How do you use clockworkmod rom manager? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Mytouch 3G running test 7 on my phone, and i just installed the clockworkmod rom manger. After, installed it i wanted to flash a new rom, so flashed the clockwork mod recovery, and when i tried to install the new rom from the sd card, it keeps on getting stuck on the mytouch screen, and nothing happens. How do i get into the recovery screen? thanks

First: This belongs in Q & A !!!!111
Which ROM did you flash? Maybe you had to wipe before

right now, i'm running cyanogen test-7, but when i go into the clockworkmod rom manger app and pick the flash rom from sd card, it just says it has to go to the recovery, and then my phone will reset and it would just get stuck on the mytouch screen. So, i just pull out the battery and reset the phone again, and i realized if i press the end button, it will go the rom that is already on the phone. I'm i suppose to push some buttons or something to get to the recovery screen?

No it should flash the rom you select and reboot the phone to boot the new rom without keypress needed.
maybe the wrong device was selected when downloading the recovery image? Try reinstalling clockworkmod recovery from rom manager.

Mod edit: not dev related, moved to q&a

I have the same problem.
I downloaded and installed Rom Manager from the Market and it has completely screwed up my recovery (I can't get into it at all). I tried flashing Amon's again (through Rom Manager) and it still doesn't work.
HTC G1. CM5.07 test 7 (trying to go to stable!).

Your recovery has been corrupted, you will need to flash it through fastboot.

Connect to your PC via USB, and from the command line issue "fastboot erase recovery" and then "fastboot flash recovery filename.img"
More on common fastboot commands here can be found on these forums, i'm not allowed to post links.

i connected my phone to my computer but nothing on my computer pops up. only the new hardware wizzard pops up. what do i do from here? im i suppose to get a adb popup? how do i set up the fast boot? i'm so confused..thanks

some one, please help..i want to be able to flash new roms in the future...thanks in advance

Can I sugges that you try this sticky thread at the top of this forum board.
It contains all you need to know on who to set up fastboot and how to use it - there are a couple of tutorials on it if you read through the thread.

CM 5.0.7 for Dream/Sapphire introduced a bug in flash_image. It causes recovery flashes to fail. It has since been fixed in the latest test of 5.0.8 I believe.

Man i have the same darn bug cant get back into recovery for nothing, and i dont have a pc to fastboot i have a non intel based mac so no adb or fastbooting, i have been doing fine for forever without adb or fastboot but is there any way around this one, i need help bad, im on HTTClay Superbadv1.3 and it has all sorts of bugs but i cant nandroid or bart or flash any rom without recovery, can someone please help!!!
Also is there another way to erase the recovery partition?

sorry if there are typo's im dutch
did you put the phone into fastboot mode, before you tried the fastboot command? and second, why are you flashing the recovery image? that won't fix you phone
i think you should try a factory reset, either by flashing your rom again or by selecting some option. what rom do you have installed? stock? if not, which and which recovery image do you have installed? there is an option in amon_ra's image do factory reset. i never used the stock recovery, but there should be an option to wipe there as well. anybody?
ps: please stop using fastboot and adb commands, if you are don't know what you are doing, before you brick your phone.
i used the following guide to root

got it fixed now
thanks alot FloOGB some of your pointers realy helped me out,
i fixed it by installing the drivers provided by th3fallen
"forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613217"
after that i followed the following steps got from from a post of Jeremy Sikora
"forum.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-one-roms-hacks/7366-how-install-custom-roms-your-nexus-one.html"
im sure the same topic is on XDA somewhere, this was just the first website i got directed to by google
1.) With your device powered off hold down on the volume down rocker while pressing the power button. From there select "recovery".
2.) Once in recovery select backup/restore and choose Nand backup.
When that is completed you now have a backup image saved on your SD card in case you ever need to go back to the normal ROM.
3.) Now from the recovery menu select Wipe and then Wipe data/factory reset.
4.) Once the wipe is completed select Flash zip from sdcard to select the ROM you wish to install.
5.) Once the flashing process is completed simply reboot and enjoy your freshly flashed Nexus One!
i installed the rom: Cyanogenmod For Nexus One V5.0.6
"forum.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?/topic/150-cyanogenmod-for-nexus-one-v506-04152010/?"
sorry that you arent able to click the links im providing, im new to the forum and im not allowed to make direct links yet.
so thanks again FloOGB.

you're welcom, no problem
even if i didn't say anything that useful i think i would have never thought about drivers since i'm using only linux and it's sort of plug and flash here.

[Q] G1! I can normal boot, fast boot, but not reboot into recovery.

I have searched other posts and not found my same problem, so excuse me if I repeat another thread.
I have a rooted g1 running superfly v1.2 D/S. I tried to use Rom Manager to flash another ROM, but upon reboot it never flashed, it just stayed at the T-mobile/G1 boot screen.
I then took out the battery, and tried to do a manual reboot to recovery (power+home) and I never got into recovery mode, it just stayed at the G1 screen again.
I then tried fastboot (power+camera) but that took me no where. My only options were to shutdown, go back to hboot, reset data, and one other thing I can't remember.
When I take out the battery and then power back on again, it boots up the superfly ROM and starts up normally.
My Question is how can I get into recovery mode to flash a different ROM, and why doesn't it work through ROM Manager?
Looks like your recovery got erased...you have two options....
1. Setup fastboot on you PC, flash a new recovery from fastboot. this is the best and safe method...
2. flash a recovery from terminal...you might have to do this step multiple times...flash recovery...power off the phone, power on holding home button and see if you have working recovery...if not restart the phone and flash again...
I would go with 1st option.

Most likely your recovery is corrupted. Flashing a recovery from within CM5/CM6 is not working well, so you need to flash a new recovery using fastboot.
When in fastboot mode, you can "control" your phone from your pc using the fastboot command. For this you need to connect your phone to your pc by USB.
Search here for the ADB/Fastboot threat, where you will find further information.

Bricked phone?

OK, to keep things short: Tried flashing a new firmware rom, wouldn't work, kept rebooting (tried multiple times and yes I did wipe and everything). Tried to flash a new recovery rom so I could try flashing the firmware again. It said everything went correctly, except it decided to delete my recovery and not flash the new one. So what I'm left with is no firmware, no recovery, and a bootloader/fastboot that wont allow my usb to be recognized. Anything I can do?

So when turn your phone on, what does the screen show? Is the screen white or does it show the triangle box and phone? If you can get into fastboot you should be able to flash from your SD card if you can get ahold of a properly signed update.zip. Need some more information to help.
If I boot the phone regularly it will keep booting the HTC screen, but yes, I can boot into fastboot but my computer won't recognize the USB.
You probably flashed an overclocked recovery and rom and your phone can't do it. Try clockwork 2501 and then your rom and gapps and a capped 691 kernel. Are you trying to get gingerbread? If you try these steps and it still won't work got to the live help link in the GB thread.

I tried to flash the clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.5 and the new gingerbread aospCMod. The problem is that I cant get my phone to show up on the computer through the USB so I can't really flash anything or put anything on the sd card.

bootup problem

attempted root and used superboot grj22 from modoco pphone is unlocked and after double clicking on indows bat file as directed phone is locked on boot x
this phone has just come back from htc with a new power switch installed and 2.3.4.
anyway could use some help daughter is upset I locked her phone.
can get to boot menu however can not get into recovery. I get a triangle with exclamation in it
thanks
Please read the Wiki, Rooting guide for unlocked bootloader.
Flash recovery through fastboot.
Flash whatever ROM you want from recovery.
You've flashed a wrong kernel (which is contained in "superboot"), that's why you can't boot.
another question
read wiki and followed instructions which said after loading passimg that this was an older version. searched more and found another thread that gave a new file that was supposed to load the older version of the rom and get around the error "older version"
still not working any other ideas will be appreciated
Just to make sure I understand right you tried the frg83 passimg file and you got "main version is older" error? If so then can I just ask you is your bootloader unlocked (at the X screen before the cyanogen mod logo do you see an unlocked padlock)?
hi
yes padlock on screen is unlocked tryed to flash again and get the same error version is older
thanks for trying to help kid leaves for school tonight and is freaking
more
also askes if I want to reboot device
It'll be long fixed by then don't worry
Boot into bootloader then from there select the recovery option. Once there tell me what you see if you see and android with a /!\ next to it then press power and vol+ power slightly before. Then you will get a menu select power down. If you go straight to the menu tell me what color the writing is.
hi
get the triangle white with a orange exclamation in it
Ok then you'll need to flash a recovery via fastboot. So since you bootloader is unlocked I assume you already have the SDK set up and the drivers installed if not then I can help you with that too, but now just download this file and place it in the same directory as fastboot on the computer and download this file and put it on the root of your sd card (not in any folders).
Then boot the phone into fastboot (hold down the trackball while powering up) then connect the phone to the computer via usb and open a command prompt in the directory where you have fastboot. Then input these commands:
fastboot devices (this should return the s/n number from your phone)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (where recovery.img is the name of the first file you downloaded earlier)
fastboot boot recovery.img (same thing here)
The phone should then boot into recovery from there use the trackball to navigate go to flash zip from sd card then chose zip and chose the second file you downloaded earlier (the one you put on the sd card), after that wait for it to flash then press vol- to go back to the recovery main menu then select reboot system now and your all good you have stock with root access, if you want to flash a custom ROM then just ask I can explain that too.
As I've said, follow the guide FOR UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER.
You didn't.
The guide for unlocked bootloader is in Unroot/Restore section, called "using fastboot".
Actually, the only thing you need to do is to install recovery. Go to "recovery" guide - again, FOR UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER - and install Amon_Ra's recovery.
Once you have it, you can flash whatever you want, including stock ROM.
ok
everything is good except that i tryed to flash downloaded zip from sd and got error that zip is signed wrong also zip verifacation failed
again thanks excited I got this far.
so after this gets fixed than will phone reboot and go to 2.3.4 that was on there before?
will I be good to go for a new rom and last but least like the miuis and recommendations from an expert?
funny I bought the sensation and forgot how to do all this probably the pressure of the child (oh my god you wrecked my phone) Forgetting of course it was dads to begin with DARN KIDS
me dumb as a box of rocks toggled zip verifacation and ra unzipped.
afraid to push any buttons.
should I reboot?
and then Its ok to load a rom?
thanks
radio should be ok as it was just loaded from htc?
Ya you should be good don't worry you can't brick it by flashing something to the system partition only to the recovery and hboot partitions. Just select reboot system now and all should work fine.
Sorry for the late response I was away from my computer
still stuck on nexus x screen ??
earlier someone posted that when I used superbot I got the wrong kernel?
not sure but still stuck
just tryed to boot into recovery and it wouldnt go
Oh right sorry forgot an important step you kind of need a ROM my bad ok so forget about su you're going to need to flash a ROM I suggest cyanogen mod as a first ROM but it's up to you if you want miui or something then go for it. Here's a link to cm7 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31690913/android%20files/update-cm-7.0.3-N1-signed.zip
So to flash this simply boot into recovery then go to wipe, wipe all at least 2X I do 5X to make sure then just go to flash zip from sd card and flash the ROM.
In that case do like we did last time and reflash it through fastboot. Now sorry but I gotta go maybe someone else can come and help you if not I'll be back later tonight.
thanks
thank you so much for helping me with this got everything working including the new miui rom.
when you panic just a little you forget all the things you knew how to do before.
thanks again.

[Q] Soft/Hard Bricked, Lost Root, Lost Recovery, USB Not Recognized

Hi all, this is a last ditched effort at maybe saving my phone. I did an update on my SU and for some unknown reason it rebooted my phone. It then loaded up my rom until the kernel settings loaded then rebooted once again. I then tried to go into recovery to flash a backup and it booted me straight into my unlocked fastboot. I then tried to reboot once again in hopes I could fast navigate into twrp through rom manager, once in I was prompted that I no longer had root. I then decided to start over from scratch and load a recovery in fastboot. Once I had everything good to go I plugged everything in and instead of recognizing my phone as a drive, HTC manager popped up instead. I then updated my drivers to see if maybe that would fix the problem with no luck. I am at a loss at this point. I would greatly appreciate any help you guys can offer.

This is completely normal, you should have just rebooted the phone and been done I then tried to go into recovery to flash a backup and it booted me straight into my unlocked fastboot. Again totally normal, thats the bootloader use the vol to move down and choose recovery and hit power this will boot you to TWRP I then tried to reboot once again in hopes I could fast navigate into twrp through rom manager, once in I was prompted that I no longer had root. I then decided to start over from scratch and load a recovery in fastboot. Why ? I was doing a SU update. It restarted into a loop that boots about 1 min after the splash screen then resets. I've tried to redownload root through SU app as I can no longer connect through usb but it reboots to soon. I used Rom Manager to try and get into recovery as a second alternative.

Reboot to bootloader / fastboot USB
and from command line on pc
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
I cant understand why people using those ROm manager apps to install stuff. And you said it rebooted after you update your SU. Then i tink you pressed reboot into recovery instead of NORMAL. Am i wrong?

I no longer have a recovery to be able to flash anything. When I try to load into recovery it just boots right back into fastboot. I was just using rom manager to boot into recovery after I couldn't get into recovery through fastboot, not to flash anything. I was updating Super Su through the actual app itself. it seemed to be downloading something when it rebooted itself and I lost root, recovery and the ability to connect to my computer.

Ok. I think you need to reflash recovery again.
Boot into bootloader and fastboot usb
then download TWRP recovery from here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7 and pick 2.6.3.3-m7.img
put it into your fastboot folder and flash it "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img and hit enter
now try to reboot into recovery. When there Wipe Dalvik and Cache and reboot. If recovery ask you to root your device then accept it and reboot.
Remember to connect phone to right USB port not 3.0. Use 2.0 port and try annother cable also.

you cant boot up. if it doesnt recognize it in bootloader mode then i dont know.
Try restart PC. Maybe you have several adb at same time. Adn uninstall htc sync if not but keep drivers

I hadthe same problem after flashing a kernel. I repeatedly tried the bootloader (audiodown key + power button) until it started. Recovery was not available, in the red triangle screen press audio up key,got the system recovery screen, wipe cache, reboot the system and then try installing Twrp recovery. It worked.

I think @jpaulpra was telling him to reflash stock recovery
then boot to it and do clear cache.. then reflash twrp
When I got into bootloader, I lost the Twrp recovery. So when I selected recovery I got the screen with a "triangle and exclamation mark". If you leave it will reboot the system after couple of minutes. But if the audio up key is pressed, it will show a system recovery screen, where cache can be wiped

Basically all I'm trying to do now it's find a way to get my computer to recognize my phone as a drive. When I go into viper settings and go to advance menu (with the short time I have before boot loop) there is an option to mount drive. When I select the option to do so it hands on splash screen and I have to hold power button to recycle back on. Once back in it's no longer selected. I've never seen a boot loop go pay the flash screen. Is this normal?
Pretty SOL with my son's Nabi2
I'm having a issue with my sons Nabi2 pretty similar. I messed up bigtime guys I rooted it and started messing aroung with the system files. Then didn't get a boot afterwards, wiped everything from twrps system, data, the whole shabang! Even lost my root! and access to on board flash cause I've been trying to recover using twrp with absolutley no luck. I still have the original stock unrooted backup saved to my pc from when I first installed twrp. Can someone please help me? I'm really out here trying to reach out for some help. didn't even know where to post this. Thank you guys. Note to moderators: If this is the wrong place to post this then please point me to the right direction and I apologize.
