Galaxy s or Nexus one!? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to know if i should keep the Nexus one or buy the Galaxy S because its faster and has a 4 inch display? Help

I prefer the nexus. Not becasue of the hardware but the community behind it. Nexus will get the first updates and i think google is testing android on Nexus.

I'm a brand new user over from the Behold 2, and I need you to read this.
The galaxy S will be amazing, but Samsung is scum.
In short, they will NOT update their phones as regularly as every other company, and don't fix the little glitches and Force Closes that come with the overlap of their "TouchWiz" OS over Android. You will also rarely if ever get an Andriod update if a new version arrives, and the phones are BARELY hackable.
The hacking comes into play because Developers would otherwise be able to put the newest OS's on even if Samsung wont, but because they wont release their files, Developers don't always have much to work with, and the phone is stuck.
Go to the Behold2 Forums for the proof, but there is a midrange android device that is only 6 months from its original release with a dying community of people starting petitions and talking about Lawsuits because samsung isn't even going to update to 2.0 on a 350$ phone.
This thing, the Nexus, is a beast btw, and I wouldn't switch for an iphone4 or even an Evo.

I stopt liking samsung waaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....aaaay back. i don't like them and never will again. the phones maybe look promising but they fail verytime.

on the fence about buying...

any peopple coming from android in here? !
well, could you push me one way or the other please?
so basically, convince me to buy a hd7.
Recent phones, Nexus one, G2, captivate.
I've been diehard android since the G1 but when I saw this UI I melted just a little bit.
I will tell you the only thing I dislike so far is the current lack of app support which can only get better with time. The UI may have been marketed as something that you could pick up glance at and then put down but I find myself on it just as much as I did my g2. This phone has the ability to change the face of phones if Microsoft has the backing (how could they not) Jump on the bandwagon while there's still room, it's more than worth it.
My last phone was a Desire, WP7 and the HD7 blow Android away IMO, there are some limitations currently but updates will hopefully eliminate them within a few months. Research carefully before you jump, but my recommendation would be to go for it
Last 4 phones;Apple iPhone, Sprint HTC Hero, Nexus one, HTC EVO
Personally there is one thing that I love about WP7 that I could not get on any android device; consistency. Android is nice and all but it felt very disjointed and thrown together. Sure there are a ton of apps but so many lack polish. Please do not get me wrong Android is nice and very capable but it always felt sloppy to use.
In my experience every android phone that I have ever owned sucked on battery besides the nexus one. The hero was dead before I knew it and the EVO is just pathetic as far as battery goes. I don't what the deal is but the Android OS doesn't seem optimized as far as battery goes.
Not gonna beat a dead horse but as everyone here knows; android fragmentation is a problem. Slowly getting better mind you. Every android phone that I have purchased was running an older version of the OS at the time of purchase.(besides the nexus)
Lastly I felt that I had to root and tinker with my android phone just to get it to a point where I was satisfied with it.
Keep in mind this is merely my personal opinion and experience, others mileage may vary.

agree completely. the hardware is really dissapointing though. ill definitely be wedded for two years, annd i think 3.5G (i refuse to call hspa+ 4g) will be commonplace byy then.
I was an Android Girl for life..Loved Android and still do...
But now I am a Windows Phone 7 Diva lol
.Idk if you are familiar with phandroid.com and their forums androidforums.com but for the most part they are a good community but extremely biased towards android lol....
So if you have questions about a particular phone, check em out.
My last 4 phones were a: Mytouch 4g, Samsung Captivate, Sony Xperia X10, and Droid X.
Honestly, I will say Android is a great OS. However when buying an Android phone you have to be careful which phone your going to buy.
All the Samsung Galaxy US Variations are still stuck on 2.1 despite being on the market for like 6 months now(and Android 2.3 has been released) making it 2 OS generations behind. Now Android 2.3 is brand spanking new but those phones probably won't be saying that till Spring 2011
Phones like the EVO, Incredible, Most Droids, G2, and mytouch all have 2.2 but again you might not see the current OS(2.3) by Spring 2011 which means by then a brand new OS will be out for it.
However, with windows phone 7. All phones have the same General requirements guaranteeing updates to all devices around the same time.
The User Experience on Android is decent but you have to learn how each specific UI works...Blur, Sense, Stock, Timescape, Touchwiz...Some add functionality and enhance android while removing or not playing nicely with Android.
On Wp7, it is the same general User Experience. I can pick up a Samsung Focus and play with it and understand it the same as my HD7.
If I pick up a Mytouch 4g after having a Droid X, i have to learn..Can't do this like i used to...Or darn, that feature is gone.
I can go on and on.
I say come on over to Windows Phone 7
but if you chose Android I'd recommend any Droid from Verizon and the mytouch 4g for tmobile

i know, but im wondering about the hardware. frankly, it sucks...
I wouldn't say it sucks per say.
I mean is the HD7 the best hardware i've owned? No
However given the actual software's pluses, it makes it
less of an issue....
I'd say my top 5 devices for hardware from 2009-2010
1)Sony Xperia X10--even with that low speaker, it is a sexy device
2)Droid Incredible
3)Samsung Captivate-Pretty
4)HTC evo/HD7- Basically the same device
5)Iphone 4
I've owned quite a few more but these are my top 5 from best to average
There is always the venue pro that comes out in a few days to consider.
But i dont think the HD7 hardware is that bad...the worse part is the camera...Usable but not the best
i agree, the sony xperia is onee sexyy device. xD
evo= +ffc
+8mp.
Xperia x10 is terrible glass and poorly framed
Evo is just a terrible carrier... And nothing should run sense.
Motorola is all crap materials
Captivate CPU is easily overrun then you have a pricy paperweight
IPhones just have the most terrible os ever made.

That's pretty ridiculous and over-reaching of you. What you can do then, is wait around for whenever a phone comes out with those specs or create your own franken-phone. The specs on phones right now are fine; they're smartphones, not laptops or tablets. If you're looking to get a phone with a dual core processor and 1GB RAM I think you'll be waiting a good while, so have fun In the meantime, I'll enjoy my HD7 now and in about 2 years when phones with those specs (or better) are available and the kinks have been worked out, I'll upgrade.
I have had a Hero and actually wanted to for desire HD but due to stock issues just decided to go for the Hd 7
I Just love it...
THe Main Point to note is - Microsoft has taken the best of both apple and android and turned it into WM7
I do agree that its a bit early for WM7 but I am sure with updates and more apps in the market we will be rocking by next year.
I definetly would recommend WM7
and I personally love the big screen of the HD 7. dont feel like using my computer anymore

BTW, its WP7, because they "reinvented and thoroughly refreshed their hardware and software from previous generations. " they dont want people to think its windows mobile all over again.
But, imagine if you lose your phone. most self respecting android geeks have wheres my droid on their phone. if you ever lose your phone, you send a text to it with your codeword, and it rings, and the screen turns into your contact info. You put in a password, and it shuts up. Because, its open source, and apps have access to everything they need. That's the best part of android, IMO.

Let's put it this way, with WP7 ridiculous specs are not required. The phone in terms of speed runs rings around my old Vibrant, and the Vibrant has arguably better hardware(better GPU) The OS itself is hardware accelerated, Android can't attest to that so they need raw power to get the OS to acceptable speed levels.
Not to mention the hardware drivers are made by the OS manufacturer which means everything's a bit more tightly integrated and made with each other in mind.
Go play with one and see what I mean.

Sometimes I wish that I bought an iPhone

I bought my tab in February. Seemed like a great deal and it really seems so.
But the tab got ridiciliously cheaper and the iPhone is still the same.
My uncle has an iPhone and when I compare it with the Tab with Gingerbread, everything seems fine but, Android gets outdated very fast...
I mean, the iPhone 3G , released in 2008, got outdated last MONTH, by not receiving the 4.3 update.
What about my Galaxy Tab, released in Oct.-Nov. 2010? It hardly got a rom update in 6 months and it doesn't seem like it's getting Honeycomb!
What about Ice Cream Sandwich? No assurance we're getting that either.
And touchscreen sensitivity... the iPhone can feel my SLIGHTEST touch I can feel, this is just for test purposes. My Galaxy Tab sometimes fails to feel the slight touches, sometimes gets very unresponsive. Not that the iPhone doesn't, but it's really rare with the iPhone..
Yeah, I guess I can still trade it for an iPhone but, I don't know really.. iPhone 4 is not likely to get outdated any time soon, but the Galaxy Tab already has successors and already failed to get an OS update, let alone Ice Cream Sandwich. And this just helped me decide that next time I'm going Apple.. My Galaxy Tab was supposed to be a long-time purchase, about 2 years long.
I can relate to a lot of your gripes. I personally go with Android because I don't like Apple's control, but it can be a tough world sometimes.
For example, with the Galaxy Tab, I have the Docomo Japan SC-01C model. I originally tried importing a UK model as I knew the EUR model would get the best support, but it got ridiculous trying to find a site that would export them here to Japan. So, I ended up grabbing the Japanese model.
So now I find that they all (GSM & CDMA US, South America, EUR model, Korean, HK/Asia model, Japanese model) have subtle differences making it extremely confusing knowing whether you can install any cooked ROMs on here. In addition to that, samfirmwares has no listing of ROMs for the SC01C at all, totally out in the cold. It pisses me off that it's made so confusing.
Take now for instance, there's a Gingerbread ROM out, but it's for EUR. I've read a Japanese site that has successfully installed Chainfire's excellent release, but when I emailed him, he indicated he has the HK model. So even on the Japanese sites I can't get any clear idea of whether I will brick my tab trying to install it. I've got the source code for the Japanese model kernel and it does seem to indicate bluetooth differences for a start but I don't know if that's for real or not. All I want to know if the hardware is the same as the EU version so I can debrand the damn thing.
With my iPad, well, if there's news that the iPad 1 has been jailbroken (as it has) it's relevant worldwide! Having said this, I did debrand my HTC Desire to the WWE version, painlessly I might add, so I'd like to focus this criticism at Samsung, as HTC do a better job (except of course for the 32A/32B nonsense with the HTC Magic which naturally I ended up inadvertently buying the inferior of the two from Vodafone when I used to live in London).

I wouldn't confuse outdated with updated. Apple updates their devices less frequently than android. It doesn't make their software better.

Recovering Nexus Fanboy

I've recently got myself an unlocked N910F note 4 after a recent Nexus fetish and I must say I've never been happier. I got into Nexus phones with the N4 which was a pretty good phone, then I got an N5 which was brilliant apart from a mic issue I had on 2 different N5's which I kinda put up with in the end because I was a fanboy and Nexus ruled at the time. Then I got an N6 and the camera went funny in the 3rd week so I took it back and my second one lasted 3 months before the battery started expanding and the back was peeling off. I had been treating it like glass in case I had the camera issue again and didn't want to do anything with it in case it broke which really made it pointless. Plus the battery life was awful and I don't think it could be totally blamed on lollipop because all my Nexus devices have been the same before and after their updates.
I was always put off by the plastic feel of early Samsung devices and after having a Note 2 10.1 which seemed overkill on features and barely saw updates I swore I'd never own anything Samsung related again, especially seeing as I dislike touchwiz and bloatware. How wrong was I? I've now got a phone with an awesome camera for once and a battery that gets me through a full day with more than the couple of hours screen on time I'm used to.
My plan was to get an S6 when it came out in the UK but, I think I'm going to stick with this one for a bit as it's been like an upgrade to what I've been used to. The next Nexus will need to be pretty impressive before I consider one again regardless of who makes this years version(s).
I thought speedy updates were more important than anything but, nothing changes that much on most occasions and these days it's Google Play Services that has been bringing in the good stuff. Glad I've had a wake up call.
Welcome to the club! I also owned a Nexus 4 when it first came out because it had 2gb memory compared to my S3 which had only 1gb, but I never liked vanilla Android so I gave it to my Dad after a month. To me that was the only advantage it had, and I remembered complaining to the relevant forum, and I got flamed really bad by the fanboys, they were sensitive and were as bad as the N4, LOL.
Enjoy your new toy!
Welcome GMonkey,
in the end i think the benefit of getting faster updates on a nexus device will never even out the disparity in functionality given by an s pen.
You may dislike touchwiz, but if you just count the number of features you gain compared to stock android it is not even a competition.
even in the case you get a new android version on your nexus, the samsung phone will still have more features. matter of fact history google borrows many features from samsungs touchwiz anyways to introduce it in later android versions, so why wait for a new buggy android build if you can have the feature 1 year before already.
i like to compare samsung and stock android to cars.
of course your limousine will not have as good as a acceleration as a stripped down race car, but what you lose in speed/acceleration you gain in comfort and everyday functionality. :good:

I've done that many times. Nothing worse than having to put up with a device you can't stand. The N4 was really well priced and was meant to be a blank canvas to build upon so I didn't mind it so much coming from a HTC One S. It's just a shame Google changed their game plan with the N6 and tried to take on high end phablets without adding phablet features. I just hope Samsung carries on using Android as a base for touchwiz.

It's definitely a limo, I never know where to park it and people stare when I'm driving it.
There are so many S pen features. I kinda neglected them on my 10.1 when I was using it but, with a phone I think I'll be more likely to use it as I will be able to get so much done when away from home. I think I can live with touchwiz as I'm running Google Now launcher and most of the main apps are replaced with what I've always used. The settings, notification tray, and dialer I can live with. I just wish I'd done all this a lot sooner.

Samsung is underestimating their competition likely to Galaxy Note 4

I'm apologizing for all outburst!
Samsung has a bottom line today is not in competition (Iphone plus? Nexus 6), of course it's the line Note has a niche market. Niche of the most demanding customers.
I love the line note note is different is not a smart phone is not a phablet, tablet. Note is observed.
PDA PALMTOP remember he had in 2004, for years had no competition. He later turned to dust.
Samsung have to stop this behavior much like a hyperactive child with acute attention deficit lost to a very wild market.
Samsung is underestimating their competition likely to be very careless with your most demanding customers.
As for update delays and low quality of the current Lollipop. Surely this must be the number of models and variants exist. But it does not justify S6 has a much better operating system "S6 5.1.1 ota rollout", and note 4 stay with median lollipop.
I do not like to compare, but even if IOS8 had many flaws the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 receive the same attention updates together. I think the mistake strategy, think Samsung is still low self-esteem, the exaggerated respect for Apple, which is also intended for the low sales of IPHONEPLUS ??? You may have influenced the strategy is to let the note 4 to the side and focus too much on the S6. I'm just guessing.
You have to consider the fact that Samsung has a lot of devices to update. You can't compare IOS who is a closed ecosystem with 5-6 device to upgrade and maintain with Android and Samsung who has a lot of phones and tablets.
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
Well first, none of us users asked for a hundred versions of the same device. Let alone hundreds of devices to flood the market.
Second, as OP stated, most of Note users are demanding power users. If you want to stand out in a market full of big screen phones/phablets now, you have to be up to it and dedicate the resources (time, staff, ...) for this.
Third, Note 4 isn't like iPhone 4S or iPad 2. It's this year's flagship for God's sake!
Fourth, Samsung is all about S6 and making up for S5 sales, which isn't wrong. But in the process a company that big mustn't overlook their existing flagship and their true signature device. Afterall, people still buy through word of mouth.

I believe that you made your points correctly and we understand them. I have been wondering the same thing, why is an S4 so much different from an S5 in terms of the software? Why is a Note 3 so much different from a Note 4? If Samsung wants to stay ahead of the curve, I thing a great place to start would be to keep their software matching to a greater degree, from TW to S-Notes to... you name it. I think that Sammy is losing focus in trying to capture the new user while not understanding that they are losing users out the back door because of their software.
I agree. But you know what teaches a company a lesson? By going to another company... They not only get one less sale, their rivals get one more sale. I think my Note 4 is very fast EXCEPT in the multitasking button (or recent apps button, whatever you want to call it). It's very slow, and it is rather frustrating. If Samsung cannot fix this within the next months before the Note 5 comes out, my next device will certainly not be a Samsung device. I paid well over 600 euros for a device, and I expect it to work well. Now, if they can't, that means that their current users aren't a priority and they're only focusing on their future users; ironically losing their current ones.
It's a buyers market. As you mention, the Note line has some very big pros on its side, such as the SPen. Apart from that, there are other devices that could give Samsung a run for their money. I recently tried using Windows Phone as my daily driver and it was a VERY nice OS (but no Android). I'll never go back to iOS because of how closed it was... But in Android itself there are TONS Of phones - that's the beauty of it. You have so many choices!
But you should never blindly give a company your money if they're not working to maintain you... I mean, after all, you PAID them for their product. This would be another story if they gave you their phones freely! But heck, for 600+ euros... I'd expect them to want to take care of their customers.
Bottom line: I'm very happy with my Note 4. Battery life could and should be improved. Speed could be improved from what I read on the forums. I'll give them until the Note 5 release, and then I'll reevaluate... Until then, there is nothing I can do, less selling the phone is an option and picking up another device. But I'll be sticking with my Note 4
Great topic bro
Seriously Samsung is not giving a teention to note 4 at all i mean even after the outdated update still most of the countries have KitKat and still waiting LP
This policy of samsumg is drawing users away from this product. I mean coommon i have an octa core processor and the touchwiz is making this phone like its runing on single core always delays and stutters . lag lag lag and lag everywhere. Even a nexus from 4 years can feel snapier than note 4. Of course we get 50000 + on antutu but that number doesnt translate to reality day to day. All is that i can say the software on note 4 is very poorly optimized if non . i have 3 gb of ram and nothing is open in recent apps and im already consumin 2.2 gb of ram. If samsumg cannot do it at least send us the open source codes so that the talented people over xda can make it happen

Problem is,at the moment I see no real competition to the Note 4. The M9 is a massive disappointment, the Z4 looks to be stuck In last year, the G4 has got a locked bootloader again. Despite its flaws, the Note 4 is still one of the best phones out there. I changed my phone 4 times last year and this year so far I haven't seen anything that offers better than the N4.
The heavy PWM samsung chooses for the display made this my last samsung. Probably my next one will be an LG, they dont use the heavy PWM like samsung does but then again they dont have the quality samsung has with it's screens.
Technology luxury problems.....

I agree with you about the PWM, it really annoys me but the fact you won't be able to flash a new ROM or kernel on the G4 annoys me even more.
Everyone here loves their Note 4. That's why we demand the attention it deserves. It's the best android device ever created (minus some software optimizations, support, multitasking lag).
But to wait a whole year until the Note 5 comes out to get a -by then a year old- OS update?! That makes no point to me at all. Like other people pointed out, most countries still await 5.0.1 update. Having paid €600+ for this phone, i paid for the best phone on the market. That includes support and OS updates and performance and stellar camera performance -as promised/advertised- and here we are after 6 months since release, with no updates or a very poorly optimized update.
If only nexus devices had sd card and removable battery, i think they will kill almost all android sales. I am surprized my daughter's aging nexus 7 is still running Lollipop 5.1 today while my samsung phones even the newer ones are running kitkat.
I had nexus 4 before and never had any issue with the screen. Same with the nexus 5.
I think think samsung wants us to upgrade our hardware to get the latest software. They are now talking about the note 5.
I will keep my note 4 for maybe 18 months ang see what is in the market. I'm also getting tired with samsung and it's BloatwiZ os.
Samsung is paying for their mistakes in the past and it may take longer than imagine, the line Note is one of his greatest hits, so I fell in love with the note 4. I see no other option, I can only regret that we are paying for cost of his mistakes. So I resign myself and enjoy this great device!
Cheers to all

If the Nexus 6 had an Sd card and good quality camera I'd move over straight away, I love all the custom Roms and kernels my N5 had and N6 has. Unfortunately for what I use the phone for, the N6 just isn't good enough and from what I've seen from the other flagships launched this year so far, they aren't either.

Agreed, if the Nexus 6 had MicroSD and removable Battery I'd have most probably chosen that over the Note4, although the VR issue remains, since at the moment only Samsung has a proper implementation of Mobile VR with GearVR.
Anyone who buys Note4 for anything else then stylus is fool. There are many same or better devices for much better price - if you do not want or know to utilize active digitizer.
I don't think we are all fools for buying Note4. I don't use very much the stylus. But Note 4 still remains one of the best phones of the market. Believe me I've had a lot of phones, i meen a lot. I've had Sony, LG, Xiaomi, HTC, BlackBerry, Apple, Huawei and a lot more I can't remember right now. But every time I'm returning to Samsung. We should admit that Samsung has a lot of good parts. Ok it is not the best company when it comes to updates, but not the worst. Belive me Sony has the updates for lollipop rolling right now, Huawei still waiting, Xiaomi still waiting. Maybe HTC and LG moved a little faster.

Lollipop update on Z3 is garbage
OK I got Note 4 with Exynos chip (64-bit disabled !!!) and I'm running Lollipop 5.0.1 with a lot of issues, lag & bugs and RAM management issues also.
no API 2 camera or RAW support, they just sent Lollipop update missing many advantages of the original Lollipop OS, Samsung just fooling us by a Software (Touchwize) reducing our Hardware (Note 4) real capabilities.
like
1- camera missing RAW support and other options.
2- no 64-bit abilities for Exynos model.
Samsung should fix the Note 4 issues as fast as possible & we don't have to wait for Note 5.
we need full Lollipop update with a fix to the 5.0.1 update bugs.
I always was an Android user but I'm thinking seriously to leave Android to Windows Phone 10 or even iOS, because with those OS's you will find much more respect, updates & development .
Now Samsung just focusing on Galaxy S6 with an update like every few days to solve S6 issues & they are ignoring the rest of devices, specially a flagship like Note 4
our voice should reach Samsung ..................... guys if you are going to buy Samsung device please think again.

If the Tab S1 does not get v6 Marshmallow, will you buy another Samsung tablet/phone?

If the Tab S1 does not get v6 Marshmallow I will not be buying another Samsung tablet or phone again, "cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye"
John.
Yeah, I don't think samsung cares if you or everyone on XDA don't buy their products. We make up less than 1% of their market. To answer your question, I will probably buy another samsung tablet if my tab S dies as I bought this device without really expecting any modifications through firmware updates. One should not buy a product with hopes of future improvements, except for maybe nexus ones.
Well i am still on kitkat as the buggy v5.0.2 lollipop is a joke, we did not even get the stable v5.1, I have had to disable half the apps and turn off sync to reduced the crazy battery drain while in sleep mode, so V6 mashmallow is my only hope for a stable low sleep drain without disabling everything.
John.
The screen (LED, aspect ratio, and resolution) and physical home button are the primary reasons I got this tablet. Those are more important than OS since custom ROMS are available. My previous tablet was a Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, which never got LP. So I installed CM 12. I'll install CM13 on this tablet if Samsung never updates it.
In regards to battery life, I keep it on airplane mode all the time and turn off WIFI when I'm not going to use the tablet for more than 8 hours. I'm running IronKernel with the developer's suggested settings.

My mom has a Galaxy Tab 4. She doesn't know what OS it has, nor does she care. My wife hates updates on her Samsung and Apple devices. She calls them "downdates" because they make unwanted changes and she has to learn how to use the device all over again.
When I bought this tablet I was aware how awful Samsung updates are.
But I don't have regrets because it was pretty cheap when I bought it and in my country there is not much options: you have to go for LG, Samsung, Apple or non-brand tablets.
If you ignore the lack of official support and the capacitative buttons it is a really good device.
I'm on 5.0.2 and I use my tablet quite a lot. I get very good performance and average to good battery life. I don't really get what people are ranting about. Look at the market today. This device is the best in class in terms of price. Don't even get me going on the screen.
Why wouldn't a customer expect firmware updates for a premium device that cost me £400 new? To stop supporting flagship devices (which this was) less than two years old is ridiculous and will stop people buying their products (it will stop me) when other companies do.
Considering the fact that several sources say we are getting the update I don't feel the need to worry.
But yes I would order another tablet from Samsung.
The day you picked up the phone, you bought it as it is with no attached promise to update. That simple.
I bought it for the hardware more than the OS update since the OS changes are not know at the time it was bought. I return my TabPro 10.1 for my Tab S 10.5 because the specs were much better.
I had an Asus Tranformer Prime prior to my Samsung Tab and I hated it because of the hardware issues it had. I would buy another TabS in an heart beat.
No, obviously.
Like a few others I primarily bought the hardware (AMOLED 16:10) over the firmware version. To support that comment, just a few days ago I pulled my Nexus 10 unused out of the closet. That device never officially received Marshmallow but there was OmniROM v6.0.1 that became available. It was easy to flash and you can feel that Marshmallow makes the N10 a smoother experience. With that real life experience behind me and my TabS warranty up in May/2016, I'll just flash a TabS Marshmallow ROM at that time assuming nothing comes from Samsung.
I will not argue with you that Samsung is pitiful with regard to timely updates and even how long they support their devices. To my mind they should sell a touchwize version and a vanilla Android version at no discount. They may just find that more people buy the vanilla version and they can save themselves a lot of software development money.
I've already posted my findings of how bad Samsung is at software development when I went to theme touchwize. Their lack of basic software development practices prevents them from any rapid deployment of updates.
If put in charge of there OS software group I'd fire the managers on the spot, implement tight controls and fire any developer who does not adhere. The cost saving, increase in issuing updates and reputation improvement would be staggering, especially with so many devices to support.
As long as they're what I consider the better option, yeah. Software updates are just part of the equation. And I'll take oled over updates any day.
The original question posed by the OP implies implicitly that the "fact" that Marshmallow is not coming to Tab S is some kind of a terrible tragedy. But is it really a tragedy? I am on a stock Lollipop, and I think the experience is great. Nice, smooth, functional gui. Easy to root and modify. All apps work, and Android apps will support 5.0 for a long, long time.
if it 2x spec upgrade from tab S + 16:9/16:10 screen then maybe.
other than that, I'll hold
not much tablet option that have simcard + good specs.
Don't get me wrong. I think the tablet is very good. However I could only buy the 16GB version when it came out thinking that Lollipop was going to give the full micro SD card marshmallow does. As we all know it does not. IF Samsung do update it will be a superb tablet. They need to stop making so many devices if they cannot update them!
Not sure. This was my first and only tablet to be honest.
Do I like what I purchased? Yes I use it a lot, actually more then I thought I would. Its my go to mobile media consumption, internet, show watching, mobile gaming device (thanks to emulators).
Do I like Samsungs horrible support? Of course not. But thanks for places like XDA, do we really need to rely on Samsung to give us a great rom?
I wont be buying another tablet until something BIG with breakthrough technology comes along.
For now, I am content with what I have, even though I feel I overpaid for it lol
I will absolutely not buy another Samsung device... period. between this and my note 4.. I am done with the bloatware and crap software added on. 100% nexus in the future
I would go Nexus, but the fact they have no sd card slot is a game changer for me.
If they release a tablet with 4K super amoled and same aspect ratio to the Tab S1 then I probably would. Still the best in class screen IMO...
