hacking hardcore, but we get faux hack thanks to work of all these people who aren't making a dime on these roms. All lot of these people start like you and me and by flashing learn more and more about these phones. For example, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you can go about using superuser terminal, which is thanks to quite a few people who made it possible for noobs to root their phone in the first place, anyways, in terminal you can decide how much priority you give to the phone apk. Google it. Hell there's a guy on the sapphire forum who's give instructions on how to build your own stock froyo so you can tweak it however you want, check it out, I'm thinking about it.
I was diehard nokia fan up until they sold me a n95 that had 3g, just not here and told me there was nothing they could do about it. I thought their system was open....geez it was nothing compared to this android thing.
the one thing that bites my a** here is seeing response to roms where people have lost focus of important things like manners. I'm not saying this is you, but check it out. Guy like Chrome or such, works super hard releasing a rom every other day and somebody chimes in, wifi doesn't work, or camera is force closing, not a daily driver, I flashing back....What? I mean, how about a thanks for chance to check out something new or hey, how about asking why it might not work and learning the process. Think about it, these guys got to have a day job, cause they ain't making it selling roms or monitoring forums to teach some guy how to flash, but they do it and they don't complain. Very rare to find this kinda service today or even yesterday.
Welcome to the community and learn something about why your phone with a certain rom isn't functioning perfectly, I think you'll be glad you did.
Are you kidding me, how picky are you gonna be? Especially since we are still getting support for the G1. Maybe you would be better off with an iphone. I'm rockin CM6 and damn proud of it.
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
a little peculiar,i admit. cyanogen did and does great job.
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
I normally flash on a daily basis just for fun and I can tell there are many roms that can be used as a daily rom and stable
one of them is "Eclair" "Super D" for me everything I need is working and fast
there is also a Froyo Rom by LefeuDeDieu that work fast and stable
for 1.6 I found super E the fastest
so I would say You haven't found the right set up for your phone and your needs
Try cyas 6.0 (froyo 2.2) RC1 with the new gapps (FRF91-3).... it flys for me if you don't install too many apps and is very stable (in my opinion more stable than cyas 5.x). If you pump it with apps the internal memory gets low, no matter how much you move to sd or clear the cache (due to the froyo apps2sd method). You can try too get things better with setcpu (compcache made things worse for me), but with too much load cyas 6.0 turns very slow for me.
/edit ... with Firerats CustomParitions (solving the froyo apps2sd low memory issue) and the CM6 Build from studjuce (using launcherpro instead of adw) its as fast as hell :O even faster than Clay's CSDI ... oh man i guess i have a new daily driver :>
For donut (1.6) i prefer HTCClay's CSDI REMIX, which runs stupid fast no matter how much apps you install on your sd-ext. I personally found it faster than Super D / E. This is my daily driver since i randomly use Cyas 6.0.
I assume you have danger SPL since you installed cyas 5x. (if not ... beware )

Yes. Unroot your phone and get the official updates from t-mobile, sprint, etc. Problem solved, too easy...

OP,
I am sorry for the flames you're receiving for asking a legitimate question. People on this board automatically make the assumption that users only want to use leading edge software. Xda has become very mainstream nowadays. News Media is driving everyday users here who just want an improved experience, but who dont necessarily understand the complexities of development. Does that mean they are not welcome? Absolutely not.
To answer your question, a rom based off donut or eclair will give you the results you are looking for. I specifically use zd donut 1.8 "got donut? " rom(ignore my signature)..... it is fast and stable. But so are the super e and supper d series roms. GivE them a go, you will be thankful. But every now and then flash a new rom just to check it out.
Good luck
Just my 2 cents
I am in the same boat, I like trying out new things but I need my phone for everyday use, that's why I picked up a spare G1 with cracked screen for less then $50 and use it to try out new stuff (currently CM6). My main driver - Super-D 1.9.3, the last stable version that you can actually call stable. I also removed whole bunch of stuff that I don't ever use and added some visual enhancements (clear settings widget, MusicMod, ADW latest launcher). Man, thant thing flyes and not a single FC in over 3 months.
All in all, it's inevitable that most of us will get new phones and these "improvements" will be oushined by stock roms but in the mean time be thankfull for what you get (for free!!!!) and learn enough to customize any rom to the point that it fits your needs.
Somebody else pointed this out earlier, but I'm gonna bring it up again. We're lucky to even have support for 2.1 on D/S. It's not meant for our devices and, yah, there are going to be some bugs, considering it was meant for a different devices. The same goes (pretty much) double for 2.2. When I got my Dream, I didn't imagine we would/could get past 1.6. I was freaking out when I got Eclair for the first time. Now we're on Froyo, same version as the N1, and (for me, at least) it's running better than Donut ever was for me.
While I do agree that we don't have many completely stable roms nowadays, I'm also grateful that we have developers like Cyanogen who still care about the lower income (I say that because I justt don't have the funds to purchase a higher end Android phone as of right now, and I suspect that may be the reason many other people have invested in one either) public enough to keep putting out solid, functional roms.
Count your blessings.
enomther "theofficial" roms are super stable.Keep coming back to them.

Here's my top choices of roms that ive found to be extremely fast
and stable as heck.
Donut Roms: 1st choice - Htcclay's superbad/superfast
2nd choice - SuperD.
Eclair Roms: 3rd choice - Chromatic 3.9.1
(Extremely fast and stable for a eclair rom but is nothing compared to those Donut roms.)

Hey paaaaan!
I totally understand where you coming from, I (and probably many users here) have exactly the same problem. When i got my MT3G and first rooted it (more than a year and a half now) i was trying out a different ROM everyday, just polaying around and having fun. Cyan's ROM's never really worked out for me and i think i got a bit traumatised about it (although i recognize the invaluable contribution he's been to the Android community - it just couldn't possible be the same scene without him and Google should, if it hasn't already, recognize this fact. But after some time i started wanting to have a stable rom, just something that wouldn't hang out on me or lagged all the time - this was quite some time ago, mind you, the Hero sense ROMs were coming out for the first time and 1.6 had just been released. after many tries i stuck with Dwang's Donut build (no longer developed) which at the time was the fastest and most stable ROM i found. I stuck in my head that none of the latest versions of Android would run as smooth in my phone so i stayed with Dwang's (flashing it every month or so) until very recently actually.
I don't really remember why but i decided to give a go to the newest ROM's after reading so much praise for them in here... and i must confess i was really taken back by how far the development had come and what i had missed. I've tried Cannon202 Complete Eclair 2.2, Clay's SuperBad 1.6 & 1.7 and now on Chromatic 3.9.1 and i must say they all are stable enough for everyday use, according to my standards. Now, you must note that many times what makes the ROM unstable is not the ROM itself but how you flash it and how you fill it. I ALWAYS wipe completely before flashing a ROM - and don't just do a complete wipe in recovery but actually use fastboot to wipe the system as well. Another thing you must note is the amount of apps you throw at it, and how fast i do it. If i install or recover all my apps after install no ROM holds stable... instead i go installing them little by little, as i need them... i found out that with the exact same ROM this makes a HUGE difference! Also, after you flash, wait for it to settle down before you start configuring it... i normally also do one or two reboots before i start tweaking anything or installing apps. Compcache and swap never really worked for me so i don't use it (though i do have the SD partioned for that). SetCPU and the right configuration on the settings of the phone (try Chrome's post-boot set-up on his Cromatic thread) make a huge difference.
I must confess i really like Clay's SUPERBAD ROM (1.6 actually works better for me then 1.7) but it seems it has been discontinued, unfortunately; and i still haven't tried any Froyo build (waiting for it to mature, let some problems be solved.... nothing really in it that i can't live without); but i consider all Eclair ROM's i've tried based of Cyan's 5.0.8 perfect for everyday use. I mean, they are faster than the stock Vodafone ROM it came with the phone. Of course, you will have problems after a while and need to rewipe and reflash but that is exactly why you rooted your phone right?
