Is there a standard Android audio / voice recorder app that I'm missing? I've seen a couple in the Market but they don't look very good based on the reviews. I just want to be able to record hour long lectures to SD card in a decent format. Is there something "standard" that is usually included?
Thanks!
I would like to find something like this for recording calls. Preferably automatically, as MP3s to a folder on my SD card.
this post might get more answers if you posted it in the general Android/Software forum, since most Android apps will run on the Vogue, they are not phone specific, so best to ask there instead.

Has anyone heard of getting iTunes to work on an PPC?
I'm thinking like the Motorolla phones (Rokr, Slvr, V3i, etc).
Funny thing, the only reason I really care is I have a bunch of purchased music that i'd like to access on my phone...

Matt,
The only program I heard of that can do it is PPC tune sync......or something like that. I don't know how good, if at all, it actually works. But basically it just syncs with your iTunes to sync all your MP3's.
thanks for that info. I looked up that program, and it looks like the only way is to burn them to a CD and rip them to the phone...
Could be worse, I suppose...
I will ask around and see if anyone has something more appealing.
I don't use iTunes (just copy to my SD card). But will keep an eye (and ear) out for something else.
Wave recorder
Use a wave recorder to record your music into new format.
Good one is Jetaudio.
Yes you might lose quality but you will get files you can use anyway you want.
BTW loss of quality is not even that big because you are recording a digital waveform that is actually damn acurate.
RECORDING AUDIO FOR PERSONAL USE has never been iligal as far as i know.

cool, thanks! I wondered about doing that, but hadn't ventured down that road... I'll check out that program.
Audacity
Another brilliant recorder is Audacity and its all free.
Once you have tweeked it you can get a better sound than just a wav recorder, and if you have the time this is a good bit of software to record your own tomtom voices.
Hope you get somthing sorted.

A year has passed and in the mean time i think i ahve seen some app around.
Is that software that will emulate background sounds (such as being at the dentist) whilst you are speaking to someone on the phone?
If so, can I have a link, please?
hahaha the idea is awesome!
I remember looking for a voice changer. And what I could understand from the threats is that Windows Mobile does not allow you to inject audio (or something like that).
However it could be cool if it could output on the external speaker as you're talking.
Is there an mediaplayer that can playback on the external speaker only while you're on the phone?
There was one available when I had a symbian phone, so im assuming there must be a WM one around somewhere.
Video recording app now in the market, tested and works ok overall but no sound. To stop recording hit back button. Very buggy!!
watts da name of it
yeah it's working well.
very, very buggy mind you, alot of force closing but, hey, it works i suppose.
quality's not too bad but it's really slow, so as long as you keep still it works fine
i'll get a little video uploaded to show you.

Been trying to find it myself, all it has in the program file is a bunch of blank pics! Man its a start but buggy as hell!!!
on the website it says there's gonna be an update in the next 2-5 days so lets hope the bugs get ironed out. also i'd quite like to see more stable recording and sound
but maybe i'm asking too much
Interesting. Pity about the bugs and no sound, but it's a start, which is very good.
Good start. Bring on the updates.
Keeps asking to update! very annoyin
i saw this app today, for some reason decided not to download it
but its a "good" start
hope to see this being updated constantly.
How could u not even try it out .
I grabbed it as soon as physically possible.
It needs a lot of work.
And yes, MJPEG
Really needs some work haha.
EDIT: I just realized that my post has a lot of smilies
Update Released!
New update with a much cleaner interface. The videos are stored(i use this loosely) onto the sd card in /.org.android7/videorecorder. Uses about 16m for 10 seconds of video. The audio works as long as you also have the VoiceClient installed, it's not very loud but it's there.
After opening the app press record to open the recorder window(your not recording yet) hit menu-record to record and the same to stop recording.
I'm curious how the recording is working? It would be nice to at least be able to re-assemble the recordings on my machine.
In the video folder there are two file types blah.3gp [16kb] (appears to only be the audio) and a group of blah.jpg [~225kb] images (tho these are not viewable even on my pc?) any ideas?
The videos it makes are not viewable on any of the other viewers on android either. (the only thing it's really missing)
Well, it seems to get better with updates.
2 things i realized...
1) When you replay a video after you record it, it plays like its on fast-foward or 2x.
2) If you delete a video from your phone, the video gets deleted(Why is 30 seconds of recording 32 Megs by the way?) BUT the audio files from the video(which the file type is .jpg also, weird?)stays in the anroid7.org folder so they never really delete, you have to manually go in there and delete them when you USB to your comp.
Either way, i consider the effort and applaud him for the first video recording app of its kind on the android OS, i see potential in the future.
built-in video player?
I'm confused.. I know g1 doesnt have a built-in icon for video player but i just noticed that i can open a video file using an astro file manager (unless astro has a video player itself).. it has an auto-rotate function too and looks like the Video Player in the Market.. hhmm.. And currently, I dont have any video player program installed in my G1... Can someone clarify this?
Ya, I've tried rebuilding the 'video' into something useful. The Audio file name is xxxxx.jpg.3gp (amr i believe) and the images 225k each ~2/sec don't appear to actually be .jpg, nor can i get them open with .gif .bmp .jpeg .png as extensions
this is on windows, maybe they'll turn up something more promising on *nix.
I quit testing this.
It's not encoding nothing only take fast pics and save de audio on 3gp format.
It's good to see that we can take pcitures so fast because this show us the real posibilities with this cam on HTC G1.
Google has to build something using the internal h264 posibilities of decode/encode(i guess) to encode the pics and audio on real time(too heavy processing ?)
Till that time....just wait and see
It CAN.
WinMo guys did.
Prove me wrong.
HTC Touch Diamond T-mobile G1
Main specs:
Qualcomm MSM7201 CPU Qualcomm MSM7201 CPU
192 MB of RAM 192 MB of RAM
3.2 MP Camera, no flash 3.2 MP Camera, no flash
OS: WinMo OS: Google Android
Videorecording:
352x288x30fps None.
So:
1) It is definately technically possible.
2) Hey, WinMo does Android, the open source, WTF???
Where's Our Video Player?
Does anyone remember TCPMP / Core Player on WinMo?
Why can't we have that satisfaction on our G1's???
Is it the hardware-decoder thing? Is it OTW?
Anyone know what's up?
There is a video player, It's called Video Player....
I have had my windows phone for a couple of weeks, the HTC Surround. I went to the AT&T store and was looking at the Captivate. Did some quick browsing and to my surprise everything worked. I loved the icon format, the animated background, the ease of navigation, the multitasking, the sound was ok, it looked like flash was supported. I did not get to view any movies but the screen looked good. So I am thinking about exchanging my Surround. But I need a few questions answered.
1. Are there many available (free) apps
2. Does the software convert movies, and is the movie player included
3. Is there a FM radio built in
4. what is the available storage
thanks for any help

The phone running 2.1 does not support flash 10.1 but there are froyo roms in the development section that do.
The android market has many free apps.
The stock video player supports many formats but if you need to convert I'd suggest handbrake.
Currently there is no FM radio support and I'm not sure if there ever will be.
16GB internal and an external micro sd card slot.
Sent from my Captivate
3rd party apps?
Is the phone open for 3rd party apps or just the apps thru AT&T?
Is there an IRC chat client or a police scanner?
What about video news and AM/FM talk radio apps?
Any GPS apps?
thanks
You can sidelad apps if you read a "how to" here in XDA there are also more than 100,000 apps in the android market and I would say that at least 40,000 are free, switch to android, wp7 will die soon, plus the captivate will have true expandable storage. Seeing as how you can't even get official WP7 SD cards and u can use any SD with android.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
got it
AT&T exchanged my Surround for the Captivate (Galaxy S) today. So far very happy. Better everything except the Surround had more sound, but its an OK tradeoff. I liked this phone the moment I saw it. Plenty of free apps, there's even an IRC client. Thanks for the advice. I'll be hanging around here learning the phone

rooting phone
OK I got handbrake...not sure what is the right extension and resolution is best or what it will allow.
Does rooting your phone reset the phone back to default or do your settings and programs remain intact?
I enabled USB debugging mode, and now when i go back to the USB menu I now see 4 options (kies, media player, mass storage, and ask on connection)...is that right?
When i connect and choose media player the phone appears on my PC...if i choose mass storage, a new drive letter appears but i cannot access the phone...maybe it is becasue I dont have an SD card installed?
After rooting, should i delete the update.zip file on my phone?
thanks
Rooting gives you access to system files and folders. Nothing is lost unless you do a factory reset or master clear.
Now that GV2.0 has the ability to record calls, i thought some people might find this useful.
MT has recommended CallRecorder:
https://market.android.com/details?...sMSwyLDEsImNvbS5za3ZhbGV4LmNhbGxyZWNvcmRlciJd
You can also try the trial for CallRecorder at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441643
Other phones have used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983187
If you've tried any of this please let us know how they work on GV2.0.
NOTE: Call recording only works on GV2.0
Call Recorder works well with just the generic 2 way call default and not the android API. Initially it did not seem to work till I reinstalled it, but I also restarted, and reconfigured, so it could be any number of things I can not quite tighten down. Total Recall does not seem to do so well, both with profile A or B, or fudging with any of the settings, it would not play any of the files it placed on my sd card, nor would the files play with vlc. It could just be me though.
