"SILENT MODE" and "SOUND OFF" - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

today i found that if u switch to "SOUND OFF" from the locked screen, it also switch off the "phone vibrate". it's silent without vibrate.... wtf
but when u switch to "Silent mode" from the "sound and display settings", it keeps the "phone vibrate" on.
what the... it's really SMART on a smartphone
although iphone is much more better. it's still good to switch to "sound off" from locked with just a slide...
is there any setting can keep the vibrate on?
or something can do that?
thanks alot

try a custom rom? cm has the slide switch to vibrate instead of sound off

I can't knock this function, cause I use complete silent all the time, and then sometimes vibrate sometimes. To me this setup is well thought out and I'm glad they did it. Just goes to show you different people have different needs and how we each see something as "dumb".

froyo fixed this, XD

What does "Today timeout" do?

Settings>Today>Items has a checkbox and time selector for "Today timeout". Can someone please explain what this setting does. Thnx.
after the amount of time set, if the phone was idle, it will switch to the today screen.
Gee Thanks, always wondered what it does. Shame it cannot be set to 1 minute. If my Phone screen is up I inadvertently start calls, so I use it as a momentary screen only and alway switch away from it.

Lock screen during a call?

How do you lock the screen during a call?
Is there a setting where the screen will automatically lock while I am on the phone?

search the market for "procsimity sensor" that does it automatically. there are a few bugs that need to be worked out with it becuase it uses the light sensor it doesnt work real well in the dark but from what I have seem other than that its a pretty good app.

I uninstalled it because I hate auto backlight. It stays dim even when browsing.

i personally dont use it but thought he might want it
The lock replacement app, LockBot Pro, as a setting to lock the screen during a call. Not sure about the free version but it's worth a dollar or two.

The screen does automatically lock. The timeout is adjustable, but I don't think there's anything in the Settings menu for it.
I use a program called Quick Settings that puts a shortcut on my home screen to a list of modes - each mode can include custom screen timeout values, ringer volumes, etc. One of them is in-call screen timeout.
OK now, I have tried them all now:
Quick Settings
Call Light
Call Daddy
Lockbot
Proximity Sensor
Screebl
Power Manager
and I still can't figure out how to time out the screen duing a call. It's driving me nuts because I hang up on people all the time. Why can't I get any of the above to work on fresh 1.1 + Gumbo kernel?
For all the people out there on a Sprint Hero, what app are you using and what are your settings in Settings> Sound & display> Disable auto backlight and your screen timeout settings.
TIA.
I'm in the same boot and wish I could find an answer. Sprint really screwed up not putting a proximity sensor on the phone.
I have tried "Proximity Sensor" app but it's buggy and I don't like using auto brightness. Just tried "Quick Settings" but can not find any adjustment for time out during call? only the general screen time out.
Does anyone know where this setting is? Could it be only for 1.6 and up?

In Power Manager, it's under "Stay Awake" and it's called "During Call."

jonnythan,
I tried that and it doesn't work for me for some reason. I have diabled auto backlight and my screen timeout is set to 30 sec. What are your settings? Also with Power Manager how long does it take to time out?

I have different settings for different situations. I have it set to 10 seconds while on battery and 1 minute while on AC power. Works fine for me.

Ever since I switched to a custom kernel, lock during a call has been temperamental. I'm using Gumbo's rom/kernel. For some reason it started working again today. Last night I did switch back to the stock mem kill settings, but I doubt this had anything to with fixing it. Sorry this post is of no help, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
Check out the Screen Suite app...
The Screen Suite app is a collection of screen utilities. Features a lock screen that can be configured to lock during a call and has a panel to lock your screen on demand.
proximity sensor works pretty well for me and i dont have auto back light enabled...
im running damage 2.0.7.2
screen suite doesn't disable the notification bar, my ear pulls it down sometimes. i have things in there that launch.
This thread has the "end all" solution which you can just flash to your phone. It removes the "End Call" button from the screen when you're on a call so that you can't do any facial hang ups.

[Q] Strange on screen alert

Hey guys I'm at an impass here and can't figure this out. I keep getting a notification on the watch that looks like a light bulb with a line through it, it is similar watch disconnect notifier with the cloud with a line through it. I hae looked in the manual and this notification seems to be missing from the manual altogether. The first time it happened I changed the brightness and it went away, this time I can't get it to go away at all, tried restarting, disconnecting and reconnecting, changing watch face and brightness with no luck. Anyone seen this or have any clue what this notifier is for??
Thanks All.......
I believe it is the "Cinema mode" and it's new in 5.0.1 (that's why it isn't in manual)
When enabled, watch will not light up until the crown is pressed - a "Do not disturb mode" of sorts.
You get rid of it by clicking the crown twice

Do not disturb (silent) mode

Hey guys, question:
i'm used to the do not disturb mode on my old iPhone, where this function puts all the notifications on silent, no vibration and my screen stays off, even if I receive a message. Now i'm using this function on my new P9, and it works almost in the same way, but my screen keeps going on when I receive messages.. is there any way to turn this off?
I use it all the time, and my screen doesn't turn on. Check you app configurations.

Go to the settings app and then click on "Notification & status bar" option.
Under this option you should see "Notifications turn on screen" - tap the toggle to turn it off and then your P9 will not turn on the display with any notifications

When I toggle this option, my screen indeed won't turn on on notifications, but that's in every situation, even if the silent mode is off. I'm searching for this function just in the case silent mode is on..
thanks though!

Do not disturb

Hey guys. Loving my note 8. I do have an issue. When watching videos, I lose sound. I discovered that the do not disturb button is enabled. I disable it and hours later it activates itself, without any input. If anyone has had the same issue, let's talk.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
You don't by chance have the Do not disturb option "Turn on as scheduled" activated in your settings do you?
This is happening to me as well, in the afternoons the 'DO NOT DISTURB' 'Enable now' setting is automatically turned on
My 'Enable as schedule' setting is turned off.
I have also noticed my DND randomly turns on, and then it takes me several times of attempting to turn it off before it will finally stay off. This sometimes happens several times a day. I do have a schedule in place, but my settings within that also fall out - such as allowing alarms or my favorites. The alarm option will stay stuck in the off position until I end up having to restart the phone. Once the phone restarts then I can make the changes I want, but not sure why I have to keep doing this. My fear is that this setting will switch while I'm sleeping causing an alarm to not go off or I'll miss an emergency call. I could just not use this feature, but I really like it and wish it would work correctly. I never had this issue on my S7
I am having the same problem after the most recent update. DND turns on all by itself every afternoon.
I tried using the schedule figuring it might force it to do what I WANT it to do, to no avail. It still automatically turns on every afternoon?
This issue even happens in Safe Mode
