I want to try out froyo and see it for myself but I've noticed a lot of bugs posted by users. Is it possible if I upgrade to froyo to flash back to Cyanogen 5.0.6?
Thanks
just do a nandroid back up before you flash and if you don't like it, nandroid restore.
that worked, thanks a lot!

Just a quick question,
I'm thinking of going back to 4.1.11 from the latest Cyanogen (4.1.9999). It's been by far the fastest of the mods but i was just wondering if i need to flash anything before going back since i did flash that HTC image.
Thanks in advance
most likey a wipe and then A FLASH OF 4.1.11., make a nandroid backup and flash 4.1.11 if you have any problems than wipe and reflash
If you have a backup of your NAND while in 4.1.1 then you could just restore.

I just had to pop in and say ROTFL @ your screen name.
Put the freaking lotion in the basket!.....classic....
If you have a nandroid backup I find it always works flawlessly if you wipe before restore
i have to agree with you jndd, i have also noticed that a wipe before a nandroid always does work great otherwise i notice at least 3 fc
I NANDroided back to 4.0.4 from 4.1.999 without wiping and I haven't gotten any force closes.
@ DirectMatrix - Thanks man. Best thing ever!
Hey all,
here is my situation.
im RUnning 2.1 CM'ed and did a complete Nandroid+Ext Backup through Amon_ra Recovery.
now i want to test a 2.2 ROM with new radio. If that goes wrong or is somehow nothing i like, and i restore the nandroid +ext backup i made, will EVERYTHING BE THE SAME AGAIN as before flashing the new ROM ?
Or will some things last, like the new radio or something?
THX for help
Tigger
yea the radio will be the froyo radio still if you flash it, nandroid doesn't backup radios
So which radio should i flash before reverting back to CM'ed 2.1 ?

im using the cdma hero with fresh 2.4 rom on it i wanted to move to the new cm6.0.
and i assume the nightly rom on the cm site is for my phone...right? buttttt
i deleted the files for what i believe is my nandroid back up and apparently never put them on my computer....is there a way to get around this? or am i screwed?? do i have to unroot? then root, flash?
is there a 1 click root?
AND idk how to get out of root..so a link to a guide or maybe a quick way to do it would be nice...thank you for all the help. if you need more info in order to assist ill be glad to tell you.
I'm confused. Did you already flash CM6 or do you want to? If you haven't why don't you just do another nandroid backup. If you already flashed CM 6 and are trying to get back to Fresh, then you are SOL.
Yes, there is a 1-click root, but I forgot where I saw it at.
Thread moved in Hero CDMA Q&A.
Well I'm on fresh right now. I want to move to cm 6. Do I always have to do a nandroid restore when flashing a new Rom? I assumed you did.
But I cannot do a nandroid restore bc it tell me "cannot open directory no files found"

No these are the steps to move to cm6
1. Nandroid backup (when people say nandroid first they mean a backup).
1.5 update your prl, radio, profile if they are out of date (optional)
2. wipe dalvik and factory wipe phone.
3. flash new rom.
4. enjoy.
Here are the CM6 nightlies for the CDMA Hero. If you perform a nandroid backup you are copying your system in the exact state that it is so that if something happens you can revert back to it. When you perform a nandroid restore you are reverting back to the state at which you ran the nandroid backup. Most people recommend doing a nandroid backup before flashing a new rom. You do not do a nandroid restore when flashing a new rom. Just make sure you do a full wipe and wipe dalvik before flashing a new rom.
Ooh okay wow that's gonna help! can i update the prl and all that by just going system updates? and updating there?

Yes but only in Sense Roms CM6 and AOSP roms dont have this functionality (keep your last fresh nandroid for this purpose). Before you move to CM6 update all of that and then flash CM6. Then anytime you need to update any of that stuff in the future (prl, pri, profile) you can do a nadroid and then go back to your Fresh backup and restore then update it and then restore back to cm6.
okay! thank you very much!
and the nightlies? i dont mind using experimental roms as long as i can use like rom manager to just update it i dont wanna flash a new rom every day..
Hey Guys,
I have a rooted LG p990 from FIDO in Canada. I was wondering if i can get back to stock rom in order to get the ics OTA update.
I have NOVA HD REBUILD 1.1.0 (unofficial cyanogenmod 9) on it currently with the 2.6.32.59-HP-CM9-ICS-SUPERSONIC-RC2 Kernel.
I also have a nandroid backup of GB, but dont want to backup because i read online that the kernels are different and something to do
with the file system so you can brick your phone. Can i just restore the nandroid? or go back to stock? and how?
New to flashing, ROMS, Kernels etc. so i need help
You can restore the Nandroid without any problem. Everytime you change the ROM, Kernel will also be changed along with that. So after you restore the nandroid backup, your kernel will also be changed to Stock Kernel along with ROM. There wont be any problems.
Press THANKS if my answer is helpful.
If you are in Canada then I don't see how you will get ICS ota when LG Canada have said they won't release it there.
I doubt any release of ICS will be ota.
You'll possibly need to flash a downloaded rom to ICS anyway. Not sure if just changing regional settings will work but someone else can chime in on that one.

are you sure?

Are you sure, because i read online that ics changes the file system rendering the nandroid backup useless. And finally I don't need to flash a gingerbread kernel before right?, as nandroid restores my stock kernel.
Stock kernel is a gingerbread, one

Yes... The nandroid restore will restore the stock kernel as well. I have tried a few ICS Custom ROMs and restored my Nandroid backup and it restored the stock kernel.
One more question
Will the nandroid backup also restore the stock baseband and RIL?
Help - boot loop
I did the restore and it restored successfully, but when i reboot im in a boot loop and cant get past the white lg logo! HELP
FIXED
Changed to ext3 file system and it works now

is there any other way, maybe flash a zip in recovery
Yes. Download a stock image from xda threads and flash it. You might have flash a new kernel if your coming from ics.

Hi Guys.
Well, first of all, before someone jumps in and yell at me for such a question, I apologize in advance but I already know that is impossible to do it, but I still have some doubts about what could be some possible solutions for my problem.
In resume, I had my Captivate with Eclair 2.1 Stock rom, I wanted to use CM9, so I took KK4 Stock Rom from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18370912&postcount=3
as requested in the CM Wiki - Captivate Full Update Guide, then flashed mtcarey's Kernel with the ClockworkMod Recovery 5, at that step, before flashing CM9, I made a Nandroid Backup just in case something went wrong, and also because I liked GB, I used GB for about 2 days just to give it a try, then I flashed CM9 and everything worked great.
Now, I have made a Nandroid backup of CM9 too, both backups are in my PC too; And here it comes my problem, I know I cant use CWM to restore KK4 Nandroid Backup, cause I already tried and It throws me an error flashing boot img, and end up in a boot loop, (I think that's pretty normal isn't, Things we need to do to learn ), also, don't know if that's because different CWM versions, cause CM9 comes with a newer version of CWM than the one of mtcarey's kernel.
So, Is there anyway I can take the Stock KK4 Rom and make it CWM compatible?, Or everytime I'd like to get back to GB I'll have to do all the Odin thing, flash mtcarey's kernel again, and then use my Nandroid Backup to really get back, and then keep making Nandroid backups to keep updating my Roms.
BTW, I don't care about apps, Call logs o SMS; I only care about contacts and I have them all in my SIM; And again, apps are ok cause Nandroid backups cover them, and I don't usually have that many apps, just the necessary ones.
Note: I'd like to Switch between this Roms cause, I really like the look of GB, I prefer the Camera app too, and in the 2 days I used it, I don't know if It's just me or not, but I found GB handling my battery more efficiently; And Of course I like CM9 cause has more settings to edit, more customizable, etc.
Thanks in advance!
PS: Sorry I Didn't notice I can't post Questions in this section, can some admin move it to Q&A section? Would be very appreciated.
Once u r running CM or similar, in order to go back to GB Stock firmware or Roms based on that, you must use Odin or Heimdall to flash back to GB...because the partitions are different. Stock firmware = BML/rfs partitions and CM, AOSP, AOKP, MIUI and such like = MTD/ yaffs(2) partitions.
Flashing from GB, froyo, or eclair to CM or the like only requires u to do full wipe and then flash the Rom twice in CWM...first flash in ur current cwm. second flash of rom in that rom's cwm recovery that comes up from first flash.
U can only restore nandroid backups when u r back on that Rom u were on when u made the back up. And u need to be using the same cwm recovery/ kernel u were using when u made said backup.

Many Thanks man, well that entirely clear my doubts, I suppose if I just keep using both Roms time to time, of course It wont be every week but so much time more, I just need to keep my Nandroid backups of both Roms, to do all the back-to-stock-flash-again thing and restore the backup and continue using the rom from where I left it... or in any case, switch from CM9 to anther custom ROM... from now I'll stay in CM9 till CM10 reach an stable version.
Again, thanks man, really appreciated.
No prob.
