FM Transmitter - how to get it? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Folks,
I am searching the forum and the web but I do not get anywhere with my question:
Now I know the FRYO does not have FM Transmitter support, is there any other ROM or any way to get the tansmitter to work?
Thanks a lot for all your help and to the guys making the FROYO availale!
Cheers!

It has not been implemented, and someone would have to create the drivers needed to activate it, so you not gonna see that feature if at all.

Mods will move this to question and answer forum in 3-2-1....
If you have a motor cliq you can use handler rom from functional radio apk.
I'm actually suprised nobody gas taken the motor driver and at least derived a conceptual driver format or something.
Then again, if I searched the forums before asking I would probably find out why that isn't going to work as a starting block.

During I/O one of the google engineers suggested the easiest way to get fm radio is to pull the drives off the incredible, and piece it together.

What a pity - I really thought this would be something which comes out soon - well I think I am wrong. Maybe I am a minor thinking this is a real cool feature...
Thanks a lot for the replies - as I am not a software engineer I will have to wait.
Cheers!

New guys with a lot of questions.

Hello everyone. As you can probably tell I am new to this forum. I recently bought my first PPC (Tilt) and I am thoroughly happy with my device (thus far). Seeing how I am new to this genre of phones. I decided to surf the internet to see what kind of info was available for my new toy. To make a long story short, after I surfing the internet and visiting many different forums. I noticed the XDA or XDA developers being used frequently. So I decided to do a Google search which directed me here. I must admit I am thoroughly impressed by this forum (website) and plan to be a contributing member. I have learned so much about the capabilities of my phone. You guys are really amazing. Which leads me to my problem? I am having a difficult time understanding the verbiage being used to describe the various different upgrade features being discuss on this board. All That being said I have some question I would like to ask. But first I have decided to condense my questions on one thread as to make it easier for other interested parties as well as for me to find. However feel free to direct my question or to add a link that can answer my question at your convenience as I know many (if not all) these question have been answered in other threads (sorry remember I am unfamiliar with all these new words).
1)Is there some sort of getting started manual that I can used to better understand the various different words being used on this forum?
What does flash, cooking, roms, etc mean?
2) I would like to get rid of all the ATT stuff (for a lack of a better word) that on my phone and upload all the high speed HTC stuff.
I would like to do this in hopes of increasing performance as well as to have all the programs and features that where meant for the TYTN 2. If one could list the steps or refer me to the link that could do this it would be greatly appreciated.
3)How does a person find out about the various different applications or program that are available for my phone?
This would be of great interest to me. In particularly when it comes to music and radio stations. What is the best music/media player available? What is the best program to listen to various radio stations? And what site can I use to research this stuff?
4) Lastly I am really interested in all this voip stuff (Skyp, Google talk, etc). It would be pretty cool to use the internet to make phone calls instead of paying for daytime minutes. How would one go about doing this? Am I to understand that I can used my phone exactly the same way but through the internet?
I wanted to take the time to thank those who answered my question (and those that didn’t) as well as to developer of this board.
Thank you
Bulldog1
i think if you spend some time looking through these forums you'll be able to extrapolate many of these answers.
i'm not trying to be a jerk but your questions are kind of extensive and mostly answered with a bit of digging.
sorry.

No manual - you learn from osmosis.
I am pretty new around here as well... but a long time lurker...
So - to help as much as possible - here is a quick answer to your questions:
Flashing is when you overwrite / rewrite the firmware. It is the method used to put different ROMs on your device.
Cooking is where you create a custom ROM image - so it comes customized with whatever the chef puts on it.
ROM - think of it as an operating system image that is transfered from your computer to your device.

This site is chalk full of information about these kinds of things: Kaiser is pretty new - so hit one of the other forums under XDA. Software sitting on top of the OS should be pretty standard... ;-)

Kinda. But not as well. Data connections are more prone to dropping than voice calls.
It is cheaper to call internationally though... ;-)
So if you have a good connection and you aren't moving... it is a great alternative.

yeah, a glossary of terms would be great. as I read more it makes more sense and I find myself searching some of the terms online. be nice to have somewhere with meanings of WWE, SPL etc mean.
Welcome to the board. I would recomend reading all the wiki's that are stuck in each section and also the search button will bring many many threads on all the questions you have asked. Try this one to get you started. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser Good luck

I'm in the same boat as you. I read through the posts here and found them really helpful, especially the stickied ones about flashing ROMs.
The best way to get rid of the AT&T stuff is to flash your ROM. Flashing your rom to the HTC-rom will wipe the AT&T bundled software and replace it with the set that comes with the TyTn II (although no TomTom).
I've been trying to find answers to some of your questions too (especially where to find good software and media players), so I'm looking forward to replies from the older members.

WWE: World Wide English
SPL: System Programming Language (my guess?)
Welcome to the forum, i am also new. As to your question of what is the best media player, it is TCMP, it plays almost everything (even .flv files!) but support has been discontinued because the ppl made it a commercial product...mind you very tech savy ppl are still continuing support for it and adding codecs and stuff.
to download it and some codects, go to this website:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/ht...cial-hybrid-media-player-all-codecs-here.html
Hope that helped
Thank you. I can understand that some question may too broad to answer in this thread. I understand that alot of my question are answered in other threads and for this I appologies.
The the reason I ask those question is becuase I do not understand the language being used. I have read (reread) the stinky under the kaiser upgrades tabs but still do not understand what exactly it is saying (or what it is supposed to do).
While I agree most of my other questions can be answered in other threads it would be of great help to me if someone could explain in greater detail to me my question number 2 which I have reprinted below.

You guys are great, I can see a sprite of sharing and helping in this forum. Again, you guys are the best, especially thanks to Daniel.
I bought a Chinese unlocked version Kaiser in Hong Kong, and I found out that it is not that convenience to me even though I can read Chinese. With Chinese Windows, it runs very slow. I decided to flash the ROM with HTC standard English ROM.
However, because of warranty issue, I need to backup the Chinese OS ROM, and restore it to its original setting if in case I have to take it back to HTC for repairing.
I am totally new to PPC or WM devices (I used to be a Palm lover), I wonder if anyone of you can tell me how to "Backup" and "Restore" the ROM. Detail instructions will be highly appreciated.
Sorry for my stupid questions, but I really don't know how. Whether I get the instructions or not, YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!

See the problem with what you're saying is...... YOU! Amazing huh? Why not reconsider the fact that not all of us are as "Tech Savy" as you... and not nearly as ignorant. Also, let's consider that he came to a DEVELOPER FORUM for help. You know the place where people trade ideas and software. So, let's all take a quick life lesson from this... If you don't have anything useful to provide, leave it alone. Just because we're 12 and Mommy and Daddy bought us a nice little PC and a cool phone and are too negligent to pay attention to the Bovine Fecal Matter that the little "Monkey" has managed to spread on the internet, doesn't mean the rest of the world wishes to hear your ignorance.
Now, Numb Nuts over here was right about one thing... Google. Search google for "SNES" "NES". The best I've found is PocketNester but it doesn't support Landscape mode which is a little disappointing. (Mario Bros looks awful in Portrait haha)
Second do a search for some of you're favorite games and save all of this in a folder on you're comp.
Using the Date Cable out of the box you can do one of two things.
First plug in the cable and either select Active Sync or Disk Drive.
Disk Drive is a little more convenient but only works with a MicroSD inserted.
Disk Drive - Drag and drop your folder of games on to the phone.
Active Sync - Once its connected, select Tools - Explore Pocket PC on your comp and Drag and Drop directly in to the phone.
Unplug and Navigate to the File Explorer. (Start-Programs-Tools- File Explorer) Select the Nester Cab and install it to the device. Open the Nester Program and the rest should be self explanatory from there.
Good Luck.
Does anyone have any suggestion for a way to control emulators? The keyboard gets the job done, but it's far from great, any suggestions for an external controller? Someone in another thread mentioned using a PS3 controller over bluetooth as a possibility, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been done yet.

Ok, the operational/usable emulators I have working:
PocketNESter Plus - this version was made specifically for the Dash and other landscape screens. Works perfectly on every HTC I've owned 'cept the G1 (for obvious reasons). I'm using it on an excalibur, a tilt, and a raphael as we speak.
PocketSNES: this one takes too much horsepower for the Excalibur, but the others run it fine..one problem here is that I've been unable to get sound working as of yet..tho this is really a minor problem for most games.
I'll be trying more soon

Sorry my friend, I've tried every form of control I can think of and only the keyboard is truly usable. It takes some getting used to, but you'll get it.
oh i see what about picodrive?
Look the creator of this post does have some good reasons to aliens a better emulator. I was able to run pocketnester however I was not able to get pocketSNES to run on my Raphael. I tried for about 5 hours to find a vga compatible snes. I found many links to vga emulators, N0p and Tila builds, however those links were down. The pocketsnes emulator developers website is down. I found one build called SNES9x for PPC Ver .41. This ran Chrono Trigger pretty well with sound. However this program has no onscreen game pad and does not register my hardware buttons. However there is a fix that makes your wm6 run or emulate an older hardware keyboard setting. So the real question would be does anyone have a working vga snes? If you got the original PocketSNES to work that would be passable. I was hoping to get the OpenGL version. I googled and googled.
yea i tried downloading pocketnester but for some reason it would not find my roms or load them up its kinda confusing

Tether GPS antenna

This may have to go in the Q&A section, but i assume it would be something for the devs to look into.
Is there any way to output the GPS data over the USB or bluetooth connections? The same way we can tether the modem of the phone, Can we tether the GPS device of the phone?
Interesting idea. I don't think I'd have much use for it now but I used to have a carPC and it would have been handy for that.
I hope someone can help you
There is an app out that can output GPS date over an ADB link. But its experienced developer use only. I have a carPC and this is exactly why i am looking at doing this. The AGPS module in the N1 would be great to tether to a carputer
i'm sure this is like the 3rd time i've seen the same question asked in the space of two days!
this is a great idea to tether to a laptop which has local maps.
I am going camping and cant use my goggle GPS on my phone so this would come in handy ...
maybe next year lol..
Wish Google would let you temporarily select a state or two for local download for trips, yea that would be great!

[Q] Truecrypt port to Android

Anyone here can port TRUE CRYPT to Android? I am ready to donate if anyone can do this.
Even a basic program that can encrypt and decrypt SD card, at least the external SD card would be acceptable. This way we can be assured that data on the external SD card is secure, and store documents on that.
I looked for something along the same lines for a while, tried every app I could find on the market that was related, but none of them came anywhere near truecrypt's functionality.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate.
Current rom: Perception b8
Agreed. If anyone could get an app that could atleast encrypt the whole external card, I'm good. Don't even want the functionality of mounting n dismounting as a drive.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I would LOVE, I repeat LOVE, if TrueCrypt came out for Android.

It would be super awesome if they ported it to the Android platform. In my experience, BB 9700 is a truly secure device with its full AES-256 encryption. I used to use it before i got my Captivate so i can def say i miss that feature.

Truecrypt has an dedicated forum, I would say ikt would make a lot of sense to go their and propose realistic outlines/requirements of what we expect from a TC version for Android. There seem to be a lot of folks who cling to the notion of "if it is important do not put it in a handset with a Google OS because Google kis teh evil".
Voice your opinions and needs there, maybe that makes a difference.

really not that hard to find. Linking the actual thread won't do anything either way cause you need to sign up for full access. Once you are, just use in site search with the term Android or something.

Trusted boot jumper?

Not wanting to open up old threads and discussions about booting the atrix 4g, but i was just browsing the schematics i found on xda, and noticed what looks like a 'trusted boot' jumper. I don't know much about trust technology in these platforms but someone here may know more.
Brief searches show intel's trusted platform technology, I'm not sure the atrix contains something similar.
but if it does, would this jumper - if changed, allow us to boot anything perhaps?
I've attached a photo of the schematic (i found this trying to follow the good old 'FM radio not working' thread as well).
so yeah, thoughts from those more in the guts of trusted platforms?
please feel free to shut this thread down if I'm just total out of the ball park, but if this is a lead, all be it a hardware mod(depending where this jumper is and how easy it is to change its state on the board), it may be a way to unbrick perhaps.
I'm also aware the atrix 4G is getting a little older now, and interest maybe being depleted given other options in the market these days.
thanks

thanks it was meant good, but still write this to a dev that know how to work with this.
