best kernel??? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys,
im new 2 nexus one and this forum....
can somebody tell me which is the best kernel for batery life and network connection..
thank you.!

I would recommend intersectRavens kernel.
Repo located here: intersectRaven Repository
.33.4 are the most stable
.34 are experimental right now but offer more speed/response. Only issue right now with 33.4 is you can't unmount SD once you mount.

how about pershoots?

never tried it. I've loved IntersectRaven's and he literally makes updates to it almost daily. sometimes twice a day lol. I haven't found a reason to switch. Battery life and performance is great.

I would like some guidance as well. Ive just discovered Raven's kernel and i have no idea which to download. What is BFS and CFS? 800 and 950 isnt that much of a difference is it? So which do you guys recommend and why?

925mV CFS is the most stable.... try BFS (faster but expermental) if it works for you, stick with it... it not, switch to CFS.

I like pershoot's kernels. Are intersects OC'd?

[kernel] Dragon based on 959d source

This is based on the 959d source, hopefully closer to our phones and hopefully better on battery. It's using the same patches as the Dragon kernel posted earlier, speedmod, oc, fast scaling, voodoo sound.
Stock clock: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7320380/Dragon-Kernel-959d-v1.0.zip
OC 1.28Ghz: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7320380/Dragon-Kernel-959d-OC-v1.0.zip
These should be considered experimental. I have run them both for about an hour, so far so good.

The internal memory is not mounting at all. It is not mounted by the phone or by the PC.
Seems like a good idea. Flashing now.
This kernel is injected with voodoo, correct?

After I flashed this I soft bricked and could not get back into cwm but I used odin flashable voodoo kernel and everything was fine I'm going to try this again
I used the Dragon kernel from the i9000 source. The OC version never worked, but the non-OC version worked extremely well.
Same issue it appears with the 959d source. i don't have issues with other OC kernels...any ideas why this would be happening?

You need to run the BLN control app. It was supposed to be installed with the kernel. Just open the app and "Activate BLN". If the app wasn't installed for you, you can download it here.

It's probably the type of OC, they aren't all the same. If you have an OC mod that works good for you, and you want to see it in my kernel or any other, you need to get that dev to release the source. Some don't, and I can't reproduce what they do if I don't have the code. This OC is based on a patch from the i9000 forums, it works, but is less universal than some of the others on Vibrant hardware.
For the record, my source is posted here: https://github.com/travistabbal
I'm uploading the source for the 959d kernels now.
Great work
I think u actully did it with this one, the battery seems to be way better then the last 2.7 kernel. Im running oc and voodo

Overclock for Darky´s v10 RC6?

I want to overclock my SGS, and I´m running Darky´s ROM v10, Gingebread 2.3.3

I recommend Talon Kernel ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057705 ). It doesn't have a few usefull for me features (like swap or compcache) but work perfectly. It's very stable.

Sounds good, but any chances on overclocking over 1.2 GHz?
If u wish to do that i'd reccomend you to switch to a cm7 based rom and install tk-glitch kernel, that supports overclock up over to 1.5GHz
PD: si, soy el guzmanus de eol, el mundo es un pañuelo xD
I had Darky´s v10 RC6 and talon Kernel and it worked incredibly.
Regards.
Actually all ROMs based on Cyanogen's mod are very unstable. Actually they are only for ppl who know how to create workarounds (or repair) some of problems. I don't recommend these roms and kernels. Maybe in June/July these ROMs will be enough stable to daily usage
From what I know actually developers of Talon Kernel are working towards increased overclocking. They created patch that support overclocking to 1,3 GHz but it was deleted day after (probably it was bugged ). I think we should wait.
Btw... Is it worth to overclock CPU? Actually all apps and games can't fully utilize 1 GHz CPU.

This is not true at all! I've been using CM7 for a week now OC'd at 1.5 without any issues. The only niggle was setting up the voltages for the OC, but other than that it's very stable and doesn't get the credit it deserves!
Also, the devs are very helpful and have their own Q&A thread if anything does for wrong (which for me it hasn't).
It's defiantly been stable enough for daily use IMHO since the 06/05Nightly build. & battery life isn't that bad either (~70% of stock) which I expect can only improve with releases esp as the devs admit the sleep code is a bit faulty.
I'm not saying everyone should jump on it, but I wouldn't just dismiss straight away. Give it a try & you may be pleasantly surprised
Anyway, shouldn't this be in the Q&A section and not development?
I used CM7 nightly build a few days ago and It wasn't working properly. I'm checking every week a new builds looking for "stable" version. I have problems with making a call to anyone, problems with mount external microsd card and more. I haven't tested OC because I don't need it. It's true that CM devs are very helpfull I'm still waiting for version which will be stable for me, and all features which I need will work properly. I have CM ROM on my old HTC G1, and this ROM was amazing so I still wait for stable build for SGS

That's curious. Did you check the Kernel wiper you're supposed to use each time you flash/upgrade? It supposedly gets rid of most issues. Anyway, I guess maybe I just got lucky with it working well for me then.

Those problems you talk about are mostly produced because of wrong bootloaders, specially if you come from a gingerbread ROM. Try flashing froyo bootloaders and then using CM7, it is awesomely stable

[Kernel][OC][11/24/11]The Doom Kernel V0.3 BETA

Doom Kernel V0.3
Apparently on the Xperia forums DooMLord has a kernel out called DooMKernel as well. This is in no way affiliated with that. I may change mine to Doom Boot or Doomed Kernel but for now he asked me to make a note like this so here it is.
First, I would like to give a big THANKS to Echts for helping me with repacking the boot.img and get this thing bootable...
Second, THANKS to tekahuna for the OC modules
This kernel contains OC and non OC versions. Speed tweaks, memory tweaks and network tweaks have been included after V0.1. All the non OC versions include all the tweaks.
V0.3 Now increases SDcard read write cache from 128kb to 4096kb
I appreciate any feedback I can get from this. It will work with ANY FROYO rom this is NOT a GB kernel.
How to install:
1) Download
2) Flash in CWM
3) Enjoy your OC kernel

CHANGELOG
V0.3 Added SDcard Read/Write speed increase
V0.2 Added lowmemorykiller settings
Added ADJ tweaks
Added Network tweaks
Tweaked Wifi supplicant scan settings in kernel itself
No more lags when installing apps from market.
V0.1 Stock Kernel with OC at 1.18GHz
I tip my hat to you sir. Looking forward to tinkering with kernel code and working on optimizations along the way.
What's the maximum overclock rate? 1.5GHz?
Will thus also work on Thriller rom?

Nooooo as of right now, testing tekahuna's modules, 1.23Ghz was as far as I could push without reboots and FC's.
Sorry forgot to mention that. Right now it is at what tekahuna calls the sweet spot of 1188MHz or 1.18GHz. That is the max as this is just a test speeds will increase slowly. Other tweaks and features will be added slowly.

Yes it will work with any of the thrill roms should work with O3D roms as well AS LONG AS IT IS FROYO this will not work on GB it is a froyo only kernel. Any rom in the Thrill development section will be fine.
How did you manage to get the boot.img repacked? I started trying to use mkimage instead of mkbootimg but to no avail. I have tinkered with all the different settings. Basically I'm just curious what you put for -a , -e , -d , and -C , because I can't get mine to repack. Also, how did you order the various inputs. Because, I just keep getting a usage output. And when I don't get that and it seems to run, still no new boot.img is created.
Thanks.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
I will be writing up a nice tutorial here soon. You have to edit unpack-bootimg.pl and like you said the mkimage command has to be just right. Once you get it down the unpacking and repacking is a snap takes no time. It's the adjusting things and what not that becomes the most work.
Beta version 0.2 now contains OC at same clock speed (will release different clock speeds once testing phase is done) also has adjustments to lowmemorykiller, adj, network speeds. Slowly but surely moving along don't want to do too much at once just tweaking a bit then test, tweak a bit more then test. Safest route.
Thank you!
Word. A good how to is definitely needed for working with the Thrill Boot.img. I figured that it couldn't be too difficult. I just feel like i have tried every possible combination for the repacking. But im sure i am just missing something simple. Im assuming the Unpack edit is to change the initial data stripping from 2048 to 76? For now im gonna just include your boot.img that you posted here in my rom im working on (as long as that is cool with you...).
Props to you though for figuring it out...
And thanks to Echts and others for their assistance...
Thanks dude!
So glad that the thrill development scene is finally starting to take off!
Please do, anything I release is free and open to use. That's why we are here right?
And I didn't figure the repack out, it was armcee (sp?) Ricardo that figured it out, he just merely passed the info down the line it finally made it to me lol I actually gave credit to Echts over on O3D forum because he passed the info on to me.
I have to say, the V0.2 kernel definitely speeds things up. Apps run faster, load faster, it's nice... very nice. This is what I have been waiting for, kernel tweaking.

Testing the new Kernel, so far i love it, running SetCPU to keep tabs on CPU... Excellent job @Urabewe
cant wait to see if we can get more frequencies to test the OMAP4 processor... make this phone FLY!!!
nice kernel man but Battery drain seems a little high. well it is a no brainer when OC it take more battery power
Yes it's still a work in progress I did notice a bit of extra drain, I am going to release another kernel that's is not OC but contains the speed boosts. I'm hoping that will cure a bit of the battery problem while still keeping the what I think is incredible speed boost.
Also, can anyone else confirm that the delay/lag while installing apps from the market is basically gone with governor on hotplug max at 1188? I have installed about 5 apps and was trying to see how bad the lag was and didn't really experience any.
Well it's official I am calling it a feature... no more lags when installing from market. Phone remains nice and smooth. This kernel combined with Doomed Froyo Slim (which btw includes this kernel in the rom) has no lags and if you can find any lags in any programs or with the launcher let me know.

Most battery efficient version of Cyanogenmod

I've come to find that Cyanogenmod isn't very battery efficient but are there any roms based upon that can compare with a rom based on stock, like Zeus or Marvel? Thanks
I have used nearly all of the CM7 releases from idk, i guess end of february to date except for the last nightlies and the best battery/performance ratio was acheived in (don't know if I can post the link, so I won't, I don't want to spoil it lol)
update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-p970-signed.zip
I got the best battery runtimes ever in CM7 in previous and older bulds from late february but they are not available for download anymore and I don't even remember the build name nor date lol
I suggest you change to Zeus V6.39n and UNDERSTAND that rom, or(zeus) 4.0 ROM or 6.30-6.31-6.32 where not so much tweaking was available.

Mmm by understanding the rom I mean that as far as I've expirienced from Zeus ROM v6.37 i think and onwards the battery tweaks which include CPU frequences and gorvernors, I/O schedulers, WIFI tx power, voltage tweaking (undervolting), overclocking and so on [I'm still learning about all this ]. The v6.39 zeus rom gives you more or less 21-27hs of battery (at least for me depending on the type of usage). Since I've started tweaking, I've already managed a minimum of 23h 50 mins and a maximum of 32hs runtime, so it gets better the further you know. MAYBE IM NOT RIGHT LOL
I think using the boype kang and heuxxx kernel

[Kernel][cm9] Galaxy Exhibit II 4g

Hi guys, Decided to make a new thread as since you guys asked for it
The kernel is based off the work of Arco, forfivo and castanaIT.
Id like to also note please use extra caution when useing extreme edition kernels. (the overvolt).
For those of you that decide you dont want this kernel you can use this to restore back to core2's 11-09 2.6.35 kernel without doing a full rom flash.
When using either kernel 1.7ghz is most likely gonna be the highest you want to run on. @1.8 we either become unstable or get too much heat.
This part im just going to relink the old build for my first attempts. They mostly didnt work.(just for archiveing purposes)
Beta v1, Beta v2, Beta v3, Beta v4
In this section ill list the newer builds and what they added.
Beta 5.2
Adds Govs: brazilianwax, intellidemand, interactivex, lagfree, lazy, lionheart,
lulzactive, ondemandx, savagedzen, scary, smartass1/2, smoothass, wheatley
Adds OC up to 1.8( 1.8 only stable in OV edition but still included just because)
Beta v5.2 + Overvolt v2
Adds the same as above but uses more volts for the higher frequencies to try and make them more stable.
(Was later reported that its stable but gets pretty Hot)
Adds same as above but lowers the volts a little to try and find a happy spot between stable and temps.

Just wanted to chime in to say I just flashed CM9 (stable 11-09), then flashed gapps, and the beta 5 kernel - all within the same CWM session. My Wifi is working just fine. Fast and stable so far Lovin' it! Great job. I especially love all the various governors - that'll give me a lot to play with today
Hey guys, im working on makeing beta 6. When i tested the build wifi didnt work, however i havent changed anything with the wifi so if anyone whos willing to do wipes and stuff possibly try this build? http://d-h.st/ouL
I would do the wipes and stuff my self but this is my only phone/daily used device. So wipeing isnt exatly something id like to do. I did try wipeing cache/fix permissions but that didnt work. Id guess it would work with wipes cause all the wifi code is untouched from beta 5, but before i go telling people to wipe id like to know if that works. Some people said beta 5 broke wifi too which i guess is possible as with this beta 6. However i believe it to be due to not wipeing not the kernel it self.
I clean installed 9/28 plus gapps and this but it broke wifi and usb connection. I chose smartassv2 plus 368 min and 1.4 max and it immediately froze. Am gonna download the latest stable and do this again.

All future builds should work fine without a rom wipe or cache/dalvik as of right now.(beta6)
Sure ill add it to my second/reserved post for now.
Also gonna update the OP with links to 5.1 which is an updated beta5 that shouldnt break wifi.
Beta 6.3 overvolt edition is out now too.
I wiped davlik/cache and flashed beta 6.3. Now wifi works and my previous issue with usb was due to a faulty cable. Only problem now is the phone freezes when I set max to 1.4. 1.3 works fine so am guessing that's my sweet spot.

As stated in the OP 6.3 Adds:
GPU frequency changing
Added V(r) and SIO schedulers
You can use whatever version you want. 5.1 fixes wifi for people who had problems with beta 5. So any of the 5.1 - 6.3 builds are ok to use its just what you want out of the kernel. Each build is a new kernel you can flash w.e. you want and doesnt have to go in any order. Builds older than 5.1 are not recommened to use but they are basicly unchanged from the Kernel you get in core2idiots latest cm9.

6.3 just fixes wifi and adds a couple I/O schedulers. You might as well just stay with it. Even if you don't use the schedulers, there's no harm in staying where you are.
Also, just wanted to say that SmartassV2 will save more battery when the screen is off, as compared to basic Smartass.
As far as your issue at 1.4, that bites! Mine tops out at 1.7 without any voltage adjustment. Most people should be able to get 1.6-1.7 as well. The best chips should get 1.8... That said, 1.3 seems pretty low for you to top out with. In any case, it's usually a good idea to go at least 1 step below where you don't freeze or reboot, just to be safe... In your case, that would be 1.2 - just putting it out there. In my case, even though 1.7 works, I have it set to 1.5 just to make sure I'm not running into problems.
