Ok here it goes...
Ive come to the conclusion by having no luck with my previous thread which was asking how to fix " the usb is not recognized" after trying everything known to man and reading every thread that this is kind of a grey area. If your problem isnt obvious ie: debugging off or new usb cord etc... then ur sol ? I say this because the people who know their stuff are extremely detailed and make insanely great write-ups.
FTW can anyone explain or knows how to do this:
Fix the phone so that I can have full usb function ie: when i plug it in the comp wants to install drivers and the phone gives me the option to mount?
If not can someone tell me what choices I have???
To give some info my phone started this after (dont judge why i did this like this lol) installed freshhh 2.0b then the new radio then the new....heroc recov(from reading all day and night im guessing its the recovery)
also the phone will boot in heroc recov and will boot in fastboot but NO ADB sigh. and to take the cake me being frusturated seemed to break the cardinal rule no nandroid backup sigh sigh. basically i just want the usb back in action and fresh 2.0 w/radio. im sorry about the long post but im losin my mind over this. Thanks in advance guys as always every bit counts.
Go into your android dev kit and make sure you have the most current version of the ADB drivers. Are they updated? If so, make sure those are the ones you are using.
I've had similar issues before and I know it's wicked frustrating. Just keep toying with it... sure you'll get it eventually.

this happened to me with my brother's moment. I can't remember if usb debugging had to be on or off but it that is what I messed with to get it to work. Try throttling it on and off... Good luck

yes i have and no it doesnt...
Re-install HTC Sync.. It updates the drivers...
there's some driver incompatibility if you've ever used another device with adb... you have to find the original device, put in dev mode, and overwrite drivers with that of the hero, then plug hero in and try agian.... if that is in fact your problem....
otherwise, htc sync should fix ya

what do you do?
PDAnet for android has some driverS you could try as well...
http://www.junefabrics.com
Yes PDAnet but I also had success with installing HTC Sync for the Eris.
I am using Win7 64bit.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/droid-eris-verizon/downloads/
As per crunchybutternut's suggestion in a different thread, I followed the instructions in this link: hxxp://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/ (sorry, I can't post links yet)
Basically, I downloaded USBDeview and ran it in administrator mode to delete all HTC and Android related drivers (while phone is plugged in).
I then unplugged and plugged the phone back in and it reinstalled everything fine except for the ADB driver, so I told it to let me manually choose a driver from a list, selected Have Disk and pointed it to C:\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver
After that, I just set the phone to HTC Sync mode when plugging it in and it worked fine.

right now im doing alot of sql for companies who want full dbms. But pretty much know a little bit of it all. this is really fun to play with just a lil rough around the edges. i always liked linux tho!
And back to the problem i like the eris suggestion and I did all the rest. My only thought is this why after heroc attempt***???what does heroc do at the core behind being a boot prog what could it mess up or change if not flashed correctly? Thanks guys for the love
First, make sure your phone is NOT connected and open a command prompt. Then type the following command:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
You won't get any sort of output, it just goes to the next line. Then type in devmgmt.msc to open the device manager. Got to VIEW and select "Show Hidden Devices".
Now, expand the ADB Interface section, right click on each device individually, and uninstall. When prompted to delete the driver choose YES!
Go to the HTC Website to download and install the newest version of HTCsync.
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=3&dl_id=852
Once installed it would probably be a good idea to reboot your computer before you connect your HTC Hero. Once the Hero is connected make sure you pull down your notification bar and select HTC Sync or it won't connect for ADB access.
Hope this helps!
I've had this problem before but it was usually after I rooted my hero and had messed around. I've bricked two of them with the RUU trying to fix it. Don't really know why the phones bricked still. Usually I just kept plugging the phone on over and over until it recognized it.
its been a very long while since i updated my phone and used to work fine very slow even when over clocked but fine. the only other thing that happend was very rarely it would restart.
but now the screen wont work all time. it does work some times but not alot. works from reseting the phone. also it may be a loose wire tho because bumping the phone seems to fix it but i think it is just luck that it does.
now the phone is geting calls but nothuing is showing only ringing. i cant even place a call.
what i need to know is what is the latest stable build? and how do i get into the recovery again i cant seem into it again?
im tinking of going back to the original 2.1 but i love the 2.2 only programs ah well i also love haveing a working phone more.
if its a hardware issue simply flashing a new rom wouldnt help i suggest reverting back to stock and take it into a sprint tech store and who knows it could be under warranty still and yes if u flash an ruu theres know way they would ever know it was rooted to begin with.
how do i do this. i can not use adb to push anything to the phone adb wont list the phone in the devices
tutorial i am useing is the stickied one.
how do i revert back to stock
dont see a tutorial but im going to search a bit more
this is old 2.27 official ruu exe when you download it plug your phone into a computer via usb and dont put it in disk mode needs to be charge only im pretty sure then on your computer run the ruu exe and itll update everyhting on your phone and please make sure u have a stable usb cord that wont get disconected easily because all the updates should take around 10-15 min after that youll be on the stock sprint software then u can just update everyhting on your phone by pressing menu settings about phone and software updates but please note that once u runn the ruu you will not be rooted anymore but you can still root easily via z4root after u update everything should u feel the need to thats all.
http://www.4shared.com/file/2uQunBaV/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html
thats the download link to the ruu.
thank you the one i was trying wouldnt load in hboot once my phone boots ill try this
yea with this all u need to do is plug your phone into a computer and run the ruu exe and it does everything for you i just couldnt find the right 2.3 ruu but u can still update everything the normal way after this
is there a certain way i connect it because it keeps giving me error 170 usb connection error
edit could it be that i am running 64 bit 7
When it gives you the 170 error with Win7, disconnect and reconnect the usb and re-run the program
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
still no go. i did have an error installing sync because i have a 64 bit 7 OS is there a 64 sync install?
one that works because the one that was suppost to work messed up also
I've got 32-bit, sorry I'm not sure if there is a different procedure for 64-bit
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
Have you tried a different USB cable? Beyond that, way back when I used HTC sync it was on 64 bit windows 7 fine with no issues. I don't even have it installed now and it ruus fine. If a cable doesn't resolve it, then maybe you just need to delete your USB root hub and force it to redetect USB devices
~maybe I set it too high...

Basically, I have posted this exact same problem here months ago, but with not a lot of help. I came here to get help and I intend of leaving with a bit of some. Basically, I rooted my HTC One, turned S-On, and finally installed Cyanogen Mod. Everything was working for the most part. I remember being able to attach my phone to my PC and being able to transfer files over to my phone. Recently that has been working out so well. I try to transfer files from my PC to my phone, such as music/videos/etc, but my phone doesn't show up. I can go to device manager and see my HTC One under other devices with the caution triangle, so basically my device is read to be connected to my PC but is lacking the drivers to use it. Like I said before, I have posted this problem on other forums before, and I have been sent the link to the drivers. I've installed HTC drivers, USB drivers, HTC One Sync, and so much more, but none of that has worked. All that happens is that my phone will connect to my PC, charge, be noticed by the PC but is completely unusable from PC to phone. On the phones side, it's 100% okay. No problems other than the simple nightly bugs, but I know it's the ROM version I am using. I reverted to the last known stable Cyanogen Mod, and the one previous to that. That hasn't fixed the problem as well. I'm running out of idea's and I'm just looking for some help. If you can help, rather then posting a link for drivers and thinking I'm retarded, please do so. I will appreciate it to the fullest. As for that, that is all I have to say. Please help, and all help is appreciated.

Ok,
I think the best thing we can to in this case is the classic troubleshooting.
Try different USB Cables, slots on your PC, DON'T connect it to a USB HUB (I think you already know that.. I just mentioned it to ensure that)
Make a backup and flash the stock Sense ROM
If you can get a connection to your PC .. Cyanogen causes this issue
That was to determine wheter it's your phone or your computer that causes this issue. Pretty basic.
Uninstall your drivers from the device manager interface
Uninstall everything that is related to your HTC One(HTCSync, maybe Kies or other programs like this, Every driver)
Now, make a registry clean to reinstall everything on a clean way
Use Wise Registry Cleaner
Proceed a computer reboot
Now, download the latest version of HTC Sync
Install it with every driver component.
Then uninstall HTC Sync WITHOUT the drivers
Plug in your phone and wait until other drivers are installed
If that's done, try if the connection works
I have a Windows 8.1 laptop and can no longer connect my HTC One so I've decided to use Linux to use ADB to change the shell so I could run a RUU on Windows to get my phone on a stock rom... That is my level of understanding of what I want to do, but I cannot find the "code" to use in Terminal to get ADB to work... I have booted Ubunto Desktop to my usb but I havn't installed the OS, just "try"ed it... I don't know if that is an issue or not. Here are the links I have tried to use to get this to work... Which should I be following, or even better, does anybody have a step by step guide of how to get adb to work so i can finally fix this phone...

Honestly the best thing to use is a Windows 7 PC.. Anyways, what's wrong with your phone? Does it reboot every 30 seconds?
Also, there are ways to get adb working on windows 8.1, if you're like me and don't have a windows 7 computer at home all the time
Finally, you stated that it won't connect to your 8.1 PC. Do you get any error at that time? Do you have the latest HTC drivers installed? Is your cable good?
Sorry if I wrote a lot, just trying to get you up and running.
EDIT: I GOT THE PC TO SEE MY HTC ONE!!!!!!
sry for the caps, but I soft bricked my phone back in April... ( i took a lil break from fixing it... just like 2 months lol) but I just followed this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559200 and apparently I have to disable driver sigs every time i start up? Idk cause I've dont that before but whatever, did it again, and used the adb drivers from the link and now Im connected... Decided to go balls to the wall and skip the stock rom, and straight to Viper 6.2... so after I finish the download I"ll let you know what happened...

Umm, I think that link somehow got me this youtube vid, which had the link for the adb drivers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUjQnwULGzs
But that's the drivers I used to get my phone working on Windows 8.1...
Edit 2: Well i was able to sideload ViperOne to my phone and... it continues to reset itself... So a similar problem but now at least the phone is seen as One now, not some random usb device... and even the Internal Storage pops up when plugged in.... So now i'll prob go ahead and run the stock RUU... see if that helps any
well, as the title says. Its been like this for a few months now, so I decided reinstall the ROM. I've tried different ROMs and every time it shows up as SM-N900s (Galaxy Note 3) in windows. However, on the phone under settings, it says HTC One. On the newest insertcoin ROM it came up in windows as HTC ONE on first boot, but after that, it went back to being the SM-N900s. As well, I always make sure to do a full wipe before I install a new ROM. I checked the build.prop and it list the model ID as HTC ONE so I have no clue what could be going on here. maybe someone here has a suggestion? I'm thinking maybe this is a possible cause of my mediaserver problem that I just couldn't fix, since it happened in every rom I've tried. phone is rooted, unlocked, and S-OFF.

Its most likely a driver issue on your computer, nothing to do with the phone imo. Uninstall these Samsung drivers and install HTC drivers.
didn't work. removed all traces of samsung drivers and software from the drive and the registry, but still comes up as SM-N900s. I Don't get it. There must be some root cause that's creating all the strange (though minor) issues on my phone.
@bbmaster123 install the latest HTC sync manager after uninstalling every older driver version.. do a full reset if that's possible. Do you end up having this problem with every custom Rom that you flash?
It's not a widely reported issue which leads me to thinking that it's more about your computer than your phone.
Still says sm-n900s after installing sync manager. While I haven't tried many custom roms, it still said smn900s in all the rims I've tried, regardless of kitkat or lollipop. I'll try using my brothers laptop tomorrow when he comes to visit and let you know how it goes

Thanks, I never would have found that!
My phone already comes up as My HTC in device manager when running normally. in any other mode it comes up as android composite usb. It does try and fail to install some driver during boot though, however it only lasts for about 3 seconds, so I have no time to install anything. as well, fastboot boot recovery.img never worked for me anyway, so instead I always just flashed my recoveries. So I can't get my computer to trigger that driver installer besides rebooting the phone, unless you know a way. But yeah, you may be right about it being my pc and not my phone (for this problem anyway).

Ignore that HTC MTP driver thing that pops up on you computer whilst your phone is booting, we all get that.
fastboot boot recovery command no longer works unless you are on HBOOT 1.44 I think was the last time it worked, only way to do it now is to flash recovery files.

Get yourself into device manager and add/remove programs, and remove everything to do with your HTC, the trouble is, windows is a pain for still remembering and self installing the driver again upon reboot, so before you restart your computer, unplug your phone, restart your computer, and look up or get a driver cache cleaner for you PC, run that then restart again, now try reinstall the drivers, drivers firtst ie HTC Sync Manager and then plug your phone in.
I finally fixed it just by uninstalling HTC driver installer and plugging my phone back in. windows right away installed:
USB Composite device
HTC One
My HTC
usb mass storage device
HTC Sync manager serial interface
HTC Android Phone USB Device
I probably am going to fresh install windows anyway, been meaning to for a while, but at least I got this one solved. thanks for the help seanie!
I guess I should make new individual threads for my other phone problems, eh? I got the mediaserver battery drain issue, ACR doesn't record anymore for some reason, and the music controls on my lock screen stopped functioning.

I guess your on Lollipop, The media server issue can be sorted by going into settings - developer options - use NuPlayer (experimental), uncheck it and restart, not sure about the other issues, but it may be worth reflashing your rom and starting fresh.
As for re-installing Windows, prepare for Windows 10 or download the beta of it, when it goes RTM you can use your windows 7 or 8 key to activate it, and it totally rocks, ive been using it as my main driver now for 3 months.
I'm running kitkat (I like it better) and that option isn't under developer options. The only options I've changed under there are enabling usb debugging(but of course) and force gpu rendering. also using dalvik instead of ART, since in kitkat it was buggy, from what I've heard. I do want to also start a fresh install of the same rom, but I just haven't found the time. I did try reinstalling the rom and restoring my data with Titanium Backup, but it just ended up restoring the problem too. For now, I've just been using system tuner to kill mediaserver right after boot, and the problem goes away until next boot.
I have windows 10 build 10130 on another drive and have been testing it since the first TP, and I agree, its pretty sweet, but I'm not 100% sure yet that I'm gonna switch over to it as my main OS on my main PC. I will be definitely updating my windows 8.1 recording computer to Windows 10 as soon as it goes RTM.

Not heard of the media server bug on KitKat soz.
Still don't like the Windows 10 start menu live tiles, but Start10 fixes that.
I've been using classic start, but I always have to keep switching back to the stock start to launch modern apps, which I only barely use, just stuff like calculator and settings

bit off topic really, but see the picts below:
cool, then I'll have to give it a try. Much more like the win7 start menu than win10's stock menu.
