Hello,
After 'Pure calendar' and 'Weather forecast', I am ready to create a new widget.
But I don't have any idea of 'WHAT'.
What widget really miss you ?
Conditions :
- it should NOT exist on market.
- I should be able to sell it on the market (can't sell small widget, like memory, or pictures)
- it will be free during beta testing, paid after
- winning idea will have widget for free
Winning ideas :
+++ messaging widget (gmail + SMS + email)
+++ bookmark widget with sync with mobile browser & xmarks
Remaing ideas :
++ task widget
+ dock to put more app icons into one cell
+ dialer widget
+ photo galery with flicker integration
+ power control widget
+ stock market
Ideas not developed :
- email/SMS/MMS widget >>> problem, there is no gmail API ! >>> solution found !!!!!!!!
Some kind of system montior widget would be great. ie, something that would show: CPU frequency, CPU load, swap usage, battery level, disk usage on fat + ext...
I don't know about other people, but I normally check this stuff from the terminal, so it would be nice to have a widget.

oh yeah that would be great too.
super social net widget
I would suggest an integrated Twitter/Facebook/GTalk(Jabber)/SMS-MMS widget where you can see everything in one location (maybe tab based or mixed with a label of some sort).
If tabbed, the number of new messages could be part of the tab label or added to the notification bar.
If everything shows in same window, then touching a message could either allow the user to respond or open the appropriate app.
Could be enhanced later with LinkedIn, Plaxo, etc. based on what people want.
Hummmm ... good idea an email widget.
Does it exist only on Hero now ?

Main problem with this are API.
Most API have restrictions for commercial uses... so, to use thoses API, you have to create your software as 'free'... This is not my goal.
I believe it does as I can't see it anywhere else
well it's not really a widget i'm missing. but a program to auto end and auto-start other programs at specific times would be great
so one could auto-end k-9 at 23:00, have a good night's sleep and have it autostart at 7:00 to read all the new mails...

You could try and make a bookmark widget like the one in hero

I cant really think of anything that isnt in the market. but i know of a few things that i think are in the market, but can be done better...
personally, i liked the WM 6.2 screen where you had a scrolling "widget" that you could use to place direct call shortcuts... id love to see a android version of that...
the ones out there are ok, but they arent as clean looking as the WM take on it... from what ive seen of your work, you are the person that i think could create something like what im thinking of...
the one on the hero is fine, but, i even think its a bit clunky...

I would really like to have a dialer widget. I hate the default behavior that the green call button brings up the call log instead of the dialer. In fact, I would be quite happy if the built-in dialer could be made into a widget. I imagine it would take up an entire home screen but I'm fine with that.

fluent scrolling is impossible with current SDK. You have to simulate scrolling with buttons ... not very fun.

No he can't. Just because there is no way on normal android launcher to have a scrolling widget.

Hi
Can't se this mentioned yet but just to let you know the official Twitter app is in the Market and its awesome especially on CM5.07 Twitter contact sync
Nice >Was< using twidroid, this is much nicer imo. Thanx for the post about it.
Twidroid still better. No browser, no refresh on start up. Animations are for kids.
also is only supported for 2.1 roms.
I really like it. I had been using Touiteur since it came out, but the official app is better overall and much faster at refreshing tweets.

Same here. It's also the first version so it can only get better.
Uh? No retweets with comments possible. It doesn't save the position, you always must scroll down to read the first unread tweet.
Not so very good.
What's it called anyways? As I don't see it in the Market.

I searched for 'twitter' and it came up in the results.
For a first version it is very good but as some have pointed out it's missing features that are very useful, if not almost required. Integrated browser for links, image loading without a browser or via the browser, viewing of profile images and the most important from my perspective - remembering your last position in the list.
It's very fast and the integration with 2.1 is nice, using the same mini-bar option if you push the arrow to the right of someone's tweet. However, until it has the ability to remember your list position and some form of integrated browser I'll be staying with Touiteur Premium.
Does anyone know how to clear old tweets from the timeline? I've been using the app for a few days now, and every tweet I've received during that time is still there, which creates a little sluggishness. It'd be nice to be able to clear the list every once in a while.
Can't seem to find my lists... Yes i can delete and manage them, but i can't see them. What the hell? I think ill just go back to Seesmic... Simple, fast and reliable
Is anyone else having a problem with only a small fraction of your tweets being updated in your timeline? This is what happens for me: lets say I haven't used the app all night, and in the morning when I know I have 100+ new tweets to read, when I hit refresh only ~20 tweets are updated. Then when I scroll down past those 20 latest tweets, there is a huge gap after the 20th tweet. After the 20th tweet, there is a huge jump back to the last time I hit refresh (usually 8+ hours earlier). This only happens on 1.01...it did not happen on 1.00. Anyone else?
I have looked around, and haven't found much. I'm looking for a calendar app that
has a little more kick than the android calendar. Actually, I only have a few things
wrong with the stock calendar:
-Doesn't let me add events biweekly.
-Widget isn't cool enough.
I know I can get different widgets that connect to the google calendar, so that
doesn't bother me that much. However, is there a calendar app/mod that allows
me to add events every other week? Rather than every and every third? Thanks.
pure calendar widget + adw launcher or launcher pro = scrollable calendar widget like sense UI if you like that kinda thing.
I had pure calendar widget, and I have launcher pro, and I did like it, but it doesn't solve my biweekly problem =/ (It's actually for the trash collection here. We get fined if we don't sort our garbage, so we have three bins, and one is collected every week, while the other two are collected every other week. I'm trying to keep track because I'm always forgetting)

While I can't suggest any apps (still looking for a decent calendar app that displays events nicely), you could probably add the reminder in Google Calendar, which does support biweekly schedules, and email/SMS notifications. I have a report due on Friday every week, so I've configured mine to email me 30 minutes prior, SMS 10 minutes prior, and the default Calendar app pops up an Android bar notification on my N1 about 15 minutes prior too.
Pure Grid Calendar ?

I live in a rural (ish) area. I'd have to drive a few minutes to see what other people are putting on the curb. And I'll try using the real google calender. didn't think of that.

Android Agenda Widget, yep, works awesome. And agreed; put the event in the Google Calendar web interface directly, unless you need to do this stuff all the time.
Well, even the site won't let me add an item on a biweekly basis, but that's okay. I put it in for every week, and I'll just figure it out then. As for a decent widget. I'm a minimalist. I want this widget to be 4x1 and minimal. My home screen has always been almost nothing, but I would like this to be on there.

Android Agenda Widget has every size you can imagine.. 2x2 2x3 2x4 3x1 3x2 3x3 3x4 4x1 4x2 4x3 4x4
Yes I'm seeing that. And the customizability level is intense. I think I found a winner! =D
Go to google calendar
Create event
Select repeats weekly
Repeat every ___ weeks <-------------------
Its an option after you select weekly
And +1 for agenda widget! Used it since day one and its awesome

Thanks for this. I never even clicked on weekly. Brilliant.
And I know! There's only one thing I want to change, but I don't think it can be done. But I'm happy with the the widget nonetheless =D
When you search google or any other search engine for the g-tablet, you get images of the gtab with a weather app on it... does anyone know what the hell that app is called? Is it part of tapntap? I played with it for about 10 mins before I flashed Vegan and have been trying to find a good weather/dashboard app (something that shows current weather/news/missed emails/yada yada ;D
Does anyone know? Or can you point me to a good "dashboard" app that has the features mentioned above. I'm willing to pay, doesn't have to be a freebie. I've searched the marketplace high and low and can't find anything that does that...or I'm not searching under the right tools.
Thanks in advance!
Tim
I flashed vegan right after I got mine, and I just use a set of beautiful widgets to make my homescreen the way I want it. It has time and weather, and I have a page just for facebox and twitter. No idea how to take screenshots, else I'd post a few.
That image is the "dashboard" that is the Tap'n'tap UI when not in classic mode. I've never used any of the TNT Lite ROMs which I understand are stripped down and improved versions of the Tap'n'tap ROM but I absolutely hated the stock ROM and the Tap'n'tap UI during the blissfully brief period I use it.

No, the "dashboard" has a weather area, a news area, and an analog clock. However, tapping on the weather area will take you to the pictured app.

Facebook are said to be working on an android app! Until then I recommend using a browser to view Facebook and FaceUp to share pictures to Facebook. That's what I did on my SGSI. Now I have a Note II and Facebook is pretty fast.
you can try "fast for facebook". good for battery life ( it has exit option). friendcaster is great in feature but not good in battery life ..

Nothing that throws ads at you is a "win".
Call it "free" , then throw ads at you constantly, and don't even give the option to remove the ads. lol Rubbish.
tried atrium, every time i checked my news feed it asked if i wanted to let it manage my notifications. i didn't want notifications but it kept showing up, so uninstalled

but I do still have the app 'Klyph" on my phone.

Now Atrium has an ad-free version and it's one of the best facebook alternatives on Android. I'm using it and turned off notifications successfully!
The only option it's missing is the group chat i think.
Hey, recommend you Maki for Facebook & Twitter, which includes Facebook, Messenger and, of course, Twitter.
It's free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sunshine.makilite

The only reliable and safe alternative that I have found so far is to use http://mbasic.facebook.com — it is the static lightweight old-school interface designed for old pre-smartphone era phones. You can also use it to access the 'text-mode' version of the fb messenger. Since the pages are static you'll need to refresh the page to get updates.
Another way to access the fb messenger without installing the android app would be using firefox with an extension for changing the user agent to that of a desktop browser (the native option Request Desktop Version does not work in this case).
