What applications did you try?
When you start the application does the right side LED blink orange?
Nav4all, tomtom, google, and yes it blinks orange.
Same problem here...I did run quickgps and downloaded the recent update...still nothing

Go to this page and see the link for external mirror 1. use it to download GPS TEST:
http://handheld.softpedia.com/progDownload/GPS-Test-Download-34335.html
or get it here:
http://classic.pocketgear.com/softw...ssociateid=1224
When you have installed it, run it and it will auto scan the ports to find the GPS receiver. Make note of the port number - that's the one you'll need for your other applications (like tomtom etc). Make sure you have a clear view of the sky when running it and give it PLENTY time to achieve a first time fix.
By the way if you have ever used the "External GPS" on the Kaiser then you may have altered some settings that can stop GPS working. Unfortunately only a hard reset will cure this. BUT, try the above first. If GPS test can get satellites then so will other applications.
This little application GPS Test is also useful to run before things like Google Maps that some folks have problems with.

Ok. If GPS test works and finds sats then, you have an incorrect port set on the other applications. From GPS Test see what port it has found the GPS on. Then in tomtom say, use "other nmea device" or "internal GPS" whichever option it has in the "configure" menu and set the port to the one noted from GPS test.
Fact is that if GPS test finds sats then everything is working and its just getting the link between the GPS and the nav software that needs fixing.
Mike
I just had to leave my house and try it on the road. Now it works everywhere. YEAH!!!!!!!!!
THANKS GUYS (mikechannon) !!!!!!!!!!
this works, but why do we need to run gps test before any gsp app? is there not a reg key that will be able to fix it?

I used to have the same exact problem...Google Maps just gives up if it doesn't find a fix right away. TomTom does finally get a lock without GPS Test, but it takes less time if you have GPS Test running beforehand.
I had the same problem .. GPS would not work with Google, MSN live. Downloaded GPS test and still nothing. I finally did a "hard" reset (painful, but I did have everything backed up on my PC with Active Sync).
After the hard reset GPS worked GREAT! I must have messed up a setting trying to get it to work. GPS test now reports that the GPS is active on COM4, 9600 baud.

You don't have to run it before every GPS application. Some folks find Google Maps benefits from doing this but I only suggested running the GPS test app to establish which port was being used. Even with Google maps you may find on subsequent occasions you do not need to run an app like GPS Test first.

accuracy
does anyone else have the problem where tom tom doesn't show the correct position it always thinks i am about 20 - 50 meters to the left of my real position.
I seem to be on fields an awful lot or 2 - 3 street over in city centres.

I don't have that problem - even when I have few fixed satellites. However I did read a report recently where someone routinely had the arrow showing 200mtrs away from his position. Sorry to say it was only after a Hard Reset that the problem vanished.
As a side issue. I have noticed with tomtom and any other GPS software -
If you start the GPS software in an area with no or poor GPS signal, then it will take FAR longer to get a fix EVEN when you go into a clear sky area.. If however when you start the GPS software in a good open sky area then it will fix much more quickly.
The moral of this story - don't start the GPS when you are inside a thick walled building - wait until you get outside first. I'mguessing that starting in an area with a very weak signal sends it searching in all the wrong areas for satellites and it will then take a long time to find them even when you get outside. (This is true, I have noticed with all GPS systems I've used not just the Kaiser.
Mike
FYI, I have found that Map4PDA breaks the GPS. I believe it changes the baud rate to 57600, which is incorrect (it should be 9600). The only way to fix it I have found is to Hard reset and not install Map4PDA.
TomTom, Micrsoft Live Search (with Speach), & Google Maps work great. Features set in that order.
PS that GPS test tool works GREAT. Thanks for the heads up.
Hi guys!
Im freaking out! I have a Dutch MDA Vario3 and I just cant seem to get the GPS to work. Tomtom can find the intern gps but no signal! I waited for about an hour today and yesterday it didnt work also..somebody can help me out? I use tomtom 6.032

I did quickgps for about ten times!
gps test?
thx for your reply
Were you indoors? Did you move to a different location? You might want to test it with an external gps receiver or try a standalone gps unit (if you can borrow one). Try and find something that is more sensitive than the Kaiser, and, in the same location, see if you can get a signal.
My point is, you might just be in a bad spot. This happens to me at work all the time, it never picks up a signal, even after an hour of searching.
you must set the right com ports up
find out which port gps is on ie. usually com7
go into config (tomtom) annd then guide the tomtom to com7
it will work took me a couple of days to work it out then seemed so obvious
The above advice is all pretty good. If this is the first time you have used tomtom then it can take a good while.
I am assuming tomtom shows the message "no valid GPS signal" after showing briefly the message "No GPS device". If so this is good. It means your com ports are set correctly.
There are two things to be sure of though:
1.
You have aclear view of the sky - especially on the first occassion you get a fix.
2.
Make sure you have a suitable map in the correct location. Obviously getting a fix when there is no map or the map is in the wrong directory will not succeed.
Did quick GPS work and give you a "valid until" date?
GPS test is a nice simple app that will show you the port number you are on so you can make sure tomtom is using the same one. BUT if tomtom only fails at the no valid signal stage then I think your ports are fine.
Finally, some fatal problems can occur if you have changed entries in the "external GPS" settings. This might (according to some folk) require a hard reset to correct. But try the above first.

Check this thread first..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330412
Try GPSViewer and select the port settings manually and choose "Open GPS".
You should see some som action through GPS strings in the Setup page.
Then try with TomTom or Google Maps.
I never had issues with TomTom, but google map was having hard time initializing. But after using GPSViewer, it works pretty neat and quick!

While it is true that you can screw yourself if you mess with the external GPS settings, you might not have to hard reset. Check the Kaiser Wiki; all the way at the bottom, you'll find links to the registry settings for the internal GPS. If you follow those steps, and set your TomTom to Other NMEA Receiver, you'll be fine no matter what you did with the external settings.

It would help us to know the following:
1.
When tomtom is on does the amber led for GPS flash?
2
Does tomtom show "no valid GPS signal"?
3
Have you got a local map installed?
4
Did quick GPS download current data?
Mike
1.

Jep
2
Does tomtom show "no valid GPS signal"?

3
Have you got a local map installed?
uuh..west europe map..
4

it says after download "valid for six days and twentythree hours"
So I gues, yes
*thx Mike for helping me so far

Hi!
I've got a different problem with tomtom 7... When I chose to navigate to any area it always wanna navigate to luxemburg or somwhere... (Even though I try to navigate within norway).
I tried to reinstall the maps, but the same thing happens. Only way to get where I want is to indicate it on the map (which is kinda useless if I want to go somwhere I haven't been) or to go back to my position...
Any ideas?

Sounds like your GPS is not active.
Well, nope... That's not the problem.. The problem is that when I set the town in norway it gets up the streets in some other country... No problem finding myself or to find POI in the vicinity...

Yes, but it locates the end of the trip in a totally different country then I want to.. It also shows the wrong POI's if I wanna try to locate them in a specific city... Even though it says "POIs in the vicinity of XXXX", they come up totally wrong...
Think I'll try to hard reset my phone n' try to install everything again as soon as I've got my computer back...
Can anyone please post a link to download tomtom7 version 7.450 and the maps. Thanks.
DON'T ask for maps in this forum it's illegal and might get you banned.

No Satellites, but GPS nav. works :/
Hello I have problem with TomTom 7.450 on my HTC Diamond. After a week of use TomTom shows me no satellites, but navigation works well - gps is active and precise, but TomTom shows 0 satellites and on the screen with signal for each satellite are no satellites. I did nothing, after a week this problem started. Other apps. shows satellites normally. Anyone knows how to fix it? THX.
Edit: I just switched on/off the phone and now it shows satellites, strange, tried to switch on/off before and it didnt help
Hello,
I succeeded on installing TomTom 7, but after a few tries, I found that the navigation is not very fluid (about 1 image per second), even if I deactivate all POI for display (only POI alerts are configured).
I was using TomTom 6 under my ETEN M600 with the same configuration, navigation was very fluid.
Do you have an idea of what I can do to increase fluidity of navigation ?
Hakkai94
The legality of downloading TT7 is a grey area. This is because TomTom are behaving rather strangly. They have produced a TT7 for PDA but are not currently selling it. It seems only to be suppled with the Diamond from O2 Germany. Google will tell you where you can get it from.
As for the maps. The ONLY place you should be downloading them from is the TomTom web site.
Same problem!
I have a problem with my HTC touch hd. No satellites but the navigation works well. Have anyone found the solution of the problem? Two__dogs

Recently I updated to the SwiftBL 7.0 Full 16PP. As I start TomTom 7.450 I says it has a gps device and then it says it has lost is gps signal.
After 15 seconds it updates it's gps location and tells me again it has lost it's gps location.
Then I close TomTom and start QuickGPS and update it (it is still valid for 6 days and more). After this update there is no problem with Tomtom anymore.
This updating I have to do every time I want to use Tomtom.
I'm just sitting in the car and not in the bathroom, so the gps is not the problem. I'm having this problem for a week now.
Does somebody else have this problem too? Is there a solution?

Try holding it up next to the window or use an in-car cradle. This has happened to me when I hold it next to my lap in the car I cant even get a fix. When I hold it next to the window I get a highly accurate fix.
I have a cradle stuck on the window. Before (for 3 months) I did not have a problem.
Or my hardware is braking down or there might be a issue with the ROM. Also f*ckup on my part is possible ofcourse.
But I wanted to know if I was the only one that had this problem. Until now I think I am.
i have gps problem too but i think using htc tools solve it for me so far...use the clear memory option together with nav init and wait for mode 2d fix.Try tis to see if its work?

I have the same problem.
My solution : soft-reset my device.
I'll try another solution : disable the A-GPS.
If anybody has another solution...
(I don't want to change my radio because of the warranty)
A-GPS
I had that same problem with iGO. Disabling A-GPS did the trick.
Likewise with Tomtom. A-GPS is the guilty party.
Having the same problem in Igo 8. The problem is that the program looses the GPS in 5-15 seconds all the time. Igo sais that it is loosing not the signal but it losses the GPS module. The only cure i found is a hard reset or going into flight mode. In flight mode the GPS works perfectly. Tested on 2 Diamonds. Any suggestions except flashing the radio??

Yes! Exactly! I have seen same problem as topic starter. Also If I check "GPS status" by TomTom menu, it always lost and found GPS device every 5-10 sec. Only one think helps - start Google maps app, enable GPS, then Google map quickly found satellite I start TomTom and TomTom work fine till closing.
After disabling A-Gps, now TomTom work perfectly.

just to give you some tips:
port that should work is port 4 and the baud rate : 9600.
it will take like easy 7 minutes before it finds some satellites..
this is the a problem or an issue that is difficult to solve, but if you wana read more on this and how to enhance your GPS with different tools like , quick GPS, HTC GPS Tool ..etc. ..
