Froyo: Picture wont resize when sending mms - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else have this problem? The pictures wont resize when I send them out, resulting in a picture that almost one MB and most people cant even recieve them.

and many people can't even send them! sending using handcent they get resized to a manageable size.

Can also use picsay (works fine with Froyo) to resize pictures for MMS

This sizing problem was also present in 2.1. Looks like they haven't fixed it on this build, maybe the official update will be fixed.

This is how I've always done it, although I must admit I was disappointed to find Google hadn't fixed this for 2.2 given how simple it is to adjust.

with froyo FRF85B this problem with mms size don't disappear

My superphone cant send picture messages. That is so stupid. SO STUPID.
Edit: maybe it's because I'm on cheap ass t-mobile? My wife's slide usually gets "generic network failire" when trying to send or receive mms. I wish I knew who to complain about

Mms.apk can be modified to change the size if you've got root.
I have to say though, it's monumentally stupid of Google to have done this.
EDIT: Complain here, maybe some notice will be taken: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6231, wouldn't hold your breath though, I created that issue in Jan.

I think my phone is bugged, any help?

Yes this is the development thread, and all I really have is a problem, but I think it's something only solvable by you devs.
My phones sms has been completely Effing up lately.
I will get the notification up in the bar, and I can pull that down and read into the message, but if I open Handcent or the default app the text won't show up and will not be there.
So reasonably I stopped using Handcent, and Message widget and all sorts or things like that, wiped my phone, cleared the partition, flashed a new rom. Different firmwares [1.6 and the new open eclair]
But nothing really seems to help or work, apparenlty mms has been failing a lot which I know is more so on Tmobile's end then it is my phone but idk whats up, tonight I get this new Android notification
"com.android.mms a large number of sms messages are being send. select "ok" to continue of "cancel" to stop sending"
whenever I hit send, I haven't yet rebooted to see if it persists but it's a pain.
Is there any device log or collection I can submit so someone can look into it, possibly a bug? Virus? Somethin' stupid like that?
Thanks.
p.s. and my inbox isn't full or anything ridiculous like 1000+ messages, I've got about less than 50 currently, and when I said stopped using Handcent and MessageWidget, I mean uninstalled.
This happened to me on rare occasions while I was using Handcent. But it doesn't happen when I use the default messaging app. So I assumed it was due to handcent. Not quite sure why you're getting the other problems though... =/
This happened to me as well when I changed to a 2.1 rom. I chose to go back to Dwangs 1.6 rom until the 2.1 roms have been completely stable.
Hey try using ChompSMS. I think its better than Handcent SMS

That doesn't sound good at all.
Have you checked with t-mobile to see if you are sending a stupid amount of text messages? It could be someone is sending spam messages via your phone or something. It could explain why you are unable to receive messages.
I think you are from the government, trying to find out whom on here knows how to subvert there android espionage. I for one will state to you officer, that I know nothing about this, and am stupid to the whole concept of bugs.
PS Do not try to trace my post, as both me and my computer are wearing tinfoil hats (with the shiny side out).
In all reality, one trick I learned as a teenager to check if your phone may be bugged, is to find an old business that still uses a switchboard phone system (this was hard in the early 90's, and may be impossible now) and phone them. If your phone was bugged, then they would see two lines coming in as one and become quite confused.
Whoa guys, by "bugged" I meant viruses not I'm being spied on haha.
It's occured on the 2.1 build Open Eclair
and a Cyan 1.6 build.
With and without using alternative applications for messaging.
I got sick and tired of it so I decided to go back to my most solid rom I've ever used.
A Soul Life 1.5 build, and I haven't had any troubles yet.
When I preformed the nandroid backup however it still tried to act like my sd card was partitioned and the market was buggy for a few but the cache is cleared up and it's all good now.

Run for the hills it's the linux virus! Disperse!

So lately on 2.2

Everytime I try and save a picture it saves it as thumbnail you get in the messages and when you open it comes out blurry it does this both on Gallery and Gallery3D.
Anyone have any ideas?
So many views.
Also this is happening on my friend Mytouch Fender as well.
User error.

LMAO.
I meant when we receive MMS the picture are small and or blurry.
I read somewhere that it's a T-mobile fault because we're a head of the game on rom's so they automatically resize it to the smallest. :/
this is due to how your phone is set up to handle mms. in messages go to settings and see if there's an option to spoof your phone as a different model for mms. i use custom and type in "nexusone"
works like a charm. this problem totally turned me off from froyo and i was so excited to find the fix

Mms

I'm using zenexp 9.7 rom. Works perfect but I decided to try something different so I downloaded the cm7. Full 8 cyanogen and I loved it but certain mms won't download it tells me download unsuccessful so I went back to Zenexp no issues there wit mms so my question is am I doing something wrong why can't I get certain mms to download?
intermittent mms is a known issue for CM roms, but I would say that the goodies you get with CM7 gingerbread specifically, it's worth not getting a few mms IMO.
Yeah, I get that too. He's right though. Maybe one day it'll get fixed.
I've actually had this problem with froyo too, not just GB. That's why I'm back on a sense ROM. It's outdated but everything I need works, as I get and send a ton of picture mail for work. Unfortunately sacrifices sometimes need to be made. Sigh...

I think I've read something about how Sprint uses an "uncommon" method for handling mms, and therefore its not 100% compatible with AOSP/non-Sprint ROMS.
A workaround may be available though. This is just a thought, and I don't send/rcv many mms so I cannot easily test it. Just throwing it out there and maybe someone can provide results.
I know you can access your mms via your profile on Sprint's website. I assume that all mms still go to your account, regardless of whether or not you can view them traditionally on the phone. Based on that assumption, I would think that you could bookmark a link to the webpage and view the missed mms from the browser in CM7.
Any thoughts?

Smaller textsize in the messaging "app"

Is there some way for me to reduce the text size that that app used. Because I find that even a normally sized text takes up a lot of space on my screen. Initially i hated the SMS threaded view and preferring the more classic way to deal with texts.
But the HTC Desire managed to make it acceptable, and now im back to starting to being annoyed by it since I have to scroll to actually see the last text or the one before that >_<. So....
Is there anyway to fix this and remain native, or would i be forced to go for another messaging client?
I would go for another client like GO SMS, ChompeSMS or Handcent. GO works great here and don't has those big letters!
Well while I may be forced to change to another client, I can live with that.
BUT if possible I actually prefer to fix my "issues" natively before going for another app. Not becuase I lack app space, but more because thats how I am.
use Go sms instead - besides the ability to set fontsize individually theres thons of other nice settings to tweak which the stock sms client doesnt have. And also nice themes to brighten up the experience alot.
You could also try to change lcd_density:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992834
It will affect all apps though. But to the better in my opinion.
Or try a different system font, less dramatic than LCD density but may not realise the same benefits.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=989941
Or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=994544
Well so far Go SMS might look like a keeper. IF ONLY I could actually get it to show the contact images and not just show blank "faces".
Anyone know a fix to that?

My problem is only with the texts. So I am trying out Go SMS for the time being. I don't feel the need nor desire to mess with the LCD density as I have already played around with LPP to get 5 rows in my app drawer as well as at least +1-2 grids both vertically and horizontal on the "home screens".
I tried out Go SMS last night, but i noticed that the phone did not remove the "1 new message" from the lockscreen when i read the sms with Go SMS. Do you know how to fix this?

AT&T sending video through MMS problem

Everytime I try to send a video via text message it says the size is to big even if the video is a second long. Anyone else have this problem?!
As long as the video is smaller then 600kb (att Max size) you should be ok
When I record two seconds of video it surpasses 600k... Am I missing something here? I should be able to send a video text... My friend has AT&T and is able to.
Are you recording in 720p? That will make the video larger
Nope. Even then shouldn't we be able to send videos? Can someone record a 10 second video ans text it to a friebd to confirm that it's not just me.

Confirmed you are not the only one. I just took a 10 second video, a 10 second mms video, and a 1 second mms video. Phone would not let me send any of them due to size limit exceeded. Have been able to do it plenty of times in the past though so it may be related to CM7. Not sure though. Hope it gets figured out.
Weird.....the 10 second mms video file is only 358kb but the 1 second mms video file shows that it is 420kb. Regardless, I tried just now to send from file explorer instead of gallery and size limit reached on each one.....would not send.
Hmn... Paying for sms/mms texting and I can't even send a 5 second video... Wow.
If I recall video messaging is something att charges extra for. Ill find out
I have sent them before....all ok as long as it was under 600k. I believe it is included in data package.
So that's still odd we can't send one even if it's under 600k.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I just tested. I had no problem. I did use freshly captured video, not pre recorded.
Update:
Tried with pre recorded video. Still no problems.

What setup are you running.
I am on CM7 - 5/19 build.
I haven't seen anything in cm7 dev or q&a thread about this. Just want to know if I can rule out if it is rom related our not.
Mosaic III Diet
xcals Kernel I think
JK4
I believe I had this issue on Firefly as well a few months back.
At least we can rule out rom specific issue
