Which 2.1 ROM is the most stable? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm new to this forum and to the whole rooting android movement.
anyway, I've tried about 2-3 2.1 roms so far, but they all end up having bugs like restarting randomly or while receiving a call. So, would you guys mind giving your opinion on what you think the most stable rom is ?'
Thanks

which ones did you try?

This belongs in General or Q&A. Mods please move this.

Give Aloysius 2.1 a try, its very stable and you have several versions to choose from. Konikub is very good at helping out with any problems that "may" arise.

I just installed DamageControl 2.09.01 with the overclocked kernel and I am loving it! Everything works perfect and my phone is flying now.

Fresh 2.1.2 has been......by far the most stable for me, though different phones/users have different experiences. Fresh-Toast while very fast, has a problem with force closes on random incoming calls, Damage's roms have never played nice with "my" phone. Regaw, Zen, and Aloysius are good roms, but I have had random issues with each of those as well. I also want to add that Darch's stock Android ui (Nexus, Droid type) roms are good and solid, but I personally still prefer Sence so its not an option for me.......but maybe you.
you just have to try them all to find the most stable and likable for your wants and needs. Your experiences will be different from everyone elses.

Right now I am using Aloysius 2.1 OC'ed and I am amazed at the speed. My other favorites have to be the DamageControl ROMs. They run so smooth with Sense UI.
Every ROM is great. You may experience a few bugs with any of the ROM's, but that is expected. Every ROM on here is better than stock/official 2.1. Happy flashing! Oh and make sure to wipe!

Confused on which rom to follow.

Now that the whole Cyanogen deal happened I've been having a hard time finding the perfect donut release to follow. Any suggestions? Also what would you guys say to be the most stable Hero to be used day to day at this current time?
This is in the wrong section, but I use KingxKxKlick 1.9
Wrong section....
Yes, this definitely in the wrong section, check out Q&A instead. Soon a mod will fix this, but keep it up, and you'll be temp banned.
That said, CyanMod is still an excellent, stable, fast Donut build. If you're looking to try Hero, I have used about a dozen, and Kingklick's is easily the best, and since about 1.7 has been completely stable--no swap partition or cpu overclocking needed, and it's still so fast it's just disgusting.
Cyanogen is still actively developing his ROM. I would suggest following him on twitter.. @cyanogen
I would suggest that you just keep using Cyanogen. If you have too much trouble installing, just install this version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=569825
In theory, once installed, you can just install Cyan's official updates when he releases them.
With Hero ROMs, I found that in EVERY Hero release people claim its THE best Hero ROM available, so you gonna have to do some flashing to find out for yourself.
Now I use Hero3G UNI, others swear by Evil Hero 3.0 and MLIGN-HeroV2.5.5. These 3 ROM will need different and most likely customized user.conf settings. For Hero3G I found 196 swap w/100 swappiness and CC OFF works best. For Evil Hero you also need 196 swap partition.

There are some that are good, but some are the best. It all depends on how it runs on your device and how you config the user.conf.
Just remember, even with Donut, Hero ROMs have a lot of bells and whistles, but still lack core function like BT or Google Voice Support.
Cyan is my recommendation, and cyan is hinting at a very very soon update.
If you want to play with a new toy, try Motoblur, just be aware it lacks wifi.
it all depends on you. right now we have 3 working roms not including the pulse rom.
original android by cyanogen, [everything works]
hero by about 8 people (htcs own google ui), [bluetooth doesnt work, also im noticing flash doesnt either.]
blur [stable but slow, but good for social networks, no wifi]
just download the 3 different roms and test em out, dont just test one hero rom tho test em all and find what you like. but please do post in the q&a.

Google Voice works fine for me on KingKlick's 1.9...
Also, some other Hero threads claim to have bluetooth working, but I have tried them and keep going back to KingKlick because they are all too slow.
I also wouldn't recommend MotoBLUR yet, unless you are very experienced and want to help the devs. It's still waaay experimental, way more than just wifi doesn't work.
But all the Hero/Blur/experimental stuff aside, if you just want a good, stable, feature-rich, fast ROM, stick with Cyanogen. Hate to be so blunt, but he is simply the best.

Oh Nice! You can use it with the normal dialer? Not through contacts?
i've been using enomther's donut rom. seems to be working very nicely. haven't used cyan's 'newest' rom because he kept saying 4.2 was around the corner and I kept waiting. Last week also said he had some updates for the .999 build and was going to add another 9, but never released it. Also enom's rom has a hero theme addon for his latest release. Whereas nabzilla is also waiting on cyan's 4.2 to release an updated theme for that.

hero roms I tried a few and so far Mlign's worked the best for me. its something u have to find out for urself

The best rom, up to date?

Sorry for such a general question but, what's the best, fastest and most stable rom up to date? Something that runs on the Hero layout would be nice =). I am currently running MoDaCo's Hero rom(5.3) which is quite fast, but seems a bit outdated now. I've tried other roms like Eclair 2.2 and KingKlair's 1.0 rom(which was incredibly slow and had FCs D. If anyone could give me suggestions(don't say search bar, as that thing hates me) to what roms are good it'd be great . Sorry if I'm asking too much here, but some eyecandy would be good too =D.

Herver's EclairOG
Do you know if video on that rom lags ._.' as some Ecalir roms I've tried had laggy video whenever I tried to view something.
all eclair drivers will have problems playing video since there are no video drivers that have been released for the G1/MT3G...
That news is quite depressing :'(. Guess I'll just stick with Modaco's until a fix arrives.

in my opinion super D 1.6 or 1.6.6 < waiting for 1.7 should be out any time. are the BEST roms. fast, no problems so far. and runs market and all the good stuff...
idk if it's what your looking for since it's not much for eye candy, but it's an efficiant rom.
hope i helped
super D 1.6 is amazing. I loved it, and still have it on my switchrom for when I need a fast phone. Other than that I use MLIGN 3.2B hero. Maybe wait it out a few months until switching to espresso. Happy flashing
honestly, the best advice i can give you is to just try out different roms. each rom runs differently on every different device. xROM Eclair by JAC runs beautifully for me. absolutely amazing, but for someone else, it may be awful. it's all about how it does on your device, so just try out different ones and pick the one that suits you best.
I would recommend CSDIv1...its super fast and stable. But if you do like Sense UI, I use MLIGN Hero 3.1B...but as grandomegabosses recomended, I suggest you to try each rom and decide by yourself, because not everybody have the same setup, ie. Swap, Ext, Swapiness, Clock...and that may cause differencies of speed on one phone and another
Best ROM up to date
King's AOSP 2.1 [v1.2] hands down!
The fastest and most stable Eclair rom yet. It has tons of eye candy and lightning fast for an eclair rom.
Flash it now!

No, it's not a lockscreen at all. It's the Clock app for Eclair that comes with the rom.

Which ROM for basic use?

Hi, I'm a Samsung Moment user trying to help a friend with a Hero. He has the official 2.1 update, and I'm going to try regaw's root method on it. Afterward, I need to find a good custom ROM to apply for him. His biggest complaint is that the phone is slow - lag dialing, etc... So I'm hoping for something dead simple without many bells and whistles. He doesn't even care about Sense, so a ROM without sense would be fine. I see a huge number of choices out there and I don't want to keep flashing roms on his phone over and over. So are there any recommendations on a simple 2.1 rom that runs lightning fast?
If your friend can give up MMS, Darchdroid is the way to go, in my opinion. It is an AOSP ROM based off of Cyanogen Mod. It's overclocked naturally (He won't have to do any special tricks or download any apps) to 710 MHz. It is senseless. The newest versions get crazy-good battery life. I have yet to experience any lag on this ROM.
I used SushiROM before this and it was also pretty quick and stable, but it hasn't been updated in ages (I don't think). I hear ICEROM is jsut as good as Sushi, but I haven't tried it.

DarchDroid all the way.
I love it i just email pictures if i have to.
Darchdroid if he can give up mms.
DamageControl 2.0.9 if he needs mms
or IceRom if he likes the look of Darchdroid but needs mms.
=)
If you want the closest one to the official sprint release, I suggest Fresh ROM. Although Flipz has done a lot of optimizations and stripped out a lot of the bloatware, but other than that it is pretty close to the official release. I have heard great things about Darch, but haven't tried it yet because I thought I wanted Sense, but have changed my mind and am running LauncherPro on Fresh right now.

AOSP vs Sense speed

I'm currently running stock RUU. I'm considering my first custom ROM, and speed is of relatively high importance to me. The 3 ROMs I'm considering are Darchdroid, Fresh, and nfinitefx45.
Fresh and nfinitefx45 ROMs are of course Sense ROMs. I don't care for Sense widgets; I use LauncherPro. If I use Fresh or nfinitefx45, I will use DarchKernelv4.
My question: Even if using LauncherPro with Fresh or nfinitefx45 ROM, will Darchdroid be inherently smoother/faster/more responsive because it an AOSP ROM?
Yes.
But I suggest you try it yourself anyways. Some people flash multiple roms daily, lord knows I've been known to.
Sent from my Hero CDMA using XDA App
everyone has their own opinion. personall i love sense. but being as i have "ORD" i just have to try new stuff. i've tried all of the roms and i ended up on fresh's 2.3.3. it is the fastest buld i've tried. up there with our froyo port. and it's sense with live wallpapers. im using darchkernel v4 for fresh OC to 710. i almost **** my pants at how fast it was when i had tried this yesterday. but like i said, everyone has their own opinion. so the best thing to do is to try them all. darchroid 2.7 and fresh 2.3.3 are the fastest as far as stable builds go. but by the end of this or next week i'm sure all the bugs will be fixed in our froyo port.

Captivate Roms, Need Info

OK guys, I need to know which roms are the best for the captivate and why. I am a Vibrant user and have been flashing for a while now, I have a buddy that has a captivate and wants to finally root and flash something spectacular,,,,
The problem is I don't know anything about the teams, and roms for captivate. Serious input please, no flaming or bashing, I really need the hard info,
Battery life, looks, ease of use, modems, kernels, etc...
Thanks
adamholden has some great ones like the: phoenix rom, firefly rom and the new supernova rom (running it awsome) also the serendipity rom

+1 to Serendipity. It's a great all around ROM and doesn't have flashy themes taht look ugly. Just a very nice stock look and it has great battery life.

Took a look at the serendipity rom, looks like a good rom, how stable have the roms from this developer been? And they include the voodoo lagfix from supercurio correct?

Thanks for the quick response. ulk? have to research that one. But I do like what I have been reading in the serendipity thread.
Can you tell me anything about the pheonix rom? reading thru that one as well, and not seeing many bugs reported there either.
BTW leaving work now, won't be back on until tomorrow so if I don't respond again until tomorrow, Thanks for your input. I hit the thanks button on one of the other posts for you.
Phoenix uses same kernel, although an older version, and lag fix. Also stable also active dev. Matter of opinion as to which is better.
My two cents, currently my favorite 2 are paragon and stripped
IMO Andromeda v1.1 is an smooth stock like rom. 1.5 to 2 times the battery life from JH7 stock rom and better signal coverage.... it utilizes the 850mhz band better than the stock rom.
My vote is for Paragon...awesome and the kernel is super!
Phoenix is also a nice rom and the new Sucker Punch kernel seems to be doing great too.
I stopped using Serendipity a while ago as I did not like some of the changes that were introduced but I need to test the new versions.
I have tried pretty much everything else and those are my top too.
Currently testing Supernova.
Hi,
I was about to post a similar thread. I have an Evo & a buddy of mine who has a Captivate has been having some issues related to Android 2.1. Are these custom roms (Paragon, Phoenix, Serendipity) all Froyo 2.2 roms?
I am an Evo "Fresh Rom" user at first, now I stick with CM6.12 & try nightlies often as well.
Any advice for a solid 2.2 rom would be great!
Thanks,
Rich
I really recommend docs, I'll post link at the end, but I've had the best battery life and stability with it, also the rom kitchen is a huge selling point. You can generate a "cooked" rom with apps, modems, kernels, themes, boot animations, sounds, keyboards, tweaks, to your liking. With many of each to choose from. Very easy, with wipe and no wipe flashes available, pick and choose, don't like something then cook another, no biggie. Themes are most of the popular ones. I've cooked many myself, here is the link to the rom kitchen: http://romkitchen.org/capt/?s=home With out actually generating the rom you can select and choose to see your options. Hope this helps I will also post the roms link
Sent from cappy running docs gingerborg 9.1.8, hardcore k13A, jk4 modem.
I'm actually running gingerborgmod 9.1.8 its a cooked version from borg based off of docs, sorry I don't have link but you can search, he has been updating it with all the latest goodies, kernels etc. give either the kitchen a shot, or gingerborgmod. A shot don't think he'll be disappointed. Any questions just ask.
Sent from cappy running docs gingerborg 9.1.8, hardcore k13A, jk4 modem.
Tooka a look at Docs kitchen and pretty cool, would be better if I knew the specifics on all the stuff. Guess I need to do some research on the captivate modems, kernels, and other stuff
this is my setup.
Serendipity 5.8
Suckerpunch build #48 OC to 1.12ghz and undervolted
JL3 modem
and i find that i get better battery life with juice defender. some people hate it, but i seem to do better with it....
and with just basic usage, calling, texting websurfing, my phone has dropped 30% in 12.5 hours.

Thanks mod, I did specify no flaming in the op, also this isn't supposed to be about best rom but more for me to gather info, a starting point for my own research
Can someone recommend a 2.2 Rom? i am a little confused if the above listed roms are 2.1 or 2.2?
i'm currently using a cooked up ROM from the Kitchen, and so far it's my favorite Captivate experience. if you know what to do with it, it's nice, and regardless very sleek and smooth. Andromeda, Serendipity, and Firefly are all worth a chance too, some of my favorite ROMs
