Help I think my HTC G1 got bricked, I have read and followed a wiki on how to root and upgrade G1 Android OS. I have successfully rooted the phone, but when I installed deathspl i forgot install the radio 2.2.xx. After deathspl reboot my phone got stucked on AT&T G1 screen.
Can somebody help me?

its truly bricked... flashing a radio/spl incorrectly will render your phone unusable... you could always Jtagg itif you have any tech knowledge... there is a tutorial around here somewhere

From your description yes it's bricked. BUT if you can get into recovery mode with power + home, then your not bricked. You would just need to install a rom ontop.
If you cant get into recovery mode. then yeah bricked. or you can try using that dreaimg. whatever file to see if you can reset things. happened to me back then almost a year ago when i first rooted my phone.

right i know how i bricked my G1
did spl before radio .. so the outcome is basiclly it hangs on the screen thing
i passed the phone down to my little brother so hes been using it for some time i ain been on the g1 scene for quite some time until yesterday he started ranting on bout me upgrading his system to the Hero ports
my main question was is there a way to recover this problem
or am i going to have to go tru my friends at t-mobile

Shaji... 1st off how is your little brother using a "bricked" phone? If it is bricked it can't be used let alone have the ROM updated to the Hero ROM's. Also there are several threads over in the " Dream android development " that should provide you with PLENTY of information that you seek... good luck with T-Mobile...

...tell T-Mobile you got an OTA update and phone never booted past the first screen after. You're phone is bricked ,get a new one.

I did the same thing the night Haykuro came out with all his new stuff for that. I flashed SPL before radio, but I was able to fix it. I'll pull up the email I worked out with him, PM me for it.
Disconnect usb, take out the battery and plug it back it, connect usb, boot the phone into the recovery mode, go to the console.
Enter then type this: echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
You now can access to ur sdcard from your computer, download a rom, change it to "update". Reboot the phone again, now try to wipe and install the update. After you install the update, flash the radio first, then the SPL. Let me know how it works out for you.

@shaji007 Your post is quite confusing, can you tell us what you did in order? Can the phone get in to recovery (power+home) or the bootloader (power+camera)?
@phuthanvinh If you brick you can't get in to recovery.

i followed the guide how to downgrade root n hack etc
did all that
then upgraded to one of JF builds
then i was going to install the hero ports that have been flying around
however this is my fault i wasnt really concentrating and i upgraded the spl before the radio
so yea its bricked on there
i just thought xda might have a way of fixing it back up
getting it replaced with t-mobile is of course no problem but i dont want to go through the hassle

Right, yeah, you're screwed. Just tell tmo that the update bricked it, but don't say bricked, just act dumb
I wouldn't hold out much hope for lukekirstein's unbrick method that no one has over heard about before...

I have a rooted g1 and I was putting on the 2.1 rom on my phone. I was following a guys instruction off of youtube but it totally messed my phone up. Now its stuck on the pitcure with the open box pointing a yellow arrow on the phone right next to it(the update screen), what do I do??? Thanks for your help.

If you had root why did you flash the radio again?
That gives bricks applying radio after having root is pointless.
What are you trying to do?

Just tell me everything you did, step by step.
ok first i put both of his zip files on my sd card then turned off my phone and turned it on with the home key, then i backed up my phone, then a factory wipe/reset, then applied the radio update, then tried to apply the other zip file but couldnt, so i rebooted my phone and now im stuck

But you have to have a custom recovery image before you can flash either of those.
i think it was just a radio but not sure. but i followed that guys video step by step and now im in this position

Ahh you might brick, you seem to have flashed the Radio made for HTC hero not G1....Notice the title: "How to get Android 2.1 on HTC Hero"
To use Hero 2.1 on G1 it shows it here @ XDA, you only needed Haykuro SPL and the 26I radio/
If rec mode is working then you arent brick or if you can get into bootloader.
how do i get in rec mode or bootloader
Hold down home when turning on the phone=recovery
Hold down camera button while powering on= bootloader
If you can't get into either one of those, likely bricked. I know with WM devices flashing a radio for another phone is one of the fastest ways to brick your phone, Android seems to be much more forgiving, so hopefully you will be lucky and if recovery and bootloader don't work, you can possibly get ADB to work.
If you don't figure out how to do this BEFORE you do it, you will likely brick your phone, if not sooner, soon enough. Doing it along with a video isn't enough to make sure you won't brick your phone.
Read through the steps of rooting, flashing a basic, stock ROM, do that a time or two, and then get into the more up-to-date stuff.
Your method of going about a new task is going to... well, it isn't going to work, unless you are really, really lucky.
so i have a bricked tmobile g1 on my hands. my friend tried to flash haykuro's spl and did it wrong so now the phone is effed it does not say "tmobile G1" at the bootup screen, it says HTC and stays there. trying to get to bootloader and recovery mode is impossible because the phone will not go into those modes. the spl is a "danger spl". is there any possible way to fix this?
as of right now...no there is no way to fix this...

if ur phone is under warranty just call tmobile and say ur phone would not turn on after a backup app asked u to restart ur phone

flashed the spl before the radio and bricked. called them and told them an app caused it and got my device within a week :-D
Ask for a replacement, and lie about what happened
But yeah, your current G1 is bricked if you cannot access recovery or bootloader.
It's a bad sign that it says htc and not g1 on the boot screen. If they see that then they might charge you because it's obvious you flashed the wrong spl for the phone.

my friend tried to root his g1 and somehow he got it stuck on the bootloader screen. It just stays there and does nothing.
I have no clue what to do and he let me have the phone.

Some of them have great experience with the G1 and many others android phones. if that file don't work for you, this one will truly work its the one i use if i get into any trouble like your self, i been there. sometimes its stays on booting and this don't work i use this one.

For some reason i cant get into boot loader mode... any ideas?
did you press camera button and power button just like that. fist step camera button second step power button at same time. but before you do this phone needs to be off to get into boot loader mode. you need to place the image on the root of the sdcard thats in no folder at all, in the root of the sdcard.
What i did is i pulled out the battery, put the sd card in and then put the battery back in. Next I held down the camera key and then I pushed the power button. I have not let go.

It will not do anything. it is just stuck on the g1 screen.

probably the phone is bricked. write every single step you remember you took on trying to root your phone maybe i can get something out from there. its hard to brick one of this phones. to use amon recovery and hard spl your phone need to be downgraded with rc29 by using the file in the website i posted.

He said he did not downgrade it. he went straight to the spl and this is what happened.
he needed to downgrade the phone from stock before doing those steps. it aint that easy. probably he bricked the phone somehow.

He could not have flashed the spl straight onto a stock phone.. He's leaving something out, probably in the full knowledge that he did something stupid.
Anyway, if you can't get into bootloader with cam+power of recovery with home+power, it's a brick. JTAG it if you're comfortable with that or if not, sell it to someone who is.

I got it working again, downgraded to RC29 and flashed Amon Ra 1.7.0 image. After that I got too excited, I went straight ahead and flashed hard spl and complete Eclair rom right away. Then poof, stuck on g1 screen. Still is now, possibly brick right?

HardSPL should not cause a brick with the RC29 radio, unless you are mistaking HardSPL 10.95.3000 for DeathSPL 1.33.2005.. which did you flash?

I flashed with hardSPL. but isnt the steps i did correct? or did i skipped something? i haven't root my phone since last summer. so my brain was kinda fuzzy when i reroot my phone.

You should've updated the radio before trying to run eclair, but that wouldn't cause a brick. Can't you get to recovery or bootloader?

Before this happen I can, but now I'm stuck on the g1 screen. I left it on all night and nothing. I still can't get into recovery nor bootloader. Any other suggestions? So tired too of staying up all night reading trying to figure this out
so i have been trying to flash either a gingerbread or froyo rom and i see that i have to flash all these radios and spl's i didnt know what i was doing really because no one was helping from the outdated threads and i installed what it said was "hard spl" on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14193280 and it said to reboot to complete installation so i did and now i am stuck at T-mobile G1 screen. no recovery no Power+camera. there has to be a way to fix this please help
I think your in the same boat as I. The device is bricked and requires JTAG to fix it.
The problem is that JTAGing the device is not cheap.
