I've been reading around but haven't been able to find
Many things to speed up my phone.
Are there any other things I can try besides setcpu
Autokiller and overclock kernels (make my phone crash even at 595mhz)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
HtcDream

My config
Here is my configuration, it's pretty fast :
Own compiled CM-kernel with:
- OC up to 614MHz (595MHz appears to be the best)
- BFS 318 (boosts up the system)
I currently have two issues with it:
- Sometimes, bootanimation is displayed twice (I'm investigating on this)
- When activating Compcache from SpareParts, a kernel panic occurs (but compcache works normally after the reboot)
Compcache activated
No Swap
NO AutoKiller, TaskKillers, etc.
Here is a flashable update.zip you can try.

what exactly is this zip??
I'm having the same problem.
I just upgraded to CM-5.0.7-DS and right after flashing the ROM (after Wipe) I noticed my HTC Dream was faster than before, but after restoring my data through MyBackup Pro I noticed that I was once again experiencing sluggish and slow performance.
I wouldn't blame MyBackup Pro, because if I didn't do the restore, I would have manually gone ahead and setup the phone with the same Home apps, data and settings that it already had.
I use pershoot's undervolted-overclocked kernel. I use the latest setcpu always. I make the max 576 mhz and the min. 122 mhz. I set it on boot and put the CPU governor on "ondemand". I did not put any profiles and did not mess with the advanced options.
Then I use 32 mb swap, and compcache. I use the launcher known as "LauncherPro" (on the market, it is free). I use Apps2SD but all the big, heavy apps I use everyday are on my internal memory and everything else is on the ext4 partition.
I am using the ROM SuperBad v1.3 (a modded version of Cyanogen 5.0.7 but still basically the same thing.) You can flash SuperBad over Cyanogen without wiping.
I use a class 2 sdcard and my phone is SOOOOO FAST!!!!111!111!!!1!

I never liked MyBackup Pro. It messed up my phone so much that I had to wipe and restart. Use Titanium backup to backup and when you have to restore DO NOT RESTORE ANY OF THE DATA OR YOUR HOMESCREEN.
Or just do the old fashion setting the ROM back up routine. It may take longer but the ROM is much faster that way.

Over on Cyanogen's forums there is a zip that makes it so you can type jit-on and jit-off.
Trust me you don't want it. There is a reason it was left out.

No screenshot needed. This ROM uses the default LG homescreen.
This is just a stripped down original ROM, with few tweaks. I like it that way
I know this is old, but thanks Apparently, this and void are the only light ROMs that don't come with Darktremor's apps2sd. I dont like putting everything in the SD card
My ROMs will never have app2sd included.
I'm using a newer version, with Zeam instead of LG launcher. But i don't know if i can use Zeam in my ROMs without having issues with the author of the app... So i didn't upload it.
Anyway my laptop is broken, so i don't have a computer to use. When i earn enough money and buy a new one, i'll upload another ROM with a new look.
Why do you say this is old?
EDIT:
I managed to boot my phone with only five apps, but of course it wouldn't do anything...
I could remove more apps and make it lighter, but this is the minimum stuff needed to have full functionality without FCs somewhere. If i started to remove more stuff, i would lose basic apps, or make FC.
I also didn't enable hardware acceleration by default because i didn't see any improvement in performance. Same goes to stagefright. Only visible improvement was in quadrant, but that really means nothing.
Most people that complain about phone speed, should look at the amount of apps they install.

Because it was on the last page. Sorry, I was just being paranoid about mods sort of bashing people for opening up old threads

This makes this the most sensible ROM out there (that's my opinion) On my previous ROM, i couldn't disable stagefright for some reason, so I flashed this. I'm still playing around with HW acceleration and JIT.

Agree. With the amount of apps I have because of this rom, I dont have those long term usage slowdowns where only a reboot could "clean" the RAM.
Also, I'll try to make a ROM of my own(soon, granted im not lazy). I'm running Arch Linux (main), but I have been really really lazy on finding the appropriate (arch equivalent) packages for compiling xD

This ROM doesn't even have one month!
There are lots of new threads, and this isn't a popular ROM, so it went to last pages...
I thought about adding a kernel that could enable oc, but my phone works so well that i didn't see any advantage in doing that.
It's better to keep things simple and running.
About arch, can't help. Never used it. I'm a debian user
I also hardly reboot my phone. Only when i forget to charge battery.
Are you seeing any improvements with hw acc? I didn't. I enabled jit by default because it was so talked when 2.2 came out. But never tried to use phone with it disabled.

Not really. However, with the stock ROM at stock everything, I get a 400+ quadrant score. In this ROM with HW acceleration and JIT enabled, I get 555. I'll test it again with less variables and factors or stuff.
I'm not turning them off, btw. I might come across something well that used to not work properly with HW accel off
I've just installed your rom.
Restored apps and data with Titanium Backup.
Well...
AWESOME ROM! Thank you very very much!
It is so fast and stable.
Very very good work
I've only one problem. I've installed calcoulator and calendar apk. All fine for the first one but i cannot sinc gmail calendar nor exchange calendar, and when i go in to the calendar options, it give com.calendar.com error.
To restore apps from original ROM, always copy them to /system/app (dont forget to mount it first as read-write). Lots of these apps have issues if the go to /data/app.
After cppying them, change their permissions to 644 and reboot.
I dont use sync stuff, so it was removed...
First download the zip file with apk removed. Uncompress it, and copy to /system/app these apk:
calendar.apk
calendarprovider.apk
googlecalendarsyncadapter.apk
googlecontactssyncadapter.apk
calculator.apk
These should be enough to have calendar with sync, contacts with sync, and calculator.
If you installed these apps to /data/app, dont forget to remove them first. If you remove manualy, you must delete files in /data/app, /data/dalvik-cache, /data/data
EDIT:
This ROM only has gereric mail app. If you want gmail app, also copy gmail.apk
My primary mail account is gmail, but i only use generic email app. Never really needed gmail one.... And all works ok
Thx today i'll try with to add
calendarprovider.apk
googlecalendarsyncadapter.apk
googlecontactssyncadapter.apk
as you said
Thank you very much
Edit:
It works! Thank You very much!
I have a question... Do i need to partition my micro sd for this to work? thanks in advance.

I have had similar problem, not with Dynamic ROM, but the problem was the same. The problem was the overclock, I was using winno overclocked to 652 Mhz. When I went back to tha original frequency Haret worked as always.
yep, overclocked winmo causes haret to freeze. always set it to 528 mhz before booting android, no matter which oc-app you use.
dynamics 2.1 is overclocked by default, ultrashot explained it in his thread and how to set standard frequency.
So what should he change(please tell the correct lines) and what should he type there?
The same problem for me, tried changing frequency but i don't know if i'm doing it correctly.

On the Dynamics 2.1 he says:
Overclock may be disabled by resetting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ultrashot\Overclock\IsEnabled value.
Also you may notice that integrated Android Launcher disables active overclock, so you may use any overclock tools without need of manual disabling.
Overlock may be disabled via \Application Data\OC_disable.lnk as well.
I use WinMO Energy ROM which is not overclocked by default, to overclock it, and of course to go back, I use WiMoSpeed_V1.06.

The line: ''acpuclock.oc_freq_khz''. It's probably set to 652 MHz, so it looks something like this: ''acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=652000''. So if you want 600 MHz, type: ''acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=600000'' or anything you want (in KHz!) If you don't have that line, then it's not overclocked.
So, after having installed the last few iterations of COS-DS (April 21st through May 1st) I cannot seem to get ADW EX installed or any other custom home application. It always ends with that the application cannot be installed. Yoshi RC6 and 7 haven't had this same issue and honestly I've never encountered it before. I've tried fix permissions, wiping caches, switching install location.
I also notice in the thread someone makes brief mention to this, but is replied to by Roalex as being fixed in the latest rom. (which at the time was April 26th)
Any Help?

I would think that is happenning becuz u have the default install location in sd-ext, so try installing it in the sysytem memory
As I noted, changing install location doesn't work. In fact, I don't use Sd-Ext and don't have the partition on my sdcard

Try doin a fresh install, wipe everything and reflash the rom.
EDIT: Before u do that. There is a known bug that still installs apps in the phone memory even though you set the ext partition as the default install location, so they wont install, they will only install if they are installed in the sd card. Are you sure you have an Fat32 partition and ext4 partition on your sd card?
did u click allow moving(COSsettings/Application)?
As I noted, I've tried reflashing the rom (I've done it multiple times for for each of the older and newer versions of the rom that I specified). Furthermore, I stated I don't ever do SD-EXT, the partition simply does not exist for my card. I find it buggy and nasty and quite frankly I should never need it if I have a responsible amount of apps for my phone.
One of the requirements for the rom is to have a ext 4 partition.

number of reasons an app can't install
COS sets market d/l cache to /data/download
this could be the problem
when an app installs it looks at free space on data, and then takes away 10% of the total size
so assuming you don;t use custom MTD you have total data size around 90mb
adw is about 1mb (just over)
so 9 + 1 + 1 = 11
we add adw size twice because cos d/l the temp file to data
do you have enough space on data?
it could be something else
I use ADW Ex , and it was fine with COS
BUT I installed without wiping data
(later I deleted /sd-ext/data and /sd-ext/system to start fresh I use Firerat's ddb )
either way ADW Ex ran fine
how are you installing?
a logcat of what happens during install would be nice
I made a todo list
logcat is on it
I want to write a one stop guide to bring everyone up to speed on tools like adb, logcat, fastboot and compiling maybe throw in a totally basic Linux vm to do it all (some license issues with that , so don't hold me to it)
short version
adb logcat > alogcat.txt

I'm currently on Apex 10 and my phone is behaving oddly. I usually have over 80mb of memory available, but every time i open a app and close it, the launcher reloads. I also cant have more than one app open at the same time. Each time i move to an app, it reloads. So i was thinking that flashing to stock and back to gb roms would fix this. I have a old captivate which came with eclair. So can i just flash back to eclair using "I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0" which i used to use before.
If its worked before why wouldn't it work now? I'm confused with your question. I can't remember if it has Bootloaders or not, but I would recommend flashing a stock rom with out them (just look in the package with winrar or 7zip to see if it has boot.bin and sbl.bin (primary and secondary bootloaders)
Flashing a different kernel could solve ur problem as well. DarkCore kernel ,the one Apex comes with, has aggressive LMK (low memory killer) settings which is y ur facing that side effect. If u'd want max performance then go for the latest talon 0.5.1.2 - 1200 (big mem if u want an extra 13mb free ram and don't intend to use 720p video recording as it disables it) and once done with flashing talon in cwm look for MemoryFreak in ur apps where adjust background apps to 48 , zram to 160 and swappines to 50. Apply and restart.
After all this u'd still not like how it works I'd reflash Apex, but starting from the roots ( back to stock ) and clearing all (data, cache and dalvik) followed by apex ,and offcourse make sure u have gb bootloaders
Thank you
Thank you. I decided to follow your advice and install talon. Before that, just to be safe, i decided to disable lagfix. Disabling the lagfix fixed all my problems. The phone is now more responsive than ever.

Apologies if this has already been covered, i have searched beforehand i promise.
I have a a Galaxy running on Stock Gingerbread Firmware, and while it is slightly better than Froyo for lag issue, is nowhere near as fast as it was with OCLF oN Froyo. Unfortunately it only worked for 2 weeks before going even slower than before he fix so i removed it (after some messing about).
From what I have read, changing or patching the Kernel seems to be the best way to fix the lag issue, but there are so many different kernels from various developers, I really don't know where to start.
Can someone recommend a Kernel that will help fix the lag issue and get the phone working to it's full potential (it was lightning fast after I first installed the OCLF)?
I have installed firmware with Odin, rooted and installed OCLF previously, but that is about as far as I have messed about with my phone, so no expert. So if you can point in the direction of a guide to install too, that would be amazing (though i could probably find myself, once i know what Kernel i'm using)
This is the full details of model/firmware etc:
Model: I9000
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000XXJVO
Kernal: [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXJVO
Thanks in advance
**ok, just realised i posted thread in wrong forum, should have gone in Q & A, apologies. Unfortunately, can't delete or move**
Try semaphore 1.8.2bm, use ext4 app v1.3 to convert to ext4. Use acid tweak to remove journals from system and cache file systems. Set lmk to 56 mb, use screen sensitivity fix, use smartassv 2 and sio and you'll have a fast phone that is solid with great battery life, remove profiles from setcpu if used. I also use darkys zipalign script and 3g script, works really well
Edit
I'm using stock odexed jvt with custom theme, all Samsung bloatware removed.

Thanks have found the kernel will give it a try.
Since i posted, I have installed a SpeedMod Kernel CWM which i used to root and change to Ext4. I assume once i change back to rfs it is safe to try this kernel?

I think you need to convert to RFS, then flash semaphore 1.8.2bm using SGS flasher (wipe cache & dalvik cache afterwards). One you are on Semaphore or Galaxian, you don't need to convert to RFS, simply flash!
Then use ext4 app V1.3 to convert to ext4.
I've uploaded acid tweaks zip file, apply this zip file from CWM.
Reboot, edit the /etc/system/init.d/*acid* script, comment out the line for the
/data file system. I have uploaded my acidtweak file.
Also uploaded extra scripts from here, there and everywhere. Please remove the ".txt" file extension and make the files executable. Probably best to try each file one at a time so you know the effect.
If you are running Semaphore 1.8.2bm, use smartassv2 and sio, and the sensitivity tweak, SD card tweak, I don't think you need any other tweaks, but you can try!
Note that the tuned gsp.conf file is for the UK, I normally get at least 8 satellites very quickly with an accuracy of 10m (sometimes 5m)
Note that the 56Mb script sets the LMK value to 56Mb and should run later on so overwrites the semaphore value (usually set to 48Mb or 64Mb)
Let me know if you need any help
Thanks for that. Though I think you may have overestimated my knowledge lol
So far, I have installed the Semaphore Kernal, Used Ext4 to change the filesystem to Ext4, Applied some of the mentioned tweaks in Semaphore such as Smartass2 etc.
I haven't cleared cache and dalvik, would it be safe to do this now? What does this do?
Now the part where I struggle:
I have no idea how to edit acidtweak file (though I did try applying the zip file and my phone would no longer boot, getting errors about not being able to mount data etc)
The uploaded scripts: I can remove the txt extension, but how do I make them executable? Do I then copy them to my phone and run them?
Once again, cheers

press three power button, enter recovery mode, choose apply zip file, choose acid tweak zip file. Reboot. You can now copy the acid tweak script into /system/etc/init.d and remove the . txt files in this directory will run when the phone boots. I use root explorer to make files executable, I think the free es explorer app may do the same.
You can copy the other files into this directory and enable then by making then executable. Long press on file, options, click on executable boxes (3 off)
If you are a noob, always best to backup /efs folder, you can do this with root explorer, long press on folder, copy, go to sd card, paste

I have tried applying the Acidtweak zip file, but then my phone fails to restart, will not pass the Initial Boot screen (not the animated one)
I can access swm but id displays the following errors:
E: Unknown volume for path [/data] and [/cache], can't mount /cache/recovery/command etc
Have had to flash the softwre again to get it working.
Had you converted to ext4 before flashing acid tweak from cwm?
