Has anyone been able to downgrade from Sense UI (Paul's Rom) to CM's rom and keep their facebook contacts linked to their respective contacts?
If so how? Everytime I leave Sense UI I have to go back in a relink all my contacts but if I go from CM to Paul's rom my facebook contacts sync just fine.
So i'm thinking its something about Facebook for HTC Sense. If anyone has any suggestions please come forward.
The Desire rom has been really buggy for me as of late and I just need the speed and stability and CM has been that in the past. Thank you.

The vanilla Android Facebook sync provider matches names. The Sense one matches a few other fields then adds a unique friend ID to the Notes field of each contact for future pairing via Sense.
Ahhh ok so pretty much I have to have the names in there as they are on facebook to go back to vanilla?

I couldn't find this specifically covered anywhere else. Some ROM's have the full activesync implementation in them (Mail, Contacts, Calendar). But, for example, Cyanogen ROM's do not (just Mail). Is there anyway to update this to include Contacts and Calendar? Thanks in advance!

The Rogers-based ROMs (like in my signature) have full Exchange sync capability -- contacts, calendar, mail. The HERO ROMs have this too, but *most* of them run quite a bit slower than a vanilla Android / Rogers ROM.
Just my $.02

Does your Rogers ROM have full Exchange sync wirelessly or also through the HTC Sync desktop program?
Thanks
Yeah, I know the Rogers ROM has the full activesync implementation...but that is my question. I'm wondering if there is anyway to add that functionality to a ROM that doesn't have it already...
I asked enomther (he makes a very good Rogers ROM) and he said it wasn't so straightforward to copy over their sync stuff because it's pretty heavily dependent on the other Rogers components. But you could always ask him and such...
I would also be very interested if there is a way to put full exchange into Cyanogenmod....
I've been reading up on it, and I think what we need is the HTC Framework. Not sure that's just something we can "install" though...
*Update* Nevermind...as Cyanogen apparently DOES include the HTC Framework...
BTW...are there are Donut ROM's with full Exchange support yet?
I just use NitroDesk's TouchDown application. It does a really good job and the price of the app is not too much in all honesty.
Activesync
My .02 cents. The new Sprint Hero supports gmail, activesync exchange and Hero to PC syncing.

No he doesn't:

Is this possible? Like I want the Birthday to be sync with the rest of the info. Doesn't seem to have a slot in the default contacts app. On Cyanogenmod 4.2.3.1.
In my experience with the G1 (have had it since initial release) there has never been an option to add the birth date.
I've only seen that in the Hero contact app. you can always use a Hero rom for the G1, but even still, that doesn't seem to sync the Birthdates with google. I
've installed plenty of Hero roms over and over trying to look for a halfway decent one, and I've always had to manually enter the birthdates.
Until I get a mass confirmation of a Hero rom working great, I'm going to stick with CM.

A way round it is to add birthdays to your gmail contacts then add 'contacts birthdays and events calendar' to your google calendar, then they will all appear in your calendar on your G1.
I hope they fix this.
I can't accept that Google can't..
It is essential info.

Has or can anyone extract the exchange sync (contacts, mail, calendar) that is available on hero or sense?
Maybe in apk format so that we could load it on a 1.6, or 2.x (non hero or sense) ROM?
Thanks for any help, I did a search, but didn't find this request specifically, I apologize in advance if this has already been asked and answered.

The one from the hero rom is restricted to the htc sense ui.
I was hoping it could be extracted the way cyanogen has the HTC keyboard available separately (HTC_IME.apk).
The Sense UI widgets utilize a different framework.....so you will most likely never see these on a "standard" android device....although HTC is currently porting widgets and adding them to the Android Market....so keep your eyes open.
PS....wrong section.
But is exchange sync really a widget? It's intgrated into the data sync preferences. . Kind of like how the keyboard is integrated into the text & local settings.

The exchange is part of the mail widget in hero.
Looking to settle down for a reliable daily rom. Wifi tether and SetCPU Over Clocking are the features I want, but the only one I've tried that does that without crashing is Buffed.
Its one of the best looking but I just learned AOSP's wont work with HTC sync so im contact-less and they also dont have the HTC and Sprint apps.
I love it but apparently most AOSP's don't work with HTC Sync so ive lost my contacts and the release doesnt don't include some sprint and HTC apps.
Suggestions please? Theme and reliability a plus.
Thanks!
Export your contacts from Outlook to a vcard; comma seperated values. Log into your google email account at google.com and import vcard, I would export from outlook to your desktop so its easy to find, once that is done, go to your contacts on your phone and sync them with your google account. the beauty is that they update automatically from that point on and you never have to worry about it again.
SWEET!! This is looking good. Thanks for the advice, I've tried most of current roms /AOSPs and i Really didn't want to leave Buffed, the animations and theme are top notch.
Thanks!
I'm running the ICS ROM by st.matt in the developer forum, and the major issue I'm having that nobody else seems to have mentioned is a lack of facebook contact syncing. I have the facebook app installed, but none of my contacts are getting their pics updated, and I can't seem to add the facebook account to my accounts list.
Is this something anyone else is seeing? Is this already known, but I just missed it?
it is a known problem
Well it isn't a game breaker that Facebook contacts aren't working.
But yes, I have the same problem, but I doubt that it is one that'll persist for long

hmmm..i thought you will need facebook for sense for sycn to happen, since ics alpha was aosp, so i think it won't be able to happen..
Yeah facebook only syncs with sense...
If you're a stickler for contact tidiness, and are struggling with no Facebook contact sync, you could always export your Facebook contacts to your PC and import them to your gmail account and sync them that way.
Although they won't updated should their details change, it's an alternative.
