I searched these forums but could not find anything. Has anyone developed a way to print documents from inside android? Or anyone know of a creative way to accomplish this?
Thanks.
It might be possible to do it from debian using cups but not you can't do it natively yet.

Wouldn't this be possible through Telnet? (That is if you were on a WiFi with a networked printer)
Through the network it is def possible.
I don't know an app that supports it yet though.
However, it should be easy enough.

Couldn't you just use Telnet Net Print?
True but i don't think the g1's telnet supports it.
If someone is willing to give it a go this should help:
http://www.pragmasys.com/TelnetServer/WebHelp/html/TelnetD_Printing_Support.htm
Of course you will need the printer to be connected to a computer thats in your network.
Thank you for the link. It looks like a start. My dad wants to run part of his business from an Android phone and wants to be able to print receipts and tickets while on the go.

Do you mean print them to a small printer or something that he carries around with him, or something like print them to a network enabled printer that he has installed in his office? The former is going to be difficult/impossible without a laptop or something. The latter will still be hard, but should be do-able at least.

Actually I think he wants to be able to do both. I told him its not likely until some future product comes out aimed for Android. They have wifi and bluetooth printers so I guess its just a matter of time until someone develops the software. Everything else right now is too much of a hack to be useful for him.
Hell yeah, i want to get ride of my laptop and print emails from my G1, any update on this topic?

Printing From Android
I have also been searching the forums and marketplace for an application to print docs, pdf and spreasheets to a mobile printer, like hp 470 officejet. The couple of applications that I have seen isolated to their application and require print to a Network or something on the notebook. I want to print from Android directly to a mobile printer. If anyone knows of an existing app or someone that is in the process and needs someone to test, I am very interested and this would be for multiple sales. I have looked at printer share and spoken with send 2 printer.
Thanks
Just download printershare from the market. Amazing what you find if you type printer into the market search
Thank Shadow

Printer share does not print via bluetooth, does not print email attachments, needs wifi or network, Its pretty narrow. I did not dig real deep because the no bluetooth printing was a bummer. I spoke with them and Print 2 go. I thought I said this in my question but maybe I forgot. Both of those are good products however. Sooner or later there will be something more universal.
I want to go hard core. If market search found something for me I would not be looking on here. I search that every two minutes
But Thanks,

Anyone think of something like this for the android?
This would be awesome.
Looks like the name should be "I Don't Trust".
"Why do you have your screen locked? What are you hiding? "
Delete anything you don't want seen!!!!!
A better name for the app is iCheat LOL
Or maybe, iTiger.
App is pretty useless... the youtube video shows the WORLD how it works. If someone who's not an idiot tries it... they'd probably try the Home button and ruin the whole trick. A waste of a dollar if you ask me.
Plus I don't need anything like that. If you REALLY don't want her (or anyone else) to see what's going on, turn on the lockscreen! (and wipe your greasy prints off it after you unlock)
Lol Why not make it the lock screen and hit menu 3 times ad you can put in password there.
My girl already knows whats on my phone lol so doesnt really matter, use it on other people that are trying to look on myphone
if you have to do this you clearly shouldn't be in a relationship as you aren't adult enough to understand the commitment involved...
worse, if your girlfriend can't figure out how to hit the home button again, she is a dumb as a bag of bricks and you shouldn't be with her...

Not saying I need it, but pretty sure there are plenty of people that play the field out there and dont want to get in trouble. But yet again this isnt the iphone and no home key to go back, so making it the lock screen makes it a win situtation lol
And say per say you have pics of your gf on you phone and your friend trys to get on there or say a family member is looking around on your phone, dont want them to some how come along it...

Enable the lock screen. Any app that only requires anyone to hit the "home" button to circumvent is pretty useless.

also a valid point, but i generally fear having anything of my wife on my phone. I keep those in my email account and know how to find them when i need to, LOL
nothing on my phone is unprotected unless i don't care who sees it...

Wow
What's with all the haters? HAHA I thought that was pretty beast mode when I watched it. I even showed me sister and she thought it was awesome. I would use this just for the LULZ of seeing what your friends try to do. And for the comment of "They will just press the home button and pass it and ruin the trick", You can still see the log before the hit the home button again so you can still see what they tried to go to. If anything, this app would be beast mode for seeing what your friends try to go to and open behind your back LOL xD

Lol emails are not safe either.
But its not the fact of hiding anything from them like my gf knows whats on my phone so I really dont care if she sees what on there. And with the thing being just go home and you are back to the home screen, thats why you make it like a lockscreen, And like how the Hide & Seek app on there to hide pics it acts like a flash light then press Menu 3 times and it brings up a password field and you can get to the screen with options.
But this app can be used for more then just hiding thing from spouses. its the funny factor behind it which is good, Because if someone lies to you about doing something on your phone you can be like it just recorded everything you clicked on so how are you going to lie to me about it

I haven't found anything yet to satisfy this requirement so I'm asking for re-inforcement here. My requirements are:
1) Install a client on my kids PC that will be password protected so that it can't be uninstalled and which will allow the following:
2) Allow administration tool both on PC and Android device to remotely view the state of the PC (ON/OFF) and what it currently does (specific website visited, application being used, etc.) as well as to remotely shutdown and view screenshot.
3) I want this to be accessible not only from LAN (like netsupport) but also from Internet via 3G.
So far, I haven't found anything to satisfy this requirement. If anyone knows of any tool to do this well, it's more that welcome to recommend.
Why not just setup a keylogger and have the logs sent directly to your phone's email, granted it won't give you the access you want but everything will be visible.

Thanks.
I don'r need that kind of control. I only need to know if the PC is ON and be able to swtch it OFF remotely when I want and just know what my son is doing at that time. i.e. playing games, watching youtube videos, etc.
I have used similar tools but none of them can provide all the requirements in one tool.
I have used OpenDNS and Norton Family online to control his hours and allowed sites to visit but I can't do the rest. I believe there must be an application like that because what I ask is simple and there are more complex tools available already.
So TeamViewer is what you need.
alternatively you could stop playing stalin to your kids

How old are you? do you have kids? I bet not otherwise you wouldn't think like that. When you do have kids you'll want to control the time they spent on the computer as well as the sites they visit and it's not a metter of playing Stalin or the diictator. It's a matter of manipulating their habbits and discipline.
However, that's another story and everyone can have their opinion so let's not discuss this here because it will be a non-ending story of social nature and other people here are not interested.

Hi andreasy. I have an 3 years old little girl and I know that one day I'll need a kind of control of this. I'm planning to have a small linux proxy on my home net to block sites by hour/user/blacklist etc... but, I'm a Net. Admin and it's a simple job (to me).
Maybe you are searching on wrong places. Or you want a not yet developed software.
I'll do a little research to see if i can find anything abou this.

Well I am a systems engineer as well and I was also thinking the gateway thing, but then I decided that I don't want an extra device in my home for this. Anyway, I solved the parental (inapropriate content) issue with OpenDNS and Norton family (Try them, they are free) and I was also considering Child Control which I evaluated in the past and it's quite cheap to buy. Now my only issue is that my son abuses the time policy and finds ways to bypass Norton Family rules.
Anyway, I guess the truth is your second point. "not yet developed software."
Thanks anyway.
I'll live with some scripts I wrote then which I'll have to make better.
i guess this might help u http://softwareforme.com/?page_id=6
I was wondering if anyone is aware of any World Building Apps for the Xoom. Preferably one that I could sync with an application on my PC, but it isn't required.
My specific use would be for creating a world for a story I am writing. Although I could think of a few other uses as well
@Mythico: I know it may be obvious to you, but most of us have no idea what game/system you are talking about.
World builder as in Minecraft I guess.

I am actually not refering to any game/system. I am looking for a generic world builder. I am writing a story for a book and would like to find some tool to assist/layout the world I am creating.
If there isn't a generic one then I am fine using that is designed for a specific game even though I have no intentions of using it for said game. It doesn't need to be to detailed. I am more using it for a rough sketch/reference point.
Do you have an example of the type of software you're referring to on another platform?
First thing I thought when I saw the title was how much I want SimCity on this tablet.

Unfortunatly I don't have any example as I have had troubles finding something for my PC/Mac. I mean I could technicially could use paint, but would prefer something a tad more complex then that
It doesn't need to show elevations or be 3d or anything like that. Although if it is something complex it is welcomed. I just want something to be able to tell this is where a house, castle, mountains,or forest is. So that I try and rough idea of the layout of the world. That and so I don't send a character into a forest that doesn't exist.

I've never heard or seen of such a thing, and as a prolific amature writer, I've never considered the need for such a thing either. I either visualise my fictional world in my head, or I make notes.
Try pen and paper. Sometimes, technology gets in the way, y'know?

It is what I do now. I normally just make a mental note or if need be a physical note somewhere. It just got me wondering if there was an application that could allow you to layout everything. Sounds like I may be stuck the old fashion way. Plus as you said sometimes it can get in the way hehe

You are at WORK. They are paying you to work, not to fu*k around with your phone. I used to have a colleague who played around with his phone at work while the rest of us actually did his job - he didn't last for long.

Did you even bother to actually read to OP and the thread, or did you just read a couple of words and decided to post this pointless answer?
If the OP's company blocks hosting sites, TOR installers etc then I don't think simply trying to use https will acheive anything - do you?
ever try underget.com? I worked for me for a few weeks, until one day I tried it, and was blocked.
I was in a similar situation. I feel if my job is done, I should be able to relax *a little*.
I know employers will never agree, and that we should be helping others who cant finish their jobs, or go clean the office, etc..
You can always upgrade your mobile data plan, and download from your phone/device. Is there a free (unblocked)wifi in the area you could utilize?
happy hacking... I can relate. I used to have a virtual machine running ubuntu, building kernels in my free time.
If you change your OP to: how to get to blocked sites so I can develop Sooper Awesome Kernel and Rom for Device XYZ, I some people would have been more inclined to help...
part of me says, yeah i should be "working", the other half says do what I feel, and I end up usually browsing the web.. and laughing my butt off to the off topic images thread... lol

That only works if the web filter is crap and the website is also running on port 443 which most don't.
OP now I'm with you, I used to work 12 hour shifts in IT at night and weekends, we used the office modem to play online games etc, and also watch DVDs.
You could talk nicely to your IT guys and see if they can make an exception for you.
Use your phone as a USB modem and download via that. If your company has blocked access to certain sites then you're risking getting sacked if you find a way to access them. Respect your company's wishes and stop trying to stumble your way around their security.
