internet through PC

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to access the internet connection on my PC through the kaiser?
J
If you mean access your pc's web connection with your kaiser then simply use activesync via BT or USB.
If you mean access the kaiser's connection with your pc, then use Internet Connection Sharing on the device, either with USB or BT PAN.

Hi unwired,
I meant the first case, accessing PC's web connection.
So there is a way to do it through USB? how do I do this? can't find any info on this...
enable ICS on your lan/wireless network on your computer, plug the kaiser in via USB, and it should automatically have internet.
PC ActiveSync - in connection setings allow internet access and select profile internet.
Thanks! I will give it a try

Sharing PC connection over WiFi

Hello, I googled around, but i can't seem to find an app for my needs.
I have a PC with Internet connection and a laptop. So i want to use the phone's wifi as a card for the pc, which to share my connection over the wifi and connect the laptop. Is there an app for that?
It should look like this:
Internet -> PC -(usb)>phone - (wifi)> laptop
there is no app for that and it would not work will as the phone does not have the prcessing power to maintain two different syncs at the the same time.
Not to mention the fact the your battery will be drained in no time flat because of the heavy wifi use as well as drawing on the processor to handle such a load.
just buy a router
Yea i thought of that but just checking, anyway I'm in need of a router
10x all

what about WMWifi http://global.wmwifirouter.com/features/
# Support for sharing your cellular data connection over Bluetooth and USB
# Support for sharing your Wi-Fi connection to USB, and vice versa
# Support for sharing your WiMAX connection to USB and Bluetooth
Shouldn't that just work via Internet Sharing? If you connect the phone's Wifi and turn off Data... would that work? Then connect the PC to the phone by USB or Bluetooth.

[Q] Tether my own wifi?

Is it possible to connect to my own wifi, and then use my usb cable to tether that wifi to my computer?
My current setup is, i have a computer that is too far to be wired to the router, and i dont have a wireless dongle to use.. for now.
So, can i connect my captivate to the router (using wifi) and then tether from my phone to my pc, would it use my wifi data? or my 3g data?
http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
This root app will let you tether via usb but I believe you can only use your 3G data connection and not your wifi.
if u need a temp solution easy tether lite will do it for ya for a trial period, $10 for full license. and this does turn your phone into a usb wifi adapter but u need software on your PC to run this

Ah! thanks cremefraiche (is that from southpark btw?)
Off to install some apps

[Q] PC internet connection on SGS

Hi
I have SGS GT-I9000. I want to connect to internet using PC/laptop. How can this be done.
I tried teethring which connected to net via 3G on my handset.
A quick help is much appreciated..
Do you want to connect your pc to the internet by using 3g,
or do you want to share your computers internet to your sgs?
Either: under the settings, go to wireless and network, and in here go to Mobile AP, and follow the instructions. This sets up an adhoc wifi network that up to 5(?) devices can connect to to access the interweb through your SGS's 3G
If you want to access the internet using your laptop as a wireless router, then you need a free wireless connection (so if you have LAN cable to internet, and then a spare wireless card; or 2 wireless cards), and set up an adhoc network on your laptop that has internet connection sharing enabled, and then connect to that with your phone. This will allow the SGS to access the internet through your laptop's internet connection.
Thats from PC
thanks for the inputs.. what I wanted to know is :
1. My Laptop is connected to Internet with a LAN Cable.
I want to connect SGS to Laptop and Access Internet via Laptop.
Please refer to this question:
http://www.samsunggalaxysforum.com/tutorials/using-pc-to-connect-to-internet/
In the response they have shown an option for PC internet. Is it possible?
You have to setup your laptop wifi in accesspoint mode and connect to it from the phone.
Some links for you:

Thanks agnivo007 but it doesnt really help.
What i want to do is connect my SGS to PC via cable and then use PC's Internet (LAN) from SGS.
This is the second half of Chillaholic's question above:
<<or do you want to share your computers internet to your sgs?>>

[Q] Reverse Tethering

Hi all
is there a way to do reverse tethering on Milestone for surf the web using a notebook internet connection???
I don't think is because notebooks use a wireless receiver, not broadcaster (although it is still gives and takes - up and down).
Depends on how your computer is connected to the internet and its OS. Usually its no problem to share its internet connection through wifi. On Windows its called ICS (internet connection sharing, google it); on linux its possible as well, how you do it depends on your distro.
For Ubuntu: http://bigbrovar.wordpress.com/2009/01/17/share-you-internet-wirelessly-on-ubuntu/
For Windows (this is for XP, but should work the same on vista/7): http://www.geekyblogger.com/2008/05/sharing-internet-connection-using-wifi.html
(Your computer should not be connected to the internet via wifi when sharing internet over wifi!)
Sharing your Computer's internet connection through USB to your Milestone is not possible AFAIK.
Forgot about ad-hoc networks, android don't support it from what I remember.
They can beam out a adhoc network, but it wont show if you try searching for one.
my purpose is to have internet on milestone connected via usb cable to netbook which is connected to the net via wifi...

milestone has built in wifi... but i think there was a usb tethering app but i dont remember. i THINK cm6 or cm7 or something. i dont remember tho
Not possible, unless you have dual NIC (one for the receiving, one for transmitting) or someone comes up with a way via USB, but right now (after some Google-ing) no one has.

think about it - every internet connection has to recieve AND send some data, so ofc every notebook can receive and broadcast wifi signal
OP: try connectify

It makes no sense.. if you are able to connect via wifi with you laptop you can connect via wifi with milestone too.. if you need proxy auth you can use some advanced browser such as miren o dolphin...
It's sending data back and forth yes but it's also got to pass out IPs and tables (i.e routing traffic) (which I'm sure there is a program that can do that).
I should have explained myself a little better.
Just a side note, wireless extenders?
I have a DD-WRT extender is my room which extends my wireless network to my room.
Main Router --- Wireless --- DD-WRT Extender --- Wireless --- HTPC / Netbook / Milestone
Any reason why it can't be;
Main Router --- Wireless --- Laptop Running Some Software --- Wireless --- Milestone
Only issue I can think of (ofc) the speed will be halfed.
All the laptop would have to so is sort and forward the packets?

I'm not an expert on WiFi, but I think regular wifi cards can't do that, as you can be connnected just to one other wifi point. If I could use two (or more) access points at the same time I think it would be already in use to achieve better speed/ coverage
Me nether.
It's just the thought of me being able to turn a router into a wireless extender through some third party software which makes me wonder if it is possible but like you said it goes against everything I've ever read about wireless networks and equipment.
On a different topic, I have managed to get USB Tethering to work on the custom ROM that I am using now.

I have no problem connecting to an ad-hoc network with my Milestone running the latest FroyoMOD.
Some Routers support repeating (extending signal coverage). But AFAIK, as said above, you cant use your Laptop as a repeater since it can only handle 1 connection at a time. That means either connecting to hotspot or being the hotspot.

it has sense if i CAN'T connect to my university wifi network which use a wpa-enterprise connection... it works with all htc android phones and also on motorola defy but it doesnt' with milestones...
Maybe the phone (rom) doesn't support wpa enterprise encryption.
What is the most logical approach
if you're running windows 7, check out connectify, it does exactly what your looking for
