Use an Android phone as headset - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've been searching if there's any app for using an android phone as a headset when paired to a computer. That would be useful for using a phone when talking with Skype on a computer since Android's Skype doesn't allow IP calls.
Thanks!

This is something I would be very interested in as well. I always figured it would involve adding the device as a bluetooth audio device... but it has never worked out for me. I guess you need the bluetooth on the phone to know what it is supposed to do (maybe an app or something.)
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Any news?

Here's a superior solution:
ditch the inferior Skrap and use a proper SIP provider for VoIP. The application you are looking for to use this is SIPDROID.

Newbie: Skype over phone instead of speaker

Hello
I just installed Skype for smartphones on my new S730 and the connection works like a charm. However, so far the sound is only played over the phone's loudspeaker. Is there a way to change that, so I can skype using the S730 like a normal phone?
Thanks.
Rob
Currently it's not possible. When calling with Skype, just turn round the phone.
use headphones
I have another question. Is there a way to use Bluetooth handsfree with skype. When i connect my bluetooth handsfree and make call over skype, the sound come from loadspeekers. Works only with wired (headphones) handsfree.
The "issue" is that the API [for sound output] used for VoIP is the same as the Windows Mobile OS (like media player, ringers...) use; not the same the phone uses.
thanks for the answers, guys!
that sucks! any hope this will get resolved sometime soon?
cheers!
rob
Oh, I don't think its solved "soon". Or somewhere in the future. I have had a qtek 2020i and already in those ancient days, I had the problem that it was not possible to use a BT-headset for voip-connections.
For the 730:
Whats about using a stereo-bluetooth headset? Its made only for listening music?!
So, could work for voip/skype too?!?

I suppose that would work, depending on which API VoIP uses to output sound. If it is the same that music uses, then yes, it would work. I'm going to guess it is since wired the stereo headphones work.

[Q] route calls and texts to tab via bluetooth?

Are there any apps out there for android that allow you to connect your phone via bluetooth to the tablet and have any calls or texts get routed to the tab just like most car bluetooth systems do? Would love to have the tab replace the entire car system. Nav and music is great but this would put it over the top!!
I know it isn't exactly what you're looking for, but if your tab has a cell number you can always configure your phone to forward texts to it...
You want yo use the tab as a bluetooth car-kit?
Neat idea
I just bought a new car stereo that had bluetooth. Now my music, nav directions and calls go through my car speakers

Can do that pretty easy but what I want is the Tab to be the head unit and pull the calls and texts from the droid phone. The tab is a way cooler and programmer friendly device than any stereo head unit. If someone could point me to any exampls of accessing the bluetooth stack I may find the time to dig in to it myself.
OHH man, i work for Vodafone NZ, and I've been playing with the tab for a few days now. IT IS AWESOME. I have been trying to find a solution to this exact thing. I would love to have the TAB and another android phone (prob galaxy 580) but only have one number, when i'm using the tab i want call and txt to go to there, when I'm not i want to use the phone... get back to me if you have any ideas, i know you can route 3G connection... thats a start...
Food for Though
One more note: is Bluetooth the best option? The tab also has WIFI....?
What does the new blackberry play-book use to connect the blackberry phone? They can reportedly do this exact thing....
Textab
Found Textab after hours of google only works for text messages... can be found on the market here's is the link to the creator http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-apps/6931-textab-sms-send-sms-through-your-android-phone-via-your-android-tablet.html
i wish i could find something like the "BlackBerry Bridge" for our android devices would be awesome
I just posted this about TexTab and our Tab 7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191822
There is a link in that thread to the point in the developer's thread where I discuss it... and today I posted screenshots in the developer's thread as well.

I would pay for an app like that. Essentially it would be exactly as you stated, an app that makes your tab function like a car head unit, or bluetooth headset, having the ability to control your phones call functions and media controls. With the added ability to send and receive text messages.
I remember back in the day someone showed me a program on a PocketPC (may have been an iPAQ) that had SIM card access over bluetooth, depending on the bluetooth stack on the phone it should have been able to control phone calls over bluetooth.
Would love to see something like this on the SGT.
SyncSMS
Textab. From Samsung apps seems to work OK. It's sounds like its should be better/more fun than it really ends up being IMO but its a cool "LAN party" trick geek style

Desperately looking for this too!!
I actually more interested in being able to make and receive calls from my tablet so I can leave my phone in my pocket or backpack while using the tab, I would definetly pay for this app!!
Search tablet talk on the google play store

[Q] Android Tablet as bluetooth headset?

Leave phone in pocket.

take phone calls though galaxy tab hardwired into car audio system with external mic.
possible?

I use Plantronics Bluetooth ear piece, works great, also there is a free app that allows for ALL audio from the SGT to be forced out the BT.
agreed very much possible. BT headset im using is Hisense HB200S connected to 2 of my phones at the same time.
Not really what I was thinking of. I'm saying use the tablet as a bluetooth headset. So when i jump in the car phone calls are automatically routed from my phone into the tablet which is hooked up to the audio system of my car.
so it would essentially function as a really nice car stereo but have all the added functionality of a android tablet.
data through bluetooth would be super awesome, but this is kinda shooting for the stars.
Did you find any solution?
UP
I'd love to see this too. Basically have sms and calling features on my tab, going through my phone via bluetooth.
anybody found a solution?
i have a carpc an since androidX86 (4.0.3) is out it would be great to use this as bluetooth handsfree.
i agree

I 100% agree, I need this feature as well. We clearly are not the only ones. This essentially is centered around someone with development skills using the Bluetooth Headset Profile to have the tablet show up as bluetooth headset or handsfree to the phone.
With that it'd be great for it to pull contacts (if you dont sync contacts with google), receive texts, receive calls, dial, voice dial, etc. Out of all those, i really just want to be able to receive calls and have them routed to the tab. Everything else is a bonus.
Should we start a bounty?
Let's do..whatever, to make this happen! I would pay!
Pioneer navigation in my car can do it but I want to replace it with android. This is the only reason why I can't do it.
Closest thing i've been able to do for this is my phone is connected via bluetooth to my cars head unit. My tablet it mounted and connected to the head unit with 1/8" - 1/8" This way i can use my tablet for music and navigation and if i get a call my system will auto switch over for the call.

thanks for that info, but in my case I won't have a headunit to act as the "middleman". we really need the option of the tablet itself being able to exploit the Bluetooth handsfree profile

Tablet Talk 1.3.3.1 was released on 4/15 with a Call Sharing option over Bluetooth or Wifi. The feature is still in beta, but from my limited usage in the past 2 days, it seems like a viable solution to this problem. The app can be found in the market with a reasonable price tag of $2.99. For those of you looking for a carputer solution - you found it.
i actually use Tablet Talk and fully support that developer for his work, BUT the call answering feature requires either the phones speaker phone to be on or a bluetooth handsfree kit or bluetooth headset in order to work. It's not the same as the subject of this thread but it is the closest we have so far.
I've been in talks with him and he's still working on the BT stack in his spare time but makes no promises that it'll work or make it into his app.
Hi,
i 'm looking for the same possibilities, but from my iphone=>Tab=>Car-audio
TabletTalk doesn't work with iphone
What would be great is a full application on the Tab with Dialing, Contact List from the phone, the same as every caraudio BT sold nowadays...
I don't understand why it 's link to the Phone OS, because a Pioneer Car Audio BT doesn't care if it s a BB, Nokia, iphone, or an android phone : it's just A2DP/Handset server mode...
I succeeded in sharing my iphone music librairie and 3G to the tab, there 's only the phone part left :/
correction, i can't acces my iphone music lib from the tablett
i can only acces to a itune on a PC, but not directly to the iphone
I don't understand why there is no Car Audio App available, the developer would be rich !
Thank you guys, I've been looking for this for my – project for some time. Can't wait to try it out this weekend.
Sent from my highly modified HTC Rezound using Tapa 2. Yes, Swype misspelled something above.
I'm also on the hunt for the same thing, please report back if anyone finds a solution.
Same here i have been wanting to do this but with my cheap pos phone
Lg VX9200 has bluetooth and works fine with my headphones with music and calls
Android only sees it as a internet source i just want to use my tablet as a speaker phone with a big key pad
Or maybe even use google contacts and have it dial my phone
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Bump to keep this thread going I'll be attempting something similar in the future
This would be amazing, but unfortunately the tablet talk app will not work because it requires your car audio to be wired through your phone which would defeat the purpose. I hope the tablet talk developers can figure something out!

[Q] Lumia 930 - No Voice Guidance in Here Drive

I picked up a Lumia 930 over the weekend and so far I'm loving device, except for 1 small issue. I'm not getting any voice guidance at all in Here Drive. I get the speeding warning tone just fine, but no voice guidance at all from either the device or over my car's BT connection.
Everything else comes over the BT connection fine... Cortana's voice, music, phone calls... Just no voice guidance...
Anyone come across that at all?

Did you actually downloaded any voice guidance in settings, as by default it's set to "none" , though on first start the program asks to download voice an maps, maybe you omitted this step ?
Yes, as I just said above you. Of course I downloaded the voice, both UK English voices, in fact. I'm not a dummy.
I can get voice guidance from other apps, just not Here Drive, which is annoying.
There's also another issue, which is WP's fault and bloody annoying. No control over the individual BT profiles, so I can't shut off the regular BT Audio profile (I don't want voice guidance or music to cut off my car stereo, just phone calls). It's the one big thing about WP that annoys the hell out of me.

Yes, makes no difference. There's no voice guidance. It's not a corrupt voice causing the issue, it's something else.

If i recall corectly ( as at the moment i can't test) there is a Driving Mode in the phone's settings, and you need to turn it ON .
Also you may want to take a look HERE for some more useful information on Here navigation features.

Ah HA!! Thank you for that link! Looks like it identifies the issue. I'd only tested it on my drive to/from work, and apparently, it doesn't use voice guidance for My Commute routes. I shall test that out next time I'm in the car.
It would have been nice if there was somewhere on the bleedin' phone that -told- you that, though!
Oh well, at least that's answered... Now, if anyone can tell me how I can control the BT profiles, I'll be completely happy!

Nope, there's no capability to disable specific profiles for specific devices. Android's been able to do this for years, but not WP, it seems.

Indeed...for now it's impossible to set different profiles for different devices, maybe in a future update, as of lately Microsoft has been pushing updates at a really fast pace.

How to cancel bluetooth to use two phones in Android car

I wanted to share how to solve the problem of using bluetooth on a second phone having another mobile already connected to Android car.
The easiest solution would be to use a duplicate of the Sim card, but in my case my telephone company does not have that service and cannot be hired.
As you know, at the moment that a mobile phone connects to Android car, it no longer allows us to pair a second phone and use it to make calls via bluetooth, forcing us if we want to make calls to use the one that is connected by USB to Android car.
Well, using an application we can disable the sharing services by bluetooh and thus be able to use the 2nd phone. The negative part is that it is necessary that the mobile is broken.
The name of the application is: Service Disabler https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.rootservicedisabler&hl=en
“IT DOES NOT HAVE THE PHONE WITH ROOT”
To deactivate all the services of sharing via bluetooth is easy, we open the application and type the word bluetooth in the search area and it will already be in the list, and now it is just click on it and we will leave the option to deactivate everything.
From this moment on, all audio from the connected phone will be through USB.

This isn't really an Android Auto issue. But I understand a workaround may be useful if you have a headunit with this limitation.
How many phones can be connected depends on the headunit. My Kenwood will allow two phones to be connected and both can answer and make calls. Usually, I have my Pixel connected via AA, and my wife's iPhone will connect via Bluetooth at the same time. I can even select Bluetooth on the headunit and play music from the iPhone. In fact, although only two phones can be connected for calls, it will allow up to 5 phones to be connected at the same time for music (I've never tried that many, though).

Most cars have this problem. I think is very useful, i will implement it. It may be easiest solution. Phone has root to work mirroring so, probably with freeze bluetooth with titanium, could have the same, but havent try it yet..
