Running CM 5071
For some reason YouTube doesn't seem to work right.
Sometimes it freezes and force closes when I try and play a video... and if it DOES load up without a freeze/force close I will hear the audio just fine but the picture will stay frozen. It just wont move, If I skip ahead it will show that frame, the audio will still keep going but the picture will still remain frozen... what could I possibly try to fix this?
Any ideas on this?
Same problem.
One of 2 things happens:
1. video plays but is stuck on the first frame, sound continues
seeking in the video will change the frame it is stuck on
2. you get an error: 'sorry, this video cannot be played'
Hitting 'ok' here will actually cause a force close, or the phone will become so lethargic that a battery pull is necessary
3. you are greeted with a black screen and the only response from the phone is the haptic feedback on the back/menu/home/search buttons.
The buttons are illuminated, screen is not.
This was happening with Froyo, and now CM 5.0.7
I went back to CM because of this problem, and it seems to have persisted.
Someone has GOT to know something....
Thank you. You have described our problem so much better than me, hopefully someone knows of a fix.
I'm guessing this has something to do with FroYo.
Before you upgraded to FroYo, did you at any point install the "Always HQ" YouTube hack? I was wondering if that had anything to do with that, maybe pushing the original YouTube APK will fix it.

No.. but my limited knowledge of java is not helping me.
I am trying to figure out what is going wrong... there is a lot of 'not so nice looking' stuff in the logs.
What I have tried:
CM 5.0.6, CM 5.0.7
Wipes of davlik, cache, data, etc.
fix_permissions
'Fix apk UID mismatch' in recovery
Nothing has changed.
Stuff worthy of noting.. there are a LOT of these interesting lines in the logs:
05-27 06:50:45.408 W/ResourceType( 113): Resources don't contain package for resource number 0x7f050000
05-27 06:50:45.408 W/ResourceType( 113): Resources don't contain package for resource number 0x7f020005
The 'resource number' at the end is often repeated and there are about 30 or so lines.
I suspect the froyo update has left something behind that has to go away...
Still looking
do me a favor, use skyfire and try to watch a video. For me it always gets stuck on 25%, I wonder if it's related.
Edit: seems like this is also a problem with videos loaded on the sd. Tried watching a tv show I downloaded. Black screen, lights lit, force close.
video I recorded.. Full audio, frame freezes. Seek freezes a new frame.
Camera in video mode is causing a hard crash on mine.
When I change to video mode the phone locks up for 10 seconds with no response and then reboots.
I am guessing that's the watchdog in the kernel kicking in and rebooting it.
Overall not a good sign.
I am " bumping" this post because I am experiencing the SAME THING EXACTLY!!!
I performed all the same steps as the previous posters.
I was on Froyo... and it happened then. Then I did a Nandroid restore back to CM 5.0.7 and still the same problem exists.
I cannot play ANY video files... Youtube, TV.com, camera recorded videos.
I do hear the audio.
This is so aggravating. Everything else is running fine. But for me this is a big issues.
Thanks for any input, help, or advice!
Found something in a Google search, but it was posted to the cyanogen forums, which have been down all day.
The Google cache of it does not have the information.
The topic has the title '[Solution] Nexus One Won't Play Any Videos after Froyo'
Looks like someone @ cyanogen figured it out but we can't get at the forum to see the fix.

I am showing plenty of free memory so I wonder if that device actually exists (/dev/vdec)
I can't get the file explorer running in DDMS for some reason... and I just don't know squat about this kind of debugger.
I am a gdb fan myself
But I keep poking around......
Solution found!
It's the radio!
Get the older radio from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6026480&postcount=3
Call me crazy... but it works now.
I flashed:
32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03_2 download MD5: c55116d119e9e30cffc86875dce1a560
camera works, phone works, youtube works....
Also I am on T-Mo.. no idea if this makes a difference but just in case.
videos work again after flashing the old radio! Thank you for finding the fix.
this is not just froyo, because this happened to me 2 weeks ago and my youtube app STILL does not work. i am still on 2.1 and there are other posts about this exact issue, but no fix has ever been found. i think it just is something on googles end, cause i did not do anything and suddenly my youtube started doing this. the video freezes but the audio continues.

All of the symptoms I had seemed related to video.
Youtube did not work, recording video caused the phone to reboot, and so forth.
Does your camera record video?
One thing I noted only hours after I installed froyo over CM was that some streaming apps force closed..
Then the next day I noticed the youtube problem.
Then today is when I noticed the camera problem because I don't shoot video with the phone and the still camera still functioned normally.
I was running stock, then I went to CM, then to froyo and back again.
What is stumping me is what the radio had to do with this?
I don't know enough about the internals to come up with that.
Sorry I wish I had more for you
Nope I can still record video just fine. No reboots here. It's only with the YouTube app which doesn't work anymore.
Have the same problem.
CM to FROYO, with new RADIO, back to 5.0.7 and Youtube or camera viedo does not work.
Will try downgrade RADIO image.
will use this one:
32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03_2
I can also confirm that downgrading the radio allows the youtube videos to work again. Whew!
Maybe that's why the official froyo release is taking so long -- because the new radio trashes youtube?

Hello guys,
I have a really strange problem with my ringtones. Yesterday I installed a universal player , called TCPMP or smth like that. I dont know if that is related to my problem but I thought I should say. Today i missed a few calls because my phone didnt ring...at all. I checked in my ringtones folder (I use mp3s), and they didnt have any icon and when I tried to play them it said: " there is no application that supports this type of file", or smth like that. So I found smth in a thread here, and I editted the registry and my mp3s had icons again and the phone recognized them and played them again. BUT THE PROBLEM JUST BEGINS: the ringtone, the default one and the ones assigned, plays interrupted. U know, like an old cassette , or better saidlike the memory would be very full and the ringtone interrupts. Lets say a 10 seconds ringtone plays 2 seconds and theres a small pause and so on. It happens for every format: mp3, wav, mid. AND it doesnt happen when I play them in Windows media player. ONLY as ringtones. What should I do, besides a hard reset of course??? Thanks very much.
I have the same problem with the ringtone I have (it's a custom-made wave file, mono, 22KHz, 16bit samplerate, lasts about 1min 30 but usually never plays to the end ), I get the problem where it's almost like a buffer underrun, the audio cuts out for a fraction of a second, and then continues playing again, then does the same thing a few seconds later...
... I'm starting to think that it might be a CPU usage issue, too many things running in the background at the same time for the device to be able to play the ringtone and show that stupid animated graphic on the caller ID window when someone calls (I have pictures set for a few of my friends, but for everyone else it just shows the default graphic, I wish I could selectively disable it so only my mates' pictures show up, but I've not had much luck with that).
I've set my CPU to Turbo mode again, turned it off as it was using too much battery, so as soon as someone calls me I can see if it makes a difference to the ringtone playback issue
The issue is file associations. Once you add a new player mp3 ringtones aren't associated with Pocket PC Media Player & don't work. WOrk around is to use WMA ringtones (making sure that WMA is not associated with your new player)...
I've already tried re-association MP3 with WMP, to no avail, I tried hacks and patches suggested on another forum thread, and I tried the MP3Ringtones registry patch... No joy.
I'm beginning to suspect that there may be something tieing up the audio playback or excessively using the CPU, as I get slight jitter when playing back audio, and some MPEGs can't play back at full speed in PocketTV (for instance, there's one full-frame, 1300kbps MPEG file which PocketTV can't even render over 50% realtime speed, including in benchmark mode which doesn't playback any audio)...
... Currently in the hunt for many task managers to try and analyse the problem... Tried the one in the Airscanner Anti-Virus package, no joy (as I'm not 100% which processes are essential and which are extraneous to my XDA's operation) and I'm also looking for PHM Task Manager, but I can't get onto the PHM site and the download doesn't seem to be mirrorred anywhere.
The plot thickens yet more...
Update...
I've cleaned up my XDA somewhat, removed the O2 Active UI amongst other things, blah blah... I think I've managed to get the audio to stop cutting out entirely, but nobody's called since I've made the changes so I can't test it. Odd little thing I noticed, the audio glitches are happening every 5 seconds (regardless of when you start a file with audio playing / someone rings, triggering the ringtone playback)... It's almost as if there's a background process which is cycling every 5 seconds and using 100% of the available CPU for a fraction of a second... It's really starting to piss me off.
I have a fair few processes running when I check up on them using something like PHM Task Manager, but I'm not sure which processes are necessary to the XDA to keep it running without fuxoring it up... So I don't want to go testing purely on random choice. The audio glitching is definitely a regular occurence (every 5 seconds), very very strange...
Yes it's very annoying. Meanwhile I upgraded my qtek to the latest and it worked fine for a while. The ringtones were playing smoothly. But after that, I started to install some apps and games and now it's doing it again. I feel like throwing it to the garbage can. I heard that Pocketzenphone ****s up some phones and I have it too. Didnt try uninstalling it yet, cause it's really annoying to set it up after reinstalling. But I will do it soon to see if thats the cause.
Same issue
I have the same issue on my XDA2i- ringtone tends to "cut" out for half a second almost as if the unit cannot buffer the information fast enough- although this happens even on low memory/bitrate ring tones. I have also noticed that when I am playing some games (such as Skyforce) it "pauses" for a fraction of a second fairly frequently- although this is less noticable in flight mode. I wonder if any of my other apps is causing this- I run Pocket Informant, SPB Imageer, Pocket Music etc. Something in me is also questioning the O2 Active software and whether disabling this would help. Do you run any of the above apps?
no none of the above. Alsi I've heard that spb apps tend to create problems sometimes. I suspected Pocketzenphone and after I reinstalled it , the ringtones finally work fine and smoothly. I had to do a backup on the memory card, after that I did a hard reset and after the restore, my ringtones worked fine. But I guess my Mms problems are caused by Spb pocket plus. I say do a full backup then a hard reset and after that see if the ringtones work fine. If they do, it means its a third party program issue. Good luck!
My XDA 2i isn't running the O2 Active software any more, thanks to this forum providing a method to stop it from running , and I'm still experiencing the problems. I'm wondering if perhaps the animated photo caller feature is causing the CPU to overload (having to render the animation and play the sound file at the same time...
I run SPB Pocket Plus, but I don't really want to uninstall it (if everyone had the same problem, there'd be loads of complaints on this forum about it, surely?)... I think I might have to give it a try, though.
Aside from SPB Pocket Plus and O2 Plus 1.6 and the small Switch app (by hfrmobile.com), I have no other apps running. I try to keep CPU load on my XDA as low as possible, to save battery life, but obviously there's still a problem somewhere.
The problem happens with the CPU set to both Standard and Turbo mode too, so this makes me then think that it might not be a CPU issue as much as it's a problem with the method the XDA is using to decode and playback the audio... But I've checked my file associations (a handy feature which forms part of Pocket Tweak) and the .mp3 association is associated with Windows Media Player, as it should be.
Currently cycling through combinations of Today plugins loaded, killing all other processes except for the essential ones, and trying various things out. Will report back in a bit, after I've gone to have my root canal done one one of my front teeth, oh the joy.
LOL about your tooth problem.. Well I dont know what to say. It seems that for me uninstalling Pocketzenphone solved the problem. Myabe you should try upgrading to the latest unbranded formware , as I have.
PocketTV is processor intensive and I don't like it. Try The Core Pocket Media Player - much smoother. Check that you are running in Turbo mode (Settings/System/Power/Processor).
I used to be able to run PocketTV fine in either of the modes, very bizarre. I think I had an underlying problem with the system, something fuxored up somewhere along the way... I hear that some of the other problems I'm having are fixed with the 1.04 radio, so I'm currently flashing to that.
I didn't install TCPMP before now because I'd heard it can cause MP3 association problems etc etc, I'll definitely give it a shot once I get my XDA up and running again (and if it doesn't still have the problem where it's unable to connect to the O2 network, a problem it developed earlier yesterday afternoon - probably because of all the messing about I was doing with it trying to find out why my ringtones were stuttering!)
On the off hand, you don't happen to have any links to a freeware CPU indicator app? I have a couple of free process manager apps, but the only one I could find which would show me realtime CPU usage was Pocket Hack Master, and I'm absolutely and utterly penniless right now (I truly know how it feels to be skint now that I'm a student, I don't have two pennies to rub together ) If you have any info, I'd love to hear it. If you're using PHM too, then fair enough
The ROM flash worked, and I'm now running version 1.11.162 of the firmware with, crucially radio version 1.04. I read in one thread that this 1.04 update to the radio software helps to get rid of the stuttering ringtones, I've tried ringing myself a few times as I've been adding software to the XDA again, and I've had none of the stuttering problems I was experiencing before.
Give it a few days while this new installation beds itself down, but for the moment, we're looking hopeful! I think it's probably a registry issue or DLL issue, something multimedia-orientated is causing a conflict and leaving it there even if you uninstall it or reassign file assocations in the future... What a pain.
Anyway, it looks like the radio upgrade might just have solved it, and I believe you can upgrade the radio on its own now (see other forum threads for more info about this, I don't have the links to hand right now).
Well you've done well to upgrade, but I had this problem even with the exact version that you uograded too. I use that one now. Its not a firmware issue, but, as you said, a dll or association problem. And, about that tcpmp I would think twice, as the s.o.b. changed my file associations and the phone dindnt recognize mp3s at all. Do a full backup on your card before trying that one.
Hmm, strange. I associated pretty much most of the files EXCEPT for MP3 and WAV with TCPMP, deliberately, to make sure that it didn't try to hijack existing registry settings. I might dump the entire registry to a backup file with PHM Registry Editor before I try associating the files.
I've also not turned on photo caller ID yet, it just shows the default window with the caller information without that dorky animated graphic.
I've also not installed SPB Pocket Plus yet, I'll have to try that sometime soon as well. I can remember the problem not starting to happen until a while after SPB Pocket Plus was installed though, so I'm not sure if that was the trigger for it or not. Hmm...........
Pocket plus might "kid around" too, as I suspect it for messing up my MMS receiving. I can only send, never get the mms. But thats another story. The idea is that, for some of us, Pocket plus also does a bit of a conflict there.
Resolved it
My "pausing" ringtone problem was resolved simply be removing O2 Active software. The whole unit works better now. Installed SPB as well to customise it, and it looks much better now as well. The only feature I think I will miss is the "connection setup" facility where you choose either GPS or GPRS and it sets up connections. Is there any way of running this without the O2 Active interface?
I've just had the same problem on my xdaIIi, although I've had the problem a few times before. I actually get very few calls so find it hard to pin-point when the problem starts. It's nothing to do with the processor (I've overclocked mine) and it's nothing to do with TCPMP, I've had this on my device for ages with no problem. Never had SPB Pocket Plus so that's not the problem (for me)
I'll tell you how i got rid of it and hope someone else actually finds out why it happens.
I simply backed up my device using xBackup, hard reset and restored using backed up file.
Problem gone.
Hope this helps someone.
It's gotta be some kind of file association problem. Let's put it like this though, I paid for SPB Pocket Plus, and after I hard reset my device the problem hasn't reappeared. I probably did something else to it too (when I first got it I tweaked it to ****, to put it concisely), but aside from about two features, I don't miss the 'enhancements' SPB Pocket Plus gave me.
Shame, cause I paid for it 'n all.
Don't see why a file association would cause a pause while ringing, it wouldn't play at all. If you choose any of your mp3 players it will play quite normally if you just played the file, the problem only occurs when the phone rings...
I've also know the problem can go away by it's self without messing around with different players/settings.
With my 663Mhz overclocked xdaIIi i can have over 4-5 different players and have them all play the same file at the same time with no problem, so it's not an overhead problem either....
I have also noticed this '5 second' rule too, this is not a file association problem!
Maybe too many dll's left over from trying various different programs?
It's strange how doing a hard reset and restoring from a backup that actually had the problem goes away! It should come back again theoretically.
I've never had the o2 interface installed on my device for nearly years and i tried lots of different programs to clean up my system (bad unistalls, leftover shortcuts, etc) but made no difference! :-(
Hello everyone ,

To sum up, there's little 'freezes' lasting 4-5 seconds where the screen doesn't respond to any inputs.
It occurs randomly and without reason.
HTC released an hotfix regarding this problem, that can be found here:

However, this is for the Blackstone. When executed on the X1, there is a message box saying
"Please use the correct device to install this hotfix program"
The fix can be extracted and there's a _setup.xml that seems to tell what the .exe does;
I was wondering if it were possible to port it for the X1 as the Blackstone and the X1 are somewhat similar?
NB:
Hard resets didn't helped neither, freezes are also present.
I'm using this:
ROM Version: 1.02.933.3
ROM Date: 08/29/08
Radio Version: 1.06.25.29
Software Version: R1AA017
I also have these freezes occasionally.
I managed to install the files from the hotfix the other night, (because, well because I like to experiment) I spent 5 times as long removing them.
The display inverted, but not the calibration!
ill change the cab info install at your own risk.
however i do not have this issue. I have an issue of after long idels of not using my x1 at work the screen will apear to be cracked but the images are really cracked. a soft reset fixes this issue. (this is ment for a seperate thread) just giving you info on other display bugs on the x1
also can you upload the cab as the htc site will not allow me to download it.
My issue is actually with the camera... if you leave the Camera application on a long time, like 20-30 minutes idle, it will eventually crash, and it will say Camera.exe has stopped responding (or something like that, asking if you want to send a report to MIcrosoft)
just get freezes when i use the HTC album. other then that, nope.
Here's the .exe (renamed to .cab since xda seems to block .exe),
for those who can't manage to download it.
@Shadowmike
Thanks for your help
Sorry to go off topic a little :
Regarding your idle screen problems, I don't have any of it (maybe because I'm experimenting tweaks with it a lot so don't have time to idle really long )
May it be related to GWES:

To sum up, there's an interesting registry value named PORepaint that can take values from 0 to 3.
The key I would change may be:
HKLM\System\GWE\PORepaint
The factory default on my X1 is 0 but for your problem, I would set it's value to 2.
Personal Feedback:
When you press the ON button in order to wake the screen, the screen goes blanks for few milliseconds (blank flash), but it's repainting the entire area.
No major speed issues noticed between 0 and 2 values.
Hope this helps
I have the same problem with my X1, using the latest R2 rom (generic UK). It annoys the most when playing games like Bejeweled 2 and the screen suddenly freeze for a few seconds although the game and time keep running in the background and when it stop freezing I already lose time/points. It also happens with every other game I tried playing, even after hard reset. Any fix available yet?

Exactly what I get. It is most encountered in games where you touch the screen rapidly. Suddenly the whole OS freezes for 5-6 seconds then continues for some time until you get it again. It is very annoying.
Exactly. It happens ONLY with rapid screen presses. I observed this when typing.
Yes. This happens to my X1 also. It is possible to reliably replicate this bug.
The shadowmike's Cab didn't do anything usefull. So the HTC's Hotfix for the HD doesn't apply
Anyway, I made a Video describing this bug:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cOhX8yY5Yk
Hm.. Yesterday right after I did that video, I flashed my X1 with the newest official ROM (version 1.03.931.8 (dated 12/21/08)) from this site. Then, I installed the shadowmike's cab. After the soft reset, the problem hasn't (yet) surfaced (plus the system seems more responsive). Fingers crossed .
Edit: Nope.. False alarm. It still happens. Though rarely..
yup...
it happens...
doesn't really concerns me though...this is windows mobile anyway

it happens to me as well...i think this generic bug in x1.
So how do I reliably test the bug ? It happens to me sometimes, but I did not find the pattern yet.
Watch my video (top of this page) to see how I did it (I've shot myself (with a camera ) couple of times doing it).
If that doesn't work, try to load some app. Like any game that somehow reacts to your touch (even Bejeweled works). Then try touching really fast and repeatedly. It shoud happen.
Here's a sound recording of me tapping a jewl in Bejeweled (i'm really hitting the display, do it more gently). It should give you an idea how fast you need to tap. Right before 0:06 the screen stopped responding, i did 4 taps to verify, and then another, and then it started responding again (3 more taps). Sometimes all it takes is 5 seconds (like it did here), but other times, your hand will start to hurt before it happens. Just rest a little bit and then try it again.
Has anyone else experienced this?
After the Froyo update on my S, video playback has become jerky at times, to the extent that the video stops but the sound continues. This never happened before....but it returns to normal after about 10-30 seconds.
I'm playing back xvid and divx avi files, approx 700mb.
Can anyone help please!? it's getting really frustrating!
Yeah I have also experienced it. But not in all videos. In mine it is just minute that is for about a 2 seconds and it becomes normal. I am slowly coming to the conclusion that I am better off with Eclair.
My videos are fine, but MP3 playback hiccups...also apps force close all the time, even mid-call at times...Eclair was better, 2.1.1 made it bad and 2.2 has made it worse
Galaxy S flashed through Odin...unrooted..don't know if I ought to risk rooting it..any suggestions?
I have the same issue..already did a post about it.
did u guys restore apps/system using backup?? as far as I know this could be the issue.
I will do a reflash from scratch this weekend and try videos on a fresh install.
I am convinced that this is one of the issue. I had flashed a custom rom froyo and I have also flashed through kies hack JPO. In both versions of froyo, I have the same issue. I have not restored any backup or anything.
yeah I just upgraded to asian jpd via odin was on stock optus rom. Hardreset etc. lagfix fixed via z4mod rooted. Experiencing the same jerky video playback with standard divx videos. Tried another data wipe but problem persists.

Yeah I have also experienced it. But not in all videos. In mine it is just minute that is for about a 2 seconds and it becomes normal. I am slowly coming to the conclusion that I am better off with Eclair.

Did you find any solution to the problem.. me too stuck with the same issue..for me mkv's play good, without any issues..but if its avi back comes the jerkiness..
at least i'm not the only one....
I'm still having problems and I had to give up watching somethign on the way to work as it was so bad and kept saying "cannot play this file".
I started from scratch, done a factory reset after upgrading and it hasnt fixed the problem. Also I've tried to close down all programs before watching something and even clearing the RAM, but it makes no difference.
I'm getting really annoyed with it now! Does anyone have a solution? Anyone!!?

It was so bad that I have to revert back to eclair jm1. Wonder if JPX have this issue. Any upgrade yet?
I have watched for hundreds of movies at my HTC wildfire but after yesterdays update to Froyo the video is no more smooth. The problem is so rediculous, the phone became much faster but the video playing .....Will keep searchin for solutions.

I guess it not just the galaxy hardware but other as well... maybe it froyo.
None of the players could help, but yxflash. The main problem with yxflash that together with smooth playing it produced significantly lower quality of video-rendering.
Anyway I've managed to solve the issue. The steps were:
full reinstall of official android 2.2,
hardware reset,
microSD card formatted,
the video converted with Movavi Video converter into Ipod preset or what ever your device needs. That's all.
As the subject line says, I have tried flashing different builds of CM9, and CM10, AOKP, and the only build that works are the nightlies for CM10.1. What happens is, at some point randomly during use, or more commonly when the screen is off, sound will stop functioning and NO audio will come out of the touchpad. On top of this there is also massive slowdown in every single app. I have tried increasing minimum clock speed, flashing new Kernels, Removing android completely and reinstalling from WebOs, Changing my recovery app, upgrading Moboot, and doing a complete format of system, data, etc before flashing. NOTHING works. Any suggestions?
I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried both CM9 and CM10 along with webos 3.0.0 and 3.0.5. I've also done a full wipe and run webos doctor to start from a completely blank slate. My tablet did suffer from the scratchy sound problem under webos 3.0.5. I haven't tried it yet under 3.0.0.
If I reboot, it works for a little while. I'll get some HW/SW info and post it shortly.
[edit]
The lag only happens when the audio stops working. When audio works, there is no lag and it runs like a dream.

I used CMinstaller3 todo all my CM installs. I couldn't find CMinstaller2. I don't know if that has any bearing on this issue.
I hope this helps. I love this device but I've been fighting with this for almost a month and i'm running out of ideas.
Thanks!
I've since found CMinstaller2 and loaded CM9. Same issue.
Another update: Some may be aware of the scratchy audio issue on the touchpad in webos. I experienced this yesterday under CM9. Since very few people have this problem, I wonder if it is a hardware related issue and only a few touchpads suffer from this.

Try the latest CM9 nightly as mentioned here:

Issue
As of today I have discovered that Turning on and connecting to Wi-Fi is the source of the problem. Flashed that new build JC and it worked great until I turned Wi-Fi on, at which point the same issues occurred. Why this happens on all builds except CM 10.1 I am still not sure.

Well, that's certainly strange.
Could you try with latest CM9 again and grab output of 'dmesg' after you turn on wifi and get the failed audio?

Certainly can
Issue
dmesg output attached.
I also have flashed 9-20130714-Nightly and I've noticed an improvement in the audio stoppage. I tried to repeat the problem that augoosto has seen by turning the wifi on and off. I was not able to repeat it. I will keep trying to stimulate the failure. I seem to get a lag only when the audio has stopped, and only when the app/program is calling to make a sound. if I mute the app and not the tablet sound (candy crush is a good one to try this), I get normal non-laggy performance.
Overall things are much better with this build. I probably only have to reboot a few times a day. Previously, I had to reboot every time I wanted to do something that involved sound.
Another thought. There may be some correlation to using the power switch. I just now let it fall asleep on its own, and use the home button to wake it up. I'll do more to see if I can find more correlation.
Thanks!
augoosto,
I don't know much about how sound in Android works, but I took a look at your dmesg output anyway. This line stood out to me:
Code:
[ 162.777248] asoc: can't open platform msm-audio
I would assume that this line occurs sometime after CM boots, because I doubt that your TP is taking almost 3 minutes to boot.
Next time that the audio drops out, try running cat /proc/asound/cards and see if anything is listed. My TP lists a single card called msm-audio in CM 10.1.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
I'm a newbie to Android on my Touchpad and I am also experiencing this intermittent dropout of the audio. I have not been able to narrow down the loss of audio to running any particular application, or sequence of events. In short, audio will be working fine, then, the next thing I know, silence.
For better or worse, I'm running a jcsullins preview build: 10-20130418-EXPERIMENTAL-tenderloin-FOR_LIMITED_TESTING_ONLY_CAM . Everything else has been working fine except for this annoying audio problem. BTW, I first noticed the problem shortly after my initial install and tried to view a YouTube video. The video displayed one frame at a time, obviously very sluggish, and no audio. After rebooting, the same YouTube video played fine, and other sounds were working, too. I didn't think anything of it until I noticed the audio disappearing at random times.
If it helps, I've attached my dmesg and logcat listings captured today as soon as I realized that my sound disappeared. The "Out of memory" errors listed in logcat are certainly suspicious, but could just be a symptom rather than the problem.
-Don
sound card still listed
My sound card is still listed after using that cat line, but I am still no closer to fixing this problem, which I am now experiencing in cm 10.1 as well as of the last 10 builds.

See anything out of the ordinary in my dmesg output JC?
Partial fix
I have found what seems to be the cause of the issue. It appears that the issue is caused by bad blocks in the NAND memory of the device. Last night I did a full format, and before re flashing, I partitioned the SD card in CWM, causing the installation to be written to a different section of the devices flash memory. The audio issues almost completely went away in CM9, now I just need to find a way to identify all of the bad blocks and prevent them from being written to. Hope this is helpful to other users suffering this issue.

This is great news as mine has become almost unusable. I'm not 100% sure how to partition the SD card in cwm but I'll take a stab at it and let you know if it fixes mine as well.

can you please give us the steps for doing this,, by doing this will we loose webos as well ? i have the touch pad with cm9 and have tried different builds but sound has not worked consistenly. in web os it works well.
with these particular touchpads we have, is it better consider some other OS !!
Any progress with this audio issue? It's the only problem I ever have with my touchpad. Incidentally, it never shows up on my daughter's, which has cm7 installed.
Same thing here. Sounds work fine at the beginning, then lose it (after the screen is off for a couple of seconds).
It was working fine at some point using CM9, but since I tried CM10.2, CM11 and now evervolv 4.4.2... I still have that painful issue. Everything else work fine, except audio. It also prevent youtube from playing videos. Videos work fine while the sound is working, but when we lose the sound, youtube videos doesn't play anymore.
I've been crawling the web since last December on this subject, found a couple of thread like this one with the issue but nobody has found how to fix it (or I didn't find it yet!)
If anyone has an idea... please let us know, thanks!
ps.
Here's a dmesg sample output in attachment (and on pastebin.com/FzsXs7fS )

I recently managed to install the latest Mokee rom on my phone, and I must say I am very pleased with it, except for this issues I'm now stuck with: apparently I am completely unable to playback any video on my phone.
At first I tried recording some videos: when I tried to watch them back to check the quality, a popup told me it was unable to play them. I thought that maybe they were not being saved correctly, so I tried to watch them on my pc, but to my surprised they played fine! I tried the opposite process too, playing on the phone videos coming form the pc, and the result was the same disappointing failure in reproducing it.
Then I thought it could be some problem with the default player, so I downloaded VLC from the play store and gave it a go. What happened next surprised me even more, as it would play the first couple of seconds of video before crashing miserably giving an error report log.
I now suspect it has got something to do with the rom itself.
Have you guys got any ideas?

It should be kernel related, that's the same with last audahadi kernel.
