Never, goodluck without this stuff! just kidding... cm and rom chefs will fix and release new roms once froyo has completely been released on github.

You manually installed a leaked, non-released version of FroYo and you are asking why there are bugs in it?
Well, I am going to assume its because you installed a leaked, non-released version of FroYo, but I could be wrong.
EDIT: Yoy dont even have an N1, in that case I suggest you test it with releasebuilds rather then leaked builds.

Never. Hacked roms may allow it, or you could use a separate partition in the "traditional" a2sd approach. However the official approach is limited for good reason.

Custom ROMS will be coming, but the official froyo rlelease will probably be when they begin in earnest. Given the history of XDA and HTC it is a reasonable assumption there will be a couple cooked ROMS.
Cyanogen is very likely to release a ROM based on froyo. However we will need to wait for the AOSP release of the 2.2 branch before he can even begin.
On a secondary note can you please make an effort to use vaguely proper English? This post gave me headaches.

lmao nice!!!!

in which way is the official approach limited for apps 2 sd?
Won't there be more and more "sd-card compatible" apps at the marketplace soon after the official release?
Apart from that: I am more than happy with Froyo on my N1..

It isn't about the apps compatibility to SD. The official release just like the leaked one, is set up to where the developers have now the option to allow users to save their app to SD or not. Its all about technicalities. I'm sure it'll be possible for Enom/Cyan and the rest of the top devs to still implement the good ol apps2d we know in their ROMs, its just a question whether they're going against any of Google's set limitations or not.

I've been watching the I/O videos, and I can tell you that alot of the stuff that is broken in froyo is stuff that isn't finished yet. Very indicative of the fact the the released FRF50 was a blunder of a leak.
Expect the final build to be 58 or higher with alot of the broken bits corrected.

This OP is complaining about froyo but then asks if he should not get the nexus because of it. But don't you realize that ALL phones will be updated to froyo? So if you don't like it then it has nothing to do with the nexus.

So let me get this straight, the entire purpose of this thread is to ask if an update that was installed manually, and thus not he official final build has some issues. Issues that only a small number of people are experiencing?

In Froyo the default A2SD requires the app itself to allow the move to sd and for good reason. Froyo's implementation puts the apps on the FAT32 partition, not an independent EXT3/4 partition. This means that when the SD Card is mounted these apps will not be available. There are a number of situations where this will cause problems (home screen replacement, apps that have background services, etc...)
Over time I am sure many apps will allow storage on SD but it will not be 100% ("When will I be able to put any app on sd?" emphasis mine.)

LOL exactly what was this thread all about?

okay so heres the thing one you dont use good engrish when making youre post two it is very hard to stumble thru the incoherent conglomeration of letters you have vomitted onto this thread three if you dont have a nexus yet why are you worried about bugs that may or may not be present in an unofficial leaked build of the new os four most of the issues you pointed out are not present in current official builds (eclair, etc) and will likely not be implemented in froyo either you will have to wait for hack to be available five i wrote this so that you can possible understand it i hope it works.....

dosent say anyhing about dohnut here is what is there "We plan to continue working with Google to introduce future software updates to the T-Mobile G1. Reports to the contrary are inaccurate." im not saying there will be no updates but im not sure about dohnut according to this article they even had a hard time fitting cupcake on the g1 http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/the-g1-storage-problem-in-charts-and-numbers/. Although i see your point
The issue seems to be that Android OS is becoming bigger and bigger, and non-rooted G1s are limited by the amount of onboard memory they have. Since most of us here on xda run A2SD ROMs, we will have no problems with Donut stuff. Heck, cyanogen has a lot of Donut stuff already included in his ROMs.
If you don't root your G1, your phone will soon run out of space for the newer versions of the OS.

Do you think its possible in the next release or update they would just force apps2sd to create the space they need and obviously create their own tools to maintain it.

That's something that I've defintally pondered myself. But I don't think they should force, they should give the option. Because some people may not want to buy another SD card..
Best way for it to be done is give you options to install the components you want, i dont use music on my phone i have an mp3 play so would happily swap that for some amazing feature, or simply optimize and release applications
i guess this is on topic since it concerns dream and donut. but to anyone not following cyanogen on twitter. he is pretty damn close to a functioning donut. the last donut he did didn't have any kind of data or signal access and he said that he got mobile data working which is a huge leap forward so maybe we will donut on the g1 soon enough.
just a thought... i wonder if someone could make a spl that got rid of all the unneeded space in cache that is supposed to be for ota updates that would brick the phone? that would be great but i don't see that happening

the problem is most people wouldnt be able to format to ext2 or 3 and if they remove their sdcard it could break their system (unless they alloww it on fat32)
which almost all other mobile operaing systems do so im sure they could.

Yes good point.
My main thing was just that after reading some articles on the topic everything was so glum. Like saying there may not be many more updates. In which i think i would hesitate to buy another product from them if they offer that up as an excuse and quit supporting updates and just move on to the next/ better phone.
From what ive read it really seems like the options are 1. Quit Developing new stuff, or 2. Give root to everyone and move stuff over to the SD. (Maybe im wrong but i think they would need to give us root to move the stuff to the SD).
They could possibly do it by the size of the SD card for the normal user. If its one gig, maybe just apps. If its 8 then apps, cache, audio resources, etc. That would be accpetable IMO.
I need to read up up i have no idea what donut actually is, i have cyan 4.01 but never followed the updates so i have no idea what the features are, etc.
Good day!

Vibrant and Future Proofing

Hey Guys,
I'm on the fence about buying a Vibrant and I'd love some perspective from you guys, the dev community.
I saw the Vibrant, love the screen and overall performance...however, I'm concerned about the future (6-9) months out.
The device is supposed to get Froyo..but what about Gingerbread?
How is the dev-ability of this device? Might there be a custom ROM to 1) have Froyo before Samsung 'blesses us' with it...what about Gingerbread?
Thanks guys - I'm new to this scene and appreciate your perspective.

ok...part of it was. it was a Q to the devs about the potential to put ROMs on this device.
I read on an Android blog comment that even though the phone has been rooted, that drivers are not 'in the open' so therefore ROMs would not be possible. I'm wanting to fact-check this

No definitive answer to that, but more than likely. Almost every previous device has either received a custom unreleased or early leaked android build. No worries though, we won't be waiting long for an official 2.2 dump. FYI, this device will eventually get Gingerbread. Google has already reported that all devices running a 1ghz processor will receive Gingerbread. However, don't expect that until AT LEAST the end of the year, possibly later.
I would suspect that we will start seeing Froyo roms come out between the time Samsung releases the "official" froyo rom and T-Mobile pushing said rom to the handsets.
Rooting was available for me even before i purchased the phone. Now i found out, Cyanogen Mod 6 is on the works. I believe that is froyo. Also, Clockwork recovery is as well. I believe we are in good hands. Future looks good so far being the phone out in my hands only 5 days.
ok cool. I was holding back on buying a Vibrant because I don't want to plunk down $500 bones and then have this thing be obsolete when Gingerbread comes out.
I'm still wondering the "open source" status of the driver of Vibrant. Someone said it's closed thus may affect the custom ROM progress? Can anyone elaborate on this a little bit?
CM6 for vibrant is being actively developed right now, its in an alpha0 stage, and should be finished(within a week hopefully) as for Gingerbread, I have no clue whether we will get that working on the vibrant, dont know the requirements, but since the vibrant is the fastest handset currently available, im thinking gingerbread will happen. Also we have plenty of space, plenty of ram, and a 1ghz processor, we'll be seeing dual core handsets at the end of the year/early next year, until then im happy to be getting my vibrant tomorrow shipped to me by tmobile.
some french guy already got froyo working on the galaxy s, its being worked on and will happen.
I'm also very happy tmobile has a Equiptment installment plan for me, since ive been using the G1 since October 08, im very happy to upgrade to this device

Since CM6 is froyo, we'll definitely see that before we see the official froyo rom from samsung. It'll be stock android--just like the nexus one style of look-- but at least it's android 2.2.
Once froyo (touchwiz ui) from samsung is released, we will definitely get a lot of froyo ROMs from our community, or if you're still stock then you can get the official update

[Q] Evo 2.2 port to Hero possible?

This may have already been discussed but I couldn't find anything in the search. Has anyone done this or is it even possible to do? Are there any other ways to get 2.2 with sense on the Hero?
Not possible from evo. Its build for a different processor. Best bet will be when the legend gets there official release and gets ported over.

As far as I know, the closest thing to a fully functional Froyo on the CDMA Hero would be Cyanogenmod 6.
According to this link, the only thing NOT working is the PREVIEW for the camera apps. Otherwise, from what I've read, its an all around stable ROM ready for daily use.. As long as you're not co-dependent on your camera.
I'm thinking of taking the leap today.

Desire froyo is way to big to be ported. The best chances for a full port of froyo is from a legend build which when it comes out in the next month or so I already know someone who is getting ready for the port. Other than that the home made froyo is all that's gonna work for now.

Just so you know, that's Froyo, build FRF91, overclocked to 768mhz. Only thing that doesn't work is flash, b/c it's written for an arm7 processor, not an arm6.

[Q] What are Froyo leaked Pros & Cons

Hi guys Im new to this thread and I've been reading the whole treads for like 3 days and for some reason im getting confused about the pros and cons so I just want to ask if my understanding about the froyo leak flash with odin3 is correct. If there is something else that i forgot to mention that is really important please remind me before i flash my new captivate
PRos:
1. flash 10.1 on browser
2. JIt compliler
3. no need to root the phone
4. can save apps on sd card
5. GPs more accurate
6. can still be root
Cons:
1. unlocked code from 2.1 eclair to use other sim will not work anymore
2. IMEI number will change and impossible to retrived unless you send them back to samsung?
3. no more android keyboard
4. void the warranty?
5. updating through OTA will not work anymore after reverting from froyo 2.2 leak to the stock 2.1 eclair by using odin3
6. after flashing couple of times from reverting to eclair to froyo will ban you from andriod market and the phone will state that there is no sim even if there is one inserted
7. lag issues
This is my first time to have an android phone so im totally noob and no idea yet and a little scared of making mistake. Also if i root my phone will i be able to unroot it again in case i want to return back the phone to at&t? Thank you in advance
Are your pros supposed to be compared to 2.1?
"no need to root"? There was not a need a root 2.1 either - or the same reasons existed, so i don't follow this.
The way i see it, 2.2 gives you access to 2.2 only apps in the store. Not much else. It is 2.2, yes, but there is not a lot more functionality. I do want it, but I can wait for official build.
BTW, there are built in tether apps - no longer in 2.1 JH7. That could be a pro.
Cons:
How about bugs and work arounds. It is stable, but Google groups and Exchange groups don't work. Samsung email client is broken when replying, etc. There is a pretty good list.
I will wait for the next build from Samsung, but that is me.
If your a "basic" user such I am (no exchange support needed) and just do the basic tweet/fb/browse for porn (erm?)/ play music/txt etc... I think you would be fine.
But.. if your not comfortable flashing ROM's and realize that your going to be voiding your warranty as soon as you do. Then don't do it and wait for OTA.
And I can't imagine that the OTA would be any better or feature rich then Cognition's 2.2.X beta.
Btw.... you listed
"3. no more android keyboard"
DG added it into the latest build.
CON: ATT address book doesnt work.
PRO: better battery life.
Pro: Cognition any version

I have not heard of this problem before. I will do some checking on it but sounds like he is a noob that is looking into anything that can possibly go wrong. Also sounds like whoever originally posted that problem most likely had no idea what they were doing and flashed 2.2 wrong even though I do not know how that is possible. I have flashed back and forth since SRE and have done so for each Cog build to keep current. Phone works amazingly, GPS is flawless and is the fastest phone I have ever owned. Go Cognition!!

DON'T DO IT!!!! wait for the Official release, this is a leaked..aka stolen version of froyo, you will void your warrenty. If you still want to do it after what i said keep in mind that when the Official release of froyo comes out and ATT wants to do an over the air (OTA) update, the ATT server will not recognize your phones firmware any more so you won't be able to get the update of the leagle version of froyo. This leaked...or stolen version is full of glitches don't download it.
ok seriously, its not going to void your warranty if u revert back to stock using the easy 1 click restore by odin...ive sent mine back once i was running cognition 2.2 and they had no problem exchanging it. the leaked version is NOT NOT NOT NOT full of glitches, it works perfectly and i have yet to find a problem with it! so dont talk here unless u knwo what u are talking about buddy

Number 1 im not your buddy sir...number two it is glitch ridden and thats been posted all over the internet. As well as an att bulletin that was release...maybe you need to do a little more studying "buster". Check out the ATT bulletin and it will advise as well as other xda-developers not to install as this is not the final version but it is a stolen version and as with all stolen merchandise there are issues once recieved by the poor sucker who bought it. Once you down load this froyo stolen version 80% of the android market will not recognize your phone so apps that you had previously won't be available anymore. And yes as quoted by ATT this will void your warranty so download at your own risk "Pal"

I've been using 2.2 since like a couple days it was released. * touchwood* so far all I noticed is that my battery performance is better. I don't even know what "glitches" u r talking about.
Before u say some software is glitchy, please be specific atleast for a few of them. And an FYI, not having android keyboard is not a glitch.
EDIT:
I got my first Captivate right on the 2nd day of its release. I exchanged it for another in 2 weeks due to battery issues. I rooted, n then flashed back to stock and returned. No question of warranty loss if you know how to revert back to stock.

ahaha wow this is seriously entertaining! Hopefully you continue as i needed a good laugh today.
I have been on the froyo LEAK since the day after it popped up and it has been much more stable than any version of eclair EVER was. This is the whole point of xda....you can go hang out with all the newbs at androidforums or something and preach about how dangerous it is and stick with eclair.
you have no clue if it is stolen. How do you know samsung didn't release this on purpose to get feedback?? I would never listen to a word ATT says they are a joke. Its people like you that need to just keep their mouth shut you obviously have yet to flash so how can you preach about how it is 'full of glitches' haha.
oh and its really hard to odin back to stock to get the official update.
I did not know that 80% of the market is not supposed to recognize my phone any more. Somebody should let the market know. Maybe now that I know 89% of the market is not supposed to work it will now quit working. Oh no! as I am typing this 93% of the market just disappeared from my cappy!
And by the way, if I get caught with stolen software in my possession - i'm turning all of you all in!

It's a leaked rom, which means that someone decided to release this...why are so many people interested in having their phones flashed back to eclair if this leaked rom is so much better? I don't understand...If I own a ford and decide to buy a toyota and it's a much better car...why would i go back to a ford? That's moving backwards right?

id definatly buy a ford over a toyota right now. toyota is overrated and ford is moving up. really drive one before you speak.
ok froyo has market issues right now do to presumably the android id. it has many new gui features and is much faster and in my experiance better battery life. so if you cant deal with the market errors wait for an official release. that is why many are going back. that and some of us are addicted to flashing our phones every 48 hours.

2.3 what the f...

Now LG say 2.3 after the summer on swedish site
That must be a joke,
but by the way... i'm sure lg will bring android 2.3 to the 2x when cyanogen brought 3.1 alread!
There is no CM 3.1 ROM, Honeycomb is still closed source.

I'm sure he means, that by the time 3.1 (Or really ICS, 'cause HC isn't going to be opensourced) has been turned into a CM release, LG might release GB
When they realese it then CM8 would come with Ice Cream Sandwich!
I am just joking.

+1
Wrong section - stop replying people, thread needs to die.
Why is there yet another thread about this???
We all know it was delayed, and I think more and more people know it won't come at all.
I got 2 email replies from LG. The first one said the update will come after summer for sure. The second one said there is no precise date for the update, not even after summer.
So to sum up:
n°1 LG is telling us all to go **** ourselves on this one
n°2 It's useless to open a new thread every time LG tells us to go **** ourselves
n°3 LG is ****ing ****
Froyo -> Gingerbread upgrade is not all that big. Most of you won't even know its running gingerbread vs froyo. Not sure what the big deal is.
its not about the software update, we have CM7 for that.
Its about the kernel update that we want from gingerbread.
And also, are you kidding? "most of you want know the difference" ? where do you think you are? this is XDA why do you think where here?

Pretty sure most of the people *****ing about it want it for the sake of having the number "2.3" written on the version screen as oppose to "2.2.2". What will gingerbread let you do that you can't do now?
If you're having issues with the phone (reboots/freezes etc) then fair enough otherwise just chill. It's just a phone.
I had a HTC Legend before Optimus 2X. And when the stable cm7 rom was running in my phone it was WAY faster then with any stable custom Froyo-rom. And 2.3 looks very nice. 2.3 also has the Screen-off animation, and a function to select text in messages and on webpages to easier copy, edit or delete parts.
Thats what I can remember I miss atm..

Yeah you're right, we need the kernel to produce better and stable CM7s or other gingerbread builds >< If only we could get our hands on one single Optimus 2x kernel source code ><
Dont know if you have tried CM7 lately but its VERY stable, at this point the only thing we need LG to fix is maybe the battery drivers

Yeah the battery drain issues ><
Gb will surely bring a lot of stuff to o2x as I understand. Most important imho proper use of dual core and gtalk videochat. Guess a lot of people will notice the speed improvements at least.

I almost agree.... cm7 rocks and no point at all using standard rom however the battery aint so bad is it? I manage live wallpaper, fair usage on wifi, 3g and 3 hours a day audiobook ( yes works tough going lol )baseband/rij 725 and she lasts a day no problem ........ if you think thats bad you should try my wifes iphone 3gs!!!
edit:- lcd brightness is also up full tilt
edit again.... why doesnt lg/htc/etc etc hire the cm devs? as far as im aware they dont get paid much if anything other than the odd donation and a new phone here and there for a hell of a lot of work.... surely if anyone should be doing the official roms its people like them who love their work?
