Backup apk files - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just want to start I don't want to steal from the market.
But how do I download an apk like adobe reader from the market?
I do not see it stored anywhere on my N1.

it gets installed to /data/app/ you can use adb (and many other tools, for ex android commander, astro's backup tool, titanium backup, etc) to pull it from there.

App to backup apps

Hello
Just like in the topic. How and what to use to backup apps ??
Thanks
i beleive that the ASTRO file manager (free) gives you the option for apps backup to your sd!
Just used ASTRO. Noticed 'Power Manager' was designated 'private' so I could not back that up
If its Copyrighted/copy protected it won't be backed up
You could also use root explorer I think - it worked on my magic, I copied the folder "apps" from /data/apps to SD and I think I also managed to copy
one from /system/apps which had all the preinstalled apps in it.

Ok will try root explorer. Many thx

Backup market db without root?

I'm on the stock N1 and want to unlock the bootloader, which will force a wipe.
Whilst I can backup the installed apps to .apks on the sdcard with several apps as far as I know when they are restored they will not be 'linked' to the market, so I won't get update notifications for them.
'backup for root users' and 'titanium backup' can back up the market db, but you need to be root in the first place, which N1 users cannot be.
Is there a way to backup the market db without root?
Or maybe 'fix' the market data during/after the reinstall of the .apks?
Back them up to the sd. When you root reinstall and use atrackdog to check for any updates. If you do update the app in the market then it will show from that point on through the markets update notification.
Or... You can download Titanium Backup from market
EDIT... Sorry, it says you need root for it... I coulda sworn it didnt say that before...
both mybackup pro and app manager can backup aps to sd card without root.. then you can use thm to restore after rooting.

He is 100% correct about this but if you look for app manager it is now call app monster. The pro or free versions will work.
@lgkahn and @jerrycycle
Thanks guys, but I'm sure I used MyBackup to do this ages ago with my G1. It restored the apps OK but they didn't show up as 'installed' in the Market so Market doesn't give you updates.
I notice MyBackup now has a 'root' section in the preferences which includes a 'Market db' option. The only other apps I've seen that can do it require root so it looks like maybe it can't be done :-/
Failing that I'm now looking for the restore solution with the least clicks, then jerrycycle's idea of ATrackDog (thanks!). AppMonster doesn't have a batch install, App Manager (by Amazing Droid) does and pops up the usual install dialog so thats 2 clicks per app.
AppBrain looks cool, you can make a backup list of your apps on the web, then resync after wipe, but it does a market search for each one which is quite a lot of clicks It does note protected apps though, which the others can't dump so I'd loose track of them.
hmmm not going well. Market shows all apps I had installed but as 'free', it thinks they're available to install. If I install the app from SD - I've tried MyBackup, Astro and AppManager - it is available in the launcher but still listed as 'free' in the market.
Looks like only way to do it is to go down the list in Market and manually install each from there.

Market and installed apps

Hello,
There is a way for Market to recognize the reinstalled app from a backup?
I've upgrade my dream to CM5.0.7 and reinstalled the app that i had previously backupped, but Market don't recognized the app, why?
Any idea before i re-dowloading my 100 apps....
TIA
Idk
Its to do with the markek's database file not having your apps on it.
If you didn't back it up then you have a problem.
You could try Titanium Backup, as if you have donated you get something called market doctor which might help you, I suggest you email the developer and ask if titanium backup will restore market links without the original market.db file.
Or if you have a nandroid/BART of your old ROM, then it makes things easier.
Make a new nandroid/BART (I prefer BART on Amon's 1.7.0 in terminal, by typing utility in the recovery terminal) of CM5.0.7.
Then restore the backup of your previous ROM.
Then install either Titanium Backup, or Backup For Root Users, or you could do it manually.
With Titanium Backup do a full backup including system, deselect stuff that is red, as you don't need it and it might interfere with CM5.0.7
With Backup For Root select what you need and the one that says market links, or something like that.
Or to do it manually, you will need to either use terminal or ADB to copy/pull the market database file, I don't know what file it is, but I think its
/data/data/com.android.vending/databases\assets.db
then just paste it back when you restore CM.

You can use titanium backup, it puts the backed up programs in its sdcard folder.
Astro file manager can do it too..
so if I used Titanium Backup, I can backup to my sdcard on my phone, put that sdcard in my tablet and restore the app on my Gtab from the sdcard?
if that will work, I would be 1 happy gtab owner
A very easy way I've found it to use a combination of RootExplorer and Dropbox. Install Dropbox on both devices....heck and RootExplorer on both as well..
On the phone, use Root Explorer to browse to the .apk then long press it...select "Send" then select "Dropbox" and it uploads it to your Dropbox. On the Gtab, open up the dropbox and install the app.
Send is not in the list of options for my Root Explorer, I have the paid version of RE and just installed dropbox.
Hmm...trying to remember what I could have installed that added that option....I have it for about everything....
Could be blackmoon attachment saver free...

how to export installed list of applications to some file

Is there any way or any command which can save my installed set of applications to a Text file or PDF. My applications are growing and I cannot remember every one of them and I require all of them at one point or other. Can anyone give me some guidance?
You could use titanium backup, it does have an option to create an update.zip file for your backups which I haven't used but I assume it backs up your apps to the zip so you can reinstall apps from recovery, would need someone to clarify this though
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I was using back up pro but it is no use. Suppose you flash a new rom, and if you restore most of them end up with Force Close errors. Since most of my applications are free, I don't mind spending some time installing them. But since many roms are changing so fast, I have to flash to keep up with the times, you know.
I don't know if there is such an option to save a list of installed apps, but it would be kinda useful.
I soon realized such a list would help and I am just manually creating my own in a text file, and all of the non-stock apps I have (thus far) added are in appbrain.com and I have ensured I have added each to "Apps on the phone" which then appears under "My Apps".
A list no but as all my apps are via AppBrain that's my list .
I use Root Explorer to copy all the APKS to a folder on the external card + a copy on PC . New firmware just open APK folder and install .
jje
For the time being, I am using Titanium free version and it backed up my applications and after I flashed the new rom I was able to restore all the applications via it's batch run commands. I do hope that I don't get force close errors. Upto now everything is working fine.
Thanks to all for your kind replies
