XDAndroid flashing - Touch Diamond CDMA

Sorry if this has already been addressed, I searched but couldn't find a post on it. The only way I currently know of running XDAndroid on my Diamond is to run it with Haret. Unfortunately, I pretty much have to keep my phone plugged into a wall somewhere, because I get about 1 or 2 hours of battery life, and that's it! Is there a way to flash XDAndroid to the phone itself, so that's the only OS on the phone? I'd be happy to completely ditch WinMo at this point.
Thanks!

Thinking about doing this myself, but my diamond shares the same battery life as well. Would installing it as the main OS even help with this issue? Has a fix been found for the battery in XDAndroid?
I am a n00b to XDAndroid, so sorry for my n00bieness, lol.

WM is Useless
I also would like to know if it is possible to do a full flash to android. Android is stable enough that i am prepared to take it on full time.

Would also like to know this, just using android would be great!

NAND support is not high on the to-do list. They finally came up with ext2 support as of 6/12, but it is not yet ready for widespread use. Also, hw3d acceleration requires you to first boot into WM and run Sense or another 3D app for initialization.
The main problem from what I've read is that since the hardware was not tailored to Android, a lot of the low-level stuff relies on WM initializing the hardware before haret takes over. If someone wants to cook up a bare-bones ROM that gets WM up to a point so that Haret can autostart, like someone did this for the Touch GSM, that's as close to "Android-only" as it can get at this point in time.

Android on Diamond...
Hi guy,
Don't think Android will work perfectly at this time. It still building ! It's why there are no ROMs yet: it's easier to update the system from SD card (not in read only mode)
But we are lucky because of XDA
The best way for Diamond is to install the CAB from this post :
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5420781#post5420781
With this, you only have to run the XDAndroid shortcut in your start menu
This release allows you to run Android in overclocked mode ! 650mhz instead of 500mhz
Just replace /internal storage/Startup.txt file by /internal storage/devices/diamond-overclocked/startup.txt
You can also add a dual boot manager :
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792&highlight=xdandroid+diamond
Verry usefull to auto boot your favorite system

So... Windows Mobile 6 is here?

I've found this link in the wm5 upgrade forums but without any explanation or comment...
1-What is included in this file?
2-Ripped from which device?
3-Radio compatible with BlueAngel?
4-Every devices may had different hardwares, is that rom had universal H/W
support?
5-Are the Rom makers interesting or working on this rom?
6-Who had test this rom?
7-Which device still use this rom?
8-What is new in this rom?
9-Is there any screenshots here?
10-If someone crash him device when upgrading to this rom, who can help?
11-I know this is not a forum thread but that mean this rom-link not dangerous?
12-Can anybody give some explanations over Windows Mobile 6 (I wrote allways as 6 because this rom is not Windows Mobile 2006 <I've heard somethings on somewhere>)

This site had very very unique threads, tools, roms, and lots of stuff...
I've BA & use wm5 rom by helmi_c;
what I think about this rom, 3 answers I have:
1-Bluetooth problems with my headset.(msi and motorola h3 too) without BT_Patch. But it's my problem and thats mine choose, i must wait fix. GPS and other BT services works perfect.
2-Wifi problem, sometimes needs to reset. May this problem will never resolve, i can live with this
other side Wifi give beter performance than windows 2k3, really! I think it's come from ram paging pool,
exm: I control my pc with wifi and i can play GTA san andreas from my pda, eheheh, i can show my msn web cam to
my friends
"When they out of my house! range som's 30 m"
but som's pda goes slowing down.I don't know why.
3-Phone sometimes give error while turning on/off flight mode and phone goes to lock while speaking longtimes. But not allways.
now,
There is 5 creators here, and they make wm5 roms whith different roms but they have some problems may the creators can works together and give us a clean wm5 or wm6 rom.

Sorry for the long message, but i need some information, may someone can givethis. Because i've belive here.
MANY MANY THANKS READING.
I allready saw too , but it's for Universal, let's hope we will have soon a wm6 for BA
Well they have one for both the Wizard and the Universal now, we just need one for the Blue Angel, come on guys, the suspense is killing us
Will it be possible to port the ROM for BA? 'Cos I saw some post somewhere in 4rum saying it seems impossible???

that we dont know yet, also because most of BA developers are changing to Universal at the moment. honestly, I dont see that it's gonna happen soon specially without having enough developers working on it.
There is a ROM out for the HTC Universal and HTC Wizard. There is nothing yet for our HTC BA.
I did have a look porting it, but it looks pretty impossible for me to do -I'd never done it before and there is no base ROM at the moment.
Only thing we can hope for is some of those BA gods do a spiffing job on it!! (We know who they are )
Pray that it'll be quite possible!!!

So sad to hear this. All we need are the base cleaned ROM and relevant tools to edit. But like you said, I guess we may be gonna have to wait for long, if it's really possible.

You can edit the crossbow roms with mamaich tools for WM5, but there is more than adding drivers for make WM6 work on BA, the main problem is WM6 core, if someone manage to port it it will work
(Nothing's impossible, but some things are harder to achieve)

totally agree to that xplode, so hurry up, we are all waiting
anyway plz do your best
alternately you COULD try running xbow on top of wm5 core (similar thing was done for OS X on PC's, until recently for that they used 10.4.8 OSX with 10.4.4 kernel) If this works (it should - kernel for WM5 is 5.1.xxxxx, WM6 is 5.2.xxx, only a 0.1 increment) then you could run crossbow just without the core
without the core rom, are we gonna have most functionalities still?
i dont know - im just brainstorming atm
hopefully most of the features will be separate from the core, remember it's still based on CE 5 and only a .1 increment
Hi guys,
I've been looking at the WM6 leaks for Uni and Wiz with a view to getting something running on BA.
The 2 biggest problems are
- the kernel (nk.exe) is compiled per-hardware platform.
so a WM6 kernel exists for universal, and for wizard, but not for BA
the only reason we were able to run WM5 on BA was because of a leaked
kernel for our hardware platform
- the WM6 roms are much larger than wm5 ones
Even a base set of features seems to need careful packaging and some
UPX compression to fit in the BA's 32mb ROM
Even if the WM6 applications and features could be persuaded to run in the existing WM5 kernel, the result could never be really called "WM6".
Without a proper kernel for BA, I doubt it's really worth the effort.
So we all wait for the right kernel, then thing's done. Think that It's gonna be available someday.
That seems im? Possible.
Why?
Some members already try to tell this
bastard reality but it's true.
Core system = kernel structure
must be emulate to BA's H/W.
The kernel softwares especially written for which device will use it.
but we forget a point!
All of Windows Mobile OS's had a SDK
and they have flexible content.
What i mean?
We have 2 problems.
1- Hardware compatibility.
(Drivers and device functions management )
2- OS infrastructure
(Device based shell and kernel api management.)
Explanation:
1-We're already know all of PocketPC devices had different hardwares. We must make or find or emulate current drivers to our BA...
How?
Too hard... it's an engineer work.
Assembly and C knowledge necessary.
But we have a key:
Every Windows Mobile OS kernel versions
written in same way. May we can use
old drivers? may anyone can emulate them.
2-OS integration and device management structure with shell and kernel api's.
Windows OS's allways use API system with 2 types.
1) Shell api ( Interface )
That used for visual and non-visual OS functions. like DirectX api's.
2) Kernel api (Core system)
To use device funcitons,
accesing Processor, RAM, ROM and
others.
Some Windows mobile versions had same hardwares but they managed
with different API's
Why?
I don't know...
what we need?
We must emulate this API's?
How?
Not hard as first problem but not easy too...
I think there is one way.
We try to hardluck, remake and convert old API's to the new ones.
This is illegal and outlaw. Goes to reverse engineering and Bill gates will angry...
Yes that is impossible as first one.
Windows Mobile 5 OS's can be port but at this time no one have so much information about WM6 kernel and shell systemand nobody did make an explanation about WM6 SDK how it's works.
This comments mixed with what i've earned from internet.
If you don't understand...
Think so as;
is Windows98 have transparency windows?
is Windows XP have 3D desktop? or AURA interface?
I CAN SAY CLEARLY:
This is impossible just yet,
may be next times but not at now.
Note: Universal and BA uses smiliar hw than others.
THANKS.
When will crossbow actually be realeased in final version (leaked or non leaked, but a stable version)?(I know we can't tell whether it will be leaked or not!)

Can any Kaiser veterans suggest some software?

Hi.
I have a HTC TyTN II and would love to nail down what software I should use, and if any of you pros could help me out I would really appreciate it.
My goal is to run the latest [stable/fast] Windows mobile 6.5 release with the highest functioning Android build on top.
From what i've seen my choice is this ROM: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618767 - ahmedfikry wm6.5 light rom v28217
From the thread it seems there aren't any glaring bugs. This is the latest WM build correct? What is the difference between the 23XXX and 28XXX branches of WM 6.5?
I notice it's a 'light' build which is fine - can you suggest any 'must have' or 'replacement' apps that would improve usability? EG; TouchFLO, a utility to access more settings, a replacement browser[Skyfire/Opera], a utility that automatically closes open programs, program to save battery life - anything like that - I want to avoid 'bloat' like some 'loaded' ROMs have and not have useless duplicate programs, speed and usability is preferred over eye candy [the exception being any great games that run on kaiser ]
Any suggestion on a GPS software that does not require a data plan? I may be limited since i only have a 2GB SD card.
And as far as ANDROID goes I believe i'm looking at the DONUT builds since I want sleep/camera/wifi (don't care about bluetooth) - [is DONUT the build with the most functions?] - which is the 'fastest' / 'lightest' of the DONUT builds that still has the highest amount of features working?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=587116 - Hero blend?

I apologize in advance if any of my questions were very nooblike, but thank you for your patience!
Moved as not ROM Development.
Thank you for moving my thread to the appropriate subforum, I had posted in the ROM section as I had assumed that most cooks and those familiar with ROM quirks would be browsing that section and be able to answer the questions I had.
This ties in loosely with what I was going to ask, so I'll reply as well. I just inherited a TyTn II from work, needed constant recalibration so I don't know if it has a hardware or a software fault. Software is easier to fix, I just want to throw on a base package with a good app selection. My ideal is to keep it as fast as it can be.
As I understand it, the Kaiser/TyTn II doesn't have enough grunt to run WiMo 6.5 OR Android 2.1 at an acceptable level. Is this correct? From what I have seen, all the cool stuff doesn't yet work on Android, any version. If I wanted to develop for the project, then I'd put Android on, but I want my phone to "just work"... well, as well as a WiMo phone can.
I'm willing to accept WiMo 6.1, maybe with skinning, etc.. heck it's a free phone, just needs a battery, stylus, and maybe a new digitizer and interpreter board(whatever that bit is called). For me and what I do, I'd be after the following stuff:
video/audio player
SSH/PuTTy type shell access
RDP/VNC
GPS mapping, turn by turn stuff
Facebook/Twitter integration/applications
Don't know if any/all of this stuff is included in any of the baked ROM's out there... Have I just missed a nice table of each available ROM, and what it has to offer?
Does Win6.5 / Android really take more horse power?
If so I may consider the latest 'official' 6.1 ROM - but i was hoping that 6.5 actually would be optimized/improved for performance over 6.1.
Here is the deal with WM 6.5 and Android. The Kaiser is an old phone, 2+ years since release, but that translates to 10+ in phone years. There are no " official upgrades " nor will there be. The Kaiser was left behind by the Raphael and even more now by the Rhodium.
All the 6.5 and Android roms on this site are all " cooked " (hacked ) roms , cooked up by various chefs here at XDA. They have taken dumped roms from other phones and have taken out the crap and have added better features . They are faster by virtue of less carrier and HTC crap in them. But they are still " hacked " versions and need to be considered beta versions.
First your phone has to be unlocked and Spl'd. " Jailbroken " if that iis a more familiar term. And then reflashed with the rom of your choice.
Android will not run on the Kaiser, a hacked version must be run off of a partitioned SD card and on top of WM, so naturally it runs a a high resource cost and very tenuously at best.
There are some very nice, fast and stable roms out there to run after you have unlocked your phone, that blow the doors off of any " official " rom. Check the rom dev page for roms with features and looks that interest you. And check peoples signatures for what people are running.
I use stylez black v4 for my everyday rom and jjblasters 6.5 rom when I want to run a " hey look at me and my cool 6.5.3 rom running on a Kaiser " rom
My TyTN II is an unlocked version (from Taiwan) - and i've already experimented with flashing ROM's successfully - just looking what software to choose for my 'final build'
It was my impression that ANDROID didn't run on TOP of WM but was bootloaded from within WM and afterwards WM would be closed? Is this incorrect?
What is the difference between the 23XXX and 28XXX branches of WM 6.5?
Any popular or recommended 'lite' UC packs?

Hey, I can confirm that the 1.6 build is stable and working wine, and yes it boots from the sd card. I have a class 4 card 2gb and it is quite smooth, but they do recommend a class 6 card. So for me there is no performance issue.
As to the wm 6.5 question: I have ahmedfikry's light rom with Opera added, and it is smooth, fast, nice and all that jazz. No worries, the difference between 23xxx and 28xxx i do not know.
Best of luck, much fun to be had.

Regarding the abouve question - so I think I am going to 'SD' install Android Polymod 'on top' of ahmedfikry wm6.5 [unless you suggest another ROM meeting my needs] (I don't want to NAND Android until all the features I want are working flawlessly)
There is no speed difference in OS operation between SD an NAND install besides initial boot time correct?
How would you choose to switch between the OS when you have WinMo + an SD Android Installation?
And again any recommendations for a nice UCPack that won't sacrifice any speed / add duplicate functionality bloat?
I've been doing nothing but testing different roms and androids for my Kaiser for the past few days.
Ive also tried both SD and NAND install of Android (polymod).
But I must say that it runs much faster on NAND than SD. (Dunno if my SD card is just slow or not. 4 gb.)
Right now I am using HyperDragon 6.5, Im quite impressed by it.
(This is for all android builds I could find: )
But I do indeed enjoy Android more, but I got some big problems with it.
The battery was drained so much quicker + didn't show real battery status.
And I had various luck dialing. Sometimes it just wouldn't work, which was why I changed back to Winmo.
I haven't tested polymod 2.1d on sd, but its 2x faster with polymod 2.1d on nand than polymod 2.1g on SD.
The one who performed best was Warm Donut, but lacked some stuff.
The battery time was about the same with power savings on. Poor.
Lacking the ability to dial with Android made me change, but I enjoy the OS more than WinMo.
My next phone will be with Android, but thats going to take some time.
hello aznphatb0i
thanks for your message
Kaiser can run wm 6.5 great after being "unlocked" to flash cooked roms
my roms here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618767
i keep cooking the newest & update the links there
are the newest from COM 5 branch with finger friendly user interface (larger bottom bar with start flag on bottom left)
latest now is 23563
there are other COM branchs out there, but i do not cook them, some cause bugs..others from COM2 are new with small bottom bar (older look) but i do not cook them because i like the interface of COM 5 better
My roms are "light" to be fastest & allow most free space.. all additional applications to be added by cabs according to user prefernce
all the links for the cabs & what they do are in the first post in my thread
as for GPS, i use TOM TOM & iGo 8 ...both run fine & loaded on 2 GB card
I do not have much to say about Android, i like windows OS...when Andriod is perfected later I may consider looking into it
if you like my work & appreciate the time & effort i put into this...please DONATE by clicking the link below in my signature
hope this helps

Help with crooked rom need a good stable wm6.5 rom

hey guys my names marc and im pretty much completely new to flashing cooked roms. ive flash oem roms on my tilt before but when it comes to trying to find a good crooked rom or even really just how to do it correctly without bricking my phone im at a lost. Reading all the stuff is starting to make it highly confusing lol. Im really just trying to find a good stable wm 6.5 rom maybe with a couple tweaks for my phone bc im so tired of this basic 6.1 i have on my phone right now with all the gayness that insuades from it with all the bugs and lags. If any of you guys could help that would be awesome. Please help im
So you're saying that the step by step guide is too hard for you to use?
I'm not sure how someone else can help you better, 7 steps aren't that many. I would suggest you not even try to flash roms on this phone if the below link is too difficult to use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
I've only tried a few cooked ROMs with my new (only slightly used by previous owner) Kaiser, but flashed quite a few onto my Elfin, and those experiences give me a good sense of when a WM phone is 'happy' and when it's not. I've settled on following development by ahmedfikry, as his bare-bones WM6.5.3 ROM are really snappy in response, and allow a lot of flexibility for the user to install, or not, any software into main memory (Windows folder) they like. Installing to that folder, rather than the usual \Program Files or onto microSD, is preferable to maintain smooth operation for some kinds of programs, especially important for Today plugins and system enhancing plugins such as SPB shell stuff, etc. Using his fairly simple guide, I found it dead easy to flash. The only hesitation I had was in selecting from the sometimes un-described enhancement CABs in his XDA_UC folder (placed in the microSD root directory, installed automagically on first boot after flashing without any user initiation), as being new to the Kaiser I was not yet familiar with some of these. But there seems nothing overly difficult there, just a bit of research perhaps. I'll tweak my selections further next time I have a few hours to flash and manually customize per my preferences.
His ROM thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618767
I really do highly recommend this version. I need my phone every day for work, and cannot afford a buggy ROM or I'd annoy customers too much. My Elfin sort of kind of died, so the Kaiser is it for me. With this ROM my Kaiser is happy. Next flash, I'll be putting a host of my long time favourite apps into that UC folder, as the Kaiser has plenty of main memory I otherwise don't use.
hey thanks "GerardSamija" yeah i use my tilt for pretty much the same deal. my phoneis my job pretty much i use it to keep up contacts through and make many business related calls and such. so exactilly what i was looking for is rom without to much bloatware and wasnt buggy or laggy so this seems to be a good fit thanks again

Android as primary OS?

Guys i thought i would start a thread to discuss the possibilities of creating an android rom or the possibilty replacing winmo as the primary os.
i know the current build for x1 is buggy, however the x1 is an outdate device now, i own one only as a testing device for my winmo programming. therefore i cant see why we cant have fun with it...
anyone with thoughts, or references welcome. i have a bit of free time coming up so im looking to jump on the x1 - android bandwagon!
I think more important for now is create krenel that contains all hardware configuration (working WiFi, BT, Camera, GPS, turn off LCD, fast working etc. ) if it will be fulfilled it is possible to think about create android rom

You're absolutely right. But ... who would flash his phone with a rom, which can't use the speaker for ringtones and which drains the battery.
I agree with vdelf - as soon as we see a working kernel worth for daily use, we might look into the issue of flashing android rom.
Bluetooth, GPS and Camera still not working for many htc devices. However, sound, ringtone is of highest requests for X1
I am with _Sensible on this one (not the "outdated"-part ). Android is not ready for primary OS on the X1, but it is not that far away. Why not start to create a rom? IMHO that will take some time, too. And that way we do not have to wait for a rom when the kernel is ready
If speaker and screen issues will solve then may try to cook android rom

I would....
but then again I do have two xperia's so it wont matter if one isn't working properly.
btw this would be a nice time to stop talking about why and start talking about how.
maybe the knowledge can be found in the tp2 forum again....?
thanks for all your thoughts guys. i realise a flashable rom isnt a priority but i was thinking along the lines of vdelf. if we start this development now it may tie in nicely with a functional kernel.
in terms of how to do it...
1. binary image written via a 'flasher' app etc etc.
2. I wonder if we can install an os via android-through-haret? like the install option from an ubuntu live cd?
like i said, i have some free time soon so will do some R+D.
I hope so for that Android ROM .

same here - im sick of winmo glitches and problems, been reading alot about this project and i hope that all the x1 hardware works on it.
I'm looking forward for rom too. But not because of WM glitches, but because android will extend life of xperia. WM6.5 is dying os. Most software from actual companies is either for Android or iPhone (and probably for WP7S soon), apps for WM6.5.x and older are becoming rare.
I would really like to see actual rom, but i think you should put priorities on power managemnet, brigthness and sound. I can live with haret until then
Anyone have experience using the fastboot bootloader / recovery options for android roms?

oh yaaa man me to wud love an android rom it wud be awesome plz work on this hope to see a android rom soon man
@Reversedhex,
Yes, a ROM can be cooked and I don't see why the RUU utility couldnt be used either
I will have a play - I believe this has already been done on the HTC Vogue...
Tinboot is also a possibilty...
Ok,
Ive been looking into this, I reckon the best way to do is to jump on the back of the 'tinboot' bootlader developed on this forum. So far Its only been ported to the Kaiser....however with a bit of R&D it shouldnt be too hard to port to kovsky.
Please check it out
git://androidhtc.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/androidhtc/tinboot
Oh, I dont suppose anyone has a kovsky nand dump lying around? Or info on the tables?
Well, you know, it 'kinda' works. I've even made a video. But we need to fix panel initialisation (or it's more likely that i've simply messed something up). You can watch. After hanging on the SE logo, it makes two vibrations and the screen covers with strange pattern which means the kernel does start. Maybe i'll work on it later.

[Q] Benefits of Android on Topaz

Guys,
Let me ask a stupid question... In short and simple words, what are the benefits of replacing windows mobile by Android on a Topaz? Is the device faster? Does this improve the autonomy? Or is it only a scientist interests having an hardware designed for windows working with Android?
Your answer may help me to take the decision to test...
Thanks.
Well Heres a quick Answer
Hey, I'm new here too...
1.) You won't be replacing windows at all.
2.) There won't be a full fledge ROM (replacement for windows) at any point in the near future.
3.) Its nice for apps or general funtime but the phone lasts maybe 50% as long as far as battery life if used normally and most GPS functionality is gone. (crashes phone)
4.) there are a few bugs but that is expected.
5.) Don't let the bugs keep you from trying it out. It may not run as fast or faster than your WinMo but it does have far better features.
P.S. It is at your own risk however to run Android on your phone. I haven;t heard of any issues with bricking phones and in most cases you have little to worry about, plus this Forum has a lot of information to help with such situations, but the possiblity of damage to hardware due to stress or other reasons is still there,

The reason for me to use it on Topaz is for the applications on Android...
Many of them are not available on WinMo 6

Have to agree with that! Android apps are not as good as iPhone one's (I'm no fan boy thou ), but many of them are free and are fun Another point is that you are able to change your home-screen by better ones. In WinMo opportunities are little, but in Android you have Launcher Pro, etc. Love the theming of Android
just an neat alternative to winmo
android mail app is much more convenient, and so are a lot of apps
camera and video recording is slow and not so nice, even on the crappy side.
gaming much more interesting
interface is different but fun and easy
no gps...
no bt..
no usb mass storage or connection...
the device is a tad slower, and tent to be unstable with xandroid, but doable( oc to 650..)
its newer, winmo has a lot of apps, but android is newer
android is google, so all your personal stuff will be used( less with winmo)
ms is still making money on android, so don't be deluded
all in all, its(gb) running good enough to keep it running for daily use.
kinda like android, can't wait for the TD2 Xand rom to appear.
THere is no way to replace winmo on Topaz like HTC HD2 ?
Running xdanroid on sdcard is very slow

Are all the applications on Android available for the diamond 2 which has android?
it is not that slow. The TD2 is not running a snapdragon. Though some racegames tested run fast enough. Most apps seem to run on GB aswell.
.. send from.. xdandroid..
