Hey guys,
Right now im running kingnexxusdesire rom 2.1 that includes an undervolted kernel as I understand it. I'd like to change to the undervolted overclocked kernel.
When I get the kernel which right now I have "boot-cm_2633.2-oc-uv-xtra-ram"
Can I change the kernel easily? If so, what are the steps?
Thanks
download kernel, put it in the root of your sd card, reboot into recovery, choose flash from zip .. done..
if you have root (what i assume ) download quickboot from the market, great tool for faster booting into recovery.
SUPER EASY, wow.
Thanks for letting me know! Most appreciated!
Actually, I tried all the kernels in .zip format like you said that were overclocked.
i get to the quietly brilliant screen, it finishes writing, then reboots over and over, what the heck?
Make sure you have the right kernel and compatible with the ROM you have right now. Kings ROM being an older ROM not sure if the .33 kernel work on that. Try the .32 kernels by pershoot. You might have to push the zimage and wifi module manually though.

Rather than ask how to push a zimage etc.. Can you tell me if there are any desire roms that have a 1.113ghz kernel preloaded?
I choose to use this rom instead because modacos bluetooth doesnt work and this one does for me.
I could help you either way and whatever you prefer to do.
But as far as desire ROM. If you can't use Modaco's you should give this a try, now this isn't really a full desire with sense UI but a touch of it. I loved the ROM though and if I wasn't satisfied with the FroYo this would have been my ROM.

He doesn't specify if it still has pinch homescreens, if it does I'll go with that, I dont really care much for the widgets myself which i could probably add later
nevermind, i just saw a screenshot, i love my pinch homescreens.
could you tell me how to push the zimages and give it a try? im trying to outdue my gf's evo so i can claim better phone LOL
I don't think it has pinch homescreen but it has the same effect when you press home button. The adw launcher that comes with the ROM is highly customize able.

LOL I knew this was coming... just flash the FroYo, shell be jealous of the JIT and the Flash lol.
Well I tried looking for the .32 OCed kernel but no luck... So if you find it, all you have to do is unzip the file, it will have the "zImagefile" and the bcm4329.ko file.
Now assuming you know a little bit about the basic adb commands do this simple steps:
While your phone is on:
- adb reboot bootloader
It will take you to the bootloader screen
- adb remount
- adb fastboot flash zimage "zImagefile" (Note: type the full file name, probably be zImage_cm-oc-uv something like that)
- reboot phone
Once phone is on.
- adb push bcm4329.ko /system/lib/modules
- Set CPU speed via SetCPU app from market
You should be all set.

hey guys, just rooted my Samsung Captivate. Everything has been going great till now. i Downloaded a lagfix, which is honestly the main reason i rooted my phone. however after everything (yes, i did everyting right) i didnt have the app that was included in the .zip file iput in my phone. the app is called MCR scripts.
i did some reseach and i found this key line
"*** If MCR Scripts DOES NOT show up, its probably because you don't have the non market install hack on your phone. In the update.zip you can find the apk and install via ADB, but I didn't do it this way. ******"
in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750869
so how do i just get the MCR scripts? i downloaded tayutama's zip file and i found the folder named "scripts" with the 3 files in there but they are .sh files.
so what do i do here? do i need to convert then to apk or something? please help!!!
forgot to mention...because i have a captivate i can not just go to setting/applications/ and choose for any app to be allowed or what not. i simply do not have that option. i use android central to get my apk files working on my phone. I have tried to run a zip file that will just let me install the apk file on my phone with no need for a computer. But that was to no avail.
bumping this.....this forum moves fast haha
thats an old thread and deprecated now im sure. why not flash a kernel with voodoo enabled? That would be a much safer and logical approach
woooah what?
i would like to get all technical and hardcore with this rooting thing but step by step lol. I'm still in my beginning stage i have a lot of experience to be earned ahead of me. is there no way to just get the mcr scripts as an apk?

have a look at the date on that thread, and the FIRST LINE in the thread asking to be deleted....
right, i didn't notice that...wow. either way that new thread the link is dead. and for me to run that packaged zip file i would need to completely set my phone to stock, nor do i know how to do that. Im simply asking for just the MCR files in apk format if that is possible at all. If not then can you please point me in the right direction? Thank you for all the help so far, i truly do appreciate it.
i guess the real question here is what is your ultimate goal?
you want froyo? install a rom (most everything on the dev forum will install a lagfix for you, click on the link in my sig)
you just want a 'lagfix' on stock eclair? install a 2.1 kernel with voodoo
rom would be customizing the android correct? like a new home layout and what not? That would be cool but im happy with what i have...i would just like to be able to download any app for free. and get the lag fix. i got the first part down (apps for free) by rooting the phone, all i have to do is get the apk downloaded on my comp then run android central to install it on my phone.
so i download kernel with voodoo, is it just a drop into internal sd...same as when i rooted my phone? then go into recovery and choose reinstall packages?
ok found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784170
sooo i would definitely be installing the one WITHOUT the back light notification, as...my hpone doesnt have leds. Hopefully it works for all galaxy s phones because this seems to be for only the 19000 captivate? while i have the sgh captivate from AT&T.
3rd page in less than 24 hours...wow lol
so at this thread
http://project-voodoo.org/download
i downloaded the lag fix for my phone which is like near the bottom of the page. i renamed it to lag fix zip file tp "update" but since i have the other files that are also renamed to "update" like for my rooting and stuff the file ended up being update(3) idk if that makes a difference but when i booted my phone from recovery mode after choosing resinstall pacakges, the phone boots up normally no long pause durgin the at&t screen or anything so i know the lag fix didnt work...also because the phone is still...slow. helllp! please.
you need to remove ANY other update.zip files from your phone and rename THAT file to update.zip
then reinstall packages
once you have installed an update.zip it is no longer required on your sdcard
thats what i was thinking, just wanted to make sure. Ill check back once its done thankyou.
YES!!! i knew it was going to work when i heard the freaky computer lady's voice haha. Even still, i didnt notice a HUGE improvement, my quadrant score is a bit dissapointing only 1400...
yea, so do you guys think i should maybe overclock? its still laggy/slow to me. Im sure becuase of the preious iphone usage lol. whats the best way to o/c? i heard that the overclock app isnt very reliable...i know , i know, overclocking itself isnt relable but are there other ways about doing it?
off your original topic ...
understood. making a new thread.
Does anybody have a copy of Speedmod's kernel K13B? K13C has turned my phone into a CD drive - at least as far as my computer is concerned - and though I saw a fix for that for an earlier version of the kernel, there doesn't seem to be one for K13C. Speedmod's download site doesn't include K13B, just A and the unfortunate (for my phone) C.

Look for the vold.fstab fix. It is independant of the kernel but will fix the drive mounting issue

Thank you, Pirateghost, I'll give that a go. I really do love Speedmod's kernels as a rule... despite their unwillingness to let my battery show as 100% full for more than a minute our two. I'll hunt this up and give it a try now.

Hoh! Double blessings to you, laddie (or lassie, as the case may be). Unfortunately, the fix didn't work for my phone. Hopefully, going back to K13B will.
Well, hell! Reinstalled K13B... but now, auto-rotate is messed up, and pushing the "Home" button when the phone is in the browser sends it back, instead of to the phone's home screen.
Am I going to have to clean this thing off completely, then try to add the kennel again from a new OS? Try another kernel? This is really annoying, because the phone was running very well before I tried K13C.
Which reminds me: Does anyone have Cognition 3.02 or 3.04? Honestly, I usually save all this stuff to my computer once I've downloaded, but for some reason, I didn't with this kernel and rom. I might give a go to loading Cog 4, but considering my luck, lately, I want to have the option of going back, if need be, and DG's site no longer seems to include earlier versions of Cognition, unless he's hiding them somewhere I'm not aware of.
just load a new kernel. it looks like that version of K13b was meant for i9000 not the captivate version
Hmph, yes. That would definitely cause issues. Okay, so the question is still on the table: does anyone have a copy of K13B for the Captivate (with apologies for not making that clear in the first place)? And Cognition 3.02 or 3.04?
EDIT: Nevermind. I removed and reinstalled RocketDock, which had somehow become corrupted, and the problem solved itself. I have no idea why it should have affected how my computer read my phone, but it did. Thanks, everyone for your help; I'll start a new thread to request the earlier form of Cognition.
just downloaded the firefly 2.7 with clock and before i start i wanna ask one question, tried searching around but couldn't get what i was looking for. when i look how to flash the firefly 2.7 rom, the guide that i am reading is wanting me to download clockwork update zip to flash the rom. when i flashed cognition 4.3 i didn't do that, i just re-rooted my phone and downloaded rom manager and got into clockwork like that. that is the way im most comfortable doing it, because ive had one successful flash that way. will this work for this rom also? thanks
Basically it's the same thing. the update.zip is the same as the one created by clockwork recovery. You can install clockwork and then install this ROM, either way will work.
Yes that way will work. However, if you download all the stuff you need for flashing roms and save it to one folder, its just as fast as going through Rom manager and makes you feel like your following the instructions.
Also if you download the update.zip you wont have to root and install rom manager. Assuming you flashed back to stock with odin before firefly.
does 2.7 already have the Gallery.apk without battery drain. and if it doesn't do i just d/l it, replace it with other Gallery.apk and boot into recovery and reinstall packages?
You can replace the Gallery.apk with SGSTools
Can I download the gallery apk file from my phone? What would be the next step for me to take after that? Now I know how to flash roms, I now need to figure out how to edit files like that.
Sgs tools, upgrade stock apps, modded 3d gallery. It will install it for you. thats it.
They also have the gallery app from a Desire, and yes, its the one WITHOUT the battery drain bug. I personally have switched to Quickpic.

That's a little easier than I thought it was gonna be. This rom is awesome. Scored lower on quadrant test but higher on the antutu test tho!

I was able to root my captivate, my specs are: 2.3.5- 1897UCKK4- kernel 2.6.35.7-I897UCKK4-CL614489 Gingerbread. Downloaded ROM manager and it doesn't list captivate when I try to flash clockworkmod, why? Also have OCLF and when I try to lagfix it says I don't have playlogos file. Can some help me out here. I am fairly new to this, but I think it has something to do with EXT2 not being EXT4?
Don't use ROM manager. You need to flash a kernel that has CWM baked in. You can find one in the dev section. Also, I'm pretty sure lagfix is not really used anymore

Thank, I used Odin and the kk4 kernel you recommended, seems to work good, but I was wondering how I can make my phone faster. I only get a 1240 with quadrant
Quadrant means nothing... Those scores are able to be manipulated by a single line of code.

gj23, Thanks for listing the fw versions of your phone, I'm interested in how you were able to root your stock 2.3.5 Captivate. I have tried three the following root methods and all have failed.
1) Super1Click, freezes during su from file system errors in logs.
2) update.zip to sdcard, fails with file signature not recognized.
3) rageagainstthecage.zip, fails to reconnect to PC after adb disconnects; or terminal emulator freezes up.
So I'm wondering if AT&T didn't make this build harder to root.
Is there a rooted mod compatible with this phone build?
If so, Can I use a rooted mod and flash it without being rooted first to get root permission?
I have searched and read so hopefully I'm not wasting anyones time. These are my phone specs.

Thanks for the info, I was afraid of compatibility issues with modem/kernel/bootloaders but this worked flawlessly!
Im trying to run 2.3.5 stock with lagfix
This is the only forum that comes close to my question.
what i am trying to do:
Run 2.3.5 Gingerbread stock (i have to official kies mini release)
apply a lagfix
debloat.
but i always get a random reboot effect.
i took a look into the Fasty Rom but the DL links are dead.
since this was the only rom that seemed to appeal to me right now.
I wouldnt Mind a Deodexed rom. but i want to keep it as much of a stock as possible.
I am still learning the captivate ways since this was given to me and i use it as a tablet.
the stuff i use.
I897UCKF1-AutoRoot-DesignGears.tar
CornKernel_UCKK4_v706.tar (v705 also causes reboots)
my potential problems are
init.d
CWM (kernel)
and debloating (have gotten cases where the reboots dont start till after i debloat.)
any information might help since ive searched google and the androidforums website.
but the lagfix seems to be intended for 2.2 and 2.1
EDIT:
ima be trying this in the mean time.

As you probably noticed, Corn is probably your best answer for what you wanna run.
If you're looking into something with better performance, I'd suggest a JB ROM. That being said, this device will only go so far which the hardware it has.
Any recommendations?

if this is true about the performance, how noticeable would it be?
and what Jellybean Rom Would you suggest that could give me a balance of performance and battery life?
which is something im going for right now.
so far the specs i have are running great but if there really is a way to boost my performance by more then 30% it would be a welcoming sight.

You won't get much more than what you're getting atm cause like I said, the hardware can only go so far.
As for ROM, we don't make suggestion (to avoid flaming). If you really wanna take on a JB ROM, look them up and choose the one that suits your style the best.
i see then...`

can you get into cwm?
if yes, go into cwm, connect your phone to pc, mount usb storage, download this file manager for cwm, flash it. it will open a manager. go to /system/lib/modules and rename x8oc.ko to something else (for example xx8oc.ko). now you should be able to boot your phone
ps: if you can't see anything in /system, exit aroma file manager, mount system for recovery and run it again
