screen problem, most of the time do not work - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi, i think i have problem with my screen, it's not work anymore, so I decided to reflash device with official Rom. But it didn't work.
Moreover before windows system start for the first time ir requires to tap on screen to boot. So now I cannot use my TytnII at all.
Is it any options to boot it without tapping on screen?
Or just to flash with other ROM, but HARdspl is not installed so a bit afraid to brick my phone. please help

install hardspl (same procedure as flashing) and then install rom of your choise if it dosn't work have you done any of the following
dropped it in water
gone in the washing machine
etc.... stuff like that

why don't you get a new digitizer??? it's $10 for kaiser?? i've been changing them like underwear...every half a year.
what is it, what's asking you to click on screen? if it's just a welcome screen, put welcome.not file in root.

what do you only change your underwear 2 a year

hehe, i live in Lithuania, so price with shipping will be around 25$. I think this isn't very cheap. Finally got screen working, but after 30min of using again no respond to tapping, then again working fine, and after that again no. it's annoying. I think it's problem with digitizer? I haven't it dropped to water, it almost brand new

thats good you got it working
hope the problem doesn't happen again

if we assume the problem is harware, it would most likely by at one of two spots.
place, where the ribbon cable is soldered to lcd
or place where two piecies of digitiizer are connnected to each other.
might help if you check on the ribbon and glue a plastic tape all around the edge of digitizer, making it press little bit more on it
well, if that's hw probllem. but first you shoud try different rom. you can reflash without digitizer working. and check for pocket controller or similar if you want you can control pda from pc with it. there are two free and Pocket contr is trial.

if you just want to bypass the "tap here to use your device" message on the first boot up, search for "welcome.not".
create a blank file named "welcome.not" and place it in the root of your sd card and then power on the device for first boot up.
make sure it is a blank file. make sure it is named EXACTLY "welcome.not". if you are doing this with your windows pc, make sure you have turned off "hide file extensions of known file types". otherwise, the file might actually be named "welcome.not.txt" but might show as "welcome.not" on your pc.
search about it for more information.

hi, have tried differnt rom, but problem still persist. screen is not working, but sometimes it starts working very well. but most of the time it not respond. when backlight goes out and touch screen it starts to light but can't touch any options on. So what can be the problem, only digitezer or whole screen?

it was more probable it would be hw. but we need to eliminate all possibilities and reflash was easiest.
Still there is more things which could be the problem.
And there is no way to tell for sure what is it.
Did you say the pda is new? or digitizer?
And then you said when backlight goes off, digitizer will stop working, but still reacting on touch (to light the backlight) Is this right?
When will it stop / start working? Does it change if you press on body - case?
Does it change if you slide keyboard out or in?
There would be a short test each time pda/screen is powered, if digitizer fails in this test, it would be ignored till next test pass. Could this be your case?
digitizer could be broken on corner, or has bad contact inside
- You can test it, if you'll solder test wires on it and measure resistance, which should be around 500 ohms without touch and going down on each touch, can't go higher! test for both H & V
but the same reaction could be if ribbon cable connecting two parts of kaiser is broken (or connector on mobo side)
but if it's new it shouldn't.
and at last there could be problem on mobo. inside the controller chip or on it's connection, soldering. But not very probable.
It definitely looks like bad connection somewhere. You need to find out where, so you'll not buy digitizer if it's good or ribbon cable.
Put plastic tape around digitizer inside, as I wrote before, inspect ribbon cable and digitizer and it's connections. Try to locate event when it goes wrong.
If you'll not open it and check on these things, then maybe get a new part which will show bad, then I don't see how more we could help you.
You can use it without touch screen somehow or get a new phone.
Digitizer is US$8 with shipping to Lithuania. That's really cheap, even for us from central european countries.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HTC-P4450-Ka...m&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item5192adf317#shId
and ribbon cable have fair price too,
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Flex-Cable-R...ewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cadad06a3

papo very informative
All i want to add is that it's easier to replace the whole screen with a digitizer already on as the digitizer is very hard to remove since glued to the glass more than likely will get wrecked and not able to replace new, whereas full kit wont cost a lot more and will be less stress just 4 screws on the back plate of Tilt "where sim door is".

Well, it is not new, i've bought it from one girl, but it's like brand new, no scratching at all, very good condition.
also, yesterday i checked all the connection inside it, but the problem persisted.
I think I have understood what kind off problem it is...when remove sim card it stars to work perfectly. When insert sim, it work some time very well. Then again screen start not to respond, any ideas?

mm, I know some pretty good spells, but you need a magic wand to make them work. If you don't have any you need to:
tape the screen as I wrote before (half millimeter tape),
if no help, hardwire analog multimeter on digitizer and test it properly (while pda off and open) as I wrote before
tape bended paper across connector on mobo.
OR just get a new digitizer straight away. it's $8 and pretty good chance that it's the issue. it's maybe 50% chance but what I mean is:
You have $200 phone (now on market) let's assign it 200 points
It's working on 20% with digitizer broken, now you have 40 points
digitizer 8 points to add. With 50% chance to fix = 16 points to add
result: by adding 16 points you gain 160 (200 - 40) that's 10x gain = good risk

WTF with my screen? post photos. on the first my screen, on the second lcd screens which are beiing sold on ebay.
I decided to buy new digitizer, but when looked at my screen, it realized have completely different layout where digitizer is connecting to screen. Am i right? Is the digitizers which are sold on ebay will suit my screen?

that's fine. they all work. They are not oem but works well. Maybe not so scratch resistive.
You may get the digitizer solo, but they will not include a special double side tape which goes around and is holding it together. You can make that tape, but it's pain as stylez said. A lot of cleaning the used old one, then cutting small strips of ds-tape. and you need to put a paper or something in between two layers of tape as you need a little space in between. And then soldering that ribbon. Better just get whole assembly.
==
I see you tried that tape, before you buy it, try the last thing. The place where digitizer is soldered to lcd modul.
On that piece you sent photo of, you need to open back cover.
check the picture:
1. peel off antistatic tape from connector, from up -> down
2. take cover off
3. there will be attachment of digitizer behind the cover, like on your second picture.
Check for good connection
AND
check if soldered pins could not be touching the back cover you took off
( i had this problem once)
put electric tape accross it a give it a try - that will isolate it from back cover & make a little pressure if bad connection

guys I have problem with my phone's screen, the upper part of the screen during portrait mode is no longer responding to the right spot. but the rest its ok...anyhelp?do I have to change my LCD? I even had it hard reset which gives me a bigger problem, a Align Screen menu pops out and I could not align it....anyhelp????
looks like you have defective digitizer screen, try to take apart and reseat the LCD connector. maybe it'll help.
last resort, change the digitizer screen.
yes, I think that's the same problem that i've been facing since last year :-|
any I dea how could that be happens ?
or is there any way to do it without bricking the device ?
welll....
I am looking at the possibility that it needs to be stripped down and cleaned! dirt could be causing the issue around the edges by applying pressure to the digitizer!!
does anyone know of any toolkits you can get to take this thing apart I am not too confident with my kitchen knife and chisel....
Probably on this forum somewhere...
(edit : I just did a bit of pushing down and hooking a piece of card around the edges of the screen and it seems to be working fine however this can be temporary...)
There are guides in this forum to taking an Alpine to pieces completely: I had to change my screen recently and it can easily be done before the backup battery has run out of juice.
If the digitiser part is behaving erratically you cna just purchase a new digitiser for about £4.95 off ebay, rather than fork out around 30-40 for a new screen.
TOols you'll need are small screwdrivers and a small set of torx screwdrivers.. again a search will tell you what size (I have a pack of t5 6 and 7 and cant remember which it is - it's the same pack you buy for disassembling mobiles)

HTC Diamond Strange Screen Problem (URGENT)

I had my Diamond for about 8 months now. All of a sudden no matter where I click on the screen it always clicks on the top left corner (Start button). I hard reset the phone, changed SPL but nothing worked.
My Specs:
Duttys 5.2.20764.1.4.3
Diamond-hspl-1.24
When I try to align the screen it keeps on looping not letting me get out of the screen alignment. I have to soft reset the phone.
Is my phone dead? Do I have to send it to HTC for repair?
sounds like a broken screen digitizer (the plastic which recognizes touch).
If its under warranty then i suggest you flash everything back to factory, ie. stock spl, stock ROM. Then RMA it back for warranty.
If it isn't under warranty and you wanna get it repaired. Then just order a new digitizer from Ebay and install it yaself. That will save you an arm and a leg, since HTC will probably charge you like 4x the price to get it fixed.
How come it responds to the screen alignment than? When I press the cross hair it responds to it and moves to a different position.
Right now I am trying to put the stock SPL on the phone but I can't get past the screen alignment. The is synced and everything. Any ideas?
You MUST change the ROM to stock first then the SPL
I did put the stock ROM back on the Diamond. But I can't get passed the align screen. I tried deleting the "welcome" file form \Windows\StartUp but the file is protected and can not be deleted. Is there any other solution of by passing the welcome screen?
I had this problem too, I got my Diamond from Rogers and went home. After a few minutes this started to happen, and I instantly went back and got a replacement.
I got same prob. But sometime it work fine, after i do softreset i cant skip screen align. Can hard reset fix this prob? im from malaysia, how much it'll cost to replace the digitizer? thanks
i have this problem too
hello all!
I had the same problem as you! after some time searching... found a program called "Remote Screen Alignment" ... and your problem is solved!
Just google it!

For the new diditizer is this easy to repair by myself??
I have a broken touch screen too (LCD is working perfectly, touch is non responsive, all over the screen)
I was just reading in another thread that changing the digitizer on its own is a bit of a nightmare as its glued to the LCD screen? Is this true, is this the case, if so, would it be possible to buy a LCD + Digitizer in one? I searched eBay but could not find anything?
Any help is much appreciated as the cost of a new phone is not an option!
Thanks,
DG.

Hi
My digitizer is also broken, I ordered new one from ebay (cost about 10 €) and as you wrote replacament is nightmare.
I'm trying to find a manual or instruction video but I cannot find anything.
If somebody knows how to replace digitizer please let me know or share a link for it.
Currently my best solution is to order new digitizer with display (cost about 20€) It is possible to order for exaplme here:

hello, i have the same problem with my diamond here, pres the screen and it activates the left upper corner, after a while stoped doing that but not my right lower part of the screeen doesnt respond. i mean i press the "j" and it writes "k".. u know what i mean., i cac calibrate the screen but after 1 min the problem is back. i wanna buy that digitizer and change it but b4 this i need a confirmation, did anyone do it and after that their diamond worked like b4? waiting for reply thx
This post is giving me a nightmare. I am facing similar problem only its not permanent. What I mean is it woks fine sometimes but wont respond sometimes. Sometimes it responds in the corners if I press hard. I think my phone is just passed its warranty also its 2nd hand though I have the bill. Service centers are really bad so I am scared.
Do you'll think my digitizer is gone bad or is it a software glitch?
Hi guys
I have a similar problem with my HTC Touch Diamond,
The screen just gone crazy constantly pressing on the top-right corner, this happened like 1 week ago. After searching the internet and this forum I found out that my only quick solution is to hard press the four corners to get working properly again but the problem will come back again after a while.
I bought this phone from ebay in 2008, had no problems with it untill I found out this ugly strange colored square in the middle that is noticable after switching phone's backlight off, I guess that was due to me holding the phone in my jean's back pocket (as I used to previous phones non touch ), I had this phone working perfectly until what happened last week!
I decided to find if this is a software related issue, so I upgraded to official HTC ROm 2.03.405.3 WWE, but the problem persists
I also bought a digitizer from ebay in case I want to replace it (but never done this before)
Can anyone please confirm if I am still under warranty, how to check this and if yes is that going to cost me anything to get it returned to HTC for repair (other than postage costs of course)
If not under warranty anymore, do you advise me to get a LCD+Digiztizer combined instead ?
Many thanks !!!
Damian
I have this problem (not my video):
youtube > watch?v=5-IUzerAT0s (sorry, I can't post links)
Problem:
Sometimes, and really just sometimes, no matter where I touch the screen it only signals a left touch. So wherever I touch, 1, 2 or 3 - only 1 will enter.
I am not sure if this is related, but it may give some clues:
A few days ago I disassembled my Diamond. I did not take out the LCD coz it's sort of glued in and probably hard to take out and may break.
However, I got down to the digitizer soldering. I did not de-solder the flat-cable, but I pressed my solder iron on each of the 4 solder joints. I pressed the solder tip right on the film. Don't worry, it's most likely polyimide and it's heat resistant.
After that the Diamond worked well, well, for a few days. Then same happened again. When I have the problem and I press strongly right of the HTC logo (LCD bottom right) the problem disappears. That makes me thinking the problem is maybe mechanical.
It maybe a solder crack. I presume the Diamond is RoHS, and my solder iron was not RoHS. That matters, coz RoHS solder needs more heat the lead solder. Means, my solder iron did not really melt the solder under the film.
I will give that another try with an RoHS solder iron in the next few days.

I have the same 'tendency to go left' problem. From my experience, I found that the problem could be caused by heat. Here are some examples when it goes wrong: When I use Tomtom navigator while charging the battery, the phone really heats up and starts to go 'left'. When I try to text message under the sun after taking it out from my pocket. When I have high usage such as wifi + opera. Really hop somebody can come up a solution for the problem...
The Reason ---
Its a heating issue seen in 20% of all shipped diamonds. It heats and expands the digitizer causing loss of touch.
Solution ---
I'm working on it!
P.S - The heat i'm talking about is not the heat that's generated wile using the phone , its due to outside exposure.
Crazy thought - Try it at your own risk
Exposing the mobile to moderate temp (cold , say 12-14 degrees) might help. Not sure.. i said MIGHT.
Don't try this if its under warranty. And don't blame me if you did something wrong and all you circuits get messed up!
Anyways will post if i hit something on the way!
No, new solution??
Maybe change the digitalizer solves the problem?? Because two months ago the problem only stay few minutes but now i can't make the alignment process.
Thanks!

**~htc touch screen not working!!!!~**

hi,
my touch diamond 2's touch screen stop working randomly ( i think that i applied too much pressure on 1 spot for too long). I can see the touch screen dots on the area. I am just wondering if I were to repair this, would i be replacing the DIGITIZER or the TOUCH SCREEN.
Thank you soo much
warranty might cover that. It might not be your fault
I have decided to fix the part myself since I do not wish to ship the part to their location in the US. Any idea if its the digitizer or the LCD screen that i should be replacing?

Search the Wiki, there are dismantle instructions.
I had the same on my display, and was able to move the dark spot to the edges where it disappeared.
I moved it with scratching it with my nail very gently applying some pressure.
In Europe HTC offers a pickup and return warranty, is that different in the US? If it is the same I would send it in to HTC for replacement, since it might happen again pretty soon....
I already have 3 screens replaced :-(
jason, did u manage to fix this? i have the exact same problem and pushing the "bubbles" towards the edge of the screen didn't help. my screen is still unresponsive..

Try applying duct tape to it repeatedly until you get it back.
Yes, both
I recently replaced the Touch Screen on my Diamond 2. Same problem; spots that "stick" in the middle. I used to solve this by running both my thumbs down the sides of the screen to "puff up" the low areas in the middle.
The part you want is actually called a "Digitizer Touch Screen" on eBay, cheap too. Prepare to spend about 2 hours fiddling with very tiny screws, connections and glue to tackle the job.
The hardest part for me was actually getting the Touch Screen to work; it seemed to be calibrated in mirror-image AND turned 90 degrees sideways, which made getting to the calibration functionality an extremely frustrating experience. I spend another 3 hours on that, but now I've got a perfect phone again, since I ordered a new case as well. No use taking the entire phone apart and then rebuilding with a molested outer shell...
maybe you should reset it
Working Solution Till Now
Hello Friends,
I have TD2 mobile and today I had same issue. I was thinking it was because of the weather or some.
I remember it did happend several time before, but when I restart the device several time it does work. So I was ignoring.... But today it did not work.. looks like going toward end... So I did soft and hard reset without and that did not helped me.
So I switched off the mobile, "heated" the touch screen gently with my hand for 1 min and started the mobile again and it worked for me .
Not sure if this is a solution, but will work.
May be I will contact Service Center here in Hyderbad and see what is wrong here?
Hope this will help you all...
Thanks.
Solution
Okay, I've just had this problem with an HTC Touch, and I think this works with any HTC that has a "digitizer" rather than an all-in-one touchscreen (I think newer phones have digitisers).
I'm not sure if this will always work, but I've just done it - sometimes the inactive touch screen is "broken" because the layers are stuck together (so the phone can't tell where the touch is, hence unresponsive). With mine, I looked at the screen side on and could see a kind of "oily" patch in the light.
The solution is to get masking/gaffa tape - the very sticky brown one. Stick it down on the screen/digitizer and then keep pulling it off - this pulls the layers from each other. I kept repeating this lots before it worked - and in the end I pulled the top layer completely off (I think you should pull from the top of the phone, as the layers need to be attached at the bottom of the screen/digitizer). Once it pulled away, I gently lay it back down (after panicking!!) and hey presto it started working again.
Good luck!
Digitizer replaced but still not working
The touch screen on my Touch Diamond2 stopped responding to my touch (or the stylus) and I tried everything including removing and replacing the digitizer bus just in case the connection was the issue. But all to no avail. Finally I decided to replace the digitizer (touch screen)
The problem for me is that it made no difference. The new digitizer doesn't respond to my touch either. The problem is apparently somewhere else.
If anyone has encountered this problem and has a solution I would be grateful to know what it is.
Thanks in advance
Replace the Touch Diamond2 Digitizer touch screen.
I recently replaced the digitizer (touch screen) on my HTC Touch Diamond2. Since I found on the net, no instructions for replacing the actual digitizer, I thought I might include some here.
It was relatively easy to fit. The only difficulty I encountered was a lack of information about how to actually remove the old one. The various instruction sets found on the web all stop once the screen is removed. But the digitizer is not covered by these instructions. The digitizer is bonded to a thin glass immediately under your screen protector (if you have one fitted) and after the screen is removed following instructions you will find on the net, the digitizer and the thin glass sheet that it is bonded to must be prized off from the front of the housing. The digitizer separates from the glass easily, but the glass is securely bonded to the housing with a silicon glue. It must be prized off by gently lifting a corner and applying a little upward pressure allowing the glue to slowly and gently let go. Don't be surprised if the glass breaks during the process. Once off it is a simple matter to press the new one in place. Just remember to start by slipping the connector bus (cable) through the narrow slot between the metal outer housing and the inner components. I used a set of tweezers to poke it through. DO IT FIRST before pressing the digitizer into place.
Okay, as I said the process was easy and took about 15 minutes all up.

Thanks for the heads up on the glass part mate. Just replaced my TD2 digitizer too. Kinda freaked out at first when the glass split.. haha
Anyway, just wanna 1 more info. When removing the old digitizer, it'll be easier if the front housing was heated first (with a hairdryer on full or a heatgun) to soften the glue. It'll be easier to remove afterwards.
Word of warning though. Only head the housing when REMOVING the old digitizer, DO NOT use this method when applying the new one. The digitizer dies because of heat. Heat is what causes the newton rings issue.

I have the same problema with my Diamond2. I have also changed the digitalizer with no success It is still not responding to any kind of touch.
Shoofty, did you manage to fix yours?

Fixing TD2 touch screen
TD2 touch screen is a common problem I guess.
Symptoms are :
1- Touch screen does not respond sometimes
2- You can see a grease like layer under the touch screen
3- Sometimes if you look closer to the screen at some part you can see a a liquidized small area.
Solutions:
1- If you see the liquidized dot on the screen turn off the display and try to rub it with your finger until it disappears. turn it on again and try if it works. I guess heating with the finger as other peeople here suggest does the same thing. However this is a temporary solution. Your touchscreen will die at some date. I used my TD2 for 8-9 months using this method. But at the end touchscreen died.
2- Replace the digitzer or complete frontcover. Actually this might be easier than you think. I replaced mine in half an hour. I bought a front cover which includes the digitzer (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-HTC...zer_Ersatzteile_Werkzeuge&hash=item4cfe6f78dc) and openning tools from ebay. Dimanıond 2 disassemble and assemble videos on youtube were very helpful. I strongly suggest to buy the complete frontcover (inc digitzer). It makes replace process much easier and gives the device a brand new look. My old front cover was worn from the corners (which is also very commpn problem of TD2). Now it looks brand new. No strach on the display and body.
Thnks Ozkarah.
I happened to realize that, surprisingly, the touch screen of my HD2 started working if I heated it up with a hairdryer. So, I think something else is wrong beyond the touch screen, probably the connector to the main board of the mobile. It might expand once it is hot and that is why it starts working. In any case, I think that is beyond repair
HTC screen calibration

Hi,
I have same problem when I changed new screen (screen is calibrated in mirror-image AND turned 90 degrees sideways).
Could tell step by step how you get your screen calibrated?
Thanks

[Q] Touch screen not working

My Droid's touch screen isn't working in the center vertically all the way down. I can still use the 'edges' of the screen. I need to use the middle of the screen for a few things (not transfering stuff over). Is there any way I can 'project' my Droids screen to my computer and click/touch in it to use it?
Thanks in advance for all help. It's appreciated
~mfungah
Edit: This is the original Motorola Droid.
I have the same problem on the right side of my milestone :S
I had the same problem, but from the back arrow upwards, specially when the phone got hot. As my phone was still on the warranty period, I flashed it back to stock and updated it to the official 2.2., took it to an Orange shop and got it back after almost a month: they basically changed the whole top part of the phone (I got a brand new screen )
Repair problem
I had a same failure. The touch panel was bad. I ordered one from eBay. It also came as well put it. It works well. Only so much wrong with me that for some reason the phone stacked in landscape mode, I can't change to portrait mode. What is wrong? I put together something wrong? I do not think so. Everything else goes. (or so it seems)
This has to do with the digitizer (the glass you touch over the top of the LCD you see) being defective or unsealed. This is due to environmental moisture finding its way into the phone and f**king with the electrictal signals sent by touching the screen. There is a 'phantom touch' issue that seems to happen before or during the vertical unresponsiveness, and that can usually be temporarily remedied by firmly pushing your screen downwards (your phone may restart) and taking a blowdryer to your phone until it's just hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold (and no longer take it into the bathroom while you shower). One way or another, you're going to have to replace your digitizer eventually.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I had the same problem months ago but it's now fixed.
STEPS:
1. Digitizer I bought from this guy:
http://cgi.ebay.ph/New-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Motorola-Milestone-A853-/270780531 891?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3f0bc704b3#ht_2811wt_850
2. Dissasembly Videos (I advice you to watch them repeatedly before dissasembly):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d7ETMfgq2s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE81IaQHEHc
3. Phillips screw driver( for dealing with hard screws around the screen): Because I don't want you to use the low quality screw driver supplied with the digitizer.
4. Double sided tape: I got mine from a hardware shop for only P19. Buy a the more expensive tape(P100+) but look for a very thin one! You will use the cheap weak tape to stick some internal parts and use the Hard tape to stick the external casing. EDIT: I just used the cheap one for everything and it's strong enough.
5. PATIENCE: Don't be in a hurry. I even paused from time to time to get a better idea about what to do next. Get the feel of being a perfectionist (that same additude when I applied a screen protector )
That's the guide from me who haven't dissasembled a phone in my entire life but my milestone. So if something bad and technical that happens along the way then my knowledge can't help.. sorry.
Good luck bro!!

[Q] Repairing/assembling G1 -> broken volume rocker and touch panel

Well, I fixed my old broken G1 with new screen, touchscreen panel, case and keyboard.
Now I have 2 issue:
1) Sometimes my touchscreen goes grazy!! If I use the touch test application I see that sometimes when I touch the screen in an area there is another virtual touch in another zone of the screen. I read that it can depend from the current source when I charge the phone.. but I'm going crazy!! I opened my phone 10 times (I thought there was a problem in the cable that link TouchPanel to LCDPanel, because when I lock the cable with the clip it tends anyway to go out from the connector, now I put some scotch tape to fix but the problem is here.. so I think is another problem).
2) My volume rocker doesn't work!!
I bought 2 new keyboard to fix this problem, but no one of that fixed the problem. I thought the first new keyboard had volume keys broken, so I bought another one, but the problem persists!!
Now the Touch problem rarely happens, but the volume rocker is completely unusable..
Someone have experience about G1 assembling/repairing ?
Thanks and sorry for bad english
if you have put in multiple keypads have the same issue i would assume that it is the connection going to the motherboard. just a guess there but its either that or you have had a bunch of faulty keyboards.
only other thing would be a software problem
does the keypad work in recovery (let you go up down throughout the list) ?
as for the touch screen, probably need a new digitizer or flex cable, both are cheap and it sounds like you have the knowhow to replace them.
Ok, but digitizer is new!! screen also is new, and I have bought a total of 4 flex cable because I see that they are fragile (I broke the first I bought).
I tried to change flex cable but the problem remain the same.
The only thing that can be damaged is the LCD cable that links to the flex cable: it has a small cut where the cable have a curve, but the cut don't reaches the contacts (the cable is transparent). I also use some glue and scotch tape to mantein lock the cable.
The digitizer cable is connected to the LCD cable, and then they go to the flex cable that connect them to the motherboard.
The strange thing is that seems a software issue, because if I turn off and than turn on the screen, the problem is fixed for some seconds, minutes and sometimes hours...
Another strange thing is the possibility to control the screen with some metal objects from the moment that the virtual touch problem appear (I can control the screen also without touch it, with hand and piece of metal)
video:
have you tried a factory reset if you think it may be a software issue? if that dosent work you can try install a whole new rom.
really it sounds like it isnt the hardware since you appear to know what youre doing. i have a had a few phones that had screen (digitizer) issues and a new rom flashed cured it just fine
since you dont mind putting a few dollars into it, and your familiar with the inside, you can always try to pick up a cheap motherboard or spare phone from ebay or what have you, then swap the motherboard and you could then hopefully find out if it is the hardware or software

Huh sounds like you got a cheap digitizer than. Most good digitizers use heat to touch. If it's literally touch, then sounds like its a fake/meh digitizer. i hate the digitizers that aren't heat, but press. I see them all the time in those first samsuck touchscreen phones. And they usually die in a bit. I had a Samsung behold with a screwed up digitizer

Yes I flashed 3 or 4 roms after a wipe (I tried also super-wipe.zip), but the problem is here..
The digitizer works well some times, but sometimes get crazy (you can see in the video).
I don't that my new digitizer is fake, but I really don't know!
BTW I'm trying to repair my phone for fun (now I have desire z) and because I am fascinated by my old G1.
PS:
I see another strange issue--
If I touch the screen when the phone is on a table the screen digitizer is not very sensitive and can't take input from fingertips.
If I touch the screen when the phone is in my other hand, the screen digitizer is a lot more sensitive and it take input from fingertips.
My impression is that there is an electric field or something similar that disturbs the digitizer, and when I take the phone in my hand I discharge that field to ground. Also when I turn off the screen, seems that the electric field discharge so when I turn on the screen is ok, but after some seconds the field returns to disturbs the screen.
I really don't know, but is the impression that I have.. something that is not shielded.
Now I'll try to use my phone in airplain mode.
Thanks guys, I'm happy to see that this forum is still very active
