Help/ Branstorming needed - Tansfering music wirelessly into proper folders - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So what what i want to do hasn't exactly been done yet. First, I would like to manually add mp3 files to my N1 but have them automatically organized into folders by ID3 tags. So it would look like \sdcard\music\Artist\album\track.mp3. I set up a ftp server on my phone, set the music folder as the default directory and mapped it on my desktop but I manually have to organize my music and start the server every time I connect. Second, I was hoping to be able to have a trigger when you connect to a certain network, the ftp server starts. Any ideas?
I'm just looking to create a seamless way to drag and drop music wireless w/o having to deal with itunes or playlists.

if u use windows media player and get the tags correct. when you sync it will automatically organize into the correct folders

Foobar has a moving feature that allows you to create new directories based on tags.
Map your network drive, then in foobar right click, send to X:\sdcard\music\
I'll create the appropriate directories. That's what I do through USB at the moment. (I also transcode them down at the same time.

Thanks but I'm having difficulty finding the send to option. I'm using the newest foobar btw.
And does anyone know a way to trigger an app to start after establishing a connection to a specific network?

Should be in the default right click context menu.
It might be called "convert to" but in the settings you can change it to just transfer without converting.

Why not use TuneSync for iTunes? It is pretty nice, I will try to find a link.

voice Command-> Podcasts?

Note: I have never messed with podcasts up to this point, so I will easily look like I don't know anything on this
There is a lot of stuff to find here related to what RSS reader to use, etc, and I can explore that...but...
I have MS Voice command, and hope to be able to call up podcasts with it. What I'm not sure if is if MS Voice Command requires MS Media Player to operate for playing music. I assumed so, so I thought I woudl download podcast mp3 files, and create a playlist called Podcasts.
But, I find for some reason that when I try to import the downloaded MP3 into the library that it will not come in.
So, I"m left wondering, what is best method to do podcasts on the Tilt, and be able to call them up with MS Voice Command?
Any thoughts based on that? (In meantime, I"ll be reading the multitude of threads on RSS Readers, etc.)
Thanks!
I am gathering from the lack of response that it must not be possible to use MS voice command to play any downloaded MP3s (podcasts).
Yes you can. However, you will need to sync it through desktop WMP. Before you sync it you must fix it's properties though. You must give it a title & Artist name, Genre, Album Name, etc... In MSVC you can only launch media by these types of commands, i.e. Play news, play podcast play "artist name". Read the MSVC help file regarding media selections.
Also depending what you mark the MP3 format as being hanled by (File Asosciation) you can have it play in most popular media players. I prefer TCPMP.
Before you sync it you must fix it's properties though

That must be my problem. I'll see if I can figure that out. Thanks for the input. Sounds kinda painful though, as I'd have to manually input properties on every one I download to get it to load in WMP.
I've been thinking of looking into the TCPMP. Will MS Voice command work with that application?
[EDIT]
Hmmm...actually, my problme is that WMP won't even pull the file in for me to then add the necessary information to synch it. I'll have to figure that one out.

Realplayer "media file type not supported"

I know this error has been mentioned on these boards but it seems to always have been in conjunction with youtube. In my case, I signed up to wauw.com to stream music from my PC and everytime it launches on my phone it uses Realplayer. Is there any way to force it to WMP or Pocket Player?
Do you know the stream format? Sometimes it will download a .m3u playlist file to \My Documents. If that is the case & you can find the .m3u in \My Documents you can change the association easily with a good file explorer like resco. If the file is there, click & hold on it, then select open with & make sure to check the "always use this program to open this file type" check box.
Otherwise, let me know the format & I can possibly help you.
No clue but I have m3u associated to Pocket Player. I decided to use Orb instead of Wauw which works fine with Pocket Player. Thanks anyway.

Music program w. streaming ability from NAS.

I have a Synology 207+ and need a music program on my TyTN II, that are able to access the share folder on my Synology and play the music. I have S2P which is great so I'm looking for a program like that.
As it is a NAS, I don't think it has streaming capabilities. You might want to use one of the following programs/plugins:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-network-folder-plugin-v1-0.html
HTC Network plugin (attached)
...
Use these programs to map the network drive which contains your music. This way you can browse to your music and play it using WMP (I think).
Good luck...
I already map my Synology drive with PPC total commander, so is these plugin then nessesary? I have my videofiles working with TCPMP already, it's just the music files that are missing.
if it only show video and not audio in the same dir mounted then it sounds like the audio is not in a format that TCPMP or whatever audio program can use
p.s. streaming is not the same thing as having access to files over a network
streaming is not realated with files on the clients end at all
Okay, let me elaborate. You're right I don't want to stream. I want access to the music folder on my synology and play it from there. I have it working with videofiles in TCPMP. They are two separate folders.
i'd asume you do it the same way
as a test you could try placing a single music file in the video dir and check if it shows up
Since you were able to find the video files, it should be no problem finding the audio files.
TCPMP doesn't show files with extensions it doesn't support. That seems to be your problem. Although it would have to be a really rare extension, giving the wide support of formats by TCPMP.
Can you see your music files when you browse to the folder using file explorer on your Kaiser?
PS: Just wondering: how have you managed to map a network drive using Total Commander? I didn't know the option existed (as far as I know, the option does not exist)

Gmote Video Streaming

I have been wanting to stream my movies folder on my pc without having to get everything to complicated. Here's how I did it without having to use a bunch of bs. Just browse select and play after some minor setting up.
#1. Install Gmote on your G-tablet
#2. Install the server software on your pc http://www.gmote.org/
#3. Set your share folder on your pc ( movies/music folder )
#4. Run Gmote on your G-tablet
#5. You may have to manually enter your IP if it doesn't find the server.
#6. Once you find the server set the share folder. (movies/music folder)
#7. Now you should see your directories/shared folders by hitting browse
#8. Not only can you use your G-tablet to control the media on your pc and use it as a big touchpad for your computer, hit the browse button, select a movie avi or divx in the shared folder. Make sure you look up top it asks if you want to play the media from the computer or phone. Select phone (experimental) and depending on what media player your using ( rockplayer, stream my media ect. ) it will play your video on your G-tablet. Using this with the docking station and your G-tablet rocks. Works perfectly for me. Nothing big, somebody might have done it before but here you go good stuff.
I also use ORB, Tversity and PlayON to stream all my media to my gtab.
with ORB i can do it anywhere in the world

Good to know, thank you guys. It was just cool to me that Gmote has multiple purposes now

[Q] Access to non default folders in Windows phone 8 for developer

Can an app access and create a specific folder in the Windows phone enviroment? I'm looking at building an audiobook player app and want to allow the user to drop these into an audiobook folder on the computer instead of mixing with the music folder. Could an app create, and could an app access a particular folder outside the default folders for media files, metadata, etc?

From what I have been looking at in their api's and what not, there doesn't appear to be a way to make a folder that would show up when you plug in the phone. Now, what you might be able to do, is create a application folder, and be able to move the audio books into that folder. I believe because of the security Microsoft has put in place, there is currently not a way to access particular folders, unless your app made it, or it was a temp folder.

So it will require a workaround of another desktop app or online skydrive or other api access to get to the audiobook into my folder. I can't just have the user drop into an "Audiobook" folder as a folder the user creates on the hard drive. Bummer. I wish WP8 properly handled audiobook files and this wouldn't be such an issue.
