Notifications work... and maybe not. - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange issue in my Topaz:
Some times, a notification (with repeat) ring and show up. In the same day, another notification (just a small reminder) with no repeat, DO NOT ring, and DO NOT show up in the screen, no led blink, no nothing.
This happens with or without sence.
When I flash the latest Official ROM, and import data with PIM Backup, I noticed that same thing. At the time, I figure out a problem with my Time Fuse. So, I just adjust the fuse, set the time and everything was alright.
Now, I don't understand. Same Monthly and annual calendar alarms work as usual, but if I made a new appointment in calendar, the phone do not ring, and do not show any notification.
I went to the Registry, and check this:
Enter registry HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications\{}
The Notification entry (second on the list) show:
AvailableOptions
0x0 (0)
Duration
0x0 (0)
Options
0xF (15)
Wave
\Windows\notify.wma (that was my choice)
What could be wrong? I'm stucked here, without any clue
- Another thing... maybe BsB utility (Made for HD2) have something to do about this... after install it, the phone get some errors at restart. Just a guess.
Is there any other registry entry for Notifications?
Thanks for any help.
PMoto

There seems to be a missing key.
The typical notification reg is listed as;
Available Options: Set to 1
Default: (this is the one your missing and it names the notification, i.e., Reminders, Mediauploader, Phone: Voicemail, etc.
Duration: Set to 1
Option: Set to 1
Wave:
If your registry is bad, there is only one solution, to hard reset.
BsB could have been the culprit as it is for a different device with a different registry configuration.
I never used it because it caused me issues early on.

Thanks Bruce.
The Default key is not missing. I just omitted that one, because is the name in Portuguese:
(Default)
Lembretes
So, thanks but that is my fault... I have no missing key.
Anyway, the (Default) key is the first one, not the second. Does that matters?
I change values to 1, and I'll try.
I'll post feedback.
Appreciate.
PMoto

Can you translate Lembretes for me? Sorry.
I just want to check what settings I have under the same key.

Sure: "Lembretes" are Notifications.
If I set all keys to 1, I loose the options, so I set them again, as I used to use it.
Still the same... nothing happens.
I wonder if TD2 tools could have something to do with it too. Both (TD2 Tools & BsB) use registry twicks, and might have done some damage.
I try them both when I need to have NDrive & TomTom in landscape.

Try installing the enclosed cab.
I exported my reminder registry and set it for your sound file.
Don't know if it will help but it is worth a try.

Thanks. I'll try that and post back.
PMoto

Well, thanks Bruce, but...
I Install that file, and instead of "Lembretes", I get a "Reminder", showing notification, but with no sound, no repeat, no led flash. Anyway, did not work.
But, that make me think in one thing. What is the "Right" name of the key?
Could it be "Lembretes", or "Notificações" (I try that one too with no luck), or could it be something else? Is the name really important. Maybe I have a wrong name, changed by BsB or TD2Tools?????
Or maybe it's something else...
I'll keep trying new combinations, and post back... again.
Thanks.
PMoto.

In my reg in English, I have HKCU\ControlPanel\Notifications with only blank default key.
Under this key are subfolders with all of the various notifications listed after "Default, Phone, Reminders\Autosnooze, Shell Overrides, and Sounds" keys.
I cannot speak to the Portugese translations but I have no key labeled notification with a sound attached.
Sorry that didn't work for you.
I notice in TD2 tools under TF3D there is a setting to enable\disable Custom notifications UI, try changing that. Also look for similar in BsB.
Again, all would be fixed with a hard reset, as painful as it is.

Well Bruce, here are the news:
Definitely is not a Notifications Registry Key issue.
I pick a Annual 12/Mai notification I have, edited it to today, and it works.
So the registry is working fine... start thinking its a notification cue issue.
Must investigate.
Thanks for your help, anyway. I believe we will solve this...
PMoto

Well well... and it seems it's working again.
I deleted some notifications not important, try the posted above, and now i make a new notification at it worked.
So I guess some "BAD" deleted notification was blocking the natural behavior.
I'll make sure everything is all right.
Be back tomorrow.
Thanks for your effort's.
PMoto

Just to say that my notifications are working again.
There was no problems with system registry.
Just a small cleaning, maybe some garbage was the cause.
Special thanks to Bruce and his effort to help.

Setting default input and keeping it.

Ok I have searched and not run across anything without reading every thread in here.
How do I change my default input method from keyboard to letter recognizer and MAKE it stick.
I change it i the input menu and reg edits but every time I soft reset it is back.

I'm after the phone pad so I can still use the 8125/Wiz screen as a normal phone keypad at times and not have to whip out the stylus.
whatever you do, dont use registry wizard to set it... I white screened a week ago doing that, hard reset
hope to find a solution
Perhaps this:
HKCU\ControlPanel\SIP
DefaultIM {42429667-.... or one of the others {42429690- {42429691-
Look in the neighborhoud HKCR\CLSID\{424296...... for the others.
Cheers
edit: In case it wasn't clear you need to fill in the whole CLSID in the DefaultIM string value. So {42429667- including the } at the end.
It should work after a soft reset (gone with a hard reset)
Any Solutions to this yet?
Thanks

yes but i make a hard reset after the first try (manually change registry with tcmd) and i try in another way...white screen in every try
lost in translation...
I was saying that if you TRY to use registry wizard to set it, you will get a white screen, and be left having to HARD RESET....
Not the best solution, but perhaps you could use my program SwitchSip to change the SIP on every soft reset. I don't know if it'll stick though, I've never tried...

I think we've all tried the method. Read the posts above carefully.
Just as a problem recap: the default SIP reghack no longer works on AKU2 ROMS. The kbd default occurs after a soft reset no matter what you have changed the registry value to.
I'm working on this one too. I coded up a program that quickly set the SIP to block recognizer and exited figuring I could just add it to the startup programs folder to switch over after a soft reset.
However, while this program works just great normally, it doesn't change the SIP when run at startup. I am working on why this is, currently. So far I've determined that my program is able to find the block recognizer SIP so the SIP dll is loaded. Tomorrow I may get a few more minutes to work on it. I'll code my program to check to see if it correctly set the SIP to block recognizer and re-attempt to change until it's successful. I'm guessing that this will have no effect on the issue since my current working theory is that the kbd default is set sometime after the startup programs run.
Guys, I don't know whether my app worked or not, but this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=317635#317635
seems to suggest it did. I don't have a wizard to test it on though
V
@vijay555:
I've got my little app set up on my today screen so I can just tap it quickly after everything's loaded to change my sip but it won't work if I drop it into my startup folder.
Perhaps this is what the poster you refer to is doing? Does your program check the default SIP using SipGetCurrentIM after you switch to see if the operation worked? Or do you just check for an error code after calling SipSetCurrentIM. Me, I'm just checking for an error currently and am not getting one.
Sleuth255: I really can't remember how I did it, I wrote it in c++ before I could program in c++, somehow. I'm on a promise to rewrite it sometime, and turn it into VJSipSwitch, for now it's merely a bastard child.
However, despite this, it's also designed to be configured as a shortcut to be launched from a hardware key or shortcut... if it becomes an issue, I'll look over the code again.

MyFaves application supressing MISSED CALLS!

After sleuthing through the forum archives I have finally found out why I have not been getting missed call notifications on my phone. The MyFaves collection of programs (I do not know which one) are recording the missed calls in their own log, not the one that the phone uses to give notifications. I am using ultimate launcher and the Myfaves Today-plugin is hidden.
The problem:
When contacts on the "myfaves list" call and get missed, there is ONLY a notification on the myfaves application. If the today plugin for myfaves is disabled you will only be able to see that you've missed a call by looking at your call history.
The suggested solutions:
1) Many have suggested removing "list" from HKLM/security/phones/nolog registry.
What happens to me is that the list file is regenerated every soft-reset!!
2) I have used the deletemy5messagecenter.cab.
The cab, they do nothing. All it did was make my5msgcenter unrecognizable.
3)Flash the wing with any ROM not containing myfaves
Maybe some other time
My own questions:
1) How do I permanently remove 'List'?
2)Is there a way to remove My5App.exe, My5MsgCenter.exe, My5Service.exe from my windows folder? They are always checked as "read only" and "system" files.
Thanks for your help!
Yeah, MyFaves can be managed through my-tmobile.com, and I'd really rather not having the app on my Wing. Many times when I press the Talk button twice (to dial the last person I called) it will dial the last Fave I called... not cool.
I'll prob end up flashing a custom ROM onto my Wing eventually, but if there's an easy way to get rid of MyFaves in the mean time, that would be great.
NS
I found this reg edit in a thread here of people who wanted to use for non-myfave plans.
HKLM > SOFTWARE > HTC > My5 > SMSC > CmdGet > StateRequest
Open value ClientService and change the value from 1 to 0
The above steps work for a while but then the same issue started up even with the myafve app disabled so I tried fooling around with the other settings within the myfave reg sections but they restored to the default setting after a reset & the same problems continued. I finally restored my phone from a back I had & disabled it again. After that everything was in place but I found at the start of my current bill cycle I got a ota that set the myfave display back on my phone. I had to enable it & turn the display off & disable it all over again. So far all my calls are being logged with the custom tones I have in place.
1. Install a custom ROM.
2. Install HTCHome if it's not in the ROM you chose.
3. Setup HTCHome to handle your "top 5".
4. Use tmobile's site or call in to change the top five when you have to.
Now you have your problem fixed and oodles of more free RAM, storage space and a much faster device.
Hmmmm... it does seem like the only way is to install a custom ROM on there. This is because the software is self regenerating. Too bad... I guess the reason I couldn't find an answer is because this problem doesn't exist because everyone has custom roms.

Well... under hklm/services disable the SMSC something or other...
Then under \windows\startup items, rename the my5 item. Powercycle then delete the item. That should disable it from turning itself on. A custom ROM will always be better, though.
If I had two phones, I'd make a video comparison of a stock ROM and a custom ROM...
As far as VGCats go, they do rock, and I haven't gone to his site in a while because I noticed he stopped updating it. What's up with him?
Thanks for the reply my friend. I'll try it out.
Scott from VG cats got busy with his personal life, but he promised regular updates a few weeks ago.
Update:
Okay, So I had already removed the my5 link from my \windows\startup folder. Then I Changed the registry entry at hklm\software\htc\my5\smsc\cmd get\staterequest. I changed value of 1 ==> 0 for "ClientUIOnOff".
After a soft reset The ClientUIOnOff was still set to 0. I no longer had a myfav icon in my today tray.
After calling my phone and initiating a missed call. My phone would still not notify me of a missed call from a fav of mine.
I'm going to try and delete the "list" registry value I mentioned earlier... stay tuned viewers of few.
update to my update:
"list" still returns! oh dear... I'll have to work on this tomorrow. Thanks for everyone's help!
So I went into the registry and went to HKLM > SOFTWARE > HTC > My5. I changed the name of the "My5" folder to "disabled My5" folder. soft-reseted and upon reset I deleted my "list" entry in the registry. Wahlah It worked. A missed call from a myfav was notified by my phone!
Did you remove the SMSC service from the registry? Oh and I forgot, also from the hklm/init

Dismiss Alarm Box Unchecks itself

every 2 or 3 days when my alarm sounds i get no onscreen noticfication to dismiss the alarm, only the symbol in the status bar.
When i look into sounds notification/reminders i see the "display message on screen" box is unchecked again so i recheck it.
What causes this to uncheck itself?
are you experiancing this behaviour or have any insight into the cause?
thanks
I have the exact same prob. It started when I used Diamond TF3D Config prog to change the diamond theme.
Dont know why it happens bro.
Anyone knows how to disable Missed Alarm Alert (symbol on the status bar) so I don't need to go to status bar console and remove it every morning ?

I believe i was having this problem before i had installed Diamond TF3D.
The search continues.
Im having the problem on TLR3 ROM and i know people who are also haveing this trouble on 1.37 original ROM and the 1.93 Original.
I'm using TF3D Config and also 1.93 ROM but I don't seem to have this issue?
Although I have never used it to apply a 'theme' only, to change date/time format and apply one of the performance tweaks.
Have you guys updated your TF3D config via apptodate and also tried restoring defaults (within TF3D config) and then tried applying your settings again?
i too only use TF3D config to format the date, i have updated it using apptodate.
I may uninstall it and see what effect that has, im not really sure that TF3D is the cause of the problem.

Yes, I'm on the original 1.37 ROM and am seeing this - bl00dy annoying too as it seems such an odd 'bug'....
Mathew
Had this happen again today, really annoys the wife as i spend time trying get the phone to shut up.
I have made no progress determining the cause, but it does only seem to uncheck the box after a soft reset, but strangley not after every soft reset..... the plot thickens
This problem only happens after i reset the device, but not every time.
As i cant find the cause i was thinking of a way to fix the problem.
i found the reg entry for the reminders show "on screen"
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{15F11F90-8A5F-454c-89FC-BA9B7AAB0CAD}
and i have the values for the box checked and unckecked.
I have been googleing for the past hour but having no luck with what i want to achieve.
I would like to write a batch file to open a reg file that will change the dismiss box registry entry to the checked value, but it seems batch files cannot be run from the windows start up folder.
Im not very technically skilled with programming so could someone more knolegable point me towards the correct way of doing what i desired, which is change a rehgistry value at start up.

If that was in reply to me, I'm looking for registry entry!
This thread seems closest to the problem I have.
For me it is always that on alarm there is no popup where I can dismiss the or snooze the alarm
I always have to unlock the phone (by entering password), tap the status bar, then choose the alarm button and then the pop up appears as it should have done by itself.
This is always, no matter if I reset or not. And, I have checked on "display message" when I look into the settings.
This is freaking weird and annoying.
I've noticed the box unchecks after the sync process via Activesync.
I'm pretty sure it's caused by particular side software we have installed on our Diamons. I propose to post the side software list we have and then point out the pattern.
My list:
MS Voice Command
Finix Battery Icon
Splash ID
Sprite Backup
Diamond Tweak
Resco Explorer
Yandex Maps
Skype
CorePlayer
G-Alarm
Manila Calculator Skin
Yota TV
Nice idea but already flawed given you've not published an exhaustive list. A case in point being Activesync - that's a resident piece of software and furthermore one which you suspect as possibly being responsible!
Or are you certain it is a non-Windows issue? That's quite a leap of faith given we've all previously been scratching our heads...
I don't mean to come across negative, but I also don't want to see a futile attempt at finding a solution!
Mathew
No I am not pretty sure it's not Windows issue. However, if it is, why there are so few of us suffering?
I suspect G-Alarm, got to try to play around with it being uninstalled.
I'm having the same annoying problem since running the 2.03 official ROM. On the 1.93 I never had this problem. I didn't install G-alarm or TF3DConfig.

That's a very good point, although it could quite simply be down to a combination of i) a limited number of people using the alarm, ii) affected users not being bothered by the issue, and/or iii) affected people not realising they are being affected!

Changing default date/time

Hi, this is a question to all rom-cookers out there and everyone with good registry skills.
Does anybody know to change the default date, a new flashed Hima starts with?
I'll freak out, changing the date another hundred times more.
I tried to change the hklm/system/state/datetime-no change.
It was the same, when I tried to change it with an UC-provxml file.
It is one of the last features to finish my Ather's Dark-Fully loaded- german version. Please help! Maybe this is not the right thread- fell free to move it!
I really need a solution - maybee it is too easy to find it after four month of cooking.
Thanx, I want to release it asap after that long time.
well its coded in the HEX Format, the BEST way to do it (also what i did) is to flash a ROM, configure the date and export out the registery key
Here is my Registery key (GMT+3)
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Time]
"TimeZoneInformation"=hex:\
4C,FF,FF,FF,41,00,72,00,61,00,62,00,20,00,53,00,74,00,61,00,6E,00,64,00,61,\

00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,C4,FF,FF,FF
Ups, double post? (too many fingers on keyboard error? hi,hi)
Thanxs, for the quick answer, ather, but this answer pushes me to another big prob I have the last few weeks.
How to import a reg file with this sign ---> \ <--- ?
I think, it´s (a line devider) added by the reg-editor while exporting the reg key,
but I always get an error massage on importing it with registry workshop 3.0.0, while I´m processing hklm.
Maybe you use a different app to import, or does I have to change something in my settings?
Btw, I newer took a look at hklm\Time because I compared my registries with CeRegEditor after changing the system clock and there was newer a difference in that key! Sometimes it is too obvious to see the solution.
try to change the \ to \\
i aslo use Registery Workshop to export the keys..
Fine, I´ll try, seams to me, to this strange thing to use \\ to be interpreted as \.
Sorry, it takes me so long to answer because I´m cooking in between on my notebook,
Watching this thread on my wifes and answering on our desktop.
Multitasking, is not mine I guess!
I took a look at the hklm\Time you mentioned, The system Time is in there??
When I open the key to edit, I see something about middle eurorean (summer) time in there. You are sure -ok, I´ll try.
The second prob I´m working on is the hklm\tegik\et9 key of Opera mini 4.2 and to make it default system wide. Hope your hint with the double \\ works to get ready.
No - It's not this reg key
Nope, I'm sorry , but it is not the hklm\time key!
This is just the key for the Time Zone Information as the key's name says.
But I solved another quite similar problem:
When I change the reg key to lock the keys of the device, the keys are unlocked after flashing. There must be a xmlfile that changes this key back to 0. After I build a povxml file to user customize it nothing happened!!
The reg key changed to 1 in the registry but the keys are not locked. Quite strange, but I figured out somewhat like a workaround:
In my file, I first set the key 0, and afterwards I change to 1 to lock the keys.
Et voila, it works. Don't know why, but no reason to think about, because it finally works, that's all that counts.
I still need help with the damned changing the system date,
Data Rom
You don't change rom data?? I
I want to get rid of the default 01/09/2003,that´s it.
Somewhat in Jan 2009 would be great, because there is a problem with Opera mini and it's certificate, so it doesn't connect to Internet. When the date is changed first, everything is fine.
Thanx
Ather, check the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Clock key, can't remember it exactly but AFAIR it was that which along with your HKLM\Time was setting up a coldinit date

Text Message Times

When ever I send a text message, I get the correct time I sent it, but when I receive a text message the time of when I received is completely off. I know this is wrong because I tested it with my friends phone. Anyone else have this problem or knows how to fix it thanks.
Try to do a registry edit.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\
Then add a dword key called "TrustTimeZoneField" and give it a dword value of 0
Then soft reset.
See if that helps.
Sorry, but I'm completely new at this. How would I even go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE? Is this through the xperia itself or through the computer?
You'll need to install a program that can edit your phone's registry.
Something like this:
http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
After you have it, you should backup your registry in case and be careful of changes you make since you could end up needing to hard reset. But really, you just navigate to where I posted and then create the new path. This should fix the SMS times for future messages.
I followed your instructions, but my problem still persists. Anything else I could do?
When you go back into the registry, do you see the new entry made (with the exact name and value)? Did you soft reset?
Hi, i had the exact same issue, the phone had changed time zome to +3 instead of +2 (probably igo8 messed it) and i kept receiving sms with wrong time..!! check it that it is correct..!
was pointed to this thread since I opened another with the same issue. I downloaded PHMRegEdit and tried to install it. It went through okay, but doesn't seem to want to install onto my phone itself. Had problems installing other programs through the same thing. Only way I've had any luck installing programs was with moving CAB files over and installing them directly on my phone.
So, without being able to change my registry, I did try to see what would happen with just changing the time zone. Tried a couple different ones and if I went to -1 instead of -5 (eastern Canada here) then it showed the right time. But as soon as I went back to -5 it changed all the inbound times again. Really weird since this is only on inbound messages and not outbound as well.
got it. Had to use a different program, but it worked.
what different program did you use? Because I'm still having trouble with my inbound messages.

CeRegEdit. Works from your computer. You plug in your phone and it can grab the registry from your phone, edit it, save it, and soft reset it, all withing Windows on your computer. Nice little program.
This is my value:
Value name:
TrustTimeZoneField
Value data:
0
Base:
Decimal
Value Type:
REG_DWORD
Did I do something wrong?
yea, that's what I have. After I added it then my texting time was fixed. Though I don't know why this registry isn't in the ROMs to begin with.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\
and you add it right there. I know there are other folders to expand, but you don't put it in the other folders, you select PhoneSettings on the left hand side, then on the right you'll see all the registry lines like
Enable3GLongNamePrefix
Last_SMS_Tick
LongNamePrefix
PhoneSettingExt-DLL
etc, etc
My TrustTimeZoneField is the last one on that list with the REG_DWORD of 0
i googled and found bestRegEdit version 1.00 as what is writen in the about of the program www.smartphoneware.com search there its a trial but it will solve ur problem....i have the time fixed but there is 6 to 10 min pluse wish i helped
Thanks everyone, for some reason the inbound text message times are now correct. Turns out it now works because I had to remove my battery to change the sim card, then when I turned my phone on, everything has been corrected.
