Smaller textsize in the messaging "app" - LG Optimus 2x

Is there some way for me to reduce the text size that that app used. Because I find that even a normally sized text takes up a lot of space on my screen. Initially i hated the SMS threaded view and preferring the more classic way to deal with texts.
But the HTC Desire managed to make it acceptable, and now im back to starting to being annoyed by it since I have to scroll to actually see the last text or the one before that >_<. So....
Is there anyway to fix this and remain native, or would i be forced to go for another messaging client?

I would go for another client like GO SMS, ChompeSMS or Handcent. GO works great here and don't has those big letters!

Well while I may be forced to change to another client, I can live with that.
BUT if possible I actually prefer to fix my "issues" natively before going for another app. Not becuase I lack app space, but more because thats how I am.

use Go sms instead - besides the ability to set fontsize individually theres thons of other nice settings to tweak which the stock sms client doesnt have. And also nice themes to brighten up the experience alot.

You could also try to change lcd_density:

It will affect all apps though. But to the better in my opinion.

Or try a different system font, less dramatic than LCD density but may not realise the same benefits.

Well so far Go SMS might look like a keeper. IF ONLY I could actually get it to show the contact images and not just show blank "faces".
Anyone know a fix to that?

My problem is only with the texts. So I am trying out Go SMS for the time being. I don't feel the need nor desire to mess with the LCD density as I have already played around with LPP to get 5 rows in my app drawer as well as at least +1-2 grids both vertically and horizontal on the "home screens".

I tried out Go SMS last night, but i noticed that the phone did not remove the "1 new message" from the lockscreen when i read the sms with Go SMS. Do you know how to fix this?

Close apps and pictures question

Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful information on here. I just received my G1 2 days ago and I'm loving it so far (had a wing), but there are 2 things that REALLY urk me about the G1.
1) Battery life
2) If I go to the pictures app (the stock one), it opens up every single one of my pictures on my phone
Now, regarding those 2 things, I've got a couple of questions. I did some research and am currently running the "close everything" app and wanted to get your thoughts on it. It seems to close things, but I can't really tell. Not being able to close apps has KILLED my battery life.
The other thing I wanted to know is, is there some kinda app that I can run that will open up the picture viewer in folder form? I have OI File Manager, and I know I can look at pics like that, but it's only one by one. Anybody have any clue?
Oh and one more thing, I'm running the "chomp" sms app, but I hate getting two sets of messages (one for chomp and one for the stock sms). Is there a way to stop getting both notifications? Can I delete the stock sms?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

1) The Close Everything app does not really "close" everything, so to speak. It does "kill" some processes, but since actually killing requires root, it does not do it completely. However (I do have it as well), what happens is, it kills necessary tasks that are running and will display what it had closed. From there, if Android needed something running, it'll display that.
2) If you want to view the pictures, you can download Android Gallery. It'll display the pictures side-by-side on the bottom, and large on the top (if that made any sense). As for viewing in folder form, OI is a good file manager. Personally, I have "Linda File Manager." With Linda, you can view all the running tasks, uninstall applications, and take a look at your phone and SD card's content.
3) To disable the stock SMS.. Go to Messaging > Menu > Settings and disable the notifications and [something along the lines of] disable auto retrieve. That should fix the problem for you so you have chompSMS running ONLY.
Hope it helped.

Is increasing email font size possible?

Is there anyway or any tweak to increase the font size in the stock email app? I have 20/20 vision (I think...I hope so) and it still hard for me to read. I get about 100-200 emails a day so reading small font really tired my eyes out. I searched on Market but couldn't find any third party email app worth while like the stock one.

Check out spare parts. Thats where you would change font size.
Yeah I did try it, it never did anything. Having multi-touch there would be supper! heheheh or at least a zoom option.
Anybody? Is the email app close source or open source? Maybe a dev can modify it to put an option in there. Spare Parts setting never stay. as soon as I get out of it, everything went back to normal.

What SMS app do you use.

I was wondering what Messaging app you guys use, Chomp SMS, Handcent SMS, the regular default Messaging, or an other. I'm interested in your feedback in what one you all use and what you think of the others.
i wish there was a hero messaging port, i really like how that looks, most of the time i just use the default one though
Ive Both, and they got very erritating to me in different ways after a period of time..
Chomp - When I used it, slowed down my phone unbelievably. After close to wanting to exterminate my phone, I uninstalled it.
Handcent - I used this lately, I liked the features, it was slow for a while, but some updates, and it sped up quite a bit. I liked the "Pop-up" feature, because it was less of a hassle to reach my messages, but it quickly became an annusiance because it would light up my screen when I would have it out in public and I would have random strangers looking at my personal buisness on my screen..
Lets just say I uninstalled it very quickly after a few experiences like that.
-So I just use The Default Messaging service now. lol
Thats just some insight on my experience on other applications. ;]
Default (well, default from cyanogen rom) with SMS popup.

You can change the settings in the menu so that
a) It doesnt light up your screen, or
b) It doesn't show the contents of your message in the pop up, or both of the above
or c) It doesn't pop up at all
It's very customizable
sms popup ftw
I WAS using ChompSMS until last night, switched over to Handcent SMS to give it a try. Never looked back.
I love it beacuse of the timestamp option that ChompSMS doesn't have.

Same here lol
Where's the option for "None of the above because SMS is an overpriced and underfeatured relic of the nineties"?
/\ /\ = weirdo.
Handcent.
Used Chomp for 2 months. Individual text tones for contacts was great.
Once Handcent updated with this never looked back.
Chomps create "new message" is bigger and easier to use. But Handcent custimozation is superb.
Handcent all the way. There is no reason to use any other app (besides default, if its just your preference). Handcent has EVERY feature a SMS app could ask for, at least for any app on the market, no point in Chomp SMS.
Personally I really don't have any speed problems with Handcent, but for real...every setting you could want, handcent has, plus its constantly updated and new features are added.
I used to use Chomp, but I am tired of apps that look like iPhone apps (Handcent included).
Now I use the default app and SMS PopUp on Droid. What I really want is something that looks like the default app, splits messages over 160chars, has a time stamp and has the ability to send texts to groups.
That would be perfect.

i think that might fall into the "other" category.
for me it depends. i had used handcent since i got my phone, but then at one point it started having problems with recieving messages but not keeping them(and somehow they didnt stay in the default messaging app either!). so i was losing messages, unacceptable. i went back to default. default(on cm of course) truely is the best of all of them, its just very plain and the least flashy and minimal functionality. but otherwise still always has been the most reliable. so i got stuff like sms pop up for a while and other options. but i saw handcent got updates so a couple weeks later i came back to it and i love it again
i tried chomp. i do not see why anybody would ever choose chomp over handcent. maybe possibly over the default, but better than handcent? ridiculous!
i'd like to know some of the settings or maybe screenshots you guys have of your handcents since its so customizable

and handcent does every single one of those options....
to me, it seemed like handcent was too cluttered. yes, there were an amazing amount of features, but it took so long for me to actually get something i liked that it wasn't worth doing it every time i flashed a new rom. chomp is for me

How so? You can make it look just like the default Android:
Menu > Settings > Conversation Style > Android
I think he means the style of the general interface...I choose Chomp over Handcent because it feels less cluttered (especially the popup).
If the default app had a BIT more flair to it I'd be all for it...also I don't know why android doesn't have a mass sms feature even yet...that's just ridiculous.

Messaging without left/right bubble/boxes?

Is there any way that I can go back to the look of Messaging from Android 2.2.2?
I've just moved into my Note (running ICS 4.0.3) from my trusty old Dell Streak, and am very disappointed to find that messaging uses the common speech bubble layout, which I hate. 2.2.2. on the Dell presented messages in a black and white text format, one message underneath the next, and I'm extremely keen to get this back on the Note.
Is there any way I can either tweak Messaging 4.0.3 to look like 2.2.2, or else can anyone recommend a messaging app that doesn't use left/right side speech bubble/boxes but presents messages in - dare I say it, at the risk of sounding arrogant - a more adult way?
Thanks.
That isn't the ICS messaging app, it's Samsung's skin. There are a few different messaging apps such as GO SMS but I've never used any.
Many thanks.
I've installed Handcent and I think I may indeed be able to tweak it to my liking. Under a "Bubble settings/conversation style" you can choose "Android", which is very close to what I'm used to.
Problem solved - I think!
Good to hear you solved the problem. The beauty of Android, if you don't like something change it!

Changing the Background of Messages

Hi all,
I'm new here and am hoping someone can help. I have a Galaxy S6 Active. Pretty much since day one, I have used a third party app for texting because I didn't like the limited choices for backgrounds in the stock app. I prefer dark backgrounds on my phone and the few standard backgrounds for messages are all white or light colored. Using the third party app has been fine, until yesterday. That's when I got my new Gear Sport smartwatch. Apparently, you can't have a third party texting app in use if you want to be able to text on your watch, so I ditched the third party app. I'm now left wondering if I just didn't look hard enough in the Galaxy Apps or somewhere else to find a darker setting for the stock messages app on the S6 Active. From the little bit of research I've managed, I've learned:
1. the stock messages app isn't the same across all of the S6/Active/Edge(+) phones.
2. the stock messages app isn't the same based on carriers.
Is there any hope for me?
Many thanks!
Install a different theme on your phone. Go to Settings/wallpaper and themes/Themes tab and find one you like. I have an ICS theme on my phone and texts show up with a dark background and white text.

Thanks loads!! It worked like a charm.
A follow up, seemingly related question: since switching to the stock Messaging app, there have been occasions when I have swiped the screen to respond to another notification or even when I have simply swiped to open the phone that the Messaging app automatically opens. I thought that it was because the icon was at the bottom of the screen and that I was somehow inadvertently opening it even though that's where it's always stayed since I got my first smartphone years ago. So I moved the icon and it still happens. It wouldn't be such a problem if it didn't also open up the texting thread of the same person every time. If it just opened to the list of conversations, it wouldn't be as annoying, but I don't want people to see my texts. I have a lot of nosey people in my life.
Thanks again!!
