Maybe by chance someone here knows how to fix this. I hope so.
I've been trying to record a couple of games (Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, even HL2 and HL1) with Fraps and it's just not working at all. The game will operate fine until I kick in the Fraps recording, then it either freezes, or drops to about 5fps.
I'm on a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, Nvidia 9600M GT, and a 500GB HDD with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. 4GB of 1067MHz DDR3 RAM.
I've tried setting every game I play to 800x600, turned all the effects as low as they can go, setting the games and Fraps to use different processor cores, and reducing Windows 7's visual effects.
I also tried having Fraps record to my 1TB external HDD hooked up via FireWire 800, to no avail.
Is there something I'm missing here? I've tried everything Google has thrown at me. :/
What version of FRAPS are you using?
I recorded HL2 with FRAPS 3 fine.

Yeah, they're all updated. I'll try uninstalling/reinstalling them.
I might just install the 32-bit version of 7, because now other programs are starting to break too.
If possibly, try recording (if not already) to another hard drive.
FRAPS
go to movies tab..
switch to 30fps..
switch to half size..
turn sync off..
turn sound off..
these are the settings i use and mine runs perfect..
*try now???

I have old IBM computer. It doesn't want to turn on - even bios is not loading. I have similar problem with Maxdata and there was broken motherboard. It is the same problem? Can it be broken processor? How can I check what is guilty for this malfunction?
Hdd, display, cd-rom, fdd are working.

Get the Mobo Manual and check if there is a CMOS Reset (Jumper Reset) on there, that might fix it.
Other than that, check all the connections, if that doesn't work, unplug all un necessary peripherals.

do they even exist ???
try the RAM too

It is a21m. RAM is also ok, because I've tried with RAM from other laptop.
CMOS reset? I disconnected battery for 1 minute, but it didn't help
Can I turn it on without processor? because this could be the last thing that I didn't tested...

No u cant boot w/o the processor and if the pc is dead, it won't post boot.. no beeps.. so the rom is dead
how many beeps do you hear.. that tells ya what is the problem

as I thought...
how many beeps? Now I am not sure, but probably one on start (as normal) and nothing else
hmm, one beep is fine..maybe it could be your Vid card and then ur CPU
hook up ur lappy to an externa; monor and see if it works, else the fan stopped working and burned the cpu
maybe the vid cable is old and broken esp if its a old plastic ribbon or vid cable could have come loose
cable (graphic card - display) seems to be good, because I disconnected it from video card and later I tried to boot - without succeed...
so it could be graphic, cpu, and mobo... graphic card is installed on motherboard so if it or mobo is broken I must change this part. How can I check CPU?
that only why i can think of testing the cpu is putting it in another working motherboard with the same socket
But is 386? 486?
How many sockets suports 3-86, 4-86, 5-86, processors?
IBM i think with 21MB on Ram the processor must be 486...
but tell us how can you plug in to test your 21Ram Dimm or SIMM or rimm grimm frimm trimm PCB tablet on other mother? the minimal i saw this days are near 128Mb i cant figured out how your IBM motherboard supports that.... maybe searching for a 64 can run cause...
Im still with the Memory Issue....
I will be happy if it is RAM...
I have also older thinkpad with 128MB RAM (64x2 100MHz). This is with 192 (128+64 133MHz). I removed all 192MB and plugged 64 from older one - it is this same problem... but I will tried again in free time - weekend.... I will check this 192 MB RAM on this older laptop...
What sockets are you talking about? And what is this 21MB? Sorry, I don't understand
The processor made by Intel, it is Pentium III Mobile 800Mhz 256kb L2...

cool...
so only way to make parts useful is to keep them for another broken notebook?

EDIT: Conclusion =D
Well i'm happy with a setup i've just done. Using my X Mini portable speakers I get a very loud speaker, with high quality. If anyone else cannot be bothered/cannot figure out how to fix HDMI, these are probably better than my Tv's speakers anyways. And there only £12 =D
Also, YATSE remote for android allows me to control it despite not having CEC!

Hello, I haven't seen much on Raspbmc on XDa, but its a great little OS. With overclocking controls (much like yuo might get on android) and XBMC booting by default for the professional look =D
Anyway, I haven't been able to get any sound out of the HDMI. I know that sound output can work (on a different OS, like raspbian). Also, i noticed that the HDMI control (ie using TV remote to control it) doesn't work.
Any ideas? Anyone else using PI?
(also, have tried loads of configurations in audio, now i'm stuck)
Edit: I'm trying a clean install, ill post my results.
I've been using raspbmc since I got my first pi and haven't had those problems. However the last iteration of rc5 did have issues with cec which would explain why your remote wouldn't work if your not on the absolute latest. As far as sound only issues I've heard about is with people using external stereo for sound. Disable DTS if your using your tv. With the latest versions be careful with overclocking, there's currently a problem in the build that is causing SD card corruption for a lot of users.

Check out xbian.org its a xbmc build for the rpi that works great. My remote for my LG tv works great and same for sound, no issues. Has oc control as well. It does freeze up every few days but that's my only issue with it

Reinstalled but...
Reinstalled but still no joy.
Im gonna try xbian, as Endoroid suggested, much thanks
I did overclock it, but i have noticed that when booting up, sometimes i have to restart as it says
Code:
**cant read, cut off screen****al commit I/O error
Humph, im guessing that al is journal (after googling the rest).
Ill report back again on my xbian results, hopefully end of thread? we'll see (i hope my sd card isn't corrupt or something, i dont think so, file management sitll works and it boots...)
Right...
I installed XBian but still have no sound?!
I know that sound has worked on XBMC, i remember when i first got it i tried it breifly, im gonna try with headphone port and see if i get sound. Even if I do, i'd like to use the HDMI output, rather than headphones/portablespeakers.
Any clues?
Edit:
Headphones working fine... i'm not sure whether that is a good thing or a bad thing...
(im testing using a few different sound sources, not just one, os i doubt this is any Program errors. It must be the system. Are there any drivers i can download for a samsung TV?)
Also, i might try on a different TV and see if it's just the tv?!

I see that no one has commented on this in a while, so I hope that the thread is not dead. When I hook up my Raspbmc to my TV through my Denon receiver, I get picture, but no sound. I added the two lines of code to the config file mentioned on the Pi forums that supposedly force HDMI. When I go into audio settings, however, I don't even seem to have an HDMI option. The only options are Analog and Coax.
Thoughts?

I had this problem too when I got a Raspberry Pi a week ago, with a Samsung UN32EH4000 (I don't think the TV has CEC, if that matters). Tried all the recommended solutions, but never had the HDMI choice for the sound even. Went to Xbian and had no problems.
Not posted since forever :S
I have given up on Raspbmc, and even xbian as I have found they don't work well, for me.
I did like Arch linux, but had problems had memory problems.
I have had memory problems on all of the distros tried, I think it might be a hardware problem (after a successful boot or two it forgets how to turn on and just fails)
Oh well :L Gonna try raspbian for a bit and see if i get anywhere.

I was able to fix this by adding "hdmi_force_hotplug=1" and "hdmi_drive=2" to my Config file. I also went pure Raspbmc. You can install XBMC from Raspian, but since my goal was a media extender, I just installed Raspbmc. Wait for everything to settle, turn off the Pi, put the SD card in your PC, open up config.txt, and copy those two lines of code.
Make sure when you edit the config file on a pc, if using windows. Use notepad+ as windows will not properly format the file using utf-8 with standard notepad.

Also... make sure you're using a quality dependable power supply that actually puts out 5V and at least 700mA, I use an Amazon Kindle Fire 2.1A charger just for the headroom.
The easiest way to check is to have the Pi plugged in and on, and check voltage on the board directly with a test meter. If you don't get the correct values, try a different power supply.
I got myself the first HDMI to VGA adapter I could find, and once I got all the parts for my RPi connected, I found that the display on my VGA monitor is worse than crappy. Whether I use a plain terminal, the XDisplay of RaspBian, or the latest XBMC-based distro, I could not get anything useable. Until I patiently played with the XBMC and changed the actual display resolution to 640*480. Not very impressive, but it is stable.
I need to know how to change such setting for, say , RaspBian.
I want to find a *GOOD* HDMI to VGA cable that will actually work with the RPi.
Thanks

How much memory do you have allocated for the GPU?
I was looking around and here's a test someone done (full source here):
64 MB = No-HD Playback (Black screen)
80 MB = No-HD Playback (Black screen)
82 MB = HD Partially working (Some HD movies dont play)
84 MB = HD Partially working (Some HD movies dont play)
88 MB = HD Playback (seems to lag a bit)
90 MB = HD Playback <- Seems to be good. I will test it a bit longer.
92 MB = Perfectly working
96 MB = Perfectly working

The user mentioned that the optimal memory split for decent HD output was 100MB.
Don't forget that VGA is an analog signal, so make sure you don't have anthing generating a lot of interference.
If the cable you bought is of low quality, it may be and easy subject to interference.
Will try your configs

That may sound like a stupid question, but where can I change this information ? For sure I will try this before getting another cable like that, to see whether this makes a difference. As for the interference, this is also something that I want to check, like installing the minimum cabling on a clean table to see whether this makes a difference.
Thanks
If you're using any of the raspbian based distros, just ssh into it and edit /boot/config.txt using nano:
Code:
sudo nano /boot/config.txt
and search for gpu_mem and edit it.
If you're not on a raspbian based distro, shut down the pi, put the SD card in your computer and edit the config.txt as mentioned above.
[SOLVED] HDMI to VGA adapter cable
Since then, I got myself a decent monitor that actually has an HDMI input that I can use and my RaspBerry PI now gives me a perfect display, and out home TV also has HDMI input, so I guess this issue is closed (from my point of view)

i will be getting a Gear VR with an S7 in the next day or two... has anyone used trinus VR to stream games from the PC ? how is this experience? is it worth doing ?
I read somewhere I could stream using a laptop nvidia 960m live stream function, does anyone know if this is possible.
Tried this today with trinus and elite dangerous.
I works but the quality is so poor.
I'm hoping when I get home that using a faster Internet connection will help.
YOu can try moonlight or Sideload vr
Sideload VR has an app called Stream Theatre. It utilizes Nvidia Shield on a computer that has an nvidia capable card (I think the minimum is a GTX 660). It's not perfect getting started up and can be a pain up front. but once it is running, it runs very well. It loads a steam OS like platform into the theatre screen native with the Gear VR.
Although, I'd like to stream from my laptop (Intel HD4000) and have not found a way to do that yet.
Edit: Nvidia shield can be found in the Geforce experience app on the computer.

Hi! I'm planning on using my phone with a displaylink docking station and shadow to have something like a desktop gaming station on low budget. I couldn't figure though which displaylink product provides 4k display capabilities as well as power to the phone. I'd appreciate any tips on that as I couldn't figure it out on my own. Oh sr. I misunderstood 2 conceptions.
I read in the document that you need USB 3 to export 4K. Mi 8 is USB 2.0.
I'm interested on a similar setup with displayLink or other screen sharing solution without latency
So I got one of these:
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/2uu1qfWs
It works with it, but... It's lagging, sluggish, and slow, and LOT of latency (100-600ms(ish)).
When there is a video playing on the screen, horizontal, it's okay, because only part of the screen is getting refreshed.
But when I switch to vertical playback, it's only around 5-17 fps, depending how much of the screen have to refresh.
BUT probably only lagging, because it's 1080p.
Whe n I tried with a portable USB screen (this one : https://www.amazon.com/MIMO-TOUCH2-7-inch-Touchscreen-Monitor/dp/B0052Z996E) it was fine. But the resolution os only 720p (or less?).
So.... Still better to have a chrome cast ultra... Maybe? I didn't tried it yet, only chrome cast, and it was okay (except the audio... It was bad.)
Hellos everyone ..I want to connect my mi8 to a display to use it for e-learning with Skype app..
What extra accessories needed ? I want everything working by phone camera, mic , only the screen I want to transfer without lagging with cable of course...thanks
