question about the 2.1 ruu leak - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

well im running the the 2.1 leak and i decided to try and turn sense off via going into application manger and clearing defaults on sense and hitting home (like you did on 1.5), unfortunately this does not work, it does not give an option to choose between sense and vanilla android. Any suggestions?

The one signed with test keys, or the one signed with release keys?

He means when running a 1.5 rom there was the option to switch to "Home" as a launcher. In the leaked 2.1 rom there wasnt the choice.
He would have to install a separate launcher to be able to have a vanilla look.

You can try helix from the market.. Its what i use instead of sense. Alot of people from here use it.
You can also look up Zeam Launcher, looks sorta like sense but runs wayyy smoother and its most definitely not htc sense.
Also you can try this one from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=678706
There are quite a few others, some devs include some in roms. Just search for launcher.apk or launcher2.apk.

+1 for Helix launcher, whenever I go away from sense that's what use. The best part is the landscape homescreens.

Stupid question about Espresso....

OK, I know right off the bat that this is a dumb question, but I just can't figure out what the big deal about Espresso is. I've searched many, many times, but that just brings up people asking how to install it.
What I'm curious about is what's the big deal? What does Espresso bring to the table? Functionally, not cosmetically, why would I want Espresso on my phone?
Because if it's just a cosmetic change, people surely wouldn't be cluttering up threads so much asking about it, right?
It brings nothing but a newer looking Rosie Bar. I for one cant stand it and would prefer the stock Rosie to Espresso. Ive also grown to like the Droid Launcher...

OK, thanks.
That's pretty much what I thought, but so many people seem so very, very eager to get it within 10 seconds of a new rom release, I thought maybe it might add some actual functionality.
But if it's just the cosmetic change, then I agree, it's butt-ugly. Stock Rosie looks much better. Haven't tried out the Droid launcher yet, I'll give it a look. Gotta say though, I'm not sure about ditching Sense. It's not so much Sense itself I'm attached to, but some of the widgets that depend on it....
I for one think any variation of rosie is ugly, I prefer nexus launcher. I also liked launcher2, with the app dock. That sinistermashes dudes idea for a dock as a launcher was a kewl idea. Conservative and intuitive.

Neither the Droid Launcher or Espresso themes ditch Sense. They just change the look of the launcher bars at the bottom of the screen. All the Sense features and widgets still work fine with either of them.
I like the stock rosie or the nexus launcher, at least those tell you which screen you're on. The expresso doesn't and it's big... too much space taken up.
I don't get what the big deal is.

I'll check it out. As I said, I'm not attached to sense, I just can't bring myself to get rid of a few of the widgets that rely on it.
That said, from a cosmetic point of view, I think Espresso is going about 10 years backwards from a UI design point of view. I also think the stock, Google developed Android launcher belongs somewhere in the Windows 3.1 league.....
Then again, I also don't understand why people give a crap about the lockscreen. I always just do a quick double click on the menu button and never see it in the first place.
Maybe I'm just not the target audience for these particular tweaks....

Id give up sense in a heartbeat if i could find a bookmark widget and email widget as nice as senses. And the full weather animations too.
I hear beatiful widgets has animations? Same level as 2.1?

HTC Widgets with Launcher2

So I tried to search for this problem and don't believe I could find anything. This is probably a simple question for someone so here it goes.
I recently installed the Launcher2 Patch from Jcase. It's fantastic but I would like to be able to use the HTC widgets that I could with the SenseUI. Is this possible or no?
If not is there anywhere I can get a comparable full screen Calendar for this?
Thanks in advance.
HTC widgets don't work without the SenseUI.
Aloysius 2.0 PORT V7 looks alot like Launcher2, it even has live wallpapers, and still has HTC widgets. It's a little snappier than L2, IMO.
I second that. Aloysius is my dream rom so far. Live wallpapers, nexus lock screen, and htc widgets.
Only thing I don't like about it is, seeing as it's a sprint rom, some verizon only apps don't work (only one I care about is skype though)

Due to several bugs Spencer actually pulled v7/8 and is currently getting the boot image sorted to square away some issues. Currently my daily rom.
Does Port 6 still support the HTC widgets over Launcher2? Please correct me if I'm stupid.
V9 is up now and pretty solid. It doesn't have LWP, though.
Just to be clear, it'n not running Launcher2, but he's modded the sense launcher to look like it. That way, you can still use HTC widgets.

Launcher Pro in Market! Fastest smoothest launcher ever!

Hey guys, I was looking through the nexus forum and found a post for Launcher Pro. It's available in the market for free and it's super fast. Check it out! The swiping is ridiculous and it works on the G1 MT3G
www.launcherpro.com
hmmm, just installed it and it is fast. Not nearly as many options as ADW but it sure is fast. Have setup all my screens again but will give it a try for a while to see how it fairs.
Wohoo...
Multitouch pinch to preview and the little bumps almost make the sense experience complete
This is crazy smooth! My only complaint is that it FC's when I try to pick a wallpaper from it. And cyanogen says that Launcher2 is not stable for our phones, but this is 17 times better. Anyone know the adb code to make it stay in memory? I'm not having any issues with it but I still like to have it in memory=p
Awesome stuff!
Requesting: scrollbar in the drawer; apps assigning for / editing for the shortcuts.
HOLY CRAP this app works flawlessly on my cm5t5 g1.
I would like for there to be more options though.
Great job so far mang, keep up the great work!!
Very very nice indeed!
Shame that I can't edit the icons using Bettercut and/or restore a previous Home-screen arrangement using MyBackUpPro. Without these things I will have to use ADW's Launcher for now. Which is not a punishment by itself
[Edit] With the "new" version (the one with the appdrawer handler still visible when you open the drawer) this IS possible (editting using BetterCut), nice job!
What does it actually do for a CM5.0.7t5 phone? Has Cyanogen weighed in on this?
hi there!
awesome launcher, smooth as hell.
But i wonder if theres an option to let in rest in memory.
I experience some wait time when im getting out of apps, so that the homescreen has to rebuild itself. with the default cm5t5 launcher theres the option in spareparts that makes it stay in memory so it was there very fast after quitting apps.
cheers
Using this launcher with cm5.0.7 test5 and its fantastic. Im also running the overclock kernel at 652 and its smooth!
Question though, wouldn't the spare parts option to keep launcher in memory apply to whatever launcher you are using?
Weird, it does not show up in the market for me...
I am using htcclays's csdi. I know that rom was from overseas originally... Does it mess up the market too?

I think its 2.0+ only
its just a launcher. uninstall and install it like a normal app. its not some system hack, i duno why some of you are worried about it. dont even need to nandroid, it doesnt mess up any system stuff. doesnt even require root access. it's a pretty smooth launcher. adw is trying to rework his to make it smooth as well.

yes it works, i set LauncherPro as default launcher when asked when phone booted, then i used SpareParts option to leave launcher in memory and it worked. Now when i close apps im instantly in my homescreen without having to reload it every time. works like a charm =)

I don't think so, otherwise people with sense roms could push spare parts into their roms and make the option work. I do know that there is a thread on doing just that in general, but I'm too lazy to search now=p
so im guessin' the LauncherPro isn't for 1.6 fones, like the G1?
^ yeap, see my post above.
Been using it since yesterday on G1/CM5.0.7t5 and it's mighty fast.
Excellent work!
A 5 column launcher would be nice though, if it doesn't affect performance...

And have something go wrong, brick my phone, and have only myself, and you, to blame. No thanks. Better safe than sorry. Go troll something else.
With my limited understanding of the flashing process and all of this, I don't take risks. Besides, no one on here is going to be accountable for bad advice given and replace the phone there crappy advice bricked. If you can't give advice without a disclaimer, then shut up about me asking questions like this.

LauncherPro Beta

This post is targeted towards all the leakers out there. If you're still looking for a Nexus One-style home replacement app, look no further than LauncherPro Beta. It has an app launcher drawer with a *very* smooth 3D fly-in effect, a la the Nexus One. Home screen scrolling stutter is also eliminated, and overall the app just flies performance-wise.
I'm sure many of you have heard of it; this thread is for the people who haven't. Please no flaming.
EDIT: You can also "pinch-zoom" the home screen to get a helicopter view - just like the Sense UI.

Yeah its a decent little application, However you should probably post this in themes and apps as it doesn't relate to development. Not flaming just saying you posted in the wrong forum.
I agree with you that it doesn't really belong here, but I was hoping to ward off a lot of the people complaining about not having root and how they can't make their phone look like a Nexus One. Maybe my efforts are futile...
I use LauncherPro on my Eris. I have one tip to throw out there for root users who want to use this... the app doesn't (yet) have a feature to customize what the dock icons do. And on a Sense-based ROM, you will probably be getting the HTC Messaging app by default with no way to switch it (at least that's what happened to me). That's fine if you use that, but I only use Handcent SMS, for example.
So I had to use ADB to rename /system/app/Mms.apk to Mms.bak... no adverse affects seen from that yet. Handcent took over automatically. Downside being you can't use the HTC app anymore unless you reverse the change.

Yeah all you have to do is remove Mms.apk and Browser.apk and you get handscent and xscope as defaults (if u have them installed of course). Not technically custom, but still what I wanted
Try updating to his newest release. 0.2.0. I have mine themed and since his newest release on 5.19, my sms opens to chomp. should work with handscent as well, I have not deleted my default sms.
hope that helps.
I like...has anyone confirmed sense widgets working with it yet?
Sense Widgets do not appear as an option in adding onto the launcher pages.
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
sense widgets will not work with launcherpro. it is a stock home replacement. only android widgets work. however, flip clock and weather widget is an app that mimics the htc flipclock. you have to install the ht7 theme for the flipclock and weather icons. looks identical. either that or beautiful widgets. there are no other apps created that mimic the rest of the widgets tho... yet. however there are a few android widgets that will suffice tho. use them to your own liking. I wish htc would create Senseui replacement app. Meaning, open source skinning for sense ui. its one of the main reasons why i rooted my phone. We all like the functionality of those widgets, but they wont make them open source. that would discourage many from rooting and voiding thier warranties. id pay for that app and themes as well!
yea, doesnt belong here, but launcherpro IS SWEET!!!!!!!
I really liked LauncherPro Beta... but i also fell in love with HelixLauncher mostly because you can customize the bottom bar for any apps that you want and its also free on the market
The developer of that app is actually working on updating it to be able to customize the bottom dock. I did a lil reading here on the boards & found a way to re route the messaging shortcut to handcent. Works like a charm. Til then ill still rock with sense until that update comes along. If your rooted and using ported hero rom, try adw launcher. Its the best so far. Now it has the customizable bottom dock. Its A flashable file so use at your own risk. And do not forget to do nandroid backup.

Its called Weather Widgets and its made by the "Android Apps" people. It looks JUST LIKE the sense Clock/Weather widget and functions the same way too. Its what I use with the Launcher Pro Beta. Looks just like sense. I believe its a paid app though.
Also, Weather Widgets (yr.no) by Thomware is very close to sense also.
Just installed LauncherPro Beta, and I LOVE it. Now that you can change what the shortcuts on the bottom go to, I believe I'm going to completely abandon HelixLauncher. This one is WAY better.
I use LauncherPro Beta. I love it. Customize the dock, change screens
Pretty fast too. MFLOPS 3.34 @ 1.62 sec, 3.358 @ 1.61 sec, 3.323 @ 1.63.
Not too bad. OC to 768.
Is there a way to replace the stock launcher home (not rosie) with this launcher been trying all day....i really want to be a pro and put the new launcher in system/apps as opposed to data/app
is this possible ?
Edit: nevermind I got it
ADW
Guys, ADW launcher is in the market now. just search adw
I find this blows even launcherpro away
edit: and it's free too, just like launcher.
I just installed adw a few days ago, switching from launcherpro, so trust me, I don't have anything against launcherpro
ADW is pretty cool. Was using Launcher Pro. Think I'll use ADW for a while.

when I bought my SGS i9000 i didn't know much about android, now I now a little, I love my SGS but Samsung leaves that phone a little, if you want touchwiz you must install an .apk -.-' there won't be official ICS for that phone, and i'm a bit bored about SGS Ginger.... and I'd like test Sense, cuz I'm thinking buy a HTC phone
Looking in the development section might be a good place to start.........

If you're a bit bored of you launcher i'd get a custom launcher off the market like Go Launcher EX (free and offers pretty much everything), or Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher - which come in free and paid varieties and also offer the same thing.
Go launcher has some fantastic in built widgets, plus a whole host of useful features like a built in task killer, multiple docks, changeable icons loads of transition animations. All for free. Sense really has nothing on that and its more of a battery hog, plus it'd be a lot harder to use, what with sense being for HTCs and so there isnt much call on it for SGS

Okay well that's fair enough, good luck with finding a good sense ROM, i realy dont know of any to suggest,
I'm not sure if the SGS even has any Sense ROMs, but from what I understand, it's no easy task to port Sense onto a non-HTC device
