Alltel HTC Hero - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Don't know if anyone has drawn attention to this (my searches of the forum yielded no results), but Alltel very quietly added the HTC Hero to their lineup of phones -- the first new handset they've offered since November, I believe. It's shipping with 2.1.
Has anyone picked one up?

Didn't alltell merge with verizon a long time ago?

Yeah I got an Alltel hero yesterday, and yeah Verizon and alltel merged but in my area, Carlsbad NM, our Alltel was bought by at&t . So they're upgrading to cdma and gsm towers

The merger with AT&T was supposed to be complete in December, but there hasn't really been much news. I was told there would be no new handsets past December, and the release of a legitimate Android leads me to believe the merger isn't close to final at all.

Not at all true, I work for Alltel and the story so far goes that Verizon had 105 divested markets from Alltel that it had to sell. They sold 79 of them to AT&T and the remaining 26 markets were sold to Atlantic Tele-Network. Only these 26 markets will remain Alltel the other 79 will be converted to AT&T.

Could try our exploit, but I doubt it would work.
Other than that they could try a goldCard, but it seems HTC has gotten rid of those.

Sadly the Sprint rooting trick does not work on the Alltel CDMA phones, I wish I knew how to even start trying to help at finding a workable solution to this.

No. CDMA=no SIM. and if it is a CDMA world phone I doubt people will be able to hack the SIM slot and unlock it. And even if they did it is not equiped with a T-mo US 3G radio.
eh. damn, that phone is supposed to be the best android phone yet

That's an ugly cheap toy. Sorry had to say it. T-mobile needs to step up the game again. They missed out on the great Hero. Hopefully they get the "Dragon" first.
Feeling some mad buyer's remorse over purchasing a MT3G ~2 months ago.
Oh well.
also, +1 for Dragon on T-mo

There IS a GSM Droid coming though for Telus Mobility in Canada which is switching over to HSDPA along with Bell. CDMA is getting phased out in Canada.

Yep, CDMA RIP (include the USA as well)! Such a waste of "space"
Yeah, with LTE (4G), the whole world should be following a unified standard hopefully on not more than two frequencies.
Oh, I hope they use more than two frequencies otherwise there will be too much interference
Very interested in the Motorola Droid.
Questions about Android...
Can you get real time push hotmail?
Is there a wifi router app?
Is there a logmein app?
Is there an orb app (or able to stream from orb site)?
Thanks in advance...

I doubt you'll have an interference problem, being that the rest of the world has the same standard it's only the states now that don't use one standard (we have to always be different). I'm on the bandwagon with CDMA being phased out, even if it is better tech (I don't agree with that statement I'm just saying....) with the rest of the world on GSM it's hard to come out with a good phone that will support either or both.

I have no idea at all sorry.
Try googleing for Android forums. I'm sure they are out there.
I too am slightly concerned about that. We'll need to get to work on rooting the thing as soon as possible. Has anyone started digging into the thing who has a review unit?
We certainly need to find a central location to collaborate.

Nexus or Sprint

Will there be a nexus cdma subforum when it is released for sprint? Also if others are interested. I spoke with a sprint rep using the chat feature on the sprint web site. I had read on their release about the nexus that it has to be purchased through google. So I asked if we would be able to use our upgrade rebates and his response was:
"Once the pricing will be declared for this phone, we could be able to help you with upgrade rebates."
Haven't seen or heard the Nexus on Sprint. If so, they would have to redo everything into CDMA instead of GSM. As of now, I've heard of it going to Verizon and Vodafone
Yep it is coming to sprint:
http://newsreleases.sprint.com/phoe...ol-newsArticle_newsroom&ID=1403426&highlight=
It took about two months for the nexus to show up on att after showing up on t-mobile.
Expect the same time frame after it's available on verizon for it to show up on sprint.
Er, they already have. Verizon is CDMA. Android already supports it, and they need only swap the QSD8250 for the QSD8650 and a few GSM parts for their CDMA equivalents.
It won't be nearly as long (for technical reasons, anyway) between VZW and Sprint since they share frequencies.
if I were you and I already had sprint I'd wait for the HTC Evo 4G.
I love my N1, but being this close to the time 4G is available why not wait a couple months?
True... but if you are willing to wait, then wait for T-mobile to release HSPDA it should br faster than 4G, scheduled to come out this year. Sprint Evo is a great phone, but I think it won't get updates as fast as the nexus one, it being HTCs and not Google.

Sprint + Tmobile merger? What do you think of it?

Seems like a great idea to me. I have / love Sprint presently, have had Tmobile in the past and they are my second favorite carrier.

I've always thought Verizon would swallow Sprint, but I think they wouldn't allow it because Verizon would become a freakin giant.
While I love Tmobile + Sprint, I wonder if it would be the straw that breaks the Camel's back at Sprint. We all know how the Sprint + Nextel thing went... And I doubt Deutsche Telekom would really want to divest... But it does seem that Sprint and Tmobile are in a bad position. I dunno, should be interesting.

If you check the headlines they have been bleeding badly. T-mobile I haven't heard much about though.
sent from my telepathic neurotransmitter.
Would that be possible considering -Mobile is GSM and Sprint CDMA?
Nextel used IDEN, neither GSM OR CDMA. So my answer would be, it wouldn't matter.
(I'm from the UK, so not much real input.. but...)
Much the same as what is happening/happened with the OrangeUK and T-Mobile UK Merger here to make one big parent company, although they are operating still as 2 brands of the parent. Should be fine.

Incredible S U.S. T-mobile 3G?

So with HTC's disappointing line-up for the first half of 2011 I decided to take a visit to HTCs World site. I looked at the specs of the new phones and noticed that under Network the bands listed are Europe/Asia - HSPA: 900/AWS/2100 MHz. Does this mean that I could finally buy an unlocked HTC phone and have my US T-mobile 3G aswell? The Flyer has the same Network specs. Out of the 5 new phones that HTC announced the Flyer and Incredible S only have those specs. The Chacha, salsa, and wildfire S, each have the standard 900/2100mhz band for HSPA Europe/Asia.
http://www.htc.com/www/product/incredibles/specification.html
http://www.htc.com/www/product/flyer/specification.html
Can someone confirm my suspicions? If so I can't wait to see what the fall lineup has in-store. Perhaps a dual core phone. I hate the line up US carriers offer.
I belive that you need 1700/2100 Mhz for T-Mobile 3G

Yes 1700 but is that not AWS. If I'm not mistaken AWS is the 1700/2100 spectrum. So since AWS is stated in the specs for the tablet and phone it should work in the US on T-mobiles 3G correct? I've been waiting for htc to release phones in Europe with US 3G for T-mobile forever. I wish my TD2 had had US 3G. The power switch broke sadly and I bought a used Nexus one and T-mobile made me pay the higher rate for data. With an unlocked phone I can sneak by on the lower unlimited rate.
This is a good news for T-Mobile and Wind users as it supports AWS 3G.
Supposedly it is going to be sold by best buy in the US.. So unless that rumor was false it makes sense to have some flavor US 3G network support and TMo makes more sense (ha no pun intended) than ATT. So AWS on the specs must be true.
Unless all these little clues are an inaccurate vast coincidence.

I guess this was wrong then. Not to mention that the incredible s listing at carphone warehouse says "only at carphone warehouse" which would suggest that it is not anywhere else in the uk although they own a stake in carphone warehouse.

I don't care who sells the phone as long as it really does work with T-mobiles AWS bands in the US. If it's true I can't wait to see the Fall lineup of phones. If anything with a dual core comes out and looks nice I will be ordering it from clove.co.uk or somewhere else it they can beat cloves price.
The ROM is set up for Verizon, plus the original Incredible was with big red so I doubt they would switch carriers with the Incredible name.

You couldn't be any mote wrong. The original is not a US phone and is GSM based. So it makes sense t-mobile could get it. T-mobile UK has it and so do other GSM carriers in the world. Go to HTC.com/www and check it out for ur self. The tech is GSM. You need to learn a bit more about world carriers and phones and ditch big red. GSM is what the world uses. Don't be surprised when Big Red starts to use sim cards.

Is this Incredible S gonna launch on T-Mobile USA?
UK retailers and mobile providers are already accepting preorders.
I'm not sure if T-Mobile USA will get this because it is already being launched elsewhere. Are they gonna launch this phone late?
Verizon already had it in the US (not S). And I don't see any leaked T-Mobile roadmaps hinting an HTC Incredible S launch.
What do you guys think?
Wish it'll be released by BestBuy in states and canada like NS.

If it does it will be like any other phone that hits Europe and Asia first. US carriers will get it 6-12 months later. So if it does come here it will be later on. The thing I'm concerned about is having it work with Tmo US 3G if I buy it unlocked from Europe since it has the AWS bands. I Love buying unlocked phones because some of them we never see here in the states.

I'm sure it wont be long before we see some reviews coming in to verify its AWSness.
One thing is for sure.. I'm not going to pay 499 euros (690 USD!!) for it.. plus shipping.. I'll be waiting for it to pop up stateside for around 500 USD I would hope...

When it gets here the price unlocked will drop to about that. That's how long it will take for it to get here. It will be that old. Most I am willing to pa for an unlocked phone they don't sell in the states is $550. Sadly I would rather use that money for a radiator to help keep my car cool with all it's new found power.
I'm sure there will be at least two different models, a European model without AWS and a T-mobile US version with AWS. Just like the HD2. The T-mobile US one will be carrier locked too. You know I'm right.

The only version that has been announced is the European/Asian one and it has AWS so this one could also be sold by T-Mobile USA.
However the question would be why bother when they already have the recently released 3.8" myTouch 4G with 4GB of storage, the same CPU and GPU, etc, etc. While the Incredible S seems to be better all round, with the exception of available storage, there hardly seems to be any point in adding such a similar phone to the T-Mobile USA line-up, especially when the myTouch 3G was made specially for them.
They will probably wait until October later this year to introduce a new variant of this phone and some dual core HTC phones.

HTC One in Canada

On HTC's website, it says the HTC one is available at Rogers and Telus. Two of the "big three" here, excluding Bell. All of them are flipping horrible providers, just so we're clear on that, but since I don't want to deal with cancelling a contract, can anyone confirm that Bell is getting it? And does ANYONE know, even approximately, WHEN Canada will be getting it? I've searched everywhere, every day and I can't find a straight answer. I know it was announced that Bell would get it, but with all this changing of confirmed information, possible delays, and the general poor service of Bell, I'm starting to think that I may have to wait until my contract is up in September before I can shop for a new phone!
I think bell would be getting it since it sold the One X. I'm currently with Virgin Mobile right now and I bought the phone straight out from HTC. If you want the phone soon buy it over seas or wait till September. This is definitely not a cheap phone.

telus website clearly state that the phone will be available soon
You won't get any answers from Bell until their release date is publicly and officially announced unless you have a buddy who is an upper tier exec there. But wearing my guessing hat, I'd say you don't have to worry. Bell's android phone lineup have always been Samsung, Motorola, and HTC for the last 2 years, and since there's no different versions of the ONE this year, that's what they'll get. Unlike last year's BS where Rogers got the flagship One-x and Bell a-holes picked up the entry level POS One-V welfare phone. Bell hates variety. They only ever sell top end iPhones, Samsung androids, and Blackberries. Good luck wanting a Samsung competitor for android from them, they won't carry it. So count yourself lucky HTC only has one version for the Bell jackwads to sell.
Thanks very much guys. I always wondered why Bell's phone lineup was so small... At least they carry GOOD phones! Mostly...
I think it is now available for pre-orders at Rogers playfuldroid.com/htc-one-is-now-available-for-pre-orders-from-rogers

Yes Koodo is owned by Telus. Although I would highly recommend never using Koodo/Telus. I absolutely HATE them and I say they are the worst cellular provider. Go with virgin Canada because if you dont buy the phone from them they give you 10% off their plans and they have the best Data plans.
