What's the difference between a nandroid backup and a bart backup? Which is better?

I think Bart does a nandroid and a backup of the App directories.
where nandroid just gets Internal memory (With apps2sd it would skip stuff on SDcard)
Sounds to me like Bart = Nandroid + EXT

Thats exactly right
If "bart = nandroid+ext" then why do we have both options?

Indeed and why does everyone use nandroid? lol
Sounds to me bart is better.
Ill be honest, I use nandroid because the instructions say "Do a Nandroid" LOL
If they said "Do a bart" I would be a little offended.

1) So I went to run nandroid backup and it's saying
"Performing backup."
"Error running nandroid backup. Backup not performed."
That's all it says, and takes me back to the recovery screen...
I'm assuming this has to do potentially with the storage on my SD Card... any suggestions?
I am running Cyanogen 4.0.4 w/ Enoch v1.3
2) is there any way to roll back from Apps2SD so that Apps2SD stops working? Is it just as simple as re-partitioning the SD as FAT32 and move along? will cyanogen move the apps liek before? or should I reflash at that point?
thanks a bit of a newb, finally signed up here as I've been floating around a bit...
thanks in advance... Also I did search the forum, in hope someone had the issues I did, but found nothing...
Could this be due to the partition of the SD card for apps2sd??!
just curious.. since that's the only thing I've changed since my last nandroid backup...

yes, that might be it. you may have corrupted your nandroid files somehow or just plain lost them. i hope you were smart enough to do a complete sd back up onto your computer before doing any partitioning.
if you did a full back up onto your computer you should have a nandroid folder in there. drag and drop that nandroid folder onto your sd card after you delete the current one that is on your sd card. then do a restore.
I DEFINITELY made backups... my time as a unix admin, has taught me the necessity of backups lol...
so probably safest to :
a) reformat my sd card back to fat32
b) copy nandroid backup
c) restore
or
a) reformat sd card back to fat32
b) wipe
c) reflash CM 4.0.4
d) create a new nandroid backup
which is the best option?

try the first method. if it doesn't work, just do the second since that is the only leftover option, lol. good to know you made backups .
hey Opasha... thanks for the suggestions on fixing this, I opted for route number 2 as it seemed the freshest, and i had some spare time to get everything set the way I wanted... and was able to complete a successful nandroid backup now...
So thanks again for the help!
and yes...
it NEVER hurts to back it up lol

hey guys, since your apps are saved in the ext, after you wipe them for a full wipe ROM, what program do you use to get them back?
I am looking for a program (preferably free) which will let me save then recover my apps, if possible it would be sweet if it had like a batch mode where it could mass recover all the "ticked" apps or something.
Thanks for any help finding such a program. I looked a little bit but only found one pay app which did this.
Once again thx for any help!
You can't recover them once you wipe it, if you format a flash drive everything on it is gone forever.
I would suggest you make a nandroid or bart then take the apps of them and you can install them again.
1) arent there apps that save all apps on the sd then recover them from sd (fat32 partition)
2)I have always wondered what exactly is the bart and under what circumstances would i make a backup of it and what circumstances would i recover it?

1) They backup the apps before you wipe
2) Bart and Nand are both on your SD's FAT32 partition. You can put in on your computer to salvage the apps when ever you want.
1) yeah, those r the apps i am talking about. Do you know any that would fit the above criteria?
2) I know all about nandorid ( i use it to jump around ROMS all the time) whats a bart back up do, is it an alternate nandroid or does it have its own function.

Bart includes nandroid but also backs up the ext partition. If you use Bart before you wipe and install another rom, you will have your programs setup exactly like they were when you restore back to your original rom.
You can backup just the apps off the ext and put them back after you load the new rom. I am not sure about at batch install.
Mybackup and there are probably some others in the market.Root explorer might allow you to copy files.
Which option should I select? I have the following:
- Nand Backup
- Nand + Ext Backup
- BART backup
I don't plan on doing alot of hacking (launchers, themes, minor things) but if I mess something up I want to be able to make a backup and restore; hopefully as if nothing happened. That said, it wouldn't do me much good unless I knew the backup I made was going to enable me for the right restore. I'm running the newest version of Amon-RA. Green typeface, Nexus Logo (Dunno if that makes a difference). Messed up my phone pretty bad yesterday and although I was able to fix it, I don't wanna repeat that mistake.
I've always done Nand+Ext backup. Never has failed me
what is the +ext and the bart option? anybody that can ecplain the difference with the nand backup?
EXT is if you have a linux EXT partition for APPS2SD and want that backed up too.
thanks, and what does bart mean then? I just saw the new 1.7.0 from ra and saw the last two were replaced by google system files. any link with that?
I'm planning to partition my N1 running CM 5.0.5.3 for Apps2SD as I'm losing space for my apps. I have backups made from MyBackupPro and was wondering if I am to restore my Apps, will it restore on the new apps2sd partition? And will it recognize the apps2sd partition for future backups?

As long as you have an apps2sd rom installed then all apps should install to the EXT2/3/4 partition.
I have backed up and restored 360 apps in total using titanium backup and they all installed to the SD partition.
HTH.
@chobie, I'm not 100% certain... but I don't think MyBackUp Pro will backup apps installed on the SD...
thank you guys for the replies.
So restoring will do it but not sure for backing up in the future yeah?
Will Titanium backup do it though?
yes, titanium backup even works with apps2sd...
not sure if this is the right place but if I partition my sd card through amonra recovery what's a good way to do it for the nexus one?

so i can titanium backup my apps before partitioning for apps2sd then restore them to apps2sd partition after? i guess i should purchase it then T_T
@chobie, titanium will take care of all types of backups and restores for any rooted android phone... it's an amazing app...
@hisoka210, i'm not sure wht you are tryintg to say, but when u partition it from amon_ra's recovery, it is partitioned for the N1... but yes, using amon_ra's recovery is the safest way to partition ur sd card for the N1
Anyone
know how to set ext4 to the nexus to enable apps2sd ?

Depends on the number of apps you want to install and the size of ur apps... generally, ppl use a 512MB partition... but u could choose what suits u best... and keep in mind, the larger the size of the sd ext partition, the smaller the size of the fat partition...
How to backup everything with Nandroid?
Actually I am asking as I did a backup recently but while restoring some of my apps went missing (like email), why did that happen?
I am not too familiar with /preload but what I have read have made me understand that it includes some of the apps so might this be the case that the apps in /preload weren't backed up? If yes how to include them to back up with android, please tell (I did some search but didn't found any answer).
Any advice/help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

If you are using Philz kernel go to recovery, select "backup & restore". In there go to settings or misc (can't remember what its called) and make sure "Preload" is selected. Then backup your rom.
To reinstall make sure you are using a kernel that supports this backup so easiest way is just restore from philz kernel.
Thanks mate worked well.
Coming fro i9000 I wasn't aware of the /preload thing and also I thought that Nandroid would backup everything by default. Shouldn't that (backing up of preload) be ticked by default in the kernel?
