read my sig, flashing from phone... have luck

But I can't get this step:
reset your device and within 3 seconds push together the Vol_Down + Back button (the one on the right above the hangup button) and keep pressed until the boot loader appears (the one with the color stripes)
I have a broken button..

so you have to use mtty, but you need anyway a windows based PC (as I know) to install crude usb drivers...

Ok, Thanks for your help

I use VirtualBox on Arch Linux with Windows XP... I can't flash directly on the cell as ActiveSync doesn't recognize the device, but maybe MTTY, with different drivers, works

I use virtual machine with windows xp,, to use mtty on my windows 7 based pc.
All you need is an virtual machine,,

yep nice trick, anyway I remember that there is a freeware WM5/6 driver working with unix/linux that put the device (also the internal memory) as disk drive, so you can see both memories as "just" plugged usb drives... I rememeber because I used this trick with my old dopod & FreeBSD

Updated guide to installing win7 on your shift.

This is just an updated version of deadnex's original guide, with a few things thrown in from various people who have found what works and what doesn't.
This guide has been used and tested as effective with the windows 7 rc 7100 build.
Step 1 - Go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx and download Windows 7. You can get a key from the same place, so don't worry about not having a key.
In the event that the servers aren't offering the download {due to server issues} you can download a current version through a torrent site. I recommend mininova as it's the most legitimate of the bunch.
To get a key for windows 7 (32bit) (if you downloaded it through a torrent site), go to this address https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-32/enus/default.aspx
(64bit)
https://www.microsoft.com/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-64/enus/default.aspx
To clarify this part, you're setting up a usb flash drive or usb card reader and sd card to work as an installation drive for windows 7. I've followed these steps exactly, and found them to be completely accurate. They work, so do each step, and make sure to keep track of your steps so as not to miss one.
Thanks to deadnex for all of this information.
USB-install:
User feedback suggests that doing this next part should be done on a computer running windows vista. In winXP, your usb drive might not show up during the process.
edit (before step 1, create a folder on your main computer called windows7. Don't do this on your shift, and it's recommended to use c:\windows7\ to make the process easier. If you use another location to extract the files to, make sure to remember which directory it is, and adjust the steps of this tutorial to your own location.)
1 - Open the windows7 Iso file with winrar, and extract all the files into C:\WINDOWS7\ (or the folder you created as mentioned above)
2 - Open command prompt in administrator mode (start - all programs - accessories - (right click) Command Prompt and select run as administrator.
3 - Then type these commands without the - and press enter after each :
- CD\
- DISKPART
- LIST DISK
- SELECT DISK X ( X is the memory stick disk number you got from LIST DISK)
- CLEAN (CAUTION; THIS WILL ERASE ALL THE CONTENTS OF THE SELECTED DISK)
- CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
- SELECT PARTITION 1
- ACTIVE
- FORMAT FS=FAT32 QUICK
- ASSIGN
- EXIT
- XCOPY C:\WINDOWS7\*.* /S /E /F U:\ (U:\ is the name of usb drive you are using for your install, if your drive has another letter, which is most likely, of course put in your own) (after *.* and after each letter preceded by / there's a space!)
OPTIONAL- Include an extra folder on your windows7 usb drive called drivers, and put all the drivers in there that you'll need to get windows 7 running smooth. Drivers are listed just a little further down on the page, so before completing the next step, go there and get the drivers.
WARNING- THIS WILL ERASE YOUR VISTA AND REPLACE IT WITH WINDOWS 7. THIS IS IT!!! Don't worry, win7 rc 7100 is far better anyway. Just to be safe though, backup your personal data before continuing to the next step.
[edit] With a little use and time, I've come to find that windows 7 has a great amount of compatibility issues with certain games. Although I've only had the chance to try a few, there seems to be a trend with win7 being unable to run a lot of older, but still 3d, games. Warcraft 3, and Dungeon Keeper 2, to be more specific. If you're not a gamer, it shouldn't matter, and Windows 7 is still the best choice for you. If you do like to play games, you might want to reconsider changing to windows 7. [edit]
Restart your computer, at startup push FN+F10, and choose your usb drive.
This will take you to the installer, select your language, timezone, and keyboard layout. Next.
In summary, you're going to select Custon (advanced) in the windows 7 installation process, and some card readers (sd to usb) don't work.
This will not affect your HTC SHIFT Vista recovery partition but it will remove Vista itself from your shift. Your settings from Vista will not be carried over to Windows 7.

DRIVER DOWNLOADS AND INSTALLATION.
Well, once you're through all that, you should be looking at your new windows 7 shift. Now's the fun part! Driver installation!
Go to this link, and download all of the drivers. (10 in total)
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=60&cat=1&dl_id=82
Putting these files on the same flash drive as your windows 7 install makes matters much easier for this time and next time should you need to try again. I also recommend copying and pasting the installation order from the htc site in a notepad or wordpad file and putting that in the same folder as your drivers. That way, when it's time to install your drivers, you can open that file, and use it as a reference to ensure you have the order correct. Chances are that your shift won't connect to the net, right after the win7 installation.
IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT
INSTALL EACH DRIVER IN THE ORDER THAT HTC HAS LISTED ON THEIR DRIVER DOWNLOADS PAGE. DO THIS OR FACE TOTAL DEATHKILL!!! actually, you'll just have driver issues, but that SUCKS!
After many people have responded, I wish to remind everyone. Install all the drivers. INSTALL ALL THE DRIVERS. Install all the drivers. Yes, I said that three times. Although your shift seems to work, when only installing a few, the fact is, drivers like the synaptics touchpad driver also control other parts of your shift, like the two face bottons above the touch pad. If you install one driver, and skip one in between, you mess up the order of installation that is so important, and then force yourself to need an entire wipe and reinstallation of win 7. So, one more time, INSTALL ALL THE DRIVERS FROM HTC.
One more important thing to know about the drivers is, DON'T LET WINDOWS RESET AFTER INSTALLING EACH DRIVER, select RESTART LATER AFTER INSTALLING EACH DRIVER. I REPEAT, INSTALL ALL DRIVERS (IN ORDER) BEFORE RESTARTING WINDOWS.
IMPORTANT When you've finished installing your drivers but still need to restart to take effect, go to your display settings (right click the desktop) and select a non aero theme. save settings after that. Windows 7 Basic is a non aero theme and it looks good. If you leave Aero enabled, your shift will blue screen of death crash when it boots into high res mode.
Windows 7 can not run Aero in high res on the shift. (for now, at least)
When you install the drivers – beware that you have to install them with Vista Compatibility mode enabled and run as Administrator. Right-click the driver setup file – click the Compatibility tab – select Windows Vista and mark “run this file as Administrator”
To save yourself a headache, copy and paste the following list into a wordpad file and place it in the same directory as your driver downloads. Putting this list in the same directory on your win7 flash card means that you can open it on your shift after installing win7 and use it as a reference when installing your drivers. Keep it all together.
EACH DRIVER IS 100% IMPORTANT AND NEEDED, DO NOT SKIP DRIVERS, EVEN IF THAT DEVICE SEEMS TO BE WORKING ALREADY. SKIPPING THE TOUCHPAD DRIVER MEANS THAT THE RESOLUTION AND COMM CENTER BUTTONS DON'T WORK. SKIPPING THE SOUND DRIVER MEANS THAT CERTAIN APPS WILL CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO BLUE SCREEN. SKIPPING THE VIDEO DRIVERS MEANS THAT CERTAIN APPS WILL CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO BLUE SCREEN.
DON'T SKIP DRIVERS.
Here's the order.
a. VISTA_INTEL Chipset Driver v8[1].3.0.1014
b. Intel VGA driver(7[1].14.10.1461)
c. VistaECDrvV1[1].0.1.10
d. TouchScreen(1[1].1.0.2)
e. Synaptics MicroPad(10[1].0.11.1)
f. Realtek Audio Driver R197(6[1].0.1.5653)
g. Vitakey _AC5023_Fingerprint AP v5[1].0.2.0 and Driver v7.10.1.0 *
h. Extension Kit USBLanDriver(3[1].8.3.7)
i. Shagctrl_1[1].2.6.122-control center
j. Marvell WiFi driver(8[1].114.123.139)
This next part was contributed by Thaihugo. Thank you a ton for this contribution Thaihugo .
To connect the Windows Mobile (your Shift's other OS) side to the PC side of your Shift, run USB Tools in the windows mobile side. If nothing happens, go to your settings (still in mobile)- Connections, then click on "USB to PC". Uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality and wait at least 5 minutes to see if it connects (you must enable the port in USB tools first). Another note, some roms, for the wm side of shift, don't include the internet sharing app. If you can't find it, you've got a crap rom, and you should follow a guide which will allow you to put a real rom on it.
Make sure you are connected to the internet on win7 side (using wifi for example) to download WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center).
If WMDC doesn't load, plug another pocket pc into the shift's usb port while running windows7 and it will download , or if you don't have another pocket pc lying around, download it manually from Microsoft.
Also, after this setup, the Snapvue side might turn off and not turn on again. In this case, reset under vista side using the HTC tools, and go to the power settings (long click or right click on the battery icon in the bottom right of your desktop). Disable all the "turn device off after x min" settings and make sure to click ok to make the changes effective.
Again, a big huge thanks to deadnex for originally posting the steps to this process. And thanks to everyone else who contributed to a better running shift via windows 7.
Caid.

You forgot to specify that drivers must be installed with Vista Compatibility mode enabled and run as Administrator
Everythnig works fine for me untill.. I boot from usb go to "install now". And then ...
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk,CD,DVD or USB flash drive please insert it now.
Note: If the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step"
I go to browse and then " No device drivers were found.Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK".
I'm completly lost help..
thanks for the reminder.
weird, list disk doesn't list my usb flash drive but lists all my other hard drives. what am i doing wrong?
You are probably under Windows XP. Try a vista computer or another computer for this operation.
Caid444, you can upgrade your guide with the following info:
To connect the Windows Mobile side to the PC, use the USB tools. If nothing happens, go to settings, Connections then click on "USB to PC". Uncheck the "Enable advanced network functionality and wait at least 5 minutes to see if it connects (you must enable the port in USB tools).

Thanks for your description. It looks good. Only onr thing let me bluescreen
my Shift. Whenever I install Synaptics MicroPad(10[1].0.11.1) my Device ended with a bluescreen. I tried a newer Version from the website, but no way, same result. Does anybody understand why? Does someone found out same?

You're right. it's all good though, i used MBRWIZ to take care of that minor setback. I can boot Windows 7 thru a USB drive now. I'm still on the fence about it, i have Vista Ultimate on my Shift right now. From your experience will Win 7 be drastically better?

Please, is there anybody who can help me resolve my problem? I tried lots of times by nothing works..I'm reading all these positive comments about win7 and I can't wait to have them on my shift.. I can see the usb, I browse there to the folder I have the drivers but can't install them.
Thank you in advance
This is for those who've encountered problems.
Start the whole process over again. I didn't make the guide clear enough when I first posted this thread. It's clearer now. The symantec drivers are probably fine, you're probably crashing because windows aero is still enabled, and it is crashing your shift whenever it tries to switch to high res mode. Disable aero.
As for apop, you need to install via the second option, not the first. I got the same error when I selected the first install option when I booted into the windows 7 installer. This method will completely remove vista as the main os and put it in another folder. As a precaution, I recommend backing up personal documents that are stored in any windows sub directory. *word documents and the likes.
Anything outside of your windows directory, or on the main hard drive itself should remain after the install, but I only did this process once with extra stuff on the drive (it stayed).
Back it up, and do a fresh install.

Thanks for your anser Caid. I just don't have an external DVD.. Is it impossible to go through 1st way? I have read that some people managed to do it this way..
You mean via a usb flash drive? That's how I did it. Follow the steps for the usb flash drive method, but when you boot it on your shift and you have the option to do a custom or express install, do the custom install.

Yes, I'm using a usb card reader and sd card. I don't have two options (custom/express). Just one "install now"..
P.S. Thanks for your interest in my case.
ok
After you select "install now" there'll be a license agreement. After that there'll be a choice between two install options. You need to choose the second one.

Can someone explain to me how to set up a cellular internet connection through windows 7? I've got the sim card inside, the phone recognizes it, but I don't know how to get it working through win7, I used control center to enable modem, but still no luck. This is really annoying.

SnapView Turn's and WM7 too ... the screen goes off
Hi, I completed the W7 installation successfully. I even got to conect SnapView with W7 this time. I say this time because with the previous Wm7 guide I wasn't able to do it.
Anyway, now my screen is blank for WM and W7. In fact I have to press the on switch to get the W7 screen back. Once I have W7 working I need to reset Snapview throught the Shift Control Centre to get it going. Finally Snapview / WM comes on. However it lasts on for a few minutes and then the screen is off again. W7 will last for a few minutes more and the same will happen. I then need to press the sliding switch again. The W7 screen will turn on back to normal (the OS doesn't actually turn off but just the screen); however, WM doesn't turn on (in this case it's the screen and WM itself). I then need to repeat the resetting process again.
I did do this:
"
Also, after this setup, the Snapvue side might turn off and not turn on again. In this case, reset under vista side using the HTC tools, and go to the power settings (long click or right click on the battery icon in the bottom right of your desktop). Disable all the "turn device off after x min" settings and make sure to click ok to make the changes effective"
I did it at W7. Am I missing something? Any hints from the experts? Needless to say, everything was working fine with Vista.
Thanks

Running HARD-SPL/Flashing ROMs without Windows?

Hi,
Just got an Xperia, and I'd like to follow the tutorials on flashing the WM6.5 OS onto it.
My problem initially is that all my PCs run Mandriva Linux, not Windows, which means that the .exe files etc provided won't run on my machine.
Is there a solution for this problem? Obviously I have no ActiveSync etc and although I can still connect the phone via USB, I'm a little nervous about trying to work out how to do this off the cuff - don't want to end up with a brick after all!
Cheers
Dave
If you have just got it, then start searching and reading first !!!
sticky threads have the most information you need.
anyway, quick response, hardspl with no windows i don't think so, but rom flashes yes you can with the microsd method.... you'll find info everywhere....
I recommend you to use a xp boot cd or other windows boot cd that can mount the OS in your pc or to make a partition with windows...
Because to do a hard-spl you WILL NEED WINDOWS....Activsync from microsoft...Shuold by active and running conected to your xperia of course...
For roms flashing you can use MicroSd method so not problem with your pc OS...
READ and Study a lot after doing....ANYTHING
Wish you Luck
Thanks guys.
I had already seen and read through the points on using Micro SD cards for the ROMs, but hadn't been able to locate anything on doing the Hard SPL any way without using Windows. Thanks for clarifying what I thought was the likely answer.
Looks like I'll be spending my lunch hour productively at work next week...
the easiest way for you will propably be :
1. Go get Virtualbox (free!) or VMWare Workstation/Server
2. Setup a new virtual machine.
3. Install Windows XP in this machine.
4. Install virtualbox guest additions in virtual machine.
5. Install Activesync
6. Connect your X1 to the usb while virtual machine is on focus.
7. Put Hard SPL on that sucker.
That's how I did it and have done it for some friends.
Alternatively just do it on one of your buddie's pc who has got Win.
It takes only few minutes.
regards

flash tells me it isn't a BA, when I know it is

I have definitely got the blue angel. It is an O2 Xda 11s.
I have downloaded the how to flash your BA pdf by D-Two, and followed the instructions. It gets through to the stage where it's about load the software onto the phone, and then it quits saying that he phone is not the appropriate model.
device information
Operator version: PDAViet.net
ROM version: 6.01.10 VH
ROM date: 07/08/08
Radio version: 1.06.00
ExtROM: diamond (01)
RAM size: 128 MB
Flashing eyes: 32 MB
Storage size: 60.3 MB
At present I have windows mobile 6.1.
And suggestions please?
for upgrading, you use the MAupgradeut_noID.
that program avoids country id errors but it was originally made for the magician, hence MA, whereas the original BA upgrade utility is called BAupgradeut.
that is why you get that error. you have to put the device into bootloader mode before connecting it to the pc and before starting maupgradeut_noid, that way, you avoid the device id check.
make sure to follow the correct upgrade procedure, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630416
These are the instructions I used;
Temporarily remove your SD Card (it may work for you with the SD card still in your BA, but you may not be able to enter USB mode when cradled).
Put your device into Bootloader mode by pressing and holding the "Power" & "Record" buttons, and then press the Reset Button. Help me with this step
Connect the phone to the sync cable/cradle. sarcasm ahead Note: Did you see a sign out in front of this point that said: "You can flash using BlueTooth connection?" You know why you didn't see that sign? Because you can NOT FLASH using BlueTooth!
Now you can execute the installer file. (something like "MaUpgradeUt_noID")<--------------- Used This
Here is the screen just before boarding the software.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt356/Pterodactyl_2012/ba1.png
And here is the error message.

nope, you are not using the proper maupgradeut_noid, because that would show a magician on the left, whereas your pictures clearly show a BA, so download the Chef_Tony RUU from my signature and try that. it has the right maupgradeut_noid, that will avoid errors like that.

you are trying to flash using vista/7 have you read d-two's manual about that, with the customized driver and everything?
alternatively try a windows xp pc and follow the tutorial in my signature (the read first link)
and make sure, that you don't copy around the rom too much. download the rom and the ruu directly to the pc you flash from and use it from that folder directly. i use windows 7 on my main pc and can only flash from my netbook which runs windows xp, and due to too much copying, i had similar errors, because after copying the rom to a usb flash drive without problems, still the crc changed.
don't worry, your case is far from hopeless, but you seem to be unlucky and go through every problem there is

Okay yes, I should have said this. I am using windows seven on a Lenovo N500 4233 32g. The problem is, trying to get hold of an XP machine. Have you tried running this programme in compatibility mode? I will have a look at your instructions and see where I get to.
Thanks for your help,
Is d-two's manual, the HTC service manual in you sig?
no, it is to be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5456317&postcount=6
compatibility has nothing to do with it, neither has the xp mode or any virtual machine, because there must be suitable windows 7 drivers present. but i cannot help you with his tutorial, since i use windows xp for flashing and have never successfully used windows 7 for flashing.
the htc service manual in my sig is the official htc manual for hardware repairs, you can learn to disassemble the device there and have a list of spare parts

Windows XP Install via Flashboot

but i'm using flashboot to put XP back on my lapttop, and i think it will only boot from the usb drive, is there a way to install to my hdd? and i have no optical drive in it -,-;
Erm, good luck
XP does not support install from USB.
Best you can do, is install via network, or invest in an optical device as they surely must cost about ten cents from one of your WHARLMARTS
using wintoflash, hopefully it works....

yes it does. get the hp format tool to install a boot sector on your flashdriv e then dump the xp cd to your flash drive boot from the flash drive and run. the xp setup inside of the i386 folder.
Like I said previously. Windows XP doesn't support that.
Considering I looked into this probably about 5 years ago, I still stand by my first comment.
If you still want to attempt to install a 9 year old operating system, then you may want to read these:

1, get ur hands on a win7/xp image
2, burn it to your favorite min. 4gb/(1gb for xp) usb drive with your favorite disk burning program that supports writing to usb (ultra iso for one < top menu , burn boot image , its vital that u dont just pull the files cuz u wanna create a booting sector)
3, set >boot from external< on and >boot priorities< for usb drive to correct value in bios (some bioses also have Esc for boot menu option)
4, ????? (restart comp)
5, PROFIT
if doesnt work , ask family for other pendrive/c-reader , not all can boot
went ahead and picked uo an external optical, so its all good! =]
WinXP from USB
it is possbile because i've done it. all it is a bootable drive

you will need the stuff from this post -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648067
install - ER2003Edit_1_4_26.msi on pc
it will enable you to be able to open the ms_.nbf
the ms_.nbf needs to be put in the same folder as
HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
nk.nbf
ms_.nbf
when upgrading.
the ms_.nbf is where all the old factory programs are coming from its known as the EXTROM.
it houses programs that the factory thinks that should always be installed but not uninstalled by the public, thats why they do not appear in remove programs tab.but we do not need a lot of this stuff as we are now running WM 6.5.
the ms_.nbf that is here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648067
has already been cleaned of any factory placed program .cabs so you can use that one straight off,it does contain 2 splash images that you could change?
its best not too have any .cabs in ms_.nbf as you will then be able to do this -

hope helps, let us know how u got on....
still having problems with update
hi advanced'
thanks for the help' what ive done was downloaded all thos programes you advised me to.
extracted them to my desktop' installed the one that opens the rom image.
opend the rom image had a look it said i was on o2 but ive unlocked it to my network orange, but i didnt change anything just save the image and came out of the programe.
then i opened windows mobile connected my xdall to it and created a new folder in games called smart, i then copy the ms file and the himaupgrade to this folder.
which ever way i try to run this ie from my windows mobile sysc, i get the same message first it says about update and delete my old software, goes through the checking stage then says update has a problem please take out usb and soft reset device and try again.
and if i try to run it from my mobile it says there is no application associated with ms_ run the application first then openthis file from within the application.
this is driving me up the wall, also i am using windows 7 might that be a problem.
many thanks
basicbri
the HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe was never made to run on win7 that why we have too tweek.
follow this its for xp/vista but also applies for win 7 -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428469
when all hooked up ie. device in bootloader (you cannot update in win mobile it needs to be in bootloader mode)and all ready to run, make sure u have all 3 files in same folder on desktop pc not win mobile device...
3 files are -
HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe - update app
nk.nbf - actual win mo 6.5 rom image
ms_.nbf - extrom image
the ms_.nbf can be opened with ER2003Edit_1_4_26.msi and just delete the o2 option from the 2 drop down and type in ORANGE then go - file - save ROM image - exit
after update app has finished make sure you do this before you start up device for first time -
Select the options as follows:
(for selecting use Record Button, change values with Camera Button)
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
When done, press DPad/Action Button and wait until OS starts.
follow the update instructions for xp on here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428469
even though you are running win 7 its the same, where it differs is the actual driver install, follow the guide for vista for that..

If you have 32 bit windows 7 download attachment from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428469
unpack it anywhere but remember where it's unpacked, desktop for example.
Then put hima into bootloader mode and into crandle.
Then click on PC :
Start > Right Mouse Click on Computer > in the left you should see Device Manager link, click on this > Go to Portable Devices or something like that, there should me USB Sync or something like this > Click right mouse on it and tap Update driver > Select Browse my computer blabla > click on Let me choose someting blabla, this second option > Click DISC button > Navigate to folder where you opened this and open wceusbsh blabla > select Microsoft USB Sync or something on the list and click next > install driver > Run update and flash, lol

there will be NO icon or message in win 7 that device is connected as long as you have USB at the top of device screen that lets you know it is connected....
hi advanced'
this himalaya xdall is still giving me problems'
ive done all of these' links and downloads to up date this mo fo' but without any luck.
this has been slowly driving me up the wall, even though i have followed to the letter everything page by page.
i dont think this is going to work on windows 7'
my usb icon bottom right of my screen is showing a green and white tick that indicates that my pda is conected but not in the my computer screen, even after i followed the information.
im also getting error 101 on the himalaya ungrader, as i said before what about flashing from my sd card thats got to be worth a try.
also i would like to hear from another members that have upgraded the xdall himalaya with windows 7.
but i do think this alas is not ment to be' my destiny is drawn towards my daughters god awlfull pink mobile.

it does work on win 7...done it this end load of times
have u tried installing"Windows Mobile Device Center " which ya get from microsoft web site.
Windows Mobile Device Center - for win 7
ActiveSync - for xp
(if allready installed, uninstall and start fresh)
then when installed restart pc...
then follow -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428469
this great guide is for win 7 as well..follow the Windows Vista guide first to make win 7 play ball then after a pc reset follow the Windows XP guide for the actual updating...
and make sure you go through the different driver install ie. USBAS.zip
the reason for this is that win 7 runs "Windows Mobile Device Center" but the himalaya upgrader needs the drivers from the older "ActiveSync" which runs on xp.
make sure you have -
Uncheck the 'Allow USB Connections' box, and select 'OK'. in "Windows Mobile Device Center" settings before you try hooking up device in bootloader mode...
which WM 6.5 ROM are you trying to run ?
updating on win 7 works...it just takes some tweeking....

It's ok to update without windows mobile center, you need just driver.
basicbri, if you followed my guide, you can't fail. It's really impossible to con't get it work with my manual. Try again, even if you didn't yet
