Since there are no parental controls, and the market is being overrun by porn apps, can someone help tell me how to pull the Market as I am passing this phone down to my little brother who is in middle school(he only needs phone, text, and maybe email and chat). I pulled the browser.apk and the browser is gone now. I tried pulling the vending.apk but the market is still there and still works, even after a reboot. What else do I need to pull?
That's a good idea for kids.
Vending APK is the only thing that should need to be pulled....actually rm'd.
I am not sure how deep it is in the OS, maybe it gets put back on its own.

Thanks, I remember reading that. Was hoping there was a way without removing it though. Any other ideas before removing google talk?

Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm Vending.apk
On my Hero, the Market app is listed as being in /data/app/ named com.android.vending.apk
By default the Market is stored in /system/app & has been called Vending.apk. It's been like that since at least 1.5.

Yeah... Google has a nasty habit of naming there apk differently then the name of the app.
Ya the actual apk is called Vending.apk but the process is called com.android.vending.apk.
Oh I didn't think of that, if you're market updated itself it will be in /data/app, as the com.blah blah. Remove it too.

It really would be a good idea to have parental controls on the market, or at least a different section for "mature" apps.
ok, I will try removing com.android.vending.apk also when I get home. Thanks for the help everyone.

It's all very soft core, but there are a hell of a lot of apps with it... Must be something about Asian Chicks too...every last one of them as an asian chick as the icon.

I was just browsing the /sdcard/ directory on my captivate and I noticed several directories belonging to applications that were previously uninstalled.
This reminds me of Windows where uninstalling a program leaves a little or a lot of junk behind (registry keys, dll, etc) depending on how poorly the uninstall routine was written.
Enter Revo Uninstaller which scans your hd looking for all that stuff that the program left behind.
Is there a similar app for Android?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ya, i'm also looking any similar to this. Anyone help much appreciated.
Not that I know of. Bad part is, you must be rooted to delete most of that stuff. So the average user can have a ton of unwanted crap that only a factory reset will get rid of.
-Figured i needed a signature for my phone. This is it.
I know this is a very old thread but I am searching for this right now too, or does the build in installer of android also scan for left over files?

Nope, it leaves tons of crap behind. Folders that the apk created with all the junk the app put in them.

I seem to be having some issues getting my protected apps to work, the saved build.prop I used to use no longer does the job, and I'm having some odd issues using another one. I am running JM8+voodoo beta 3+autokiller (aggressive) and when I use a different build.prop the autokiller just doesnt seem to want to kill empty apps. Any help with how to fix this is appreciated, if anyone knows of a guranteed way to get the apps back editing my own build.prop I would appreciate it, also I have tried the eris market fix which didn't work, thanks.

Daft but what I found worked was to run the free Eris Market Fix then reboot the phone and then run the donate version of Eris Market fix and and as if by magic the paid apps are back. Didnt work either on their own or in a different order only that way for some reason....???

Has anyone else confirmed this method? Sounds tight, but why should I donate if it doesn't fix my market! lol
I guess I can refund it if it doesn't...

Okay, maybe you can do us all a favor the next time you have to go through this process:
Make a copy of build.prop before you do anything.
Run Eris Market Fix free version, then make a copy of build.prop again.
Run Eris Market Fix donate version, then make a final copy of build.prop.
Then we can compare the files and see what changes between the two different runs of Eris.
It really was black magic for me to get the Market to show "protected" apps on JM8. None of the usual methods worked, despite trying them all. It took a couple of days for it to get right, and sadly, I don't even remember now what finally worked.
I tried to hack the build.prop... No go.
I Ran Eris Market Fix (free)... Worked right away.
I changed build.prop back to my hacked build.prop... Still worked.
Go figure.
Anyone know if eris market fix will work on 2.2 roms?
Edit: Yes it does!
OK guys here is the Galaxy Tab Email App. It has a sweet new look and has the dual pane in landscape mode. I have been using it on my Epic today and it is sweet! The font is a bit small but its obviously meant to be seen on a larger screen. Just push the Email.apk to /system/app and then reboot your phone. Make a backup of your current email app in case you want to use the original email app instead! This is for Froyo only!!!!
Enjoy :~)
TIP: I use Root Explorer to do all this work, it is the best couple of bucks i have spent. I have not connected any of my Android phones to my Mac for 6 months to push, copy, backup, etc! I highly recommend it!
TIP: Here is a new tip for you guys that are having connection errors with Exchange accounts! It is a bug that we hope that google can fix it sometime soon!

ive got nothing against osx, i really think its fun to use and very intuitive, im just against the locked down last gen hardware. if i were just going to dual boot linux and use it for the most part, id just do so on a pc. it just blows me away that they are getting 1500 dollars for the same thing you could build yourself for a few hundred.

couldn't you just install the email.apk and have access to both this new email app and whatever other one your phone came with?? that would make things easier so if you didn't like this one you could just uninstall it!!

Anyways, I went into terminal, typed su
Cp /system/app/Email.apk /sdcard/
Remount rw
Rm /system/app/Email.apk
Cp /sdcard/download/Email.apk /system/app
And it works flawlessly and loving the multiple delete option

I keep getting a cannot conbnect to server error. It definitely syncs contacts and calendar, but emails don't come through. Anyone have this issue or know of a workaround. Its only with exchange because I test a Gmail account and a hotmail account and the emails definitely come through. Any thoughts or help are greatly appreciated.
FYI running latest Viper ROM and have tested on all other Froyo ROMs with the same results.

Thanks for the file...its the correct one, with the correct name, despite getting it in the right place, something is still missing. I tried an alternate Contacts.apk to no avail either.
Maybe if someone can post a list of the files found in /system/app I can pin-point what's missing...isn't there an odex file that goes with it?

I was going to say the same thing as you dude. LOL!
i do the same thing and regretting...Here's an idea:backup the contacts apk&odex in p920 by using system app remover to restore the backup in p925?
Has anyone been able to get the AT&T Address Book re-installed? I've tried both of the .apk files that were in this thread but no dice. "Application failed to install." Currently using a replacement contact app but that isn't really ideal. Any ideas?
System apps are always hard to reinstall on official rom...I called AT&T and they helped me with 2 hours and no result...the only thing we can do is waiting for the new rom or return it(if you buy it within 30 days and this is what i want to do)
This is how you do, install root explorer , copy the At&t....apk to system, (app) folder then restart.

I tried, but this way doesn't work. SAR has busybox, maybe it's a chance...
Anyone have this apk? I paid for it, did a factory reset when I sent it off for the 4g upgrade now this app has been removed from the market which is BS cuz I can't redown load it. Am I just SOL on this?? I liked this app
It wouldn't work. The server for downloading the roms is defunct. I have the apk from an old version of snesoid and it doesn't connect.
google rom downloads. I can think of at least 4 extremely popular sites off the top of my head.
What patass said.
I know it's inconvenient to not be able to use a native android app to download them directly to your XOOM, but I've found that it's actually better for keeping the ROMs backed up in folders on my computer. That way when I have to wipe my XOOM for whatever reason, I can just push the ROMs folder with everything in it to my SD card.

...roms arent apps. they're images ripped from game cartidges. Images ripped from game CD's would be called iso's. rom's have been around and people have been playing genesis games and all that on their pc's since the mid 90's.
