So as the title says, my note has never lasted a full day on a full charge. Even with moderate use, it lasts maybe 15-16 hours. With heavy use, playing a game or 2 or using the browser, it lasts maybe 9 hours. From the first day I got it I've rooted it and have used only the romow rom.
Currently on the version 7.5 HD.
BB: LA4
Kernal: AbyssNote 3.3
Each time I flash a new rom I always do a battery calibration test and even wipe the battery stats on recovery.
I notice people get a full day's use from the battery and maybe even more. Is there something I am missing? My wi-fi is always off unless I am at home or when needed. I turn the data connection off too most of the times. When I look at the battery usage in settings (I do this often), the display shows the most usage, always more than 65%, and nothing else. The android system, android OS, cell standby and whatever else are always less than 10%. Is there something I can do to increase the time the battery lasts? I'd like to get a full day's worth, and even more
Use black backgrounds and dark apps? Amoleds don't use power to display black. Whites will suck your battery dry.

Recently i visited a samsung service centre. I asked the engineer as what kind of problems people have reported in the note other than screen issues and he said battery issues and people ve got their batteries replaced. Maybe u want to get urs checked.

I would also suggest get your battery checked. But more than likely, Samsung will say 15-16 hours of moderate use is normal.
I am currently using Rocket ROM v20 with Abyss 3.5b. I have had it without charge for 12 hours now and from 100% it is at 82% right now. So far today I have watch an ep of anime (22mins long), gaming for 1.5 hours, had 4 phone calls (total of 42 mins). I think only draining 18% after all of that is impressive.

That is impressive. If I watch a 40 min show only, my battery would go down from 100% to 65. And if I play a game for an hour (depends on the cpu/ram usage the game takes up to), then my battery is at 20%. And this has been since the beginning. The moderate use I am talking about is calls here and there, texting, playing a game for maybe 20 min. Like today I played Shadowgun for a total of an hour, where's my water for 20 min, and texted a bit, made 2 calls, and used dolphin browser for 10 min. It hasnt even been 12 hours and my battery is at 20%. Ahhh I think I just need to get a new battery.
I know roms/kernals/basebands all factor into battery usage as well, so are there any suggestions as to which one might be good with this? Aesthetically I love romow's rom. I love every layout of it. Rocket rom is a little too "in your face" kind of, atleast for me.
Im always set my brightness to 0% and im not using auto brightness. What if you change the kernel to FM 2.0 Kernel. i find it saves more batt than abyss kernel.

Time to get one of these: 4500mAh battery for Galaxy Note
Also try to use Go Launcher's task killer and low usage of 3G.

I actually like the "in your face" look, of course that is my preference. I heard that checkrom is good for battery but in all honesty, I have tried a couple of roms and there isn't a huge difference between them. The biggest difference with battery usage I have notice is when you start using a OCing app with profiles like SetCPU. Tweak the power usage with each speed step and create profiles for when the screen is off, on call and etc.

How hot does it get compared to room temp? 15C warmer? 20C warmer?
I'd really love to work with some people to come up with a step by step guide on how to track down and fix battery drain / over heat problems.
The best way to waste power is to make heat with radio chip and GPU. Second best is to make light with torch or screen.
I know with the change in battery technology, some old practice no longer applies but I still follow the old rule of thumb when I get a new equipment.
When I got my Note, the very first thing I did was charge the phone for 12 hours before actually using it. You might want to give that a shot, the reading on the battery may not always be correct.

may i know which governor are you using? try to update the AbyssNote kernel to latest v3.5c and try either the AbyssPlug, lulzactive or SmartassV2 governor then see if there's any difference
Running stock LA4 ROM here. Brightness usually on lowest. If you don't touch the phone, it can last on standby a week. See below how it only lost 3% after 17 hours. Of course as the screen was off all the time, the internal processes take most of the power consumed.
After more than 1 day I still have 50% battery. See how it drops fast when I'm using the phone to read and download web pages.
I have the self same issue - battery hardly lasts a day - I just about manage to get home 8 hours later on critical - to hook it up to mains to charge.
All I use it during the course of the day - is browsing forums via tapatalk, viewing the occasional email. No hectic media consumption and music playing.
I am trying a different route now - it was running on stock firmware - over the weekend I've taken the following steps.
Rooted my device , installed CheckRom Revo v5 , running speedmod kernel with modem LA4
Hoping to see how that improves things.

First of all, you should post a screen shot of your battery graph.
How bright is your screen? If it's at 100%, then you're going to chew through battery very fast.
Games that require very high cpu usage will kill the battery.
Some games I can play forever on - some games, like Plants vs zombies, or puzzle quest 2, kill the battery. I can probably get 3-4 hours worth on a battery, and that's with a very low screen brightness. That's the price to pay with a fast cpu.
Dolphin is quite the battery hog too. I try to avoid it - I browse for hours with opera mobile, especially with the green on black mod.

I use the ondemand governor usually with overclocked to 1600. The only profile I have set is the temperature over-heat (temperature above 104 F, 40.3 C) and i've set it to conservative with max cpu to 1200. Whats the best app for battery statistics? I will get the graph and post a screenshot tm. My brightness is usually 50 % set in the middle always. Today I put my brightness all the way down to 0, I literally did not use my phone, maybe turned it on couple times during the day for 2 min, sent 1 text, played a game for 5 min, and used a medical application for 10 min, just to check the battery. With that much minimal amount of phone usage, after about 9 hours my battery was at 79%. Is that normal?
Just wanted to say thanks for the help also

Install better battery stats and check for kernel wakelocks. If there exists some that last longer than 10 mins then some app is involved in the battery leak

Hi all.
I'm experiencing some sort of battery leak, but nothing is jumping out at me. Went to bed ~ 95% and woke up to ~ 20%.
Battery Use Stats:
Cell Standby - 44% (TWS - 0%)
Phone Idle - 45%
Voice Calls - 6%
Display - 3%
Dialer - 2%
Here is the software info:
Firmware - 2.1 Fresh Toast
Baseband - 2.42.00.03.10
PRI - 1.70_003
PRL - 60664
Running OC Widget on detect settings & autokiller on aggressive.
Using SpareParts - Partial Wake Usage - Calendar has the largest bar above Android System (yet I really don't use the calendar for appointments).
Any thoughts/tips/tricks would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Jerry
I'm assuming you have reboot the phone?
In addition, on your OC widget what your setting for screen on and screen off?
I'm still playing with setting that best for me and the phone. However, this is my current setting for OC widget: for screen on 729600 for min and Max and screen off 245760 for min and max. I saw if I did't select differ freq for screen off, the CPU was run at same speed at screen on. Compare the 2.1.1 I'm getting average 8-10 hr of battery. I'm guessing OC might drain battery faster. Maybe I'm wrong.
Yes, I have rebooted since loading. I used the auto-detect settings for the OC Widget, but I guess that could be an issue. 8-10 hours of battery seems low to me? I was getting near 24hrs average (some higher, some lower) on Fresh 2.0d.
Here are the settings:
OC Widget Settings:
Screen On - 245760,384000
Screen Off - 245760,384000
I guess that could be an issue.

Strange I have mine set higher than your for screen on.
Still battery hr for me. I know 2.1.1 I was getting at least a day an half with moderate use.
Like abcdfv said what your awake and uptime?
Up time: 20:35
Awake time: 5:57
Awake time looks good.
Try this setting on your OC widget:
480000 min and 576000 max. It may or may not help.
Thanks for all of your help.
Would this be for both screen on & off?
Screen on.
For screen off I have mine set at 245760 for min and max. So far battery life is OK. Since unplug at 7:45 AM (100%) and now it at 66%. Few calls, web surfing and facebook. Roughly 1 hr 20 mins usage of phone and 4hr 30 mins standby. I know compare to 2.1.1 it not great battery life.
Thanks - I'll try that.
So far, I might head back to Fresh 2.1.1 if this battery life stays like it is running Fresh Toast.
You could also try running RegawMod, I have had noting but good to say about the ROM so far and battery life is wonderful! I use Strict I think on ak though., stay around 60MB free ram if that helps at all.
Thanks for the help. I decided to factory wipe, wipe SD and cache. I then flashed Fresh 2.1.1 and my battery life is back to normal. Might play with Fresh Toast some more later.
Thanks for all of your help.
OK...so MUCH THANKS to Mr. Carlisle for gettin me all squared away with rooting my Hero and upgrading to Froyo 2.2. All back ups complete, apps downloaded and only major bug thus far is the camera...SO....why is my battery running at 105 degrees on average? What should the normal range be? I turn it on @ 6 am after charging to 100% and wiping battery stats and ten hours later recharge it to 100% (Currently @ 50%) and all day the temp has been between 103 and 105. whycome? HELP!

Because on FRF91 on Cyanogen mod (which i assume you are using) is overclocked to 710 mhz, where the hero's processor runs at 528 normally. My suggestion is to download an app called overclock widget from the market, (Obviously, it's a widget and you'll have to add it to your homescreen) and set the minimum and maximum clock (processor) speed to 240mhz(min) and 518mhz [or 534, if you want to, but it won't make much difference] (max).
You can set the max (or minimum) clock speed to be more or less. Lower clock(processor) speed=More lag but better battery life, and potential to freeze your hero because the processor can't operate the system fast enough. Higher clock(processor) speed= Faster and less lag but less battery life and can damage your touch screen (It's happened to me). if you leave it at too high a clock speed for too long, and can also freeze your phone because your processor can't operate at that speed and crashes your phone.
It's up to you if you want to overclock or not, but you should keep it resonable, and if you have heavy phone usage, don't go much further than 613 mhz for your max. There is also another program called set cpu that is avalible for free for xda members, but is a paid app on the market. Using that, you can set your frequencies to the default hero processor, or of other phones. But overclocking over 710mhz could do some harm to your phone, so be careful.
If you say, "I wonder if this will damage my phone," then don't take the chance without asking around first.
If you have any more questions about overclock, pm me, and I can help you out.
That temperature range, ~40C is completely normal when charging and using at the same time (with me, anyway). I'm OC'ed to 710 and using undervolt, too. The highest I've ever seen mine go is 43C, or about 109F. I don't really know where the "danger zone" is, but if I had to guess it would be around 48C or higher.
Edit: I reread your post, and do you mean it's at 40C always, even when it's sitting doing nothing? If that's the case then follow Ryoma Echizen's advice and fine-tune your CPU speed.
Has anyone underclocked their O2X? I personally think that overclock is a bit of a placebo effect so I just want to know if anyone has underclocked their phone and if they can kindly share the performance of the phone as well as some benchmarks. I've seen people underclock their Galaxy S2 right down to 500mhz and performance is very smooth! Is O2X similar?
I didn't do any benchmarks (speaking of placebo effect ) but I use setcpu with vorkkernel so that my top frequency gets more and more limited with the battery level and overnight. This way I manage to only loose 1-2% during the night and the phone alive for a couple of hours when under 15%.
I noticed a certain UI lag when under 500mhz but not so much in the graphics department, I guess the gpu has it's own clock.
I have underclock/undervolt to 800Mhz/900mV and works very smoothly
just got setcpu... those profiles are awesome
Lg home is a memory hog and seems to be quite cpu intensive compared to most other home apps but if using a dif homescreen then maybe it will still perform smoothly otherwise i doubt it will perform good.
Hi... I have installed cynogenmod 7.1 Stable. In Performance > CPU Settings, it shows 216/1000MHz as the only available frequency. I installed SetCPU, it closes saying some error.
Can you please tell me what I have to do, basically I want to underclock it for battery issues.
Thanks
Just undervolted all default values by 100mV, stress test running perfect. CPU at 52C on a 18ish ambient day.
I have 3 setcpu profiles on stock.
In call : 312/216
Screen off : 216/216
Battery <100% : 760/216
Getting amazing stand by time, 2h 30m since I unplugged the charger and only 1% battery spent.
Getting decent results during use as well, or atleast thats what I call it. Earlier today I went through 400+ google reader articles over wifi and watch accompanying youtube videos and also checked some external links. After about 30 mins I lost 7-10% battery. I think thats good enough, unless someone here is about to blow my mind with their results
3h and 30m now still at 99%.
5 minutes of evernote and battery at 95% now. Sooo unsatisfying.

battery life is about 24h of normal use.
I always connected to wifi.
oh, and I replace LG Home Launcher with Xperia Launcer.
it's lighter, no lag even use lower clock speed.
So just inherited my dads OG Droid. Currently rooted and runs Steel Droid (Mod Version 9000) and 2.6.32.9_RZ Kernel.
Phone is overclocked to 1GHz (125/1000 ONDEMAND).
Like the title says, the phone gets about 5 hours and then hit's 5% and keeps asking me to charge. If I charge it overnight and unplug it when it's 100%, it'll hit 90% idling (while I sleep) about 3 hours later.
Running Programs:
DSPManager
Words Free
Facebook
3D Digital Weather Cloc
News & Weather
3G Watchdog
Videos
SoundHound
Pandora
Temp+CPU V2
Now out of all the running apps, Pandora, Soundhound, News & Weather, 3G Watchdog, Temp+CPU, 3D Digital Clock are all widgets. Temp+CPU and 3D Digital clock are the only ones that actually run, the rest are just there in case I want to use them.
These stats today are from using Pandora for about an hour over Wifi.
Any ideas? Phone runs fine most of the time but I have seen the occasional lag where you have to click something 10 times before it opens.
I used to have a pretty big problem with battery life too, but even though I think they are somewhat silly and annoying the Easy Battery Saver app helped me quite a bit.
Wifi and using the speakers are heavy on battery life. Not sure how much difference it will make but try consolidating your widgets and app shortcuts to as few screens as possible.
Also your CPU governor might be set to something that lets the phone hog through anything at the sacrifice of battery. When i set my CPU to Performance my phone runs like a boss, while setting it to battery saver I get a little more lag but more battery, obviously. Not sure how/if your ROM will let you change that but it's something to look into.
I got it set to On Demand which might be the issue. The kernel is a low voltage kernel. How do ultra low voltage kernels run?
I did a battery calibration, downloaded Advanced Task Killer (Battery saver didn't work well, I'd always have an issue with 3G not activating) and got rid of all my widgets. Currently charging it up completely, I'll check it out tomorrow.
So the title is incorrect, it says 5 hours and 5% left. I checked the battery info at 5%. It said 4hr 4x min. About 10 minutes later it shut off so I didn't even get 5 hours to a full charge.
I don't have high expectations but coming from an Alias 2 that had the extended battery (I'd get a week of battery with my use), this is pretty disappointing.
Well I can tell you now, ondemand is NOT good for battery, what that governor does is make it so the CPU will go from MIN to MAX speed slots depending on what the phone needs, AFAIK it doesn't scale with need, it just goes to max. So your phones CPU was running at max most the time which kills battery.
Can't say anything about your ROM, but I use simply stunning 5.6 http://www.droidforums.net/forum/chevyno1/177728-ss-5-6-2-3-7-incl-1-battery-other-goodies.html Which, with his low voltage 1ghz kernel set to the smartass governor, I get anywhere from 8-14 hours of battery life depending on use. Using ultra low voltage kernels depend on your phone, some phones have trouble overclocking to 800mhz mid-voltage (mid-voltage is considered to be the most stable, but use the most battery), others can overclock to 1.25ghz ultra-low voltage, which is very rare. I would say try out all the different voltage kernels and see which one works best with your phone.
Also task killer = MAJOR MAJOR No no! The task killer will kill the apps, and the android OS will restart them, using more CPU time and making the battery actually not last as long, I would recommend learning how to use the supercharger script http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Can't say much about the majority of programs you have running, but I've found facebook does not like to play nice with the Droid, also, why use the 3D clock when the Droid comes with a built in-clock app? Pandora uses a lot of battery, so running it w/ the ondemand governor is probably what hurt your battery there.
Not many Droid users left out there, but I was and still am an extremely avid Droid user, so if you have any more questions just shoot me a PM and I'll help as much as I can.
Thanks! I got rid of all my widgets and installed Chevy's ultra low voltage 1.1GHz kernel on smartass. I lost 20% battery pretty fast but let's see how long it runs. I've had no force close issues so far. I'm a bit tempted to go to 1.2GHz ulv.
How much does the ROM have to do with battery life? I really love this ROM and it's interface. I thought the battery life really only had to do with kernels.
I also got rid of the clock widget and put a default clock widget. What's the built in Android one? Is that the "Analog Clock"?
Sorry for all these questions, I'm pretty new to Android. Only had this for 2 days (~8-10 recharges...)
Its fine, better to question and learn then to just get mad and over it, and Roms have everything to do with battery, they are just like kernels, some work AMAZING on some phones, while others can destroy battery life.
Like my rom, I found the perfect one for my phone, I get 8- (been thinking about it more) 20 hours of battery life on mine and it has pretty amazing performance too with the occasional hiccup.
And I thought you had the clock app installed for an alarm, not for a widget, my bad. I don't use a clock widget so I wouldn't know.. Also, I've found its not very good to run many widgets on the Droid, as it has limited memory and can only handle so much.
Well I got sick of it and reflashed the entire ROM. CPU governer is set to ONDEMAND 125/1000. Only*widgets I have are a simple clock (like the iPhone lock screen) and power control. Gonna see how it goes. So far so good but I'm saying that because I didn't loose 20% overnight. If I can clear the day, I'm good.
googlelover, what CPU Governer did you find to work the best with your phone?
I have been an Android owner for a while now, with the Droid being my first. Until recently battery life had always been an issue for me. Undervolting has never had an effect over a 20% improvement. And this is only when it's in deep sleep. Otherwise, in very general terms, undervolting can require a higher current aka worse battery life if you use your phone a lot. With undervolting comes the risk of data corruption in your phones memory and SD Card. What really kills your phone is screen on time, wakelocks, CPU overclock, and signal quality.
The last you have no control of. But if you're overclocking 1GHz or higher you have to realize that's almost twice the manufactured clock speed. As far as wakelocks, this is when something keeps your phone from going into a low power state. This can happen because of a rogue app, a buggy ROM, or having too many widgets. I ran into a ROM a while ago on my Fascinate that would stay awake if you had GPS enabled. The best you can do with your display power usage is to keep your brightness down. Hope this explains a few things
have the same issue

I already told you, the smartass governor, and like I said before, ondemand is not a good governor in my opinion. There are way to many factors in battery life to have anyone else be able to truly help you with it, all our phones are different and it really just takes time switching kernels, switching ROMs, etc to find what works with your phone
Sorry googlelover, I forgot you already said that.
So update guys. I've been going a day (so like 18 hours) of use after which it finally hits the 15% warning.
What I did:
Basically I reflashed the ROM and started from scratch. Before reflashing, I wiped the user data/cache/davick cache etc at least twice just to make sure it was really wiped.
I reflashed SteelDroid 9.0 with the default chevyno1 lv 1ghz kernel and gave it a go with just a simple clock widget. Worked well. One by one, I'm starting to install applications until I can figure out what was draining the battery fast. So far, so good. If I can get 18 hours on a 2 year old battery, I'm going to be doing fine with my extended battery.
One thing I did notice was that the phone back by the camera (where CPU is) isn't getting as hot as it used to. Makes me think that the phone was at a high clock speed in sleep. Another issue may have been my CPU temp/speed monitor. It was probably poling the CPU stats every second which made the phone increase the CPU speed because it sensed activity.
Try out the ROM I'm using. I absolutely love it. The interface is phenomenal and it runs very well.

(remove the spaces to see it, I wasn't able to post links normally because I don't have enough overall posts).
There's probably other ROMS that run better like the one googlelover is using, but I can't use the default Android interface anymore after using this.

Don't forget not many roms have the default android interface, many have themes to completely change the look, if your happy where your phone is, great! But if you ever feel like your phone is slowing down again, I'd still recommend looking around and flashing some different roms.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'm only using this phone for another couple months. I'll be getting the Droid 4 when it comes out. Looks like a really nice phone.
Hey guys,
I just wondered if you guys have the same problem that you lose 1% battery every 2 minutes when you´re having your display on. I know it´s quite known that big screens suck the battery like a vampire but that´s just odd, because I don´t even have to do anything with the phone just staring at the activated display.
I´ve had these troubles from the beginning with FW 10G then updatet to 10H and did factory reset- nothing changed. I tried different brightness levels without any differences in battery consumption, which is totally uncommon. And the freaky thing is there is no difference whether I have airplanemod on, wifi turned off and so on. It is always the same... Although when the display is off there is as good as no consumption but really 1% battery per 2 minutes that´s just sick. I can´t believe it.
Now i wondered if this is normal or if I should turn it to the customers service to check it.
Please tell me if you explored the same things with your LG 4X HD
Well i found it odd too but if you would root the phone and install something like setcpu you would actually see
Min CPU Freq --------------- 1.5 GHz
Max CPU Freq -------------- 1.5 Ghz
Er yeah .... after saying that i think you know why its using the battery so fast. I rooted my brothers phone and changed the clockspeeds , but no matter how low i set the min freq on "no frills cpu control" it always shows on the toast message 750 Mhz or somewhere around that.

Well thank you... I´ve rooted it and thought it had something to do with apps running in the background but it didn´t help at all so I thought this can´t be, mine must be wrong somehow.
Especially because i haven´t heard anything in reviews or forums about this rapid battery drain. This is something I´m wondering most, how can a phone taking so much battery be rated so high It sucked 3% watching a 3 minute video on youtube...
I won´t think I´m going to be happy with this phone and the best is when I contacted customers service later today they told me to send it in because its not normal, but now that you said the cpu is set this high no matter what, I can just suggest they don´t know anything about their phones...
Bet the only reward I get sending it in is "all is fine our phone likes to suck your battery, so what? Just keep the display off"
Screen off "deep sleep" battery drain is quite bad too ..

For me. The battery says its fully charged after 1hr. But it actually takes 3-4hrs befire it reaches the absolute full capacity.
Battery lasts twice as long then...
