Battery Leak - Help Appreciated - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I'm experiencing some sort of battery leak, but nothing is jumping out at me. Went to bed ~ 95% and woke up to ~ 20%.
Battery Use Stats:
Cell Standby - 44% (TWS - 0%)
Phone Idle - 45%
Voice Calls - 6%
Display - 3%
Dialer - 2%
Here is the software info:
Firmware - 2.1 Fresh Toast
Baseband - 2.42.00.03.10
PRI - 1.70_003
PRL - 60664
Running OC Widget on detect settings & autokiller on aggressive.
Using SpareParts - Partial Wake Usage - Calendar has the largest bar above Android System (yet I really don't use the calendar for appointments).
Any thoughts/tips/tricks would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Jerry

I'm assuming you have reboot the phone?
In addition, on your OC widget what your setting for screen on and screen off?
I'm still playing with setting that best for me and the phone. However, this is my current setting for OC widget: for screen on 729600 for min and Max and screen off 245760 for min and max. I saw if I did't select differ freq for screen off, the CPU was run at same speed at screen on. Compare the 2.1.1 I'm getting average 8-10 hr of battery. I'm guessing OC might drain battery faster. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes, I have rebooted since loading. I used the auto-detect settings for the OC Widget, but I guess that could be an issue. 8-10 hours of battery seems low to me? I was getting near 24hrs average (some higher, some lower) on Fresh 2.0d.
Here are the settings:
OC Widget Settings:
Screen On - 245760,384000
Screen Off - 245760,384000
I guess that could be an issue.

What's your awake perentage at?

Strange I have mine set higher than your for screen on.
Still battery hr for me. I know 2.1.1 I was getting at least a day an half with moderate use.
Like abcdfv said what your awake and uptime?

Up time: 20:35
Awake time: 5:57

Awake time looks good.
Try this setting on your OC widget:
480000 min and 576000 max. It may or may not help.

Thanks for all of your help.
Would this be for both screen on & off?

Screen on.
For screen off I have mine set at 245760 for min and max. So far battery life is OK. Since unplug at 7:45 AM (100%) and now it at 66%. Few calls, web surfing and facebook. Roughly 1 hr 20 mins usage of phone and 4hr 30 mins standby. I know compare to 2.1.1 it not great battery life.

Thanks - I'll try that.
So far, I might head back to Fresh 2.1.1 if this battery life stays like it is running Fresh Toast.

You could also try running RegawMod, I have had noting but good to say about the ROM so far and battery life is wonderful! I use Strict I think on ak though., stay around 60MB free ram if that helps at all.

Thanks for the help. I decided to factory wipe, wipe SD and cache. I then flashed Fresh 2.1.1 and my battery life is back to normal. Might play with Fresh Toast some more later.
Thanks for all of your help.

[Q] battery optimized ROM

I have seen pretty many ROMs here, but am unable to make out which ROM is best optimized keeping battery life in mind. Could anyone please help suggest me a ROM or two that give the most of the battery life. Please.
You could take any ROM that will work with a kernel supporting OC/UV (like Setiron's) and use Xan's voltage app to limit the top speed of the CPU to something less than stock (1ghz is stock, your choices would be 800, 400, 200, 100)
Then apply an undervolt as low as you can go while still being stable.
This will of course result in a slower device, but that's the tradeoff. Less speed for more battery life.
Do note that the screen is the largest user of power by far and thus you can make the most difference by keeping the backlight as low as tolerable and shut it off whenever you aren't actively using it.

Thanks Da_G. I did use SetCPU, and set the speed to 800, but for some reason it is giving me lower battery life compared to without SetCPU. So took it out.
Also, I have my screen brightness turned all the way down with auto set to off.
I meant to ask for a ROM that has all the battery hogging stuff in it removed/optimized.
I am currently like 45% left after about 8 hours with moderate usage. Trying to see if I can stretch more than this.
My today's usage statistics:
1. 11 hours 25 min 4 secs since unplugged
2. Battery remaining: 63%
3. Voice calls: 1h 10m 15s
4. Display: 1h 15m 42s
5. 2 gmail accounts with push turned on with about 10 mails delivered today
6. google voice with push all time with about 100-120 messages delivered using push
a. I do not have SetCPU.
b. I have my brightness set to 0, with auto-brightness turned off.
c. I used SamServMode to turn on EDGE, and 3G turned off since the phone was off charging hook. In short, on EDGE all the time.
d. Static but nice, colored wall paper.
Could anyone suggest me if this is good enough. And any ROM that could get me battery atleast on par with what I am getting.
A few of my ideas:
1. Use a dark colored theme. Our nice SUPER AMOLED screens don't use up much power to draw black - so the more black - the merrier.
2. Be careful of what extra apps running. Things like widget locker are one more app to run. Go slender. Theme's are okay if they replace files like frameworkres.apk but if they run in background (see it under processes) then that's bad.
3. Be extra careful of making sure you are fully charged when you flash. This means, charge, turn off, charge, turn on, charge, flash. I get a little more charge when I go back to eclair stock .
also note that 95% of battery is the screen
Everything else that was said before me was spot on so try that too.

Thank you kind sir. I shall do this. But I am not flashing anymore.
I loaded the AOSP ROM from Spaceman here

and am getting pretty much the battery backup I was getting with stock.
Thanks a bunch everyone who helped me on this.

[Q] CPU throttling on Revolution

Long time lurker, but 1st time poster.
I've noticed on my Revolution that the CPU always runs at 1ghz. I thought CPU throttling was a standard feature in android?
Anyhow I installed CPU tuner and I get much better standby battery life now (~2% drain/hr when not using phone vs. ~5% drain/hr on standby). The phone runs mostly at 124mhz w the screen off. My problem is my revolution reboots pretty frequently and sometimes even just completely shuts down w CPU tuner on. I still get reboots once in awhile w CPU tuner turned off, but much less frequently.
Anyone else having this problem? I also have green power running in the background to turn off the data connection w the screen off. Are you guys who use setCPU not getting reboots? If so I'll spend the $2 and give that a try.

I honestly don't think anyone has been messing with the CPU until the CM ROM is released.

As far as I've seen, the Revo's CPU does automatically speed scale to the necessary load.
If you're running lots of apps in the background, with the screen on Android will keep the cpu at full throttle to provide a smooth experience for you.
As soon as you turn off the screen, it will throttle it down as much as it can.
If the phone's rebooting on you, that's because whatever cpu tuner is doing may be keeping the cpu speed too low for the demand of the OS, then the watchdog kicks in when it thinks the cpu is stuck in a loop. (watchdog wants to be petted every 30 seconds, if the cpu misses that, the watchdog reboots the phone)
I use setcpu and have no reboot issues.

throttle
I use android system info to show the CPU speed. It shows the % of time my revolution is running at each speed. W/o using a 3rd party app it always shows 100% at 1Ghz. W CPU tuner running it shows 50% at 122Mhz, 25% at 1Ghz, and 25% in between.
I don't think I'm running any apps thats sucking up a lot of CPU. I'm rooted w most of bloat removed.
Am I the only one not seeing any CPU throttle on stock?
i'm not seeing any throttling on stock.
setcpu drastically improved battery life when the phone's off, and no reboot issues.
some issues initially with the phone not throttling back up quickly enough when i got a call, making me unable to answer the call, but played with the settings and made it so it automatically throttles back up to 1024 when i get a call, and now it's fine.
Exactly Im much happier with my phone now. I had the same issue when I received a call but set up the profile as u did and have no problems at all

I am using setCPU as well with no issues. I have mine set were the screen is off it goes to 124 and clocks back up to full 1GHz when it is on. Helps greatly improve my battery.
So what settings do you use? I get really bad lag when waking my Revo. Sometimes it will reboot after waking too.

I don't know if this is a CPU throttling issue, or a general REVO issue, but I get horrible horrible lag sometimes trying to get any programs to respond. Like press the home key, or click send, or anything like that. I'm running Decrap 1.1, I don't know if I have too many processes running or what.
Interesting. The Thunderbolt has the same issue. Is it the same CPU in that phone?

Battery usage has never lasted a full day

So as the title says, my note has never lasted a full day on a full charge. Even with moderate use, it lasts maybe 15-16 hours. With heavy use, playing a game or 2 or using the browser, it lasts maybe 9 hours. From the first day I got it I've rooted it and have used only the romow rom.
Currently on the version 7.5 HD.
BB: LA4
Kernal: AbyssNote 3.3
Each time I flash a new rom I always do a battery calibration test and even wipe the battery stats on recovery.
I notice people get a full day's use from the battery and maybe even more. Is there something I am missing? My wi-fi is always off unless I am at home or when needed. I turn the data connection off too most of the times. When I look at the battery usage in settings (I do this often), the display shows the most usage, always more than 65%, and nothing else. The android system, android OS, cell standby and whatever else are always less than 10%. Is there something I can do to increase the time the battery lasts? I'd like to get a full day's worth, and even more
Use black backgrounds and dark apps? Amoleds don't use power to display black. Whites will suck your battery dry.

Recently i visited a samsung service centre. I asked the engineer as what kind of problems people have reported in the note other than screen issues and he said battery issues and people ve got their batteries replaced. Maybe u want to get urs checked.

I would also suggest get your battery checked. But more than likely, Samsung will say 15-16 hours of moderate use is normal.
I am currently using Rocket ROM v20 with Abyss 3.5b. I have had it without charge for 12 hours now and from 100% it is at 82% right now. So far today I have watch an ep of anime (22mins long), gaming for 1.5 hours, had 4 phone calls (total of 42 mins). I think only draining 18% after all of that is impressive.

That is impressive. If I watch a 40 min show only, my battery would go down from 100% to 65. And if I play a game for an hour (depends on the cpu/ram usage the game takes up to), then my battery is at 20%. And this has been since the beginning. The moderate use I am talking about is calls here and there, texting, playing a game for maybe 20 min. Like today I played Shadowgun for a total of an hour, where's my water for 20 min, and texted a bit, made 2 calls, and used dolphin browser for 10 min. It hasnt even been 12 hours and my battery is at 20%. Ahhh I think I just need to get a new battery.
I know roms/kernals/basebands all factor into battery usage as well, so are there any suggestions as to which one might be good with this? Aesthetically I love romow's rom. I love every layout of it. Rocket rom is a little too "in your face" kind of, atleast for me.
Im always set my brightness to 0% and im not using auto brightness. What if you change the kernel to FM 2.0 Kernel. i find it saves more batt than abyss kernel.

I actually like the "in your face" look, of course that is my preference. I heard that checkrom is good for battery but in all honesty, I have tried a couple of roms and there isn't a huge difference between them. The biggest difference with battery usage I have notice is when you start using a OCing app with profiles like SetCPU. Tweak the power usage with each speed step and create profiles for when the screen is off, on call and etc.

How hot does it get compared to room temp? 15C warmer? 20C warmer?
I'd really love to work with some people to come up with a step by step guide on how to track down and fix battery drain / over heat problems.
The best way to waste power is to make heat with radio chip and GPU. Second best is to make light with torch or screen.
I know with the change in battery technology, some old practice no longer applies but I still follow the old rule of thumb when I get a new equipment.
When I got my Note, the very first thing I did was charge the phone for 12 hours before actually using it. You might want to give that a shot, the reading on the battery may not always be correct.

may i know which governor are you using? try to update the AbyssNote kernel to latest v3.5c and try either the AbyssPlug, lulzactive or SmartassV2 governor then see if there's any difference
Running stock LA4 ROM here. Brightness usually on lowest. If you don't touch the phone, it can last on standby a week. See below how it only lost 3% after 17 hours. Of course as the screen was off all the time, the internal processes take most of the power consumed.
After more than 1 day I still have 50% battery. See how it drops fast when I'm using the phone to read and download web pages.
I have the self same issue - battery hardly lasts a day - I just about manage to get home 8 hours later on critical - to hook it up to mains to charge.
All I use it during the course of the day - is browsing forums via tapatalk, viewing the occasional email. No hectic media consumption and music playing.
I am trying a different route now - it was running on stock firmware - over the weekend I've taken the following steps.
Rooted my device , installed CheckRom Revo v5 , running speedmod kernel with modem LA4
Hoping to see how that improves things.

First of all, you should post a screen shot of your battery graph.
How bright is your screen? If it's at 100%, then you're going to chew through battery very fast.
Games that require very high cpu usage will kill the battery.
Some games I can play forever on - some games, like Plants vs zombies, or puzzle quest 2, kill the battery. I can probably get 3-4 hours worth on a battery, and that's with a very low screen brightness. That's the price to pay with a fast cpu.
Dolphin is quite the battery hog too. I try to avoid it - I browse for hours with opera mobile, especially with the green on black mod.

Whats the best app for battery statistics? I will get the graph and post a screenshot tm. My brightness is usually 50 % set in the middle always. Today I put my brightness all the way down to 0, I literally did not use my phone, maybe turned it on couple times during the day for 2 min, sent 1 text, played a game for 5 min, and used a medical application for 10 min, just to check the battery. With that much minimal amount of phone usage, after about 9 hours my battery was at 79%. Is that normal?

Install better battery stats and check for kernel wakelocks. If there exists some that last longer than 10 mins then some app is involved in the battery leak

Losing 4% every hour even with screen turned off

It's very saddening but this is the case for me.
I have battery saver app installed but it doesn't help very much.
Is there any good power saving tips or perhaps a ROM really good for battery life?
can I replace my TP's battery?
What ROM are you using?
fat n-creamy CM10
1) check your wifi sleep settings and ensure it is set to off when not in use
2) set your minimum frequency to 192 instead of 384. However some people have seen SODs when set at this frequency
3) Use better battery stats to see if there any wakelocks.
I am getting around 0.5% using JCSullins 20121216 CM10 build.

[Q] CPU running at high clock most of the time

Updated section:
After clearing cache through recovery and doing a hard reset, the uAh has gone back to 3142000. Standby time seems good with the battery losing 7% overnight. It does charge quite quickly from 0-100 in about 2h. The previous heating issue remains with cpu monitors showing that the cpu jumps to high clock when I touch the screen. I don't see any change in which apps use the most battery with the screen taking up the most as before the problem started.
The heat appears to be what is draining the battery but I can't find any single app that causes it to ramp to max.
Pictures:
No-frills is set to stock settings to see how the phone handles the actions
2nd picture is when phone is idle
3rd picture is immediately after swiping through a few tabs and scrolling through some pages in the app which causes cpu clock and load to increase

I've had this Z1 for about 11 months. I can only get around 2.5h on screen time with regular usage. The battery uAh was only 1848000 Recently it fell to the 1700s. Calibration appears to reduce the value further. The phone seems to heat up in about a minute or two no matter what app is running.
The phone is rooted on stock 4.4.2
I have tried updating to Lollipop before but received an error due to rooting, so I don't think anything changed.

sounds like it's time for you to replace your battery.
You may try to disable the "input boost frequency"
By default when you toch the screen, cpu frequency of two cores instantly jumps to around 1400 to preventing any lag but it seems to use more power and causing heat
I have disables this and since then I'm no longer have any heat issue and also the battery life is so much better now but you may exprience a little lag while scrolling on heavy web pages but thats all
Btw i'm on .157 and using Kernel Adiutor for cpu tweaks
You may disable this by the app mentioned above or by editing sys.somc.touch_perf_kick=1 from 1 to 0 in buid.prop or adding this line
