Anyone else having GPS issues with FroYo? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

No apps, including the stock browser on google.com, seem to be able to get my GPS location.
Oddly enough, putting the phone in the dock, and going to maps or navigation, GPS seems to work fine.
Edit - To be clear, I mean putting the phone in the car dock.

I'm having similar issues. I'm unable to get a location/GPS fix within any browser, Inc stock, and within the news/weather widget. Other apps, inc gmaps obtain a fix as normal. Any suggestions for a fix?

Same happened to me after I first upgraded but working fine now. Try rebooting.

No, tried that numerous times already. Anyone have an other ideas?

My AGPS is not working after upgrade to Froyo...
I have tried rebooting, clearing application data, etc...
Finally I did a factory reset and it worked..
I have after factory reset, I checkd my APN information..
My phone providers information is automatically entered for me.
Before I just had the APN name in it.. and it is not working...

everything's working fine for me.

I have the same problem.
But I have noticed this is only when I'm not moving, if I'm in a car it works just as it should and finds my position very fast. But sitting at home or work it never finds my location.. have I missed anything?! I have selected both wifi and GPS in settings.

I wiped and it fixed itself. However, now my GPS is always on, or the icon for it is always active. Trying to figure out how to solve that.

Had to wipe mine too.. works great now though!

I've just tried wiping, but no still no fix. Restoring back. I guess it's not really important, but it certainly is annoying.

Using beautiful widgets, by chance?
And by wipe, you just mean factory reset from recovery, right?

Yep. Uninstalled it and the problem stopped. It's a shame, that clock widget is, well, beautiful!

Yep, I'm sure they'll update it soon.
I just wiped and still have no GPS though

Scratch that, works after a wipe and reboot!

Oh, turn off GPS in beautiful widgets and manually set the location. Problem solved until they update it.

i did a factory reset and restore and gps still doesn't work!!

Weirdly the GPS works within the browser when I visit mobile.twitter.com, but still no joy with google.com or the news widget.
The plot thickens.

I'm having the same issue, and I don't have Beautiful Widgets. I'm running Paul's ROM which I assume most of you are too.

I am having the same issue. I downloaded the manual update from google and installed froyo that way. I have rebooted, factory reset and nothing seems to fix the GPS issue. The GPS is the primary use of my device. Is there a way to revert back to 2.1 if there isn't a fix?

News & Weather Widget Unable to Connect

Hi,
I recently got AT&T Nexus one and is on unrooted stock firmware.
I am getting 'Sorry, unable to connect. Please try later.' with a 'Retry now' button.
The internet connection is working fine everywhere else. I can add apps from market, browse using browser, Beautiful widget work fine with weather taken from internet.
Any idea what could have been the issue?Since it is a builtin widget, cache cannot be cleared. Tried everything I can think of, like restarting phone, using 3G, WIFI, EDGE/GPRS connection etc. Still it is unable to connect.
Anyone else has similar issue?
Regards
HAX
I have similar issues. Sometimes I also get the 'Sorry, unable to connect. Please try later.' message but the bigger issue is that the widget force close every time when I try to scroll to Top Stories tab. I can see the headlines changing on my home menu and I can read the news from other tabs but Top Stories and Weather tabs cause force close. If the widget gets stuck to "Loading..." mode I just remove it and add it again to my home screen and the headlines are back.
This started when I updated the CM mod from 5.0.4.1-N1 to 5.0.7.1-N1. Now I'm running CM 5.0.8-T4 and the problem persists.
I have tried to clear the application cache, fix permissions, reinstall, clear cache and dalvic cache but no change. Any suggestions?
I just started getting this out of nowhere too.
after i installed beautiful widgets 2
Getting same thing. Outage? I just flashed to bugless beast .2 (froyo 2.2). Just started today!
Same here.... getting the msg "Sorry, unable to connect. Please try later"
Running Stock 2.1 update 1
I'm also experiencing the same problem. It just says 'sorry but cannot connect to network'. I haven't done any changes with my rom cm5.0.7.1 neither have I added any apps. Wondering if this could be Google server problem any ideas?
Same problem here. Just started yesterday. Unrooted running 2.2. This is a bummer I used this widget pretty frequently. Has anyone found a solution yet?
same problem here running cm t5
same here
Same here, must be a server issue- panic over lol

look in settings.
if you look in the setting for the news it should have erased your topic selections
"Sorry network error. Please try again later."
I downgraded to eclair on a t-mobile unrooted nexus one for unrelated issues and still had the error, now I'm back on 2.2 FRF50 unrooted and still experiencing the issue. It must be a server issue at google.
Same problems here also; I am on AT&T. Does this app use Google's servers? Just wondering.

I am having the issue with 2.1 on AT&T Nexus one.
I dont have Beautiful widgets. So I dont think that is causing the issue.
I tried it on Wifi too and still have the issue. So could not be an issue with any blocked ports.
It loads the terms of service of google news under settings. So,it is strange why its not loading news.
Hope Someone has a solution.
Started having similar issues today, and can't even get it to refresh
A friend of mine has a nexus one as well so I asked him to load the widget and his works fine. Makes me think its not a server issue.
Seems a bunch of google services are acting up. Android development site has missing videos.
*sniff* *sniff*
Smells like an incoming update.
I miss this app =(
My credit cards don't accept overseas apps (beautiful widgets) so i'm hoping this comes back soon.
you sure
are you guys sure cuz i just tired the news and weather app and widget. n it worked fine. im on 2.2 on nexus one.
but this did happen to me once. i remembered that i had my gps turned off.
i think it was in setting --> location & security.
i hope that helps.

AT&T Nexus cannot stay connected on Cell Data Connection...

This morning my phone was working perfectly fine, steaming pandora and everything. I put it in my pocket for a while, and in the afternoon when I took it out, I have 5 bars of signal, but no data connection. The E or 3G icon just doesn't show up. I go to *#*#INFO#*#* then phone information, and find out that the data connection is turned off. So I press menu, and then "enable data connection." The 3G icon pops back up, but within 2 seconds, it disappears again. Then I try my SIM card in an old, phone, everything works perfectly, I try another AT&T SIM card in my Nexus, but same connection issue. Anyone else having this problem, or any fixed known?
Did you check your APN settings?
Yeah, APN setting are the same as this morning, and I made then to match the APN settings on the old phone that did work. I'm using the wap.cingular, settings...
You're holding it wrong.
Same exact thing used to happen on my 8525. It's a problem on ATT's end.

Really? I guess I'll wait a little bit, and see how it turns out. I can't understand why the data connection works perfectly with my SIM card in another phone though....
I'm experiencing this right now too. I just use WiFI until it goes away.
Occasionally for work I have to use my Kaiser, and everytime this has happened, its been when I've switched SIM cards back and forth...
I have experienced this issue since installing the latest FroYo build. I find it usually starts when I turn on wifi and there is no wifi around. After that it just seems to kill the data connection. I moved back to Cyanogen since not having a data connection makes me very sad.
I've experiencing this since FRF83. I updated to FRF85B today and we'll see if this still happens. Although I think our cell tower might be screwy because my gf's Motorola Cliq running Android 1.6 or something, will experience the same thing.
Yesterday, while running FRF83 on my N1... her's was working fine and my neighbors N1 running FRF50 was working too. I couldn't get EDGE or 3G on Tmobile. A reboot fixed it so maybe it was a fluke. We'll see as time goes on.
I'm experiencing the same problem here.
data connection connects for a couple of seconds and disconnects, and also my Wifi gives me error. So i'm far a way from the internet
Do you guys use switch pro widget? I had the same thing happen to me today and I narrowed it down to the update for switch pro widget from this morning. Either uninstall it if you do have it or set one of your seven options to data and make sure it is turned on. I was flippin' out trying to figure out wtf happened to my phone! If you don't use switch pro, then good luck!

CoPilot will show the speed you are going. You have to touch the bottom near the distance and a menu of choices will pop up choose Speed and Distance and there you go....
So these apps work with a data plan or something? Isn't that what he was asking?

The question was that doesnt require wifi or data plan...and co-pilot would be my recommendation.

I think he wanted a GPS progrma that doesnt use data or internet, Copilot is a good choice and their recent v8 supports froyo.
Ya know, for $4.99, you're actually getting a lot for your money if you get Copilot.

^ I used navigation on my iphone. Didn't know it was available for android. It was a good app from what I remember.
Copilot needs work, if you can get a good install then good but I had serious issues. I actually needed to reflash. I wouldn't recommend it.
The maps are huge and take too long to download. But the problem was that when I turned the screen off it killed the download. I don't have any auto task killer or aggressive minfree settings so that shouldn't have happened. Once the download failed then the app would force close. I cleared data and installed them re installed. Then it broke my gps, so I cleared data and uninstalled again but gps was still broke, a factory reset fixed it but I used clockwork recovery for that and it wiped my cellular data settings so I had no 3g. It was a big mess over a crappy app.
I'm trying navdroyd now. It already seems way better.

I have absolutely no idea what you're experiencing. Ofcourse the maps are huge, more than 1GB, as the whole point of a GPS app is to have all the maps on your SD card. Took me minutes to d'load the maps from ALK's website.
Been using CoPilot since my Windows Mobile days and its great (i miss TomTom though). Installs like any other app and has a nice big "exit" button when you're done with it.
Excellent app.

It looks like a great app if it works and It appears to have potential on android but I'm not the only one who had problems. Read there comments in the market. I used the app to download the maps over wifi and when the screen went off it stopped the transfer. At that point the app would force close. After starting from scratch I got it installed by putting the phone on charge and setting it to never sleep with usb plugged in. but even with a fresh install otherwise working it caused an error with the gps. I have a similar problem with certain lbs test mode settings where the gps turns off on its own with a navigation app still running. Not every captivate experiences this but at least one other member had the same problem but his happened all the time and want related to any app or setting. Some apps don't agree with my gps some do. My tracks tracks me perfectly, but co pilot works for a minute and the gps turns off, and the error shows up in maps as well but only after installing co pilot. It doesn't affect my tracks. Doing a factory reset fixed it. I tried it again same results. Then I read the comments and others are saying it crashed there phones. It seems pc download is the way to go, some are reporting that fixed there problems. Also some are reporting problems with 3rd party keyboards causeing install problems. So maybe set to stock android if you have it (i do) instead of swype.
Btw my gps performance is quite accurate and had been since stock jf6. I get faster locks with jf7 and now with leaked ji6 froyo it is as good as any other device I have used. My gps problem seems to be atypical. I never had the complaints of poor accuracy or inability to get a lock but there is some issue that I do have that only few others are experiencing. It isn't intermittent, but only shows after running certain apps, and/or settings.
I hope the op doesn't have problems with copilot but I tried it too many times and had big problems. I think I can get it to work but decided if it doesn't then I don't want to go through the trouble to fix it yet again. Navdroyd on the other hand works flawlessly for me but looks a bit dated and the address search is not that good.

nothing google works on mobile

I've been having a issue with my gapps not working on custom ROMs. They would only work over WiFi. So today I decided to restore stock and see what happens, and I still have the same result. I can't even go to Google.com. the only thing that works is incoming email. Anybody have any ideas? Maybe time to FXZ and start completely fresh?
Since the apps work over wifi, I suspect something is wrong with the APN settings.

Google Maps No Voice Assistance

I got my P40 Pro Plus yesterday, pretty flawless install of GMS on the factory .137 firmware. Google Maps is now installed and it kept shutting down, but I was able to get a longer time in between oncr to download a map of a selected area. Afterward and about three restarts of the phone later it worked. All except for voice assistance. The voices is there, as I did a test, but there are no prompts. Has anyone been able to fix this and get the prompts?

Did you try force close your map, clear cache and data, reboot ?

Yep, a couple of times. The behavior changes, though and it's inconsistent. Right now, the app will open and function so long as I never turn wifi on. The moment wifi goes on, the app shuts off.
If you have any tips on reinstall, I'd be happy to try them out.

Yes, reinstalled numerous times, also from APKPure. I reinstalled again after clearing the data and cache and it works fine now,but still no voice assistance, which others widely report as well, including in this very forum. The recovery mode thing you posted sounds sketchy. This is a brand new phone and Google Maps is widely reported throughout the internet as having broken voice assistance.

I think I was very lucky, I got mine in early Sept which is prior to existing GMS method stopped working and near all g. apps working fine.
Fingercross my GMS will not break during firmware OTA update.
Outta nowhere it's working now, no issues. I don't get why sometimes I can't even reopen the app while on wifi to having it work perfectly.
Now to try and figure out how to fix Google Assistant.
