I updated my Galaxy S to the latest stock firmware 2.2.1 Froyo so now I need to flash back to recovery 2e. I've found a thresd containing kernals on here and wondered if the CF-Root-XX_OXA_JPU-v1.3 would be suitable and safe to use to get recovery 2e.

yes i've flashed it and it is safe and easy to use
..suitable for my Galaxy S running Froyo 2.2.1? Would this also give me recovery 2e in the place of version 3e?

Worked for me running JPU (2.2.1).
From the page CF-Root page:
"2e" recovery (can flash unsigned update.zip's)
This is what you want.
I have 3e Froyo, rooted with superoneclick and when I'm flashing to clockwork it goes straight to the stock recovery mode,
Do I need to root with another program ? (rooting manually gives me the "signature failed" error)
Thanks
Look at instructions in this thread to get 2e recovery first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886112
Once you have 2e recovery then you use it to apply update.zip of CWM without signature error.
IMPORTANT : Make sure you download the correct version of CF-root for your firmware.
hi every body
i want to install custom rom , it require to back to ecliar ver. then froyo stock rom then download the custom rom , the problem after install eclair and froyo the stock rom ( original ) ,then when i want to install the custom rom through the clockwork mod i foud it appear as e3 not e2 so i cant( install zip from sdcard)
the quasion :
1-why some times appear e2 and some times appear e3 ?
2-when it appear e3 how can i return it to e2 ?
please help
2e is in all 2.1 roms..Samsung changed that in the 2.2 roms to stop people flashing unofficial zip files..Now you have flashed froyo again 2.2...you have put 3e recovery back on...In the development forums search for 2e...you need to flash 2e back using odin before you can flash clockwork.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
thanks for your reply man , but also it appear in my galaxy s device e3 even after install eclair 2.1 and e3 after froyo 2.2
Install chainfire's or hardcores kernel with Odin (or Heimdal if you are on Linux/Mac OS), they come with root and CWM recovery, which is the only recovery, that let's you flash unsigned zip ROMs (Samsung's 2e or 3e won't). And next time, this is a question and therefore belongs in the Q and A section!
how do i know if i have 2e recovery or 3e recovery ?
I have a Bell i9000m (stock/vanilla)
I have JL2 stock 2.2 Froyo
(I have the latest version of CWM installed)
cwm does 2e recovery
First, I have a Captivate with 2.1 update1 stock Eclair and has 2e recovery. After trying countless times ( 2 buttons and diff combinations ), I am not able to get in download mode (the phone just reboot into OS) , so Odin and Heimdall methods cant be used; yet I can get into 2e recovery easily. So, I use the old method to flash CWM thru 2e recovery :
1) Do I have to upgrade to GB 2.3.5 rom and bootloader ? or just keep 2.1 and
2) From the temp CWM ,can I flash a permanent CWM over 2e recovery by using modded Corn kernel or so ? or can I just flash any custom ICS/JB ROM and its kernel has CWM recovery ?

Here's a good start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
Now, as for your questions. 1- Yes, you will have to flash Odin KK4 with bootloaders. Those bootloaders are required to run GB and up.
2- You will have to flash Corn Kernel to get the recovery (cwm) to flash custom ROMs after flashing KK4.
As for your download mode problem, you can try a few different ways; usually it's vol down + power (phone has to be turned off) and don't release until it boots into download. Another option is to buy/make a jig, which will force your device into download mode.
That being said, know that you can get in download mode no matter what ROM/kernel and whatnot you run, recovery and download aren't affected by those.
now I have a new problem, I was able to get into download mode and used the 1click Odin uckk4 to flash. Yet, it failed twice. So, now the phone reboots into the white ATT screen then straight into the new 3e recovery with a lot of error " ccant find E partition , etc. " Help !
PS: I wanna add for whoever got the same mistake, do not use the one click Odin file ( with bootloader, partition, ROM, etc. ) Instead, just flash the BL alone, then the kernel as in the 2nd OP post ; then you ll have the permanent CWM recovery to flash other ROM . I downloaded SlimBean onto external SD card, how can I flash it ? the CWM does not let you pick the ROM from external SD card.

You should have a external sd folder when you hit ''install from sd''. See if it's there. Otherwise, mount your phone under recovery and move SlimBean in your internal.
