How much internal mem is normal with apps2sd installed - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't think mine worked correctly I have 64mb with minimal apps installed and the phone almosted butt naked.

It all depends on the ROM and what version of apps2sd that ROM uses or you put on.
You should get an app called quick system info. That app will give you a little bit more detail of whats going on.

I'm not running the new update yet because I am so happy with what I have. I'm have purehero1.1 on it an I do have quick system info, that is y I'm asking, it shows only 64mb avaiable, but says I'm using app2sd and that partitiion has plenty of space. I'm using app2sdbeta 7. Just seems I should have a lot more open space internally. Ill check and see how much the rom itself is and go from there
I guess. Does the de odexed 2.1 run that much faster since its de oxed? I like my custom rom: (

how do you get apps2sd on 1.6 roms

i've been looking all over for it but i can't find it any where
Some details on what you want to achieve would be nice...
If it's a custom ROM like Cyanogen 4.xx then all you need to do is add an ext partition.
can I ask why you would choose to not run CM5 (2.1)? It makes no sense to be running 1.X....

the reason why i dont want cm5 2.1 anymore is because my battery doesnt last as long as it would with a 1.6 rom

My friend has a problem

Ok, my friend has the hero for sprint and it keeps saying his phone storage space is getting low. Its making his phone run very slow and I said i'd help him fix it. Can you guys pleeeaaassseee help me?

Is your friend running stock ROM?
Go to Settings > SD card and Storage and see what it says for free internal memory. I remember getting that message when mine was under 15 MB. I had too many apps on internal memory. I switched to a ROM that had apps2sd and now I have 100+ MB Free.

Sweet! His phone isn't rooted yet but I'm good with knowing how to root phones. What ROM has that apps2sd app thou? I have a samsung fascinate soo I don't know much about the hero lol. And its a stock ROM rom btw
1sT GeAr, U MaD??
Almost all ROMs now have apps2sd integrated.
If your friend wants to stay "stock" with the Sense UI, anything by nfinitefx45 is quality. He just released a ROM based on the newest Sprint release this morning! Check it out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849024
If you want something completely new, froyo AOSP, check out CyanogenMod 6.1 RC1.. it's perfectly stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755795
With both you'll get a lot more internal memory than stock ROM. If you still want A2SD, it's built in nfinitefx45's, and if you want it for CM6 then just run the easy froyo a2sdext in my signature. Just partition the SD card to ext2 and then upgrade from ext2 to ext3 before installing nfinitefx and it will work automatically. If using with CM6, partition anytime before running the script.

Exactly right, or for no sense but more speed, try CM 6.1.0
Or try AOSP!

That works too
low memory
Low memory can slow down the phone... lag the hell out of it if there is no room for "working" memory. You won't be able to view photos or listen to musice if you have too much on your phone. Been there done that flashed on cm6 no problems since.

[Q] Dose A2SD Work With CM7 RC4

so i want to use a2sd to free up more space and i used Darktremor 2.7.5.3 Beta 04 and i partition my sd card and every thing but i just cant use it for some reason . when i go into titanium backup i can see that on a2sd i have at least 660 MB free.
i dont get it
I guess you're using it without understanding that you do, since you didn't read the documentation/search the forum and didn't understand, how to check if it's used. That's what mostly happens.
Just use S2E from the Market rather than DT.
Thanks guys

Need a side remark on this one: while it does the job and indeed is simple, reinstalling ROM will hurt the setup. There already was a thread about it on the forum.

Boot up to 5 ROMs Instantly

This looks amazing

Don't forget to hit the Thanks button!
wow that looks too good to be true...
I would like to hear some personal experiences on here. Anyone?

It is a really cool App, installing the roms takes some time, but switching between them is quick and easy.

OMFGodddddd!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!! This is like legalizing drugs for flasher addicts!!
EDIT: bought it, and playing with it right now
edit: I like it alot, set the newer cm7 as my phone rom, and installed vicious miui in slot 1 just to play around with, its pretty fun, this makes me a flash a holic x5 or is that 4
Is this a must?
really cool app but this thread belongs in the themes & apps section
Playing around with this now, thx for the post. Never would have thought this would have been remotely possible ..therefore I never looked for anything like it via market lol.
cool app, but, how does it work?
is it automating the flashing process?
is it changing the boot.ini to make my phone look for the other os install on the sd card?
am I flashing like mad going in between roms?
I find these questions need to be answered first before I install this.
the way I understand it is
1.main rom i flashed on my phone internal memory+(kernel)
(on SD)
{
rom2+(kernel)
rom3+(kernel)
rom4+(kernel)
rom5+(kernel)
}
and the app works by flashing an update.zip that changes where the phone looks to boot.
Am I correct in my understanding?

Useful answers
1. Will this also work if you have a froyo rom and gb rom that you are switching between?
Yes u can install whatever roms u want to whatever slots gb roms froyo roms whatever makes u happy they're all completely separate it's like having 5 different phones basically
**** remember your radios folks we have mr1 and mr2 some roms need separate radios so if you use the app and swap, you wont have any data untill you flash a new one through hboot.
2. Are you saying that when you flash between roms, the app will auto wipe data, cache and dalvik?
The app creates imgs into the slots when u install a fresh rom to a slot u should check all the check boxes to wipe data cache and system but it doesn't wipe the data cache and system on ur phone just the slots data cache and system the app doesn't touch any of ur data on ur phone just makes it's own in the sdcard
3. Let's say I have Chevy's Froyo rom and his SS GB rom on there. If I flash from GB to froyo, then back to GB. Will I have to restore apps?
No each slot is saved all of it's data stays there nothing is ever wiped again just like having five phones basically all of ur slots are completely separate all of ur data is separate and saved nothing is lost
it aint workin right for me. I tried doing an install from the sdcard and it is telling me i dont have enough space. but i have 1.37 gb free!
This app is kick a**! I know one of the devs that made this app back from my D1 days (he was co-creator of one of the best D1 ROM's IMO) and he is an amazing dev! I was lucky enough to test this app and it is def worth the $$ if you're a person that can't decide on 1 ROM or you just like to try all the latest and greatest ROM's that drop.

Thank you!

So my question is...does it run the ROM from the SD card?
If so...how is the speed/lag once the ROM is booted up?
I like the idea of having different ROMs to test, but I'm wondering how much time you'd be saving if it takes that long to install a ROM initially.
A lot of these Devs have nightlys or almost nightlys....
Very interesting...
looks pretty retarded to me... right up there with rom manager. i cant wait to see how it effs things up for some beginner noobie
not all roms work, you may get FCs during setup... yeah looks pretty amazing.
think ill stick to manually wiping and restoring my nandroids after i get them set up.

That's what has kept me from purchasing it. It's been in the market for a few days now but if the rom runs off the sdcard it could cause issues.

That leads to my question. Isn't this basically like restoring a nand backup? Maybe this app makes it easier? IDK. I guess it's worth checking out.

On initial setup do you need to reinstall your current rom?
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
Yes, it runs from the sdcard. Lag is minimal if you let the kernel settle when you boot one up. On my thunderbolt I don't really notice any lag and i don't even overclock.

Feel free to leave any comments concerning your rom, like why your using it, or why you like it so much, your performance settings, your configuration, etc, etc.
This should be interesting
At the moment, I"m currently using Dreamteam Froyo (see my signature)
Its super fast, lightweight, practically stock (cuz its AOSP), which is what i need.
Im on froyo because gingerbread is just to laggy for me.
I'm using FroyoByLaszlo but it's been super modded to work even better =P
It's like the Dwang of FroYo..kind of.
I set my MTD to 110 15, pushed all apps that I use regularly onto the system memory, optimized the minfree settings, I use AutoStarts for fast and controlled reboots, ummm... I have the ICS Launcher, clocked at 245 595 ondemand, and have a 16gb class10 microsd for all other apps like games..
I think that pretty much covers my setup =P
Currently on ADS_Magpie (I enjoy how everything just seems to work), but I do like DREAMteam Froyo (was waiting on the next version to test it out again).
dreamteam froyo.
I'm using Dreamteam Froyo. Everything is perfect except it doesn't push the Gapps to ext partitions. The best thing is custom mtd regained lot of internal space.
MTD & Minfree

I just discovered FbL like a month ago and It's running very well so far. But you know, always trying to learn something new and improve even more our old phone, I found interesting your mods: MTD (looking for info) and for minfree did you used and app from market or other way? it's permanent or have to be done on every reboot? Do you mind share some info about?
I'm using froyobylaszlo
I think I'm gonna have to reflash today though
What I have right now is a nandroid backup restore installed, and the ext restore went a bit weird
It keeps saying I have no space

i am using COS-DS 07-18-2011 Gingerbread 2.3.4.
the fastest Gingerbread i have tested to date. I perfomed a few personal tweaks as well
I use Official's 'Kanged' CM7 by dw9906.
I've replaced camera.apk of latest build with the one of 09302011 build. This because in latest build I couldn't take videos in high resolution and changing options caused FC's, replacing camera.apk fixed the trouble!
Also removed rommanager.apk, I don't use it, and it charges RAM on start-up.
Latest ezgb kernel (1.5.2).
Latest gapps (20110828), with MarketUpdater.apk removed to stop market updates (3.x versions are too laggy in G1).
Latest SuperUser from goo-inside.me/superuser (3.0.7).
SwapScript2.1.1 from forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/208-swap-enabledisable/page__p__1303#entry1303 with bootswapv2 and 60 of swapiness.
SD Class 4, 8GB, 512 MB ext4, and 96 MB swap.
Using Official 'Kanged' CM7 cause I really like the any file type downloads and internet browser, specially of CyanogenMod's officials builds. Also like GingerBread by high compatibility with market apps, FroYo doesn't give me so much compatibility, particulary with some C# programming apps.
Also using S2E. Apps, private apps, and data is on SD ext partition.
File Manager and Terminal apps deleted, using ones from Market (OI File Manager and Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich).
Radio 2.22.28.25 and SPL 1.33.0013d.
My device is a DREA10000, DREAM PVT 32B aka T-Mobile's HTC Dream 32B.

And I forgot it, only ROMs that I don't and never will use is sense ones, they haven't bluetooth and it's essential for me.
Always putting an eye on infinimod's Éclair sense and GBSense cause they're offering bluetooth working from a long ago... but haven't seem this to hapen yet
