My company requires that I use Blackberry service. The company uses a Blackberry Enterprise Server. The company also requires I use a Blackberry unit. Initially I downloaded Blackberry Connect onto my HTC Tytn II (defying requirements). But after about a month I received an inquiry asking which Blackberry model was the HTC Kaiser. My ruse had been discovered. I acquired a Blackberry Bold which I am now forced to use. And my Tytn II is gathering dust. My question is, "Can I modify anything in my HTC Tytn II so it reports that it is a Blackberry Bold to my company's Blackberry Enterprise Server"? Then I can go back to using my favored Tytn II.

Unless you want to wait until Halloween to disguise it , I think it's not possible due to the same thing that you are stating in your post. The BB service will recognize an HTC device eventhough you are using BB connect. I don't know if someone has developed a tool or software to "disguise" a HTC to be a BB since I think it will be ridiculous since our HTC phones in personal opinion are way better than BB, so no one will see this as "productive" to do . Maybe I'm wrong, but the answer can be in a wonderful tool that I know will reveal your wishes.....Google....
HTC app
I believe HTC has an app for this on their Tilt support page.
BlackBerry Connect for the AT&T Tilt | 08.06.2008
http ://member.america.htc.com/download/Driver/ATT%20Tilt/ActiveSync_BBConnect_Desktop_Setup_4.0.0.22.exe
I downloaded Blackberry Connect onto my HTC Tytn II (defying requirements).

Mr. Clown - Like your picture, I only want my HTC to appear like a BB on the Blackberry Enterprise Server. I think this does have merit since it could mean more HTCs in use. If my HTC can report (only report) to the BES that it is a BB, then I can use my HTC. If not, I must use my inferior BB

Handsome right ,
I got your point, but my answer is that you can't do it, unless you are a very good hacker to disguise your htc in the bb service report. Sorry dude, you'll need to use your crappy BB unless you get a special permit to use your kaiser.
Good Luck
You just have to be that person it doesn't want to deal with.
Just keep saying but it is a blackberry like you are a total retard. They will give up and leave you alone. I.e. If you said the internet was free because you can grab it out of the thin air enough times and just keep repeating that like its a god given law they will tire of trying to explain it to you. Or if you just keep saying but Jesus is still alive frantically. You're problem is you're being reasonable with you while they're being irreasonable to you, you just need to speak thier language - It's a blackberry! Then just hit whatever you do to connect to the blackberry service and when the blackberry logo pops up say see! its a blackberry. If they ask you what type of phone it is say I don't know its a blackberry, when they say how do you know that say that when you turn it on you see the words blackberry pop up. If you really need to replace your splash image to say blackberry. If they say its an htc then say well how come he can have a bold, and she can have a world phone, but I can't have an htc I thought I was allowed to have a blackberry too. Trust me they'll give up.
Of course in this economy you may just want to keep using the bold cause the reasonable intelligent person who works under the irreasonable person making the policy may wanna have you fired because they too are actually irreasonable too.
by the way, they are probably doing that so they can spy on you. I don't know the blackberry enterprise but if it comes down to not being cool w/ interoperability through blackberry connect it likely comes down to centralized administration and policy enforcement (*cough spying*).. So while you use your bb just make sure you serially text "I love the company, the company is good, the company is comely".
Well I don't know about playing the "retard" is a very good choice. Because, I imagine the only thing that this guys form IT know very well in the company are BB!, don't you think.
So, let's see... if one of my employees is so stupid enough of not knowing the difference between a BB and a HTC when I ask you many times...boy...you are more stupid than they are, that's for sure. If I were your boss you better packed you stuff since I wouldn't want a person like that, for sure in my company

Or me?
I can't recommend a Treo 750 to a friend based on my experience (even though it's been tolerable with WM6).
What's the point of this poll? Every person has different needs. I have lots of friends I would never recommend a Tilt to. Has nothing to do with issues of the phone, its just that a PPC is not right for them.
I actually have a good friend right now that was looking at a Tilt when I bought mine. I've already told him he'd probably be happier with a BlackJack than the Tilt. Why? Because he needs a phone and doesn't really need (or even want) a PDA (he has told me he never liked Palm's in the past). As I've told him, and lots of other people, PPC's are PDA's with phone capabilities. Smartphones are Phones with PDA capabilities. There is a huge difference between the two. There is also a big difference in the types of people that use the two different devices. Heck, i work in a high tech company (I think Microsoft is the only software maker larger than us) and most of the people I work with had an 8125 or Apache device in the last year or two. Most of them hated it, but they were forced to buy it. Sure, part of that hate was due to how crappy WM5 and the official roms were on the Wizard and Apache, but most hated them because they just wanted a phone. Now most of these people have BlackJacks and they love them. Its because they now have a usable phone with hard keys, and it has the ability to do cool things that smartphones can do.
Then, of course, a lot of people (most?) would be better off with a Razr or similar. The just need a phone and nothing else.
So how am I to answer a poll like this? If you are asking for yourself, then I'd need to know more about you, what you are like with computers and other technology, and whether you are looking for a PDA / mini computer, or are you looking for a Phone as your primary device. If you are the right type of person, then yeah, in my less than one week of experience with the Tilt, I'd highly recommend it to you. I even still recommend picking up a Wizard or Hermes for that matter if I think a PPC is what that person needs (I just let them know they should upgrade the rom to make the most of it).
I tell people the same thing I tell them about my carputer - it's only for people who enjoy hacking around a bit and are really comfortable with computers.
I've been able to turn my Kaiser into so much because I can hack my way around and figure things out. I am not confident that many of my friends could do the same.
So I while I would certainly recommend it to my tech-minded friends - in a hearbeat, in fact - to my non-techie friends I would probably suggest getting an iPhone. Easy to use, cool, but not too heavy on advanced features - in other words, it does everything a non-techie would want.
I would recommend it to friend shopping for a PPC and wanting to select a good PPC.

Damn... Why read so much into everything???
I'll re-word it for you... "Are you happy with your Kaiser?"
Never! I like to be unique and if I recommend it, then I won't be the only one in my circle who has one
ok, ill just put it in simple terms.
The Kaiser is the ultimate PDA for someone who is a Data User and is on a 3G network, it's just seems so convenient to slip it out and search something or do something for a period of time on it. For me, this phone is for the power user
i wouldn't recommend this phone for someone using this phone on a non 3g network, whereas a P4350 would come handy with its edge and its decent processor. I DO NOT recommend the Kaiser if your a big talker on your phone and talk over of 2.5+ hours a day and like to do web browsing at the same time without ever hooking it up to a dock station or car charger.
the truth is, this phone is mainly for the power user and if anyone owned a HTC Tytn and liked it, this is only the perfect upgrade
I already bought one for my brother, so I guess yeah I would recommend it. I do agree with others here though, it is definitely for the more tech-savvy.
Non of my friends/family are "Tech Savvie" and I would not recommend any pda based phone. If they needed a pda type phone then yes I would recomend a Kaiser. It offers the most functionality of any current device. It is "Horses for Courses" My Mother in law can just about cope with a Nokia 3210. My Brother is happy with his SE K800i as he can leave his Ipod and Camera at home. Me I prefer to have the latest and greatest and most feature packed that is available at reasonable/no cost. I am happy to be at the Bleeding edge of technology and actually enjoy having to trackdown fixes, hacks and apps as long as I can get a result.
Depends on the person. If their usage pattern is like mine, then yes. If they just want a simple phone then obviously no.
Moderator,
Please look at this so called poll and see it as overwhelming 'FOR' and remove with result posted.
Thanks.
Allright guys,
I hate to do this, but I'm sick of getting flipped off and getting broken promises from HTC. If I wanted those, I'd just get into another relationship with what seems to be a nice girl at a bar. I've sent in more than 9 hand written letters and countless emailed ones. I've made the proverbial ****-ton loads of phone calls. And all this through my own, free time. And I know that I'm not the only one. There is an army of people here who've written, pleased, asked politely and signed a petition. We've lambasted through what seems to be HTC's "cover fire" on the issue. After being dicked around, I didn't want a politically correct and savvy response to the issue that tells me nothing at all. For the money I paid, I wanted the basics. What, When, Where, Why. What was the problem? When Will it Be Resolved? Why has this been overlooked? If I can't get away from my girlfriend with a politically correct and savvy response to the issue of why I spent $700 on a new phone, then I don't believe HTC can use that ploy either.
Yea we've all heard this rant before, but I'm sick of this. If **** doesn''t change soon, I'm taking my business and my accounts elsewhere. It's sad when I have to degrade myself to think about rebuying the iphone. But hell even if we all know the iphone doesn't have all the features the tilt does, at least IT DOES WHAT IT'S PROMISED TO DO. No Smoke and mirrors. No concise and no business response. It just does what it's supposed to do out of the box.
Good luck everyone. This may be the last HTC product I'll ever buy.
P.S. And for all those who say this is a Business Device, not an entertainment device: As a business user, it's pretty damn hard to tell a client "HOLD ON, I NEED TO SWITCH TO LANDSCAPE MODE" or "GIMME A FEW MORE SECS TO SHOW YOU THIS EXCEL SHEET. WAIT, IT'S LOADING. ALMOST...." Even us business users are getting pissed off.
And, again, I hate the iphone, but how many of them do you see complaining because their device doesn't do an advertised feature? Or is misadvertised?
I was a huge fan of I-Mate.
But the Kaiser seemd to be good. That's why I bought it.
I think this will be the last HTC I own. Gonna stick with I-Mate for ever.
We need to sue those *****es.
yes i agree at first i was im love with my tilt but when my video recording capabilities sucked arse and simple things like scrolling while playing music makes the device lag now u know its a problem ive hear dof frigging wizards playing games better than this and they tote this as it being the most powerful windows device out but i was still gonna buy another htc product but once they released that statement im like are u serious this sis ur answer not even a "u can buy 4 more apps for 20 bucks" like steve jobbs is doing i mean i wouldve at least appreciated that but i think i might go to the tytn or the iphone they deliver on wat is promised
My next phone will probably going to be an iPhone once they release a 3G version of it. I miss my 8525

I-mate is switiching manufactoring back to HTC, in essence it is just an HTC with I-mate branding. Hopefully they will support their devices with all the adequate software and updates, unlike HTC.

What do you mean "may"? I have absolutely excluded it. After all this mockery and arrogance from HTC, I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror if I EVER went and bought another one of their devices, at ANY point in the future.
Hi all,
I just want to say... I'm so pissed with the video driver problem for the Kaiser that I seriously considered trading my Tilt with an iPhone... and now it looks like it's happening. I'm having second thoughts though because I've been using HTC devices all my life and am used to it, besides the scalability and all, I need someone to talk some sense into me.
happy
Guess I'm the wrong person for this, since I use both an iPhone and the Tilt. Do you use the Tilt just for video? I mean seriously, even with the driver issues it's better than most devices out there. Pickup an iPhone and keep the Tilt. It takes a few seconds to switch the SIM card.
I mainly use the Tilt only for receiving emails, texts, calling and video. I don't use the GPS as much since I have a separate unit. I'm on tmobile too so 3G or HSDPA doesn't really do anything for me...
The pros for the iPhone, for me, are its form factor and its video capabilities, besides being able to do everything I need to do. Can the iPhone sync to outlook?
at least wait for the 3g iphone i think i may pick one up
I doubt the iphone will sync to outlook as there is no util on there to do this. maybe an after market app is available, but apple is apple and outlook is microsoft, so i doubt it. seriously an apple iphone??? i wouldnt trade my kaiser for 10 iphones. (well maybe for the value to sell them, but id buy myself another kaiser after )

The iPhone beats the Kaiser in most areas. Applications run faster with hardly any lag or lockingup. The Safari browser blows away IE and even opera. A jailbroken iPhone can have MMS and now video, but the video app is still very new and not complete. Please, if the iPhone had GPS I would've NEVER gone with the Tilt. It's bulky, slow, and the battery life BLOWS! It serves its purpose for why I got it, but takes a backseat to a jailbroken iPhone.
I prefer my Tilt over the iPhone because I can customize and make the Tilt MINE, and not like anyone elses phone. There's also third party programs to do anything you want, and the iPhone is only just starting to get into that market, and you'll need a wallet to take advantage of most of it.
Think of it this way, Kaiser -> XDA-Developers. iPhone -> Apple
Which one really cares about you more? XDA-Devs or Apple?

FCUK HTC !!!
What? You can mod the iPhone and also make it "yours". Doesn't cost a thing if you visit the iPhones matching xda dev counterpart called modmyifone.com where 3rd party developers are releasing apps daily. It still beats the Kaiser IMO cause I've modded both and work with both daily. Kaiser is slow and cumbersome and with the driver issues only leaves integrated GPS as its only appealing quality, but this isn't a iPhone/Kaiser debate thread. People that DON'T own both can continue and rant about why the Kaiser is better. All they have is opinion and not hands-on.
Buy an iPhone!
The way I see it;
Apple iPhone is a competiter of HTC (everything) and the more people buy the iPhone, the more HTC will have to improved on their own devices.
So buy the iPhone and make HTC work harder for the money.

I don't think HTC is gonna lose any sleep or care if you buy an iPhone or not. They have MANY devices. Not just the Tilt to worry about. Apple on the other hand seems more focused on making a quick buck rather than putting out the best device they could've. I love the iPhone, but when they released it, it lacked too many simple apps like MMS and Video Recorder. If they had put more focus on releasing the BEST phone out they would've included a working MMS and Video Recorder. Christ, they could've included GPS if they sacrificed size a little more and made this thing unbeatable. So for now, there are two equally great phones that I have to use. Tilt and iPhone. Both great devices.

Yes, considering the 8525 I previously owned was an awesome device. Apple didn't even bother to include the basic apps you can get in a cheap Boost Mobil phone. You can't say that about HTC that have how many great devices on the market?

I'll have to agree here. HTC seems to have pushed out the Kaiser.
Both are good phones but definitely lack where the other one shines. GPS and Video/Multimedia
I agree HTC rushed the Kaiser, but that in itself doesn't take away the fact that they have released a lot of great devices. One screwup (driver issue) doesn't put HTC in the same boat as Apple. I mean, who was on the development team for the iPhone? We're they too busy sending MMS with HTC phones that they forgot to include it in the iPhone? lol

Kaiser, Mogul, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, etc. It's not just one device, it's their entire recent line-up. And while the iPhone can be unlocked to handle MMS, HTC's devices cannot be hacked to add a driver, unless someone wants to cough up a couple hundred thousand dollars. Besides, this is the consumer market. Past doesn't exist, only the present. I don't care if HTC made good devices in the past, the same way I don't care if Apple made a groundbreaking computer back in the early 1980's. It's what they're doing NOW that matters.
iPhone and Outlook sync - wirelessly!!
Hello...i have both the iphone and the tilt. and yes, you can sync iphone to outlook wirelessly.
all you have to do is download the funambol.com client. it is amazing!
go to myfunambol.com and get the outlook client...then download the iphone client....voila....ota outlook sync....even better than the tilt.
the only reason, the iphone is not better than the tilt , imo, is b/c of the gps functionality as well as the fact that the keyboard is only usable in portrait mode (except for in mobile safari mode). This however, is being recitified in the next software update....
so, honestly, i am getting ready to ebay my tilt... I will be an iphone user until HTC comes out with a truly ready for market all in one device....hopefullly soon!
for those selling your used tilt and switching to the iphone... I'm a university student looking to upgrade from the Imate Kjam. I have posts regarding this on the Wizard forum. If any of you folks would be nice enough to let it go for cheap, I'd be a buyer for sure. Please PM me. Thank you.

If Apple finally releases iPhone v2, whenever, and it has GPS, MMS, and Video Record capabilities, I'll be using my Tilt as a paper weight. Graphically more pleasing, faster UI, slimmer design, and Safari? The Tilt can't touch it. Those that say "no 3G" have no clue. 3G isn't that much faster. A second or two difference from my experience, but it drains the battery like crazy. An iPhone can do circles around my Tilt for battery life. I tried listening to ONE podcast on my Tilt and it drained the battery to almost empty. That was one 4 hour podcast. I listened to 10 hours on my iPhone and the battery was about 50%. There's no comparison. The lack of a sliding QWERTY takes some getting used to and slows my text replies down a little, but I'm not texting all day long and you adapt prety fast to the new keyboard just like anything new you learn. I did think it was funny when I spoke to an at&t rep about setting up my voicemail and I told him I was switching between both phones, and the guy told me I couldn't do it. I said "yes, I can, and I am". Then he said I HAD to have Visual Voicemail on my account to use the iPhone and I said "uh, no I don't and the phone still works w/o it". This idiot was so set on telling me I had to have the iPhone plan. but I told him that I setup my account to reflect my Tilt, not the iPhone, and that switching between phones wasn't controlled by him or at&t and that I really didn't care what he thought. lol. I think he was a bit mad that he couldn't make me use the iPhone plan, but if I used the iPhone plan then the MMS on my iPhone wouldn't work. Dummies.
Now that apple have broken into the phone market, its only a matter of time before the next apple comes out. The apple phone may have been rushed a little, but it was their first attempt, and i take my hat off to them for the effort they made. now you know the next one will be the shiznik! if it has GPS and HSXPA with more apps available without bricking the device (once they open up to start allowing open source programming, which i think they started to now) theres no stopping it. HTC will loose alot of money simply because alot of people who bought the Kaiser and other previous HTC devices will move over for a faster, much more reliable phone that doesnt need a soft reset every other day. And mostly beause HTC have NOT made the effort to support their loyal fans by giving us drivers for the graphics/video problem.

I second that.
To be honest my friend, I had a Blackberry before coming to Tilt...among a million other phones. I had the Curve. You cant get AIM to work, the apps are trash, browser is worse than PIE before scroll fix, the maps didn't work right and sooo much more. You cant record movies, the pics are 2mp, and soo much more.
Thats my 2¢...but if your boss forces you...i suppose you could go with a pearl...its not as crappy as the curve.
ok so does anybody know who has one for sale really cheap
Also, dont forget to repost your req to the forums at http://crackberry.com/
My problem is similar to KD8DNS.
I am about to be given a blackberry to access our company Lotus Notes mail on a Domino server. Our IT department insists that we are bound to use a blackberry device and not the connect software.
Can anyone tell me that if I install the software myself on my TyTn would my IT department be able to know of this?
If you connect to corporate bb server, your IT have to grant access each time you connect a device to the server (whatever real bb device or wm device with bbconnect you use).
Same each time you reinstall the bb client (change rom, hard reset.....)
I had myself to convince them, and finally they accepted, to connect me thru bbconnect. Had given a try to bb device for a couple of months, but impossible to get used to it.
My agency is the same. We are in the market for some type of PDA phone. I've been trying to convince them to go with a Win Mobile device, like the Tilt. They are in love with Blackberry.
I finally got an answer just yesterday as to why. They claim the Win Mobile devices battery usage is inferior to Blackberry devices (Win Mobile eats batteries). As I've never owned a Blackberry, I don't know if this is true...
I know my Tilt can use up a full charge quickly. My BlackJack II seems to do alright, although it doesn't even come close to all the features of the Tilt.
I don't know how to argue against the Blackberry...
you see im a volunteer firefighter, and i had a call to a structure fire, all went well, we put the fire out and so on. well i had my breathing apparatus on and my blackberry in my pocket. for those that dont know, a scba (secondary contained breathing apparatus) is a air tank that you wear like a packback, when i took the scba off the corner of the scba slammed my leg, just so happened that the blackberry was right there, so it cracked the screen shattered the lcd and now im in deep crap with my boss, and not one to be spreading my problems to everyone else, i just had a new baby and really cant afford the full, almost 500.00 that att wants to just walk out with one with no contract, so i figured id post this thread in hopes that someone has a ATT curve that they dont need. Im NOT asking for a freebe just a good price. Im just really glad this didnt happen to my TILT i think i would have gone into a deep state of depression. Thanks guys/gals you all here have been very good people to me.
got to att site
I've gotten several curves off the att site as refurbs as low as 29... have to watch for them. also, enter your business email and you may qualify for premier and get more discounts.
Sorry to hear about the BB. Won't your boss have them all insured anyway?
And how about Ebay for a cheapie?
Hi Guys, I don't know too much about the difference in phones, I know I love the HTC Trinity but, my Network is offering me a Nokia E71 as an free upgrade, is it worth it?
I tried to read a little about the Nokia E71 and it sounds good so far however, am I gonna be as happy as I am with my HTC Trinity, is there anything I am gonna miss? I will always be a part of this forum regardless of which phone I use.
its a NICE phone. I think it looks a bit gaudy, but the keyboard's nice. And i've developed an intense hatred of wm, so any cahnge is nice.

Hi fzzyrn, thanks for replying. It interest me what you said about WM, do you think Symbian OS would be any better before it is cooked? Can you bake/cook Symbian ROM? Hmmmmmmmmmn, I am here doing some serious thinking.
no idea about the rom cooking, but it doesn't seem likely. You see, alot of higher end nokia users are businesspeople, and nokia is generally pretty good about software optimization.
i dont like that i have to install a whole bunch of software to get my phone the way that i want it when the e71 (or e61i in my case) already comes with pretty much everything that i use. Also, i've found touchscreen wm to be a bit difficult to use.
the question is, what do i use?
The answer- calender, alarm clock, phone, contacts (alot of them), sms, email.
i wont say the wm isn't "fun", but for the kind of stuff i do, its not particularly easy to use, and i get impatient waiting for the slide keyboard to change screen orientation.
What netowrk you on, if you haggle a bit, you might be able to get the Diamond if they offer it.
I used UIQ (so symbian, but not exactly S60) amd it was great. I had a P1i and it was touchscreen. It worked fine for what I wanted, but was a bit slow in opening things.
Overall, for calendar, contacts email, the small things symbian is ok, for word, excel, long periods internet browsing, stick with wm

LOL, I wanted to take it, the network sales rep made it seems like the best thing since slice bread. I will take it then, to be honest i wanted to wait a bit longer to see if they'll carry the Diamond. I don't think Three UK is gonna carry the diamond anytime soon.
From what I've heard, they are best suited for Symbian Operated Phones. My Trinity is actually from Orange (got it from my wife, she had issues with the touchscreen) but i unlocked it and now I am using it on 3 uk.
The TYTNII is the only wm phone they carry and I heard it isn't going too well on the network.
Oh well, I wanted a diamond but a E71 will work just fine I guess. I use my phone mostly for business (email, contacts, calendar task, notes, etc.) I don't use the MS Office application that much, all that could wait untill i get to the Office. I do surf the web a lot though especially when I am out on site. I really appreciate the feedback on the subject
yep. go ahead and get it.
send me your trinity if you want hinthint.
Send me the E71 if you don't like it, hinthint.
I have more posts than he does hinthint.
REAL subtle.
Bump...I have more posts than above!
touche, galaxys. touche.
yet i have more posts per day.
Sorry guys, sorry to disappoint you all but my wife wants to have a go at the Trinity again. Sorry!
I am going to Order the Nokia sometimes this week and see how it goes, at least if i don't like it I can send back if it is under 14 days. I'll keep you posted.

if you get it for free, of course, take it.
using it is a different story. i used nokia for several years (symbian 60 and 80) but since i am used to WM and the forum here, no chance for nokia anymore (only for my wife)
I have another thought guys. Check this out, I can now switch network and go with o2, get an iphone or stick with 3 and get a Nokia E71 or a TyTnII.
The Nokia 71 is new, iphone 3G is new and the TyTnII is old, been out since 2006 I think. The iphone I would have to pay some money for but that unlimited data plan and hotspot is a bit interesting to me. It is getting a bit complex for me now.
what do you use your phone for?
if you're heavily into business and calender, stick with the e71
if you're a "birkenstock wearing, clove-smoking vegetarian hippie" (not my words, 500xp if you can identify origin), get the iphone. Actually if you listen to music pretty heavily and you don't mind the software keyboard, get the iphone.
DON'T get the kaiser. What with the age, the video drivers (the mobile division of ati closed down, its that bad...) and the size, its not particularly worth it.

I've been hearing that phrase since college and to be honest, I never knew where it came from. I was busy googling the phrase and still haven't found its origin, i give up, you are gonna have to do me a favor and tell me.
its a term that the Princeton Review uses to describe the most politically liberal schools and institutions.
There may be another origin, but this is the one that i picked it up from.

It would have to be one of them Ivy Leaguers huh?
I've put a entire twist in this phone hunting thing. I just happen to Call a certain network about their phones and plans and guess what? When I got off the phone to them, there is a diamond on it's way to me, will get it Tuesday. 700minutes, unlimited text, free htc diamond all for £30 a month. Did I mess uip or did i get a deal.
I was looking forward to the Nokia E71 but, the screen too small, got used to a bigger screen. The keys are too small, I kept hitting a few of them at ones. Other than that it is a great phone. Someone told me not to use the touchflo on the diamond and I'll be ok. Is that true?
